04:14 AM rue_shop3: cmos oscillator pulls 3.7mA
04:36 AM rue_shop3: al in all 6mA
04:36 AM rue_shop3: I think I can resistor-drop that off 48V
04:40 AM polprog: morning rue_shop3
04:43 AM Tom_itx: morning
04:43 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
04:45 AM rue_shop3: oh your here this morning
04:45 AM rue_shop3: usually turn on on twitter fierst ;)
04:46 AM rue_shop3: hmm, well, it looks viable
04:46 AM rue_shop3: its 3am
04:46 AM polprog: back home
04:46 AM polprog: i was at gf's
04:46 AM polprog: i got 3 geode SBCs to fix
04:46 AM rue_shop3: trying to do a royer with DIY darlington was not working out
04:46 AM polprog: well, one, cause one is working, one is dead dead, and one is fixable dead
04:47 AM rue_shop3: gain was being too high, couldn't get it under control
04:47 AM rue_shop3: hmh
04:47 AM rue_shop3: mhm
04:47 AM polprog: 10:41 < polprog> if you bought the wrong endianness cpu just install it upside down
04:47 AM polprog: 10:41 < polprog> trust me, i know computers
04:47 AM polprog: 10:43 < polprog> so an optical pulse stretcher works based on the fact that different wavelengths have a diferent phase velocity
04:47 AM polprog: 10:43 < polprog> and so does a pulse compressor, the raio is just opposite
04:47 AM polprog: 10:43 < polprog> i wonder if you can build an electrical pulse stretcher/compressor the same way, build a 2 port network that has a variable phase delay for a range of frequencies
04:47 AM rue_shop3: did you see the thread on the circuit reverse engineer I pulled for tubetime?
04:47 AM polprog: no, i didnt
04:47 AM polprog: i wasnt looking much on tt
04:48 AM rue_shop3: I'm not sure he enjoys my 'help'
04:48 AM rue_shop3: no feedback, at all
04:49 AM polprog: he is strange
04:49 AM polprog: most of them are somewhat antisocial
04:49 AM polprog: or rather, have difficulties talking to people
04:50 AM polprog: they just dump the information into the computer void
04:50 AM polprog: and they only reply if you hit them with hard facts they find useful
04:51 AM rue_shop3: oh drat, on slow power rise the oscillator doesn't always start
04:52 AM rue_shop3: I wonder if I can make a 50% osc chaining two LM556 stages
04:52 AM rue_shop3: not tonight, I should *try* to sleep
04:53 AM Tom_L: yeah it repairs tired brain cells
01:40 PM rue_mohr: well, I'm awake now
01:40 PM rue_mohr: with the help of an inbound phonecall
02:36 PM rue_mohr: its a wonderfully sunny day out!
02:40 PM Tom_L: yay
02:41 PM rue_mohr: I have half an hour before the sun is gone
02:43 PM Tom_L: dude own a drill?
02:43 PM rue_mohr: me? drill? lots...
02:46 PM rue_mohr: oh I have a set of tree limbs to clean up
02:46 PM rue_mohr: but breakfast....
02:46 PM rue_mohr: oh I got some oats :/
02:46 PM rue_mohr: everything else was crazy expensive
02:47 PM Tom_L: water bill was $72
02:47 PM rue_mohr: those miniature boxes of breakfast serial are like $10 now
02:48 PM rue_mohr: - breakfast
02:48 PM rue_mohr: - clean up tree limbs
02:48 PM rue_mohr: - cmos 555 ring oscillator
02:48 PM Tom_L: i bagged leaves yesterday... again
02:48 PM rue_mohr: I cut off some ~6" limbs from the tree
02:48 PM rue_mohr: wow they are heavy!
02:49 PM Tom_L: well yeah
02:49 PM rue_mohr: the big one planted itself more than 4" into the ground
02:50 PM Tom_L: trying to keep growing?
02:50 PM rue_mohr: hah
02:50 PM rue_mohr: I'm not sure if I should tar the tree where it came off
02:50 PM rue_mohr: was that just a fruit tree thing?
02:51 PM Tom_L: dunno
02:51 PM rue_mohr: hmm
02:51 PM Tom_L: if you cut your arm off would you apply tar?
