11:32 AM rue_mohr: polprog, is that book just a school print?
12:24 PM rue_mohr: whaaaat?
12:24 PM rue_mohr: "bentonite clay consumption in casting sand"
12:27 PM rue_mohr: https://foundrygate.com/upload/artigos/Bentonite%20Clay%20Consumption%20in%20Green%20Sand.pdf
12:27 PM rue_mohr: well damn
12:45 PM rue_mohr: I'll ahve to make a bunch more bentonite powder and rework the whole lot
12:45 PM rue_mohr: dry it all out and re-sift it
12:45 PM rue_mohr: remix it 30/70
12:46 PM Tom_L: well you got a plan now
12:47 PM rue_mohr: I didn't know the clay breaks down!!!
12:47 PM Tom_L: i didn't read that
12:47 PM rue_mohr: "consumption"
12:47 PM Tom_L: yeah
12:47 PM rue_mohr: I only needed the title :)
12:47 PM rue_mohr: I know how much too
12:48 PM rue_mohr: when I do a casting, there is a 'shell' of solidified sand right around the metal
12:48 PM rue_mohr: about 1cm thick
12:48 PM rue_mohr: I have to chip it off
12:48 PM rue_mohr: I assumed that when I re-wet it, it was ok again
12:48 PM Tom_L: i'd probably discard that part
12:49 PM rue_mohr: I might take to seperating it and re-adding bentonite to it
12:49 PM rue_mohr: its already dry, its easy to rework
12:50 PM rue_mohr: I saw a youtube vid with a fellow making the clay into a slurry and then mixing in the other stuff and drying it all to spec
12:50 PM rue_mohr: so I might seee if I can find a kitchen mixer today too
12:51 PM Tom_L: gonna make a cake?
12:51 PM Tom_L: :)
12:52 PM Tom_L: https://www.homedepot.com/b/Building-Materials-Drywall-Drywall-Tools-Drywall-Compound-Tools/Mud-Mixer/N-5yc1vZckyeZ1z18dz1
12:52 PM Tom_L: i got one of those
12:52 PM Tom_L: you need a hefty drill
12:52 PM rue_mohr: oh yea
12:52 PM rue_mohr: I have a paint mixer
12:53 PM rue_mohr: ok, ok, good point
12:53 PM Tom_L: take one layer off and use only one
12:55 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if I can get the current sand to do one casting,
12:55 PM rue_mohr: if I can, I can use the heat to dry out all the sand for remixing
12:55 PM Tom_L: dunno, you feelin lucky?
01:57 PM rue_mohr: first I see if Ic an do the mold, then light the fire
01:57 PM rue_mohr: I have to go into town and do a bunch of stuff tho
04:59 PM polprog: rue_mohr: it has theory, drawings and photos but only conceptual schematics
04:59 PM polprog: still, i picked it up for you (and for me too)
05:01 PM polprog: it talks mostly about fluxmeters and what you can measure with them
05:01 PM polprog: i need to get a scanner going
05:03 PM polprog: apart from the flux meter it seems to be an info/advert for the guy's compay's automated magnetic material test system
05:03 PM polprog: but there is a good deal of practical measurement tips
05:12 PM polprog: I can scan it for you sooner or later
05:12 PM polprog: it has drawings for different types of probes that can be attached to a fluxmeter to measure different quantities
05:13 PM Tom_L: flux capacitors?
05:15 PM polprog: no we dont build these
05:15 PM polprog: do you want to repeat the Helvetica Accident of 1985?
05:18 PM Tom_L: :)
05:20 PM polprog: :)
06:49 PM rue_mohr: ok
06:49 PM rue_mohr: on seeing the book
07:09 PM Tom_L: kid is spoiled.. they put him on 2 brand new Starrag 6 axis
07:09 PM Tom_L: https://www.starrag.com/en-us/machine/stc-1600170/183
07:10 PM rue_mohr: as long as he's having fun
07:10 PM Tom_L: he likes it alot better than the first place
07:37 PM Tom_L: how did you center the pulley in the lathe when you machined it?
07:37 PM Tom_L: 4 jaw?
08:26 PM rue_shop3: grabbed it by the hub
08:26 PM rue_shop3: its close enough to a center to machine the outside
08:27 PM rue_shop3: I also machined the inside of the rim, in hopes that I can grab it with the reverse jaws when mounted the other way
08:27 PM rue_shop3: they never have the non-purfume kitty litter
08:27 PM rue_shop3: ugh, stinks
09:01 PM Tom_L: heh
09:01 PM Tom_L: why not try oil dry from the auto store?
09:01 PM Tom_L: same thing isn't it?
09:03 PM Tom_L: haha.. google:
09:03 PM Tom_L: What is the Difference Between Cat Litter and Oil Dri? Cat litter and Oil Dri (Oil Dry) are essentially the same thing. They're both clay-based products that are not capable of absorbing liquids, and both can be hazardous to your health when their dust is inhaled.
09:04 PM Tom_L: bonus: when you're done use it for your casting clay!
09:34 PM rue_mohr: oh
09:34 PM rue_mohr: I wasn't aware of that
09:35 PM rue_mohr: I thought the auto shops were just using kitty litter
09:37 PM Tom_L: heh no
09:37 PM Tom_L: i get a bag every now and then from the auto store
09:37 PM Tom_L: probably cheaper too
10:14 PM rue_mohr: yea, and no purfume
11:54 PM rue_mohr: AC delco, 3K342
11:54 PM rue_mohr: otherwise known as 19252338
11:54 PM rue_mohr: I just cut 1/3 off its width
11:54 PM rue_mohr: I'm not sure, I think its a bit stiff
11:55 PM rue_mohr: getting nowhere with my motor driver
11:56 PM rue_mohr: I wish I had disposable cash to throw at these thigns
11:56 PM rue_mohr: I would if I had my new house (and paid off)
