12:15 AM rue_mohr: 2356
01:29 AM rue_shop3: yay my code worked, I successfully i2c'd on a tiny26
05:23 AM Tom_L: morning
05:24 AM Tom_L: u 2c'd? yay :)
10:44 AM Tom_L: .
12:43 PM Tom_L: so the big question is 8 x 10 x 3 or 9.5 x 6.5 x 3.5
12:56 PM rue_mohr: either is ok :)
12:56 PM rue_mohr: 8x10x3 if you need a dice roll
01:13 PM Tom_L: so go big or go home :)
01:15 PM Tom_L: gonna go try and run the rest of the parts today
01:15 PM Tom_L: warming it up right now
01:15 PM rue_mohr: I'll be distracted for a while, one of my good buddies has been convicted of some messy things in a way that doesn't add up and he's gone to jail for a year sentence, but what he was charged with does not add up AT ALL
01:19 PM Tom_L: huh
01:19 PM Tom_L: sorry to hear about the mess
01:20 PM rue_mohr: its quite distracting
01:21 PM rue_mohr: almost starting to think someone is trying to destroy his life
01:21 PM Tom_L: female?
01:21 PM Tom_L: some like to do that...
01:21 PM rue_mohr: not enough light yet
01:21 PM Tom_L: k
01:22 PM Tom_L: none of my business anyway
01:22 PM rue_mohr: his wife passed away under odd circumstances quite a while ago, it destroyed him
01:22 PM rue_mohr: he's an introvert, like me, the odds of him connecting with someone were little to none to start with
01:24 PM Tom_L: they're thinking foul play?
01:24 PM rue_mohr: long time ago
01:24 PM Tom_L: huh
01:24 PM rue_mohr: if it was, the medical facilities here have no compitnce to know
01:25 PM rue_mohr: but this isn't related
01:25 PM rue_mohr: unless its someone attacking him
01:25 PM rue_mohr: the charges are around the same time his wife passed
01:28 PM rue_mohr: I need to go get 2 bails of alfalfa and a tarp
01:28 PM Tom_L: potatoes?
01:28 PM rue_mohr: yea
01:29 PM Tom_L: if you cut them, shake them in a bag of sulphur to skin the cut
01:29 PM rue_mohr: and sulphor
01:29 PM Tom_L: helps keep them from rotting
01:29 PM Tom_L: i've cut them as many as 6 or so cubes
01:30 PM rue_mohr: ugh, days half over, I better get going
01:30 PM Tom_L: yup
01:30 PM rue_mohr: to use my truck I have to do the recycling
01:30 PM rue_mohr: cause its kinda full
01:30 PM Tom_L: eating while it warms up then i'll try to cut those
01:31 PM rue_mohr: at $2/L I bet not many people are recycling
01:31 PM Tom_L: nearly $4 here
01:31 PM rue_mohr: /gal, so cheaper
01:31 PM Tom_L: we're in a cheap part of the country
01:32 PM Tom_L: west is over 5
01:32 PM rue_mohr: I'm hearing about it on twitter
01:32 PM rue_mohr: comments about all the americans driving the big gas guzzling trucks
01:32 PM Tom_L: all the US companies are pulling out
01:32 PM rue_mohr: ?
01:32 PM rue_mohr: puling out of?
01:33 PM Tom_L: of Russia
01:33 PM rue_mohr: well yea
01:33 PM Tom_L: McDonalds etc
01:33 PM Tom_L: he's gonna re open them
01:33 PM rue_mohr: I doubt they close
01:33 PM Tom_L: they are
01:33 PM rue_mohr: just not part of the chain for a while
01:33 PM Tom_L: ppl are buying them up like crazy
01:33 PM rue_mohr: they probably go back to work and run it independently
01:34 PM Tom_L: not under that name...
01:34 PM rue_mohr: haha, in russia you think they will bother changing the name?
01:34 PM Tom_L: no but he's just asking for more trouble
01:35 PM rue_mohr: he's going down a mudslope already
01:35 PM Tom_L: ok lunch minute is over
01:35 PM Tom_L: the clock is still ticking
01:35 PM rue_mohr: even if he wanted to he cant stop the damage he's done to his country
01:36 PM Tom_L: somebody should take him out
01:36 PM rue_mohr: its sat tom
01:36 PM rue_mohr: YES
01:36 PM rue_mohr: one of his own might
01:36 PM Tom_L: in a painful sort of way
01:36 PM rue_mohr: if it was france it would have already happened
01:36 PM rue_mohr: in russia they use poison
01:36 PM Tom_L: we do it, it will start WW3
01:36 PM rue_mohr: then guns
01:37 PM rue_mohr: aparently we have a number of canadians going over to help
01:37 PM Tom_L: somebody don't, he will just keep going
01:37 PM rue_mohr: apparently our best sniper is among them
01:37 PM Tom_L: same here
01:37 PM Tom_L: retired ppl volunteering
01:37 PM rue_mohr: power to them
01:37 PM Tom_L: same here.. best snipers etc
01:38 PM Tom_L: i watched a show about one of them
01:38 PM Tom_L: anyway...