02:51 PM rue_mohr: hmmm
02:53 PM rue_mohr: I dont want oats for breakfast
02:53 PM rue_mohr: its last lunch anyhow
02:58 PM rue_mohr: ok, getting dressed seems to be a big component of doing things in a day
02:58 PM rue_mohr: I'd rather go back to sleep tho
02:59 PM rue_mohr: --
02:59 PM rue_mohr: inductors
02:59 PM rue_mohr: so, saturation is at a set amp-turns
03:00 PM rue_mohr: you can add a gap to a core, but it will only change the rate the current ramps?
03:00 PM rue_mohr: or does it change the saturation point
03:01 PM rue_mohr: it doesn't the material still saturates at the same flux density
03:01 PM rue_mohr: hmm
03:01 PM rue_mohr: I still dont get it
03:04 PM rue_mohr: --
03:04 PM rue_mohr: as the weatehr gets colder its more important to finish the automatic sun mirror to help heat my room
03:06 PM rue_mohr: using a wire wound pot for the X feedback wasn't such a hot idea, the non-linearities are crazy
03:06 PM rue_mohr: and a deadband of 10 is way too high
03:13 PM rue_mohr: I think I can survive winter if I keep the bedroom and bathroom heated
03:14 PM rue_mohr: its nov 1
03:14 PM rue_mohr: in 2016 I made it to Nov 28
03:14 PM rue_mohr: tho, the boiler was probably working up till then
03:18 PM rue_mohr: --
03:18 PM rue_mohr: it takes 1.7mA to drive two FETs at 20kHz
03:18 PM rue_mohr: which is odd, cuase driving one fet takes 1.5mA
04:31 PM rue_mohr: I'd have made like $500 already if I rented that shed out for dry storage
04:31 PM rue_mohr: I suppose thats only 1/14 the selling price, but it would be progress
04:38 PM rue_mohr: ok, thats enough yard cleanup for today
04:39 PM Tom_L: feel free to come finish mine
04:40 PM rue_mohr: oh, mines not done yet
04:41 PM Tom_L: you want somebody else parking their crap on your property?
04:43 PM rue_mohr: well, it'd be $100/mo
04:43 PM rue_mohr: and in a shed thats not going anywhere anyhow
04:44 PM rue_mohr: storage is crazy expensive here, $100 for 96 sq feet would be super low
08:12 PM Tom_L: $1 / sq ft
08:48 PM rue_shop3: I think its usually about 300 or more
08:48 PM rue_shop3: well, I think I'm getting closer with the power converter
09:26 PM rue_mohr: 3186 I think its just staying still now
09:26 PM rue_mohr: oh maybe it did get bigger...
09:26 PM rue_mohr: huh
09:27 PM rue_mohr: so
09:27 PM rue_mohr: today I tried a dual 555 oscillator, a schmitt inverter oscillator, a transistor oscillator with a flipflop, and a switching power supply controller
09:27 PM rue_mohr: the power supply controller has the worst signal and consumes the most power
09:28 PM rue_mohr: the flipflop circuit seems to be the best
09:28 PM rue_mohr: I was focused on building a discrete flipflop to make the circuit small
09:28 PM rue_mohr: but its the most complex part, so I acually save the most room using a chip for that
09:29 PM rue_mohr: didn't think of it that way during the persuit
09:29 PM rue_mohr: I'd like to find a flipflop in a dip8 tho
09:29 PM rue_mohr: one that can run on 15V
09:38 PM Tom_L: https://shop.griederbauteile.ch/product_info.php?products_id=2212&language=en
09:38 PM Tom_L: i used to use alot of those and some half that wide
09:38 PM rue_mohr: !!!!!
09:39 PM rue_mohr: oh 5V
09:39 PM Tom_L: i bet if i dug long enough i could find some
09:39 PM rue_mohr: hmm
09:39 PM Tom_L: organ divider
09:39 PM rue_mohr: yea, I didn't know those existed, NTE = $$$ buy they just relabel
09:39 PM Tom_L: 70's? era
09:39 PM rue_mohr: hah
09:40 PM Tom_L: i got rid of most of that crap
09:40 PM rue_mohr: :(
09:40 PM Tom_L: but have a couple boxes left i think
09:41 PM rue_mohr: ooo if you have it out some time fire me a photo!
09:42 PM Tom_L: i'm not even sure where it is or if i still..
09:43 PM Tom_L: alot were custom ICs
09:44 PM rue_mohr: according to dk, the highest V is 5
09:49 PM Tom_L: google doesn't know what those are
09:49 PM rue_mohr: heh
