12:11 AM rue_mohr: I think 200 would do it
12:21 AM Tom_L: yeah
12:21 AM Tom_L: they use inductive thingies at my kids work to put the tools in the holders
12:21 AM rue_mohr: the plan is to let the eddy currents do the work
12:21 AM Tom_L: no mechanical fastening like collets
12:21 AM rue_mohr: :)
12:21 AM Tom_L: they get pretty hot
12:21 AM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/Shrink-Fit-Machine-Frequency-Induction/dp/B084ZFHNY2
12:21 AM rue_mohr: yea
12:21 AM Tom_L: high frequency i guess
12:21 AM rue_mohr: I tried a high freq one and burned it out
12:21 AM Tom_L: heh
12:21 AM rue_mohr: like, instantly
12:21 AM rue_mohr: I was sad
12:21 AM Tom_L: https://hackaday.com/2020/10/26/simple-induction-heater-helps-with-homebrew-shrink-fitting/
12:23 AM rue_mohr: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004195371438.html
12:23 AM rue_mohr: I wonder if I can find a lot of cards on like ebay or soemthing cheaper
12:23 AM rue_mohr: size doesn't matter just cheapness
12:23 AM Tom_L: for?
12:23 AM Tom_L: your chip reader thing?
12:23 AM rue_mohr: sound players
12:24 AM Tom_L: oh
12:25 AM Tom_L: how fat did we say the reindeer should be?
12:25 AM Tom_L: iirc you indicated 5mm ish?
12:26 AM rue_mohr: 1/4" or so
12:26 AM rue_mohr: much more and I'm not sure the shrinkage wouldn't factor in
12:26 AM rue_mohr: even then, i wonder
12:26 AM Tom_L: so about .125 a side on the mold
12:27 AM rue_mohr: dear god, even used tiny sd cards go on ebay for a fortune!
12:29 AM rue_mohr: at this rate I could make money moving them from ali to ebay
12:29 AM Tom_L: ok so if the body is .125 a side how thick should the antlers be?
12:29 AM Tom_L: 2/3 that?
12:30 AM Tom_L: that's still pretty thin
12:30 AM rue_mohr: yes, I'd say thinner, but they need some structure
12:30 AM rue_mohr: to release ok from the mold
12:30 AM rue_mohr: oh, less than $20 for 10x 256M
12:31 AM rue_mohr: ok, cool that should set me up for sound players for robots for a loooong time
12:31 AM rue_mohr: in the meantime, I have a memory stick bag around here somehwere
12:38 AM rue_mohr: WormFood, can I use phone sim cards for data storage?
12:41 AM rue_mohr: maybe not worth it, looks like they might just have a bit of eeprom
12:43 AM rue_mohr: ugh, only like 64k
12:45 AM rue_mohr: hmm, tho if a sim card could be reflashed it might make a cool little serial cpu
01:20 AM Tom_L: bottom half went better than i expected
01:20 AM rue_shop3: :).... do I get to see?
01:20 AM Tom_L: when you mirror, you gotta change the cutter direction on some things
01:20 AM Tom_L: so it will climb cut
01:20 AM rue_shop3: ooo tricky
01:21 AM Tom_L: had to change some entry points on a few
01:21 AM Tom_L: getting close though
01:22 AM rue_shop3: its something rather new too
01:22 AM Tom_L: gonna take quite a while to machine
01:25 AM rue_shop3: ok I cut the part of the handle off that was holding up winding the coils
01:25 AM rue_shop3: so I need a high(ish) temp insulating layer
01:26 AM rue_shop3: and I'll have to find some wire to wind on it
01:28 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/reindeer/reindeer9.jpg
01:31 AM Tom_L: need to figure out how deep to cut the eye
01:33 AM Tom_L: body is .125 per side and antlers are .083"
01:40 AM rue_shop3: even a really small dimple will show quite well
01:40 AM rue_shop3: I'd estimate 0.5mm is overkill
01:43 AM Tom_L: 5.9 hr each side
01:49 AM rue_mohr: oof
05:58 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
06:15 AM Tom_L: .
06:17 AM rue_mohr: your late
06:17 AM rue_mohr: I'm still up
06:17 AM rue_mohr: if I'm late i't''lll be because I'm dead..
