12:17 AM rue_bed: got 12 of them, that has me a total of about 14
12:26 AM rue_bed: even if I dont use the wifi, they may be descent controllers, like $1.50ea
12:26 AM rue_bed: 40Mhz
12:26 AM rue_bed: mips is probably pretty low
04:47 AM Tom_L: morning
08:46 AM rue_bed: rrr
08:46 AM rue_bed: cats had me up a lot last night
02:32 PM Tom_L: you should have a long talk with cat
05:39 PM rue_shop3: we do
05:39 PM rue_shop3: meow meow meow
05:40 PM rue_shop3: cats aren't much for long conversations but the boy I got can go on quite a while
05:43 PM Tom_L: at the wrong times of day?
05:43 PM rue_shop3: its usually ok
06:56 PM polprog: rue_shop3: which protocol is that reader?
07:00 PM polprog: Card looks 125kHz
07:02 PM rue_shop3: wiegand
07:02 PM rue_shop3: works with any wiegand
07:02 PM rue_shop3: One of the care centers up here wants a thing, so I'm working on it
07:03 PM rue_shop3: next I need to make one more complex for an appartment building
07:56 PM polprog: Retro access contol :v
07:59 PM polprog: I did something like that once
08:00 PM polprog: We used osdp though, easier to use on an orangepi with rs485 interface
09:14 PM rue_mohr: retro?
09:17 PM rue_mohr: ok I did 9 more 12" tubes and a 6" tube
09:33 PM Tom_L: i did nothing
09:35 PM rue_mohr: meh
09:35 PM Tom_L: trying to get over this crap
09:35 PM rue_mohr: the fellow picked up that thing today
09:35 PM rue_mohr: waiting to hear how it measures out
09:35 PM Tom_L: did it work?
09:35 PM Tom_L: oh
09:35 PM rue_mohr: and at some point I need to adjust my lathe
09:35 PM rue_mohr: the headstock bearings need to be tightened up
09:35 PM Tom_L: i think mine is beyond adjustment
09:35 PM rue_mohr: and I need to play with the bed twist
09:36 PM rue_mohr: I think the old ones are generally better than the chineese ones
09:36 PM rue_mohr: mines chineese
09:36 PM Tom_L: mine is tired
09:37 PM rue_mohr: myford?
09:37 PM rue_mohr: damnit, the phone system is losing 7 caps
09:38 PM rue_mohr: I'm sorry I looked now
09:38 PM Tom_L: the e is missing on my new keyboard already
09:38 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> Model Family: Western Digital Caviar SE family
09:38 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> Device Model: WDC WD800JB-00JJC0
09:38 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> ^^^ Rue, replace THAT drive, not the other one
09:40 PM Tom_L: i'll finish those up soon though
09:46 PM rue_mohr: yay I got the drive in and it works
09:55 PM rue_mohr: oh, I gave the array the new drive and it just put it in the closet as a spare... no
09:58 PM rue_mohr: md1 : active raid1 sda1[2](S) hda1[0] hdb1[1]
09:58 PM rue_mohr: 35163072 blocks [2/2] [UU]
10:01 PM rue_mohr: aha, grow, cool
10:02 PM rue_mohr: I can chunk that drive in later
10:02 PM Tom_L: working?
10:03 PM rue_mohr: yea I got the first drive in
10:03 PM rue_mohr: I'm having it build a 3rd drive in, so the array for that system will be 3 mirrored drives
10:04 PM rue_mohr: its silly, but that machine goes thru a LOT of hardware
10:05 PM rue_mohr: and my circuit worked, and I made 10 paint tubes
10:05 PM rue_mohr: I can die without guilt today
10:05 PM Tom_L: why is it so hard on equipment?
10:06 PM rue_mohr: Its not hard on it, its just cursed
10:06 PM rue_mohr: some computers are
10:06 PM rue_mohr: its killed 8 hard drives, a power supply and 3 motherboards
10:06 PM rue_mohr: its just a cursed computer
10:07 PM rue_mohr: the old shop jukebox ran years
10:07 PM rue_mohr: I think it was a day short of 2 years uptime once
10:07 PM rue_mohr: it was a bit slow, but solid as a rock
10:08 PM Tom_L: huh
10:12 PM rue_mohr: this one is too
10:13 PM rue_mohr: well, the video card locks up sometimes with programs that leak video memeory or soemthing
10:13 PM rue_mohr: its rare
10:33 PM aandrew: https://ibb.co/album/b5K1Nj finally finished the routing
10:33 PM Tom_L: you missed one thing
10:34 PM Tom_L: i dunno what but you missed one :)
10:34 PM Tom_L: always happens
10:41 PM aandrew: oh
10:41 PM aandrew: I kind of freak out my clients when I tell them without a hint of sarcasm or humour that I'm 100% sure there's at least one mistake on there, there always is
10:41 PM aandrew: when I have their full attention after that, I tell them that it's my job to make sure that one thing is something relatively easy ot fix, that's what makes me the expert
10:43 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, is that footprint right? its not flipped is it?
10:44 PM aandrew: actually there are two nervous points in this circuit
10:44 PM aandrew: well three
10:44 PM rue_mohr: heh
10:44 PM aandrew: 1) I am not 100% sure I have the footprint for the i.MX8 SOM correct. I'm giving the 3D files to a mechanical guy to verify for me
10:44 PM rue_mohr: awe you got a mechanical guy?
10:44 PM aandrew: 2) I have *not* verified every single ball on the FPGA, so there might be a swap hiding (I'm going to check this)
10:45 PM rue_mohr: I need to do a pcb for that card reader
10:45 PM aandrew: 3) the FPGA was calling for about 50% more capacitors than what I actually placed. There's no way in hell even at 0201 that I could have placed them all
10:45 PM aandrew: well I guess 4) I haven't sent the schematic to the FPGA FAE to verify I haven't screwed up something basic
10:46 PM aandrew: I was trying hard to avoid 8 layers but there was just no way, you can see the dark red layer was kind of the last one and I was begrudgingly using it
10:47 PM aandrew: it would have been easier as an HDI design but I was both trying to avoid the cost and also quite certain I could achieve it without
10:47 PM aandrew: but holy shit that was not fun breaking out that FPGA, and inf act there are lots of balls not routed
10:47 PM aandrew: just no way to fan them out without laser drills
10:48 PM aandrew: I will be very pleasantly surprised if there are no major issues here
10:48 PM rue_mohr: I was quite happy with my first bga there
10:48 PM rue_mohr: I need to try reflowing it, see if I can ditch the shorts
10:48 PM aandrew: you've got shorts?
10:48 PM rue_mohr: well
10:49 PM rue_mohr: to make sure everyone connected, I have the bga a little wiggle
10:49 PM rue_mohr: just a tiny one
10:49 PM rue_mohr: honest
10:50 PM aandrew: ah, yes that can be dangerous
10:53 PM rue_mohr: awe, I forgot how much of a pain it is to start a new kicad baord from scratch
