01:19 AM rue_shop3: so, royer oscillators dont use lots of turns
01:28 AM rue_shop3: ~10 turns is looking mid range
01:28 AM rue_shop3: WormFood, you gonna say anything?
01:30 AM rue_shop3: just that your alive is good :]
01:30 AM rue_shop3: I'm ok
01:30 AM rue_shop3: left my job
01:31 AM rue_shop3: they were cornering me out of hours and turning away long term clients that knew me and making policies to not do product safety checks before selling things
01:31 AM rue_shop3: NOPE!
01:32 AM rue_shop3: I'm measuring inductors to see if they are suitable for royer oscillators and getting the data!
01:34 AM rue_shop3: polprog,"Kb" is usually in the ballpark of 150000
01:34 AM rue_shop3: thats the total flux at saturation
01:39 AM WormFood: You're very talented, skillful, and smart. I have no doubt, you can find a new job, if you haven't already.
01:43 AM rue_shop3: :( the cap in the monitor of my scope is getting really bad all the sudden, stopping for today
01:43 AM rue_shop3: WormFood, I'm just taking a bit of a break
01:44 AM WormFood: Breaks are good
01:44 AM rue_shop3: not when its my $1000 tektronics TDS754C scope....
01:44 AM rue_shop3: its been most totally awesome
01:44 AM WormFood: But you can fix it.
01:44 AM rue_shop3: I should be able to, yes
01:44 AM rue_shop3: its a cap
01:45 AM rue_shop3: I can see it in the way its failing
01:45 AM rue_shop3: well, I'm sure, doesn't mean I'm right
01:45 AM WormFood: You can replace it for a little over $700
01:46 AM WormFood: I know what you mean. You can't prove it, at this point, but you're 99% sure you know what the problem is. Right?
01:47 AM rue_shop3: shipping to canada is a killer
01:47 AM rue_shop3: esp on a nice light fragile tek scope
01:47 AM WormFood: https://www.ebay.com/itm/374305068669 already in canada
01:47 AM rue_shop3: I shouldn't mix my sarcasm like that, get confusing
01:48 AM WormFood: I used to have a Tektronics scope, years ago. It was really nice. I mean, for the technology.
01:48 AM rue_shop3: mine passes the self test too, then in the detail logs you can see it say "by the way, I have no ram, so, the following buffers will be allocated at 0 bytes..."
01:49 AM WormFood: The only problem was, the power supply for the scope, weighed like 100 lbs, and you had to put the scope and power supply on a cart. But it had a lot of plugin modules. All tubes. Really old.
01:49 AM rue_shop3: I set up a parallel to serial converter for 115kbaud, I can get screens as postscript
01:49 AM rue_shop3: I also have used a usb vga capture gizmo to record video
01:49 AM WormFood: That's an interesting way to do it.
01:49 AM rue_shop3: "as i dial up the time, the waveform does the following"
01:50 AM rue_shop3: or see filter behaviour etc etc
01:50 AM rue_shop3: well, I learned a lot today
01:50 AM rue_shop3: I'd like to keep going and measure a bunch more of my cores
01:51 AM WormFood: sounds like a plan
01:51 AM rue_shop3: might ahve to fix the scope first
01:51 AM rue_shop3: I'll let it cool off and see what its looking like
01:51 AM rue_shop3: the colour switcher is ok, and apparently those going is a big problem
01:57 AM WormFood: I think you can handle it
02:19 AM rue_shop3: L6384
03:13 AM rue_mohr: polprog, oh your awake again
09:17 AM polprog: yea
01:27 PM rue_mohr: the 1G cards I got from china have a regulator thats baking.
01:27 PM rue_mohr: I think it killed one of the cards
02:40 PM polprog: oops
03:27 PM aandrew: man rue_mohr your scope captures are awesome
03:40 PM rue_mohr: thanks
03:40 PM rue_mohr: I hope its going to be ok, the horizontal issue was gettin bad last night
03:41 PM rue_mohr: today I plan to clear the bench and set up some space to pick over it
03:41 PM rue_mohr: its been indicating trouble for a while now
03:41 PM rue_mohr: also have an SSD I can pop in there
04:08 PM Tom_L: https://www.gofundme.com/f/remora-firmware-development?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1

04:16 PM rue_mohr: ?
