12:06 AM rue_shop2: well, nothing bad happened...
12:24 AM rue_mohr: Dear internet, I think I have a new favorite piece of metal.

12:24 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1290193.jpg
04:33 AM Tom_L: looks good
04:36 AM Tom_L: i think you could have taken a deeper cut with that large a cutter
04:36 AM Tom_L: little higher rpm
04:37 AM Tom_L: feed was close, maybe a little higher but higher rpm...
04:39 AM Tom_L: the machine will tell you when it's had enough
08:24 AM rue_mohr: some parts sounded a bit heavy
08:25 AM rue_mohr: had my hand on the speed dial as it went
11:32 AM rue_mohr: two emergency calls last night kinda messed me up,
11:32 AM rue_mohr: what depth do you use for a final pass?
11:32 AM Tom_L: full
11:33 AM rue_mohr: erm
11:33 AM rue_mohr: cleaning pass,
11:33 AM rue_mohr: a few thou?
11:33 AM Tom_L: just more of a spring cut
11:33 AM rue_mohr: oh, not Z, xy
11:34 AM rue_mohr: full z of course :)
11:34 AM Tom_L: full Z and maybe .002-.003" spring cut
11:34 AM rue_mohr: ok
11:35 AM Tom_L: climb cut as much as possible
11:35 AM rue_mohr: it always uses climb
11:36 AM rue_mohr: https://twitter.com/RueNahcMohr/status/1691681701163057619
11:36 AM rue_mohr: will it play you the clip?
11:36 AM Tom_L: yup
11:36 AM rue_mohr: ok
11:37 AM rue_mohr: that was the rough pass(es)
11:37 AM Tom_L: that's conventional cutting though
11:37 AM rue_mohr: I should have it mounted better
11:37 AM rue_mohr: ? thats climb..
11:37 AM Tom_L: that's conventional cutting
11:37 AM * rue_mohr spins his fingers for a min
11:38 AM rue_mohr: cutter comes up off the material finished surface....
11:38 AM Tom_L: the cutter hits the full cut depth as it touches the material and works it way shallower on the way out
11:38 AM rue_mohr: am I losing it?
11:38 AM Tom_L: climb cutting eases into the material to full tooth depth at the end
11:39 AM Tom_L: like a cat paw grabs yer back :)
11:39 AM rue_mohr: oh wtf, it got reversed in my head
11:40 AM rue_mohr: how did that happen
11:40 AM Tom_L: anyway, conventional reqires more HP from the spindle
11:40 AM Tom_L: and it grabs the material pulling the cutter into it
11:40 AM rue_mohr: yea, I...
11:41 AM rue_mohr: dont know how I got it mixed up
11:41 AM rue_mohr: I wonder how I tell the cam software to reverse the path
11:43 AM Tom_L: OD CW, ID CCW
11:43 AM rue_mohr: the cam auto does conventional
11:43 AM Tom_L: i tell mine CW or CCW
11:43 AM Tom_L: that's crazy
11:44 AM Tom_L: you should load mine and learn it
11:45 AM Tom_L: it's not super easy but i can do anything with it
11:45 AM rue_mohr: I think you build the program more manually tho?
11:45 AM Tom_L: and i've got my tool table to match the mill tool table and found feed/speed that work on it
11:46 AM Tom_L: not always but still check everything
11:46 AM rue_mohr: I select the profiles and say "outline, pocket, engrave" etc
11:46 AM Tom_L: it does profiles, pockets, txt etc
11:46 AM rue_mohr: I'm russing off to work
11:47 AM Tom_L: i have one here in 30min or so
11:47 AM rue_mohr: :)
11:47 AM Tom_L: it takes a while to learn mine and it's old but it works great
11:48 AM Tom_L: i hardly ever check the gcode output now the post works that good
11:48 AM rue_mohr: yup
11:48 AM rue_mohr: you can do tihings with it that I cant with mine too
11:48 AM Tom_L: it has a few quirks
11:48 AM Tom_L: but doesn't anything?
11:49 AM Tom_L: 1461 views :)
11:50 AM Tom_L: you should be cutting that 2x as deep per pass if the spindle has the HP
11:51 AM Tom_L: ~3k rpm instead of 2 as well
11:51 AM Tom_L: and a bit more feed
11:56 AM aandrew: nice, this 100W panel produces 19V open circuit and 750mA short circuit through the tinted rear window of my car in bright sunlight
11:57 AM aandrew: wonder what I can meaninfully extract from it in this configuration
02:03 PM polprog: https://youtu.be/2SrqHM7Uue0
02:03 PM polprog: some amazing huge granite lathe around 18' mark
02:03 PM polprog: the tool chuck is huge
02:04 PM polprog: oh wait, the chuck is the part that holds the piece
02:31 PM Tom_L: pretty cool
06:15 PM rue_mohr: the chaff is missing
06:15 PM rue_mohr: there should be a big bed or rock and sand
06:15 PM rue_mohr: I wonder what shut them down
06:18 PM rue_mohr: and I wonder what they powered it with
06:27 PM rue_mohr: oh there
06:27 PM rue_mohr: earlier
06:47 PM rue_mohr: pneumatic, I guess the lines were too long for steam
06:49 PM rue_mohr: 1 cyl steam engines, probably a pain to get going
06:49 PM rue_mohr: lots of locos are 4
06:49 PM rue_mohr: 2 hidden under, between the wheels
06:49 PM rue_mohr: were
06:49 PM rue_mohr: hmm
07:07 PM Tom_L: go get one of those for your steam engine
09:05 PM rue_mohr: :)
10:40 PM rue_mohr: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/166068679030?epid=1725199341
10:40 PM rue_mohr: I have one of these!
10:40 PM rue_mohr: I'm rich!
10:40 PM rue_mohr: I just have to sell it!