01:40 PM rue_mohr: the offset dowels:
01:40 PM rue_mohr: I've measured these things until I am seeing micrometers when I close my eyes. My micrometer is graduated in thousands so I have to estimate the tenths. This is what I found:
01:40 PM rue_mohr: Block side diameter target .619", Measured .6175, nice and round.
01:40 PM rue_mohr: Housing side diameter target .623", Measured .6225" nice and round as well.
01:40 PM rue_mohr: Offset line long side difference target .010", Measured .006" feeler go .007" feeler no go
01:40 PM rue_mohr: Offset line short side difference target .006", Measured .00015 feeler no go, estimate .001".
01:40 PM rue_mohr: I tried the bushing in the bores for size. The housing side was a bit loose but probably acceptable. The block side was looser than I would like to see.
01:40 PM rue_mohr: Now the fact that the offset is less than expected is interesting. Glen's bushings had the same problem. So did Hugh. His last set he made by trying a .010" offset instead of .008". I'm not sure if he used the 3 jaw with shims or a 4 jaw. His bushings weren't as well finished and consistent as yours and Glens. One ended up with a slightly over .008" offset (.~010" long side), and the other was close to .012 (.~014" long side).
01:40 PM rue_mohr: I'm not sure if that tells us anything or not. I'm going to see Glen tomorrow and he's going to make me another set while I wait. We'll check my micrometer against his and see if we can't figure this thing out. It's turning out to be quite challenge for everyone.
01:40 PM rue_mohr: iinteretsting.
01:46 PM Tom_L: somebody sent you that?
01:46 PM rue_mohr: do I renew my truck insurance?
01:46 PM Tom_L: do you still drive it?
01:46 PM rue_mohr: thats the fellows reply
01:46 PM Tom_L: i just did mine
01:46 PM rue_mohr: at $2/L should I?
01:47 PM Tom_L: drive the company truck
01:47 PM Tom_L: :)
01:47 PM Tom_L: uber might be cheaper :)
01:52 PM rue_mohr: I drove like 36km in my personal truck for work while my van was broken down and they paid me like $26
01:52 PM rue_mohr: I didn't know it was that high/km
01:54 PM rue_mohr: something else doesn't add up, the story in the paper was published before it happened
01:54 PM rue_mohr: wtf...
03:30 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A12_New/Mods/A12_new_batch1.jpg
03:30 PM Tom_L: that should get you by a while
03:31 PM Tom_L: next to 4cut up some copper and grab a couple U2
03:49 PM rue_mohr: wow nice
03:50 PM rue_mohr: I go the sulfor, bail of alfalfa, truck insurance (only $700) and did the recycling
04:11 PM Tom_L: copper cut
04:11 PM Tom_L: couldn't even tell i lost any :)
04:11 PM Tom_L: 12 sheets
04:12 PM Tom_L: random cuts to fit the box
04:12 PM Tom_L: 8 x 10ish
04:14 PM Tom_L: wonder if those U2 would be ok loose in one of those mylar bags
04:14 PM Tom_L: taped to the bottom of some copper
04:18 PM rue_shop3: nice
04:18 PM rue_shop3: tell me what the total is for shipping and everything when you know
04:23 PM Tom_L: you know anybody else that would use a programmer?
04:23 PM Tom_L: i found a whole box full of em
04:50 PM Tom_L: acording to my scale it is 5.8 lbs
04:50 PM Tom_L: is that too much?
04:55 PM Tom_L: envelope is 4 lb max but this is a box
04:56 PM Tom_L: 5lb may be a break point... dunno
04:58 PM Tom_L: i'll take it monday and have them tell me first
04:59 PM Tom_L: depends how bad you want the copper
05:00 PM Tom_L: figure if you paid for it might balance the shipping cost.. dunno
05:00 PM Tom_L: i can take some out if you want
05:08 PM rue_shop3: hah what about the guy who wanted one?
