02:48 AM rue_mohr: so I was ased to make a new membrane keyboard for an fitness machine
02:58 AM rue_mohr: finally drew it all up, osh says $154, I wonder if they will go for it
11:54 AM Tom_L: https://www.monkeyuser.com/2018/define-madness/?sc=true&dir=random
11:56 AM rue_mohr: heh
11:57 AM Tom_L: off today?
11:58 AM Tom_L: setting up debian 11 over lunch
11:59 AM Tom_L: barfs on the nic
11:59 AM Tom_L: 10 was fine with it
12:02 PM rue_mohr: I been off the whole week to help deal with family stuff and catch up
12:02 PM rue_mohr: its not working
02:04 PM aandrew: heh I got my stupid ESP32-arduino based irrigation controller working. found some really good libraries that let me do OTA and MQTT with no sweat whatsoever: https://ibb.co/w4s74v8
02:04 PM aandrew: having some trouble with the flow sensor but I think my pull-up is too weak so when it's really spinning I don't see the pulses. I get a little "blip" of flow when it stops or starts
02:09 PM aandrew: https://pastebin.com/EgzuJuBL is the whole program
02:41 PM rue_mohr: I did mine via arduino, and included the OTA stuff
02:43 PM rue_mohr: oh well I was using an 8266
02:45 PM rue_mohr: play with the spifs sometime for serving files
02:45 PM rue_mohr: I managed to do everything in an svg for that other project
02:45 PM rue_mohr: you can use url callbacks for data insertion
02:47 PM rue_mohr: looks like a great feature set
06:47 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, can this be a cron job?
06:47 PM Tom_L: xset -dpms s off s noblank s 0 0 s noexpose
06:48 PM Tom_L: if so.. how?
06:48 PM Tom_L: for no more screen blanking
06:48 PM rue_mohr: wrong command if it keeps turning the screensaver on
06:48 PM rue_mohr: xset s off dpms force on s noblank s expose -dpms
06:49 PM Tom_L: well he came up with that in startup applications and i suggested he move it to cron
06:52 PM Tom_L: @reboot xset s off dpms force on s noblank s expose -dpms
06:52 PM Tom_L: ?
07:24 PM rue_mohr: hmm I just run it manually once after startup
07:27 PM Tom_L: ^^ that would work though?
07:37 PM rue_mohr: I dont know that new stuff
09:53 PM aandrew: yep, that's way too advanced for me
09:53 PM aandrew: at least for what I need
09:54 PM rue_mohr: it makes a fancy interface really easy
09:54 PM aandrew: I think tonight's the last night I'm manually activating the zones, I built everything into a box now (it ran last night on its own but I took it apart today to put it in the box)
09:54 PM rue_mohr: the svg handles all the graphics and you can make the javascript do your bidding
09:54 PM rue_mohr: :)
09:55 PM aandrew: yeah btu that means i have to learn html
09:56 PM rue_mohr: na, just javascript
09:57 PM aandrew: https://ibb.co/qdgvs6T
09:57 PM aandrew: https://ibb.co/N2T8Mxv
09:57 PM aandrew: those inserts are kind of neat, I was upset when I got the 8P8C one, as soon as I saw it I knew it wasn't RJ45
09:57 PM rue_mohr: yea I like that
09:57 PM aandrew: but then I realized it's just a bulkhead keystone adapter
09:58 PM aandrew: https://ibb.co/fnxXymJ
09:58 PM rue_mohr: oh its not printed
09:58 PM aandrew: but they're still kind of shit, they have nice mounting screws but the DB9 for example I had to grind away a bit so the nut would fit in properly
09:59 PM aandrew: and of course I have 4 mounting holes drilled because I'm an idiot
09:59 PM aandrew: I placed it in the hole from the outside to mark the locations but when I tried to mount it from the inside I discovered I couldn't just rotate it to get the holes to line up. idiot. me.
09:59 PM aandrew: no it's not printed, I'm not much of a 3d modeller
09:59 PM aandrew: it's on my list, but it's a damn long list
10:00 PM rue_mohr: can I give you a tut on how I do modeling?
10:01 PM aandrew: and i have to test the flow sensor, I thought it was just an OC output but it might be push-pull; I was pulling it up to 5V but the ESP32 is 3.3V of course. I changed the pullup to a much stronger (10k -> 220R) one, and also moved it to 3.3V but need to measure the flow sensor tomorrow to make sure it's not push-pull. If it is I'll have to use a diode or resistor divider to make sure I'm not overdriving
10:01 PM aandrew: the ESP32 pin
10:01 PM aandrew: I'm very eager for such a thing but I would be wasting your time, I have about 8 other things on my immediate list so I wouldn't be able to give you the proper attention
10:02 PM rue_mohr: I need to write the valibration numbers into my water dispenser in the kitchen
10:02 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, I'd bet its easier than you think and you would use it sooner than you expect
10:02 PM aandrew: I don't doubt you for a second
10:02 PM rue_mohr: did wasps add the mud for you?
10:03 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, 24hrs, try to do this, install librecad and openscad
10:04 PM aandrew: I think I have openscad installed
10:04 PM aandrew: yep I do, have to install librescad though
10:04 PM rue_mohr: oh they didn't put 4 holes... huh
10:05 PM rue_mohr: do you remember how much the db9 brekout was?
10:05 PM aandrew: yes
10:05 PM aandrew: $12 on amazon, much cheaper on ali: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B09FLD4PZ2
10:05 PM rue_mohr: k, 12 seems steep
10:06 PM aandrew: the hole is like 15/16", they say 7/8 but I had to file it a bit
10:06 PM aandrew: yes $12 is ridiculous but I needed something NOW
10:06 PM aandrew: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002623067092.html
10:06 PM rue_mohr: yup
10:07 PM aandrew: those aren't breakouts but it's teh same idea
10:07 PM aandrew: oh and you can't use the locking screws with these unless you want a non-circular hole in your panel
10:08 PM aandrew: discovered that too which sucks for me but I'm hoping it won't be a problem, otherwise I'll just have to notch the hole a bit
10:08 PM rue_mohr: damn these skeletonics arms are crazy mechanics
10:08 PM aandrew: what I do need is a quick and dirty HTML log mechanism
10:09 PM aandrew: I've been watching that thread of yours
10:09 PM rue_mohr: I put the universals in the wrong place
10:09 PM rue_mohr: they have to be on the same plane as the other joints
10:09 PM rue_mohr: I'v got an idea but I'm trying to mentally model the forces and there IS SO MUCH GOING ON ITS CRAZY
10:10 PM aandrew: there, take the first ali link and add this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32846168259.html
10:10 PM aandrew: $3 for both
10:10 PM rue_mohr: the bit of the arms I'v constructed so far is crazy
10:10 PM rue_mohr: you can fold it up in all these crazy angles and it still actuates just fine
10:11 PM aandrew: unreal
10:11 PM aandrew: I have trouble imagining it even after looking at your pics
10:11 PM rue_mohr: reverse engineering it from images took me about 2 weeks to start to understand
10:13 PM aandrew: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32842331881.html is another one that uses a gender bender instead, can't just seem to find the plates though and these aren't as nice
