02:02 AM rue_mohr: ?
11:24 AM polprog: aaaaaaaa
11:24 AM polprog: im back
11:25 AM Tom_L: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
11:25 AM * Tom_L storms out of the room
11:25 AM Tom_L: :)
08:07 PM rue_mohr: ok, what are the todo things
08:24 PM Tom_L: 555 :)
08:36 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, do you ever program avr anymore?
08:38 PM Tom_L: found something i didn't know i had you may be interested in
08:39 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/FUSE_BITS/
08:40 PM Tom_L: meh, those look like mostly older ones
09:11 PM WormFood: Interesting 555 stuff there rue_mohr ;)
09:35 PM rue_mohr: :]
09:35 PM rue_mohr: you on twitteR?
09:35 PM WormFood: Nope.
09:35 PM rue_mohr: huh
09:35 PM WormFood: yeah. I don't use twitter, or farcebook.
09:36 PM rue_mohr: :]
09:36 PM rue_mohr: I'm trying to use twtter as a advertizing platform that I exist
09:36 PM rue_mohr: to find anyone else like me
09:36 PM WormFood: I just got my ham license, and 2 new radios, so I'm getting that all setup. I got a Flex-3000, which is a SDR, and I had a lot of problems getting Windows setup for it.
09:36 PM rue_mohr: its found some cool people
09:36 PM WormFood: Nice!
09:37 PM rue_mohr: 5000+ followers
09:37 PM rue_mohr: so, there is carriage
09:37 PM WormFood: Today was the first day I was able to transmit with my new radio. I'm now ready to start making contacts with it. I want to use the digital modes, like JT8, but I can't, because my computer isn't powerful enough.
09:38 PM WormFood: My computer that is powerful enough, won't work, because it insists on sharing the IRQ on the firewire card, and shit don't work right, and microsoft won't fix it. Very frustrating. So, the only machine I can get to work, is too old and slow. It works for basic stuff, but not anything fancy.
09:38 PM Tom_L: what sort of antenna do you have?
09:39 PM rue_mohr: WormFood, so, re ham...
09:39 PM WormFood: I currently have 3 antennas up. A 2M ringo ranger. A 2m/70cm, mag mount (on my roof), and an Antron 99A antenna. Can be tuned for 10-12M, but they claim it can be used down to 17M with a tuner (and I believe that, but not tried it yet)
09:39 PM WormFood: Yeah.
09:39 PM WormFood: I was a ham in the past, but my license expired.
09:40 PM WormFood: When I was a ham before, you had to know CW, to advance your license.
09:40 PM WormFood: So, I was never able to upgrade to general, or above.
09:40 PM WormFood: Now, they've simplified the licenses, and removed the CW requirements, so when I went to take my test, I took all three tests at the same time, and just went straight to Extra class.
09:41 PM rue_mohr: what time zone are you in?
09:42 PM WormFood: In USA, we have 3 tests. Tech, General, and Extra. Probably 1/2 the stuff on the General test, is on the Tech test. And probably 30-40% of what is in the Extra test, is also in the General test. So, if you stack your studying, you can get all at the same time, for less effort.
09:42 PM WormFood: I'm in EDT
09:42 PM WormFood: EL89
09:43 PM WormFood: EL89 is my grid square.
09:43 PM WormFood: If you want to look it up, you can get more accurate, with EL89wa
09:44 PM rue_mohr: I'm looking for the other ham on twitter
09:44 PM WormFood: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/07/d8/6c/07d86c55e1f344a3661c350fc5b45a59.jpg <-- I'm gonna get this radio next.
09:45 PM WormFood: It also shares the same mic I have on my new radio (actually have 2 here that use that same mic)
09:47 PM Tom_L: gator land
09:52 PM rue_mohr: J5WREX
09:53 PM rue_mohr: not the person I thought tho, so, there must be another
09:53 PM rue_mohr: VK2LAG
09:53 PM rue_mohr: aha thats the one
09:55 PM WormFood: Who is that?
09:55 PM rue_mohr: ask them, tell them Rue sent ya
09:56 PM rue_mohr: 2M
09:56 PM WormFood: Sounds like they could be you.
09:56 PM rue_mohr: hah no
09:57 PM WormFood: I know. Wrong part of the world.
09:57 PM WormFood: But still....looks like it could easily be an OZzie reflection of you ;)
09:57 PM rue_mohr: I found some neat people
09:58 PM WormFood: I heard a VK station earlier tonight. I wasn't really setup to talk, so I didn't try to contact them, but I'm ready now.
09:58 PM rue_mohr: what time (gmt) you listening?
09:59 PM WormFood: I don't have my logging all setup, but I'm working on that. So, for now, I just printed out a page, for my logs, in which I'll later transfer into my logging program (whatever I choose to use)
09:59 PM WormFood: I honestly don't remember what time.
09:59 PM rue_mohr: ah
09:59 PM WormFood: Probably around 3-5 pm, my time.
09:59 PM WormFood: They just jacked up our clocks.
09:59 PM rue_mohr: "channel?"
10:00 PM WormFood: So, I'm UTC+6 now?
10:00 PM WormFood: Frequency would have been in the novice/tech portion of the 10m band.
10:00 PM WormFood: so, 28.3-28.5 area
10:01 PM rue_mohr: oh, not 2m?
10:01 PM WormFood: Oh no.
10:01 PM WormFood: 2m rarely gets long distance, and even in the best of times, I'm pretty sure I'd never be able to reach OZ
10:01 PM WormFood: 2m = 144-148MHz
10:01 PM WormFood: So, that's VHF
10:02 PM rue_mohr: whats yer code?
10:02 PM WormFood: Some of the lower VHF frequencies, are sorta in a no man's land, where they mostly act like VHF, but when they conditions are just right, they become world-wide...but that doesn't happen often.
10:02 PM WormFood: We're coming into a new sunspot cycle, so that will give us years of good radio conditions.
10:03 PM WormFood: My code? Like CW? 5 WPM.....oh, you mean my call sign?
10:03 PM rue_mohr: yea
10:03 PM WormFood: I /msg'ed it to you
10:45 PM rue_mohr: so my two "free" 8 port gig switches arrived
10:45 PM rue_mohr: 'bought' with credit card points
10:50 PM WormFood: Oh nice! Send me one, since you have an extra ;)
10:51 PM WormFood: My new SDR radio is pretty cool. Imagine a HackRF, limited to 1-60 MHz range, but with 100 watts of output power.
10:52 PM WormFood: There is a modification, that is just a setting in the radio's firmware, that will allow it to transmit everywhere. Right now, it's limited to just the ham bands.
11:19 PM rue_mohr: hah, I got them for my networkie stuff
11:19 PM rue_mohr: little random upgrades
11:22 PM WormFood: I really want a higher speed switch. I already have a 16 port switch, with 8 PoE ports on it.
11:35 PM rue_mohr: hmm