05:09 PM Tom_L: i'm not gonna start shipping again, it's getting too expensive
05:09 PM rue_shop3: the shipping weight and rates for things are totally the carriers call, I have no idea, see whaty they say shipping is
05:09 PM Tom_L: i bet yours will be around 40 bux
05:09 PM rue_shop3: ok
05:09 PM Tom_L: i'm guessing usps is the cheapest
05:09 PM Tom_L: want me to price ups?
05:10 PM rue_shop3: I'm rebuilding a bushing for a belt sander while I try to work out whats going on with my buuddy
05:10 PM rue_shop3: no ups
05:10 PM rue_shop3: just ground mail
05:10 PM Tom_L: yeah
05:10 PM rue_shop3: any courier is +$50 at the border for "we saw a package"
05:10 PM Tom_L: what should i tell em it is?
05:11 PM rue_shop3: hobby robot prototyping supplies
05:12 PM rue_shop3: how much do I underdrill for a ream?
05:12 PM Tom_L: .005
05:12 PM Tom_L: or there abouts
05:12 PM Tom_L: no more than .010
05:12 PM Tom_L: now ask me how much over i've gone :)
05:13 PM rue_shop3: ok
05:13 PM rue_shop3: hah
05:13 PM rue_shop3: how far over have you tried?
05:13 PM Tom_L: probably .020 or maybe a bit more
05:13 PM Tom_L: in a pinch
05:13 PM Tom_L: when i didn't have the right drill
05:13 PM Tom_L: and was too lazy to bore it out
05:14 PM Tom_L: you gotta clean it out more often than sending it right thru the first pass
05:15 PM rue_shop3: oh god, I'm so distracted I just used #7 instead of 7mm
05:16 PM Tom_L: you can still drill it with 7mm
05:16 PM Tom_L: .201 vs .2756
05:36 PM Tom_L: ok ready to ship except sealing it shut
05:36 PM Tom_L: is $50 too much shipping? if they say it's that or under i may ship it while i'm there
06:01 PM rue_shop3: oops, didn't give the new boshing enough grease and its locking up
06:01 PM rue_shop3: I'll redo it later
06:02 PM rue_shop3: thats a lot of stuff, 50 could work
06:03 PM Tom_L: i'll see monday and if it's that or under i'll let it fly
06:07 PM Tom_L: what you workin on?
06:08 PM rue_mohr: burt breakfast
06:08 PM rue_mohr: fucked up belt sander repair
06:08 PM Tom_L: woops
06:11 PM rue_mohr: the motor shaft galled into the new bushing, I dont even want to look
06:15 PM Tom_L: you can clean it up
06:16 PM Tom_L: cut it off if you need to then use emery paper
06:16 PM Tom_L: back it with a file so it is flat
06:17 PM Tom_L: what did you make it out of?
06:18 PM rue_mohr: brass
06:18 PM Tom_L: bronze
06:18 PM rue_mohr: I didn't have any cintered I could use
06:18 PM Tom_L: would be better if you had some
06:18 PM Tom_L: that stuff is hard to machine
06:18 PM Tom_L: cintered
06:18 PM rue_mohr: yea, I didn't give it an oil ring and I forgot to slather it
06:18 PM rue_mohr: I'm really distracted
06:18 PM Tom_L: sounds that way
06:19 PM rue_mohr: like, trying to use the head key in the tailstock
06:20 PM Tom_L: better steer clear of sharp objects
06:44 PM rue_mohr: have I never written code for a 24c eeprom before?
07:01 PM Tom_L: good question
07:01 PM Tom_L: have you?
07:06 PM rue_mohr: I thought I did
07:07 PM rue_mohr: I cant find anything
08:33 PM Tom_L: so now what?
08:36 PM rue_mohr: I found a thing where I read a rom
08:36 PM rue_mohr: it started to rain but I got a bit of work on the potato thing
08:36 PM rue_mohr: its dark, I'll code
08:36 PM rue_mohr: I got a new tarp for the tent infront of the shop
08:37 PM rue_mohr: the last one I got is a bit small
08:37 PM Tom_L: you get alfalfa?
08:37 PM rue_mohr: I need to take a chainsaw to a maple tree a bit
08:37 PM Tom_L: potatoes like that
08:37 PM rue_mohr: I got the bail, I'm going to leave it in my truck till its used cause otherwise they rot
08:37 PM rue_mohr: and I got the sulfor
08:38 PM rue_mohr: the warning labels on it are spooky
08:38 PM Tom_L: i used to do mounds and put the hay on top
08:38 PM rue_mohr: is that just sulfor, or did they mix it with something?!