04:24 PM Tom_L: converting the firmware to use with linuxcnc
06:19 PM rue_mohr: wow
06:20 PM rue_mohr: I made the invoice database back in about 2004, it still works
06:27 PM Tom_L: why wouldn't it?
06:28 PM rue_mohr: technology is dynamic
06:35 PM Tom_L: what's it written in?
06:37 PM rue_mohr: php
06:37 PM rue_mohr: https://sunshine.craigslist.org/ele/d/north-island-power-supply/7547692264.html
06:38 PM rue_mohr: I wonder who that is
06:38 PM rue_mohr: https://sunshine.craigslist.org/ele/d/north-island-programable-lock/7543967333.html
06:38 PM rue_mohr: and who would etch a custom pcb for... that!?
06:40 PM Tom_L: you got competetion
06:41 PM rue_mohr: sometimes things show up locally that get me interested
06:41 PM rue_mohr: there was a load of old electronics stuff that got to one of the thrift sotres
06:42 PM rue_mohr: a bag of about 2000 10 postiion dip switches
06:42 PM rue_mohr: 8-|
07:02 PM rue_mohr: https://sunshine.craigslist.org/tls/d/north-island-soldapullt-model-ds017/7533191629.html
07:02 PM rue_mohr: someone has been up to something
07:12 PM Tom_L: i had one of similar but didn't care for it much
07:12 PM rue_mohr: is there a difference between a side table and an end table/
07:12 PM rue_mohr: yes, but someone is up to electronics
07:13 PM Tom_L: One notable difference is that side tables typically have a larger surface area (approx. 18" to 26" diameter/square) than end tables
07:13 PM rue_mohr: side table it is then!
07:29 PM rue_mohr: oh tom, do you think you would be into making that guy some more of those plastic splines?
07:30 PM rue_mohr: I should check since I left the company, but it eventaully ate them up
08:28 PM Tom_L: possibly
08:28 PM Tom_L: i dunno what i called that program
08:36 PM Tom_L: how close a fit was it?
08:36 PM Tom_L: would brass work?
09:22 PM rue_mohr: I think it needs the give for when people do stupid things
09:22 PM rue_mohr: the first one died when he did something stupid, his own words
10:02 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr,
10:02 PM rue_mohr: y
10:05 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/coupler/Coupler_brass.jpg
10:06 PM rue_mohr: hahaha
10:06 PM rue_mohr: that took you like 7 minutes didn't it?
10:06 PM rue_mohr: hah
10:06 PM Tom_L: well i did have to find the program and cut a hunk of brass
10:06 PM rue_mohr: now I hope he still has the tool
10:06 PM Tom_L: no matter
10:06 PM rue_mohr: oh, where is that image from?
10:06 PM Tom_L: i haven't had the mill on in quite a while
10:07 PM Tom_L: ?
10:07 PM rue_mohr: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/coupler/Coupler_brass.jpg
10:07 PM rue_mohr: ^^?
10:07 PM Tom_L: sitting in the vise on my mill
10:07 PM rue_mohr: now?
10:07 PM Tom_L: still
10:07 PM Tom_L: i left it there for now
10:07 PM rue_mohr: ... when did you do them?
10:08 PM Tom_L: just now
10:08 PM rue_mohr: yea, thats what I meant, you just made 'em.... wow
10:08 PM Tom_L: wasn't sure about the feeds but i let it go anyway
10:09 PM Tom_L: how well did the plastic ones fit?
10:09 PM rue_mohr: perfect iirc
10:09 PM Tom_L: cause brass doesn't give like plastic
10:10 PM Tom_L: i'll find a hunk of plastic and run a couple of those too
10:10 PM rue_mohr: :s I'm not sure if he still has the tool...
10:10 PM rue_mohr: I can confirm tommorow
10:12 PM rue_mohr: this is awful early for me to be tired
10:13 PM Tom_L: .. so that still works
10:14 PM Tom_L: used every bit of the length of those tools
10:14 PM rue_mohr: :)
10:14 PM rue_mohr: tiny
10:14 PM rue_mohr: end mills or drills?
10:14 PM Tom_L: i was kinda wondering about that
10:14 PM Tom_L: endmills
10:15 PM Tom_L: 1/16 & 1/32
10:17 PM Tom_L: with .125 shank so they have a shoulder i was wondering about
11:35 PM rue_mohr: well I should go clean space for reparing the scope
11:35 PM rue_mohr: ugh
