09:15 AM Tom_L: i'm changing that program a tiny bit
09:36 AM Tom_L: ok, i added a little leadin so the dowel doesn't start right on the wire hole
09:38 AM Tom_L: the wire hole is to the right in X and the wire should be away from the operator when bent and put into the hole
09:38 AM Tom_L: oh.. i was gonna try one more thing..
09:45 AM Tom_L: yeah that's better
11:30 AM Tom_L: rue_mohr, wake up.. you're wasting daylight!!!
11:55 AM Tom_L: ok so i measured the pins i used on the bend press i sent and those are 1/4"
11:55 AM Tom_L: i thought they were 5/16
11:57 AM Tom_L: so if you want to use one of those pins i can reprogram the winder code otherwise you can use a 8mm which is pretty close to 5/16" or find a 5/16" pin
11:58 AM Tom_L: the only other pins i have are 3/8 and 1/2" but i can probably get some
11:59 AM Tom_L: also
12:00 PM Tom_L: if you try the V spring and like it, i can make a jig to bend those all the same
12:38 PM rue_mohr: I dont think you linked the program
12:44 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/Spring.txt
12:44 PM Tom_L: earlier
12:44 PM rue_mohr: ah there you are
12:45 PM Tom_L: posted with grbl post
12:46 PM Tom_L: this whole spring bending thing got me thinking to make a jig to bend the V ones which would make them more consistent too
12:59 PM polprog: evening
01:06 PM Tom_L: afternoon
01:07 PM Tom_L: polprog, what's 2024 look like?
01:07 PM Tom_L: it's good to have a window into the future ya know...
01:07 PM polprog: not sure, i still have 4 hours of 2023 left
01:08 PM Tom_L: ahh
01:08 PM Tom_L: not quite far enough around the globe
01:12 PM polprog: i have a feeling it will be OK
01:13 PM Tom_L: i remember when Y2K was a thing.. everybody thought the world would end
01:14 PM polprog: i remmeber my dad tellimg me about it
01:14 PM Tom_L: ppl stock piled all sorts of shit
01:14 PM polprog: and when he heard about it in around 98 he went to some free office computer with windows 98 and set the date to 23:59, dec 31, 1999
01:14 PM polprog: and watched what would happen
01:14 PM polprog: to no surprise it just wrapped around
01:14 PM Tom_L: heh
01:15 PM polprog: but some people say the reason nothing happened at y2k was that people got scared and got most systems checked and secured
01:15 PM Tom_L: at some point i did set the epoch on one of my programs
01:15 PM polprog: before it happened
01:15 PM Tom_L: but it is pretty old code
01:18 PM Tom_L: gives the code a 100 year span to work with
01:19 PM polprog: 100 years ought to be enough for everyone
01:19 PM Tom_L: i set it to 1980
01:19 PM Tom_L: i don't remember what the default was but probably 1900
01:20 PM Tom_L: i'll retire before 2080 i'm quite sure
01:20 PM polprog: heh
01:26 PM rue_mohr: ok I got some critical things stacking up on me
01:26 PM rue_mohr: the hot water on the bathtub wants to turn off less every day
01:26 PM Tom_L: easy fix
01:26 PM rue_mohr: I have a big cabinet I need to get into the shop
01:27 PM rue_mohr: this main computer in the house needs a new UPS
01:27 PM Tom_L: and put it where exactly?
01:27 PM polprog: well i gotta go hang out with gf
01:27 PM rue_mohr: behind the lathe, where the sheet metal, belts and two spare workstations sit
01:27 PM polprog: happy new year guys
01:27 PM polprog: :)
01:27 PM Tom_L: happy new year
01:27 PM rue_mohr: polprog, has gf!!! yay
01:28 PM polprog: :D
01:28 PM Tom_L: could be good...