08:38 PM rue_mohr: k
08:38 PM Tom_L: no just yellow sulphur
08:38 PM Tom_L: i may still have the bag if you want a pic
08:38 PM rue_mohr: the warning labels are like "DONT TOUCH IT! WASH ANY SKIN CONTACT LIKE CRAZY!"
08:39 PM Tom_L: put it in a ziplock bag with the taters and shake it up then stuff em in the gound
08:39 PM rue_mohr: I'm not sure if its just over crazy warning labels or if its more than just sulphor
08:39 PM rue_mohr: used to come in a paper bag
08:39 PM rue_mohr: this is a shaker
08:39 PM Tom_L: i kept the bag for the following year and after
08:39 PM rue_mohr: I still dont get the warning labels
08:39 PM Tom_L: huh
08:40 PM rue_mohr: whats whimis on sulfor?
08:40 PM Tom_L: what?
08:40 PM rue_mohr: whimis
08:40 PM Tom_L: what's that?
08:41 PM Tom_L: oh
08:41 PM Tom_L: i dunno
08:41 PM rue_mohr: Why Have Is Missing I Safety
08:41 PM Tom_L: i played with it as a kid :)
08:41 PM rue_mohr: yea
08:41 PM Tom_L: and mercury
08:41 PM rue_mohr: mercury too I'll bet
08:41 PM rue_mohr: hahaha
08:41 PM Tom_L: heh
08:41 PM rue_mohr: *sigh*
08:41 PM rue_mohr: and you aren't dieing of cancer
08:42 PM Tom_L: i'll see if i still have the bag
08:42 PM rue_mohr: let me show you these warning labels
08:42 PM rue_mohr: its like WTF
08:42 PM Tom_L: distraction...
08:45 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1230157.jpg
08:54 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/garden/sulphur3.jpg
08:55 PM Tom_L: old bag :)
08:55 PM rue_mohr: yea
08:55 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/garden/sulphur2.jpg
08:55 PM rue_mohr: but look at the warnings on this stupid shaker
08:55 PM Tom_L: meh
08:55 PM rue_mohr: did they add peticide to it tho?
08:55 PM Tom_L: not ine
08:55 PM Tom_L: mine
08:55 PM rue_mohr: yea, but I'm not sure about what I got
08:56 PM rue_mohr: I want to know if its just sulfur
08:56 PM Tom_L: iirc you can use it on roses too?
08:56 PM rue_mohr: I want to know if its just sulfur
08:56 PM Tom_L: does it look the same?
08:56 PM rue_mohr: or did they add pesticide to it
08:56 PM rue_mohr: would pestacide make it look different?
08:56 PM rue_mohr: prolly not...
08:58 PM Tom_L: well don't use it if you think it's not good
08:58 PM rue_mohr: I didn't think I read the labels there, and I openeed it
08:58 PM Tom_L: i got that before they cared about warnings
08:58 PM rue_mohr: I was going to use a bit on some plants in the kitchen and then was like, "wait, wtf"
08:58 PM rue_mohr: yea
08:59 PM rue_mohr: I dont know if they added crap to this
08:59 PM Tom_L: where did you get it?
08:59 PM Tom_L: garden place?
08:59 PM rue_mohr: yea
08:59 PM Tom_L: i would think it should be ok
08:59 PM rue_mohr: they had it in the pestacide vault
09:00 PM rue_mohr: about 2000 I got some in a paper bag, and i ahve no idea where it went
09:00 PM Tom_L: i'll save this for ya
09:00 PM Tom_L: :)
09:00 PM Tom_L: that's the same ziploc bag i've used for years too
09:00 PM Tom_L: dunno what happened to the paper bag
09:01 PM Tom_L: but i haven't used it in quite a while
09:02 PM Tom_L: so i'm not crazy:
09:02 PM Tom_L: How to Use Sulfur on Fresh-Cut Potato Tubers
09:02 PM Tom_L: Bring your potato pieces and other supplies outside to avoid potential problems with sulfur dust indoors.
09:02 PM Tom_L: Place about a pound of cut potato pieces in a sturdy paper bag.
09:02 PM Tom_L: Add 2 tablespoons of elemental sulfur to the bag.
09:02 PM Tom_L: Shake the bag until all the pieces are coated.
09:02 PM Tom_L: https://homeguides.sfgate.com/use-sulfur-freshcut-potato-tubers-72105.html
09:03 PM rue_mohr: sure
09:03 PM rue_mohr: I'm just disturbed that I dont know if this is just sulur
09:04 PM Tom_L: i bet it is
09:04 PM Tom_L: just hazardous is why they had it kept put up
09:04 PM Tom_L: you could always rinse it off
09:05 PM Tom_L: let it dry then use it
09:05 PM rue_mohr: I'll ask if there is something else
09:06 PM Tom_L: have you ever had them rot on you?