06:18 AM rue_mohr: from not sleeping
06:18 AM rue_mohr: 2 3d printers running to make a few modded parts for the gearbox
06:18 AM rue_mohr: gonna be a spiffy gearbox
06:18 AM rue_mohr: I have enough partts too make w
06:18 AM rue_mohr: 2
06:18 AM rue_mohr: excuse me, I'm coding
08:51 AM WormFood: rue_mohr, as far as I know, the phone card storage space is extremely small...however, it might be useful for storing something like an encryption key (but using the security through obscurity method)
08:52 AM WormFood: IIRC, the satellite smart cards I was hacking back in the day, have a few K of EEPROM (the exact amount depends on the specific card, but IIRC at least 4K)
11:01 AM Tom_L: rue's got his daze n nites mixed again
11:14 AM WormFood: well, I'm sure he's on a normal schedule for *somewhere*
12:24 PM rue_mohr: well, the other thought I had, was that if they dont have storage space, they might be cool at little microcontrollers
12:24 PM rue_mohr: but, they are probably OTP on the main program ?
12:59 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, any additions, subtractions, revisions to the model?
12:59 PM Tom_L: only wanna cut once
01:22 PM rue_mohr: nothing I can think of
01:22 PM rue_mohr: were set for side injection and we will handle the kickers later?
01:22 PM Tom_L: floor is -.125, eye is -.065
01:22 PM rue_mohr: ok
01:23 PM Tom_L: you wanna drill the holes?
01:23 PM Tom_L: you don't think it will just pry apart?
01:23 PM rue_mohr: it might be better if you do them on the cnc, I have a drill press and it might wander
01:23 PM Tom_L: i was gonna put notches in the edge for a screwdriver or put threaded bolts like i did that wheel to separate them
01:24 PM rue_mohr: I think that would be a good idea too
01:24 PM Tom_L: notches and threaded separator?
01:25 PM rue_mohr: threaded seperator?
01:25 PM Tom_L: like i did on that wheel mold
01:26 PM rue_mohr: hmm
01:26 PM Tom_L: screw them in to push on the bottom half to separate it
01:26 PM rue_mohr: sure
01:26 PM rue_mohr: do you think I should oil the mold before I pusht he plastic in?
01:26 PM Tom_L: i've no idea
01:26 PM Tom_L: isn't the plastic kinds slick anyway?
01:26 PM Tom_L: might just contaminate it
01:27 PM rue_mohr: well... not really...
02:51 PM WormFood: This is kinda interesting. So, I'm erasing another EPROM...I'm down to about 200 bits left to erase. While I'm moving things around, my UV LEDs get knocked away from the EPROM, and now it shows about 280 bits left. I move the LEDs back, and literally seconds later, it's back down to 200 bits left to erase. I'm very curious to know what's really going on inside this IC.
03:51 PM rue_shop3: Tom_L, , the nozzel on the injector is about a 45 degree cone with a 5mm hole in the end
03:57 PM Tom_L: pic?
04:01 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1230648.jpg
04:01 PM Tom_L: so you want a cone for that to fit in?
04:02 PM rue_mohr: we could
04:02 PM rue_mohr: definitly the port to the cavity need not be that big
04:02 PM Tom_L: not much material thickness for a cone
04:02 PM rue_mohr: the interface region can be tiny
04:03 PM Tom_L: needs to be at least a little bigger than the tip of that cone
04:03 PM rue_mohr: yes
04:03 PM Tom_L: with a 45deg taper
04:03 PM rue_mohr: it can have a tiny 45 degree seat
04:03 PM Tom_L: what's the diameter at the tip?
04:03 PM Tom_L: so that will make the injection hole bigger
04:03 PM rue_mohr: its coned right down, and the hole is 5mm
04:04 PM Tom_L: no flat on the end?
04:04 PM rue_mohr: not by engineering
04:06 PM Tom_L: i've got .1875" thickness on the wall
04:07 PM Tom_L: the top of the cone can be just over 5mm?
04:07 PM rue_mohr: yup
04:07 PM Tom_L: you think it will seal?
04:08 PM rue_mohr: more than the cavity will
04:08 PM rue_mohr: "highly experimental"
04:09 PM Tom_L: you sure that's a 45 deg?
04:09 PM Tom_L: 90 inclusive?
04:10 PM rue_mohr: I dont have a way to check
04:10 PM rue_mohr: but if the cones match anywhere its ok
04:10 PM Tom_L: put it up against a corner of something
04:10 PM Tom_L: and look
04:11 PM Tom_L: it's less than 90...