01:28 PM polprog: and she is into computers and electronics
01:28 PM Tom_L: that's a plus
01:28 PM Tom_L: maybe a keeper
01:28 PM rue_mohr: cool
01:28 PM polprog: definitely a keeper
01:28 PM polprog: bbl :)
01:28 PM Tom_L: bye
01:29 PM rue_mohr: I'll never find anyone, partly cause I gave up looking
01:29 PM Tom_L: when you least expect it
01:31 PM rue_mohr: nope, I'v given up
01:32 PM rue_mohr: waddle my way along and try to keep my head above the floods
01:32 PM rue_mohr: ok, so, first... I'll see if that cabinet fits
01:33 PM rue_mohr: *** I need to write a generic multiaxis servo controller
01:33 PM rue_mohr: I prettymuch have all the code, I just need to pull it togethor
01:33 PM rue_mohr: I need to be able to cobble servos to things and build/repeat motion macros
01:34 PM rue_mohr: thats a 2024 goal. resolution?
01:34 PM rue_mohr: hmm
01:34 PM rue_mohr: 1) cabinet
01:34 PM Tom_L: i have one resolution
01:34 PM Tom_L: live another year
01:35 PM rue_mohr: avoid newyears resoutons?
01:35 PM rue_mohr: hmm
01:35 PM rue_mohr: your supposed to kick it well after retirement
01:35 PM rue_mohr: to tehcnically , you have to retire first
01:36 PM Tom_L: filed for that already
01:36 PM rue_mohr: good progress then
01:36 PM Tom_L: but not ready to quit
01:36 PM rue_mohr: no, retirement can be dithered
01:37 PM Tom_L: should kick in in Feb
01:37 PM Tom_L: i think
01:37 PM rue_mohr: mar I hit 1 years at my new job
01:37 PM Tom_L: wow that went quick
01:37 PM rue_mohr: I'm sure they will stack up before I know it
01:37 PM Tom_L: this will be my 40th doing the same thing over and over and over
01:38 PM rue_mohr: yea, it would have been nice if my last job hadn't failed me
01:38 PM Tom_L: they took advantage of you
01:38 PM rue_mohr: but I'm not sure how long I could keep up doing that stuff anyhow
01:38 PM rue_mohr: everybody has
01:38 PM Tom_L: did you ever make it to that remote hospital?
01:39 PM rue_mohr: no
01:39 PM rue_mohr: it will come up again
01:39 PM rue_mohr: but there were a lot of questions about the stuff they wanted me to work on, cause it was all HVAC stuff
01:39 PM Tom_L: heh my kid could do that
01:40 PM Tom_L: seems to like it
01:40 PM rue_mohr: :] lots of it was cleaning out filters, and I dont care
01:40 PM Tom_L: that probably gets neglected at alot of businesses
01:40 PM rue_mohr: at the hospital there are regular work orders for it
01:40 PM rue_mohr: come out on a timer
01:41 PM Tom_L: they probably have to keep that up
01:41 PM Tom_L: do they use UV scrubbers too?
01:42 PM rue_mohr: yup
01:43 PM rue_mohr: there are two big air filter units the size of a 40 foot seacan
01:43 PM rue_mohr: run half the place
01:50 PM rue_mohr: 1) cabinet
01:51 PM Tom_L: 2) cnc code
01:53 PM Tom_L: kinda thought they would have more smaller ones to isolate any contaminates throughout the building
01:58 PM rue_shop3: in that unit there are a lot of filters and stuff
01:58 PM rue_shop3: humidity
01:58 PM rue_shop3: uv
02:16 PM rue_mohr: ok, I found a UPS to check out for the computer
02:16 PM rue_mohr: and moved some stuff from the kitchen to storage, but
02:16 PM rue_mohr: I forogot I said to soeone I whip them off a quick 3d print
02:18 PM Tom_L: you were gonna make a plastic test pin too i think
02:41 PM rue_mohr: I have a lot of plastic round stock I can use
04:50 PM polprog: 10 minutes left
04:56 PM rue_shop3: ok, to get the file cabinet off the deck I need to clear space in the shop
04:57 PM rue_shop3: to do that I need to find a new home for 2 computers, plate stock, and a tube of rods, 3 boxes of power adatpers, and a box of brushless motors
04:57 PM rue_shop3: nobody said it would be easy
05:08 PM polprog: happy new year, now from 2024
05:08 PM polprog: :)
