10:55 AM rue_mohr: I had a dream that I was using a new version of BASIC that has built-in support for 2d and 3d primitives with collision detection (and point testing) It was being used in a 2d GUI
11:09 AM rue_mohr: the power went out, apparently my router UPS needs new batteries
12:06 PM Tom_L: climb is better
12:18 PM rue_mohr: yep, have a set done up for climb
12:18 PM rue_mohr: did 2 thou on the finishing pass
12:29 PM Tom_L: good
12:40 PM rue_shop2: socat pty,link=/dev/ttySEther2,raw,echo=0 tcp:192.168.9.14:44
12:44 PM rue_shop2: there is a command to reset the Wpos to 0,0,0
05:53 PM rue_shop2: ok, next part started, climb milling
05:58 PM Tom_L: sound any different?
05:58 PM rue_shop2: yup
05:58 PM Tom_L: not as angry ehh
05:58 PM rue_shop2: is climb milling also reffered to as 'downcut'?
05:58 PM Tom_L: i dunno
05:58 PM rue_shop2: huh
05:59 PM rue_shop2: I had it in my head it was "climb" and "downcut"
05:59 PM rue_shop2: and I thought climb was the other way
06:00 PM Tom_L: nope
06:00 PM rue_shop2: I dont know *when* I got it mixed up
06:01 PM rue_shop2: the new method of operating it over the network is nice
06:01 PM rue_shop2: the spooler program is on the shared network drive
06:01 PM rue_shop2: so I can just spin the program up on any computer and use the cnc with it
06:02 PM rue_shop2: today the workstation I'v been using so far was acting up, so I switched to this one
06:02 PM Tom_L: you know maybe you are right. all i know is it is better to ease into the cut and end up at the end of each tooth with a full cut
06:02 PM rue_shop2: someone else on twitter suggested I climb mill when they saw the other video
06:02 PM Tom_L: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0361/9969/4476/files/CLIMBvCONV.jpg?v=1675903898
06:02 PM rue_shop2: oh and I looked it up on google
06:03 PM rue_shop2: yea, so where did I get 'down cut' from!?
06:03 PM Tom_L: acording to that diagram it is climb but it grabs more
06:03 PM Tom_L: whichever takes the most material at the end of each tooth's travel into the material
06:04 PM Tom_L: so maybe it is called conventional
06:04 PM Tom_L: all i know is that's how i do it
06:05 PM rue_shop2: on *this* part, I dialed up the finish pass to 2 thou also
06:05 PM Tom_L: look better?
06:05 PM rue_shop2: so far!
06:06 PM rue_shop2: the machine can only do about 300mm/min, I'm running at 200
06:06 PM rue_shop2: so, it takes about 30mins
06:06 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A12_New/A12_4.jpg
06:06 PM Tom_L: can't really argue with the finish
06:07 PM rue_shop2: :)
06:08 PM Tom_L: whichever it is called, i go CCW on OD and CW on ID
06:08 PM Tom_L: err no, just the opposite
06:11 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuVlVK4ChKA
06:11 PM rue_shop2: I'm quite happy with the blank size so far, its not too small, but isn't wasting a lot of material
06:18 PM rue_shop2: the load and RPM meter would be nice
06:19 PM Tom_L: got up to 109F here today
06:20 PM rue_mohr: sounds really hot
06:26 PM rue_shop2: I should go deeper on finishing, maybe 4 or 5 thou
06:26 PM Tom_L: didn't clean up?
06:27 PM Tom_L: 5 isn't too much
06:27 PM rue_shop2: its not quite taking out all the pass marks
06:29 PM Tom_L: depends how much tool deflection you're getting
06:40 PM rue_shop2: done!
06:41 PM rue_shop2: next week I can cast the rest of the blanks and get them milled up
06:46 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1290208.jpg
06:46 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1290209.jpg
06:50 PM Tom_L: not bad
07:29 PM rue_shop2: the angle on the crank is wrong so I have to V the engine to get 90 degrees