04:13 PM Tom_L: it is close though
04:13 PM Tom_L: i just checked it :)
04:14 PM Tom_L: maybe 80deg..
04:20 PM rue_mohr: :) ok
04:20 PM rue_mohr: sorry, visitors
06:19 PM rue_shop3: they were gone when I said that...
07:50 PM Tom_L: friggin tool i added was set for lathe mode
07:50 PM Tom_L: ipr instead of ipm
07:54 PM Tom_L: maybe thats why it was saying a lifetime to machine it
07:54 PM Tom_L: seemed a bit odd
07:55 PM Tom_L: it was previously set for .0009 ipm
07:56 PM rue_shop3: oh no
07:56 PM rue_shop3: glad it didn't just snap it off
07:57 PM Tom_L: super super slow
07:57 PM Tom_L: now the machine time is about 45 min
07:57 PM Tom_L: that's why we test
08:04 PM rue_mohr: I'm falling asleep
08:04 PM rue_mohr: I want to try writing that bit file
08:05 PM Tom_shop: i may cut one or these
08:05 PM Tom_shop: dry run atm
08:05 PM rue_mohr: I have to locate some wire this week and wrap that pipe
08:06 PM rue_mohr: I also have to find some heat resistant stuff to space off with
08:06 PM Tom_shop: what sort of insul does that require?
08:06 PM Tom_shop: i got some braided stuff from a motor rewind shop for my toaster oven
08:06 PM Tom_shop: like for toasters etc
08:07 PM Tom_shop: runnig line 18000+
08:08 PM Tom_shop: they go by too fast to catch a line number
08:08 PM Tom_shop: 20k
08:10 PM Tom_shop: done
08:22 PM rue_shop3: the wrie itself is cold
08:22 PM rue_shop3: the eddys heat the pipe direct
08:23 PM Tom_shop: oh
08:23 PM rue_shop3: thats that formula I did
08:23 PM rue_shop3: with 1A and 200 turns, I get 200W
08:23 PM rue_shop3: and I think 200w is enough for that pipe
08:23 PM rue_shop3: then again, the soldering iron is only 140
08:23 PM rue_shop3: hmm
08:24 PM Tom_shop: there's a deer butt appearing in some aluminum
08:27 PM rue_mohr: :)
08:27 PM rue_mohr: that could send your youtube bigtime for all the wrong reasons
08:46 PM Tom_shop: done
08:49 PM Tom_shop: need to edit about 4 spots that didn't quite clean up
08:53 PM rue_mohr: wood/foam test?
08:57 PM Tom_L: oh hell no
08:57 PM Tom_L: i got a part
08:57 PM rue_mohr: !
09:22 PM Tom_L: gonna fix a couple spots then you can see
09:23 PM Tom_L: i could do more to it but..
09:28 PM Tom_L: i think this one actually takes almost as long to post as it does to run
09:28 PM Tom_L: not quite but it seems like it
09:36 PM rue_shop3: huh
09:39 PM Tom_shop: rerunning 1 cut
09:42 PM rue_shop2: Cannot find device having IDCODE=20b10dd Revision A
09:42 PM rue_shop2: JTAG loc.: 0 IDCODE: 0x020b10dd not found in 'built-in device list'.
09:44 PM rue_shop2: jtag newtap ep2c20 tap -expected-id 0x20B30DD -irlen 10
09:45 PM rue_shop2: so where is my usb blaster
09:51 PM Tom_L: ok..
09:57 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/reindeer/reindeer10.jpg
09:57 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/reindeer/reindeer11.jpg
10:04 PM Tom_L: the problem is you have a fat body and skinny legs, it's hard to know what tool to use and still be somewhat efficient
10:04 PM Tom_L: i _could_ ballnose the whole thing but it would take alot longer
10:05 PM Tom_L: and the stepover would be tiny because of the ball cusp height
10:06 PM Tom_L: the antlers were done with a .0625" bn and the perimeter a .125" bn
10:06 PM Tom_L: i left it in the mill for a bit
10:45 PM rue_shop3: ............
10:59 PM Tom_L: ?
11:30 PM rue_mohr: just makeing a mess
11:30 PM rue_mohr: dont mine me
11:30 PM rue_mohr: mind