05:42 PM rue_mohr: awe damnit
05:42 PM rue_mohr: turns out it wasn't the UPS
05:42 PM rue_mohr: one of my huge batteries is shot
05:45 PM rue_mohr: 12V 75AH gel
05:59 PM rue_mohr: yea, I guessed good $300
05:59 PM rue_mohr: huh, free delivery tho
06:30 PM Tom_L: the 'free' delivery is in the $300 cost
06:31 PM Tom_L: get some truck batteries
06:35 PM rue_mohr: Ah is usually low
06:36 PM rue_mohr: and the charger is meant for gel
06:36 PM rue_mohr: I have a LOT of 5.5Ah batteries, but
06:37 PM Tom_L: i got an rv one i'll never use
06:37 PM rue_mohr: the replacement cost of the 75Ah is lower
06:37 PM rue_mohr: I need 24V for the ups
06:37 PM rue_mohr: for time, I can build a bank of 5.5Ah
06:37 PM rue_mohr: or pay $300 for a partner to the battery I have now
06:38 PM rue_mohr: batteries in series are supposed to be matched
06:38 PM Tom_L: i have a ups i'll probably toss one of these days
06:38 PM rue_mohr: but the other one seems ok enough
06:38 PM rue_mohr: I think I get about 40h of runtime with the 75Ah batteries
06:40 PM rue_mohr: I have the 5.5Ah ones tho
08:52 PM Tom_L: hahaha cnc wire bender!
08:58 PM Tom_L: adjusting springback a little
09:07 PM rue_shop3: :)
09:07 PM rue_shop3: I just realized an issue, the shop has MULTIPLE bins of plate material that have formed
09:07 PM rue_shop3: thought this was just a 1 bin issue
09:09 PM rue_shop3: maybe if I put the plate material in the shed that I'm taking the pipe fittings out of
09:09 PM rue_shop3: seems to be a larger issue I need to work out a solution for anyhow
09:10 PM rue_shop3: idea
09:16 PM Tom_L: video to come
09:25 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/V_Spring1.jpg
09:25 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Spring/V_Spring2.jpg
09:25 PM Tom_L: consistent for sure
09:26 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOFYApGVcQI
09:27 PM Tom_L: ~3-5deg springback
09:27 PM rue_shop2: :)
09:28 PM Tom_L: i wanted to test the closeness of the pin to the wire
09:28 PM Tom_L: i think it's fine
09:29 PM Tom_L: on yours to get the first loop past the wire bend, i wouldn't bend it quite to a 90 deg so the wire sticks up a tiny bit
09:29 PM Tom_L: that way when it loops around it should cross over the first loop
09:30 PM Tom_L: i could run it alot faster
09:32 PM Tom_L: i could do the loop one but i'd have to use a smaller loop since all i have are .250" pins
09:38 PM rue_shop2: tom., haha thats cool!!
09:38 PM Tom_L: i think these V would work wrapping the wire around the pin making a gradual bend
09:39 PM rue_shop2: it will clear everything fine if it goes around the inside, and they like to have things not stick out
09:39 PM Tom_L: i made the hole the wire sticks in a little big on purpose
09:39 PM Tom_L: wanna make one of these jigs and try it?
09:39 PM Tom_L: i can post the hole locations and give you the bend code
09:40 PM Tom_L: just 3 holes but you need 2 .125" dowel pins
09:40 PM Tom_L: or broken cutters :)
09:42 PM Tom_L: just one pin might work. i just used 2 because i didn't know how much the wire would flex
09:49 PM rue_shop2: I have the shop all torn apart at the moment
09:49 PM Tom_L: yeah i'm gonna go relax a while anyway
09:50 PM rue_shop2: I do want to try it
09:50 PM Tom_L: really all you need is 2 holes and i can center the code over the forming pin
09:50 PM Tom_L: so all you'd need to do would be zero the pin out
09:50 PM Tom_L: and set the 'tool' 1" above the plate
09:52 PM Tom_L: that was 6 ipm, i'm sure it could do 20 or so pretty easy
09:53 PM Tom_L: i wanted to prove it first
10:46 PM rue_shop3: -) replace battery in solar yard lights
10:48 PM rue_shop2: -) replace battery in shop UPS
10:48 PM rue_shop2: -) clean shop bench
10:48 PM rue_shop2: ^^^ table