09:06 PM rue_mohr: yup
09:06 PM Tom_L: i had a couple one year but not usually
09:06 PM Tom_L: probably didn't get them coated good enough
09:07 PM Tom_L: i can never remember... spring forward - fall back
09:10 PM rue_mohr: all my things do it automatically
09:22 PM Tom_L: wall clocks stove microwave etc
09:28 PM rue_shop3: one
09:29 PM rue_shop3: everything else is computer
09:29 PM rue_shop3: I never set the stove or the mircorwave
10:16 PM rue_mohr: while the data word is being programmed into
10:16 PM rue_mohr: the nonvolatile EEPROM. All inputs are disabled during this write cycle, and the EEPROM will not
10:16 PM rue_mohr: respond until the write is complete.
10:16 PM rue_mohr: so, how do you know its done
10:17 PM Tom_L: da blinkin led starts blinkineth
10:18 PM Tom_L: the eeprom starts responding again?
10:19 PM Tom_L: no timing charts on the data sheet?
10:19 PM Tom_L: no data sheet?
10:20 PM rue_mohr: up to 5ms
10:20 PM rue_mohr: "forever"
10:20 PM Tom_L: so wait 5 and phone home
10:20 PM rue_mohr: A page write operation allows up to 16 bytes to be written in the same write cycle, provided all bytes are
10:20 PM rue_mohr: in the same row of the memory array (where address bits A10 to A4 are the same)
10:21 PM rue_mohr: as it happens, I want to write 4 byte records
10:21 PM rue_mohr: all aligned
10:30 PM rue_mohr: ok
10:30 PM rue_mohr: I try to start the next byte and if I dont get a reply, I keep trying
10:31 PM Tom_L: what indicates a reply?
10:34 PM rue_mohr: i2c
10:34 PM rue_mohr: if it recieves the start it'll send an ack
10:35 PM Tom_L: ahh i forgot it was i2c
10:36 PM rue_mohr: so, now I want to add some serial commands
10:36 PM rue_mohr: I created a serial library for the t26
10:36 PM rue_mohr: oh wait, can I recieve AND send..?...
10:37 PM rue_mohr: oh its transmitt only
10:38 PM Tom_L: hardware or software uart?
10:39 PM rue_mohr: t26
10:39 PM rue_mohr: software only
10:39 PM Tom_L: k
10:39 PM rue_mohr: I have rx and tx libraries for software, I just didn't port the rx to t26
10:39 PM Tom_L: i had some for the DS1307
10:39 PM Tom_L: clock
10:40 PM rue_mohr: mhm
10:40 PM Tom_L: hardware
10:40 PM rue_mohr: looks like I'm using 9600
10:40 PM rue_mohr: timer1
10:41 PM rue_mohr: my t13 serial code can use a timer, or the ADC
10:42 PM rue_mohr: :)
10:43 PM rue_mohr: 9600 baud using the adc as a timer
10:43 PM rue_mohr: SAR ADCs always have the same cycle count for their conversions
10:48 PM Tom_L: huh
11:08 PM rue_mohr: if I make a processor sub-card it only needs 10 pins
11:08 PM rue_mohr: then I can module in whatever processor I can find
11:10 PM rue_mohr: which means I'm fair to throw an m8 at this and work it out later
11:10 PM rue_mohr: then I dont have to deal with serial junk
11:11 PM rue_mohr: damnit, my buddy is going to prison for a year and I'm sure he didn't do anything that warrents it
11:11 PM rue_mohr: he's a quiet computer nerd
11:11 PM Tom_L: :/
11:12 PM rue_mohr: introvert like me
11:12 PM Tom_L: that sucks
11:12 PM rue_mohr: maker
11:12 PM Tom_L: M8 was kindof an odd one
11:12 PM rue_mohr: the paper did a f***ing huge slanderous article about it
11:12 PM Tom_L: close to the 88 etc but something odd about it
11:13 PM rue_mohr: the 88 was better for sure
11:13 PM rue_mohr: I just need some basic functions
11:13 PM rue_mohr: if the tiny13 had more io it'd work
11:13 PM Tom_L: news likes to blow things up
11:13 PM Tom_L: i never read it
11:13 PM Tom_L: or watch
11:13 PM rue_mohr: I'm sure they went way over what they were legally allowed to say
