03:15 AM rue_mohr: ok I fixed up a pcb for a vacuum packer that I came across during the work week
03:23 AM rue_mohr: a store had it all taken apart with the pcb out
03:23 AM rue_mohr: I asked if they needed it fixed up
05:23 AM Tom_L: nice
01:24 PM m00n is now known as bakanoyue
02:40 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/batterySpotWelder/slide.htm
02:41 PM rue_mohr: in 2020 I didn't post any projects to the site :(
02:44 PM rue_mohr: oof 2230
03:02 PM Tom_L: nice one
03:23 PM rue_mohr: I wanted to use capacitor discharge, cause if the switch locks on, your ok
03:23 PM rue_mohr: its working and I'm using it more than I thought
03:26 PM Tom_L: did you make a mount for the leads?
03:27 PM rue_mohr: no those are supposed to be temporary
03:27 PM rue_mohr: I have a fixed electrode jig started, but realized its not always what the job needs
03:27 PM rue_mohr: so I'm a little headless on that front
03:27 PM Tom_L: yeah
03:27 PM rue_mohr: I"ll use the thing for a while and see if I come up with something
03:28 PM rue_mohr: cant hit any of the right keys on the keyboard anymore
03:28 PM Tom_L: maybe something like probe leads
03:28 PM Tom_L: hand held
03:28 PM rue_mohr: definitly needs to be copper, not brass
03:28 PM Tom_L: yeah
03:28 PM rue_mohr: there is a thing on aliexpress
03:28 PM rue_mohr: really simple set of electrodes with a spring a trigger switch
03:29 PM rue_mohr: BUT a lot of designs just use free probes like a multimeter
03:29 PM rue_mohr: https://sc04.alicdn.com/kf/H8e76733a74054aa5b3b72c64278f584f5.jpg
03:29 PM Tom_L: that's what i was thinking
03:29 PM rue_mohr: I started to design/print one of those
03:30 PM rue_mohr: its pretty simple
03:31 PM rue_mohr: I need to make up a battery for work today too
03:31 PM rue_mohr: 3S
03:31 PM rue_mohr: NiMH
03:31 PM rue_mohr: today is evaporating quick
03:32 PM rue_mohr: just had a shower and making breakfast
04:51 PM bakanoyue: fuq
05:10 PM rue_mohr: https://twitter.com/sudamin/status/1308276717392334850
05:51 PM Tom_L: underwater volcano captured from a satelite: https://www.space.com/tonga-underwater-volcano-stunning-eruption-from-space-video
06:16 PM polprog_: tomorrow gonna stay in
06:17 PM polprog_: one lecture is gonna be remote, the other i dont care about, and i would not make it in time for the remote lecture anyway if i went there
06:17 PM polprog_: Coming weeks i have loads of work, final exams are near
06:17 PM polprog_: so i was and will be a bit quiet
06:19 PM polprog_: im reverse engineering a chinese led controller board tho
06:19 PM polprog_: it has some obscure stm32 clone (probably), the part number comes up as no hits on google. at all
06:19 PM polprog_: and an esp8266 so that at least should be reprogrammable
06:26 PM rue_mohr: heh
06:26 PM polprog_ is now known as polprog
06:27 PM polprog: :)
06:27 PM rue_mohr: you been pretty quiet for a while now
06:27 PM polprog: Yeah, lots of things ate my time
06:27 PM polprog: i stopped spending most of the time at the bench, messing with FPGAs for hours with IRC open somewhere
06:28 PM polprog: hard to do that when you do things in 20-ish minute intervals between stuff you are actually supposed to do
06:28 PM rue_mohr: are you even playing with anything less or equally advanced as your course material?
06:29 PM polprog: no, most of this stuff is unrelated
06:29 PM polprog: the actual microcontroller programming subject is next semester
06:29 PM polprog: i dont want to learn blinking leds on AVR
06:29 PM polprog: ATmega16 iirc
06:29 PM polprog: i know that
06:30 PM polprog: so i talked to the prof and ill be doing a project instead, its a kind of a remote controlled power distribution unit for some experiment
06:30 PM polprog: supposedly at CERN but i dont believe that
06:30 PM polprog: i dont care, as long as i pass it's fine and dandy
06:30 PM rue_mohr: :)
06:30 PM rue_mohr: just remember to focus on it!
06:31 PM rue_mohr: and you would make more money on a multichannel power monitor
06:31 PM polprog: ikr
06:32 PM polprog: ill make it expansible so ill be able to add power measurements myself
06:32 PM polprog: bascially its a telnet server with 4 pairs of relays, and maybe some failsafe features
06:32 PM polprog: probably gonna make it on something like stm32 if i can buy them, or espXXX
06:33 PM rue_mohr: twitter says 213000 views on the 2.7k resistor post
06:33 PM polprog: lol nice!
06:33 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if I can ever beat that, I bet I cant come close
06:34 PM polprog: ive reversed this, hardware side, nearly completely now
06:34 PM polprog: https://twitter.com/polprogpl/status/1482540179021869062
06:34 PM polprog: i cant get the TZ32 chip to talk
06:34 PM polprog: got it all up in a (private for now) repository
06:35 PM polprog: maybe ill switch it to public tomorrow or this week
06:35 PM polprog: id like to be able to show that you can at least talk to both chips here
06:35 PM polprog: it's basically a WiFi + STM32(i think) board
06:36 PM polprog: they share the programming pins between ESP8266 and that chinese STM32 clone, so that may be the reason i cant talk to it
06:36 PM polprog: ill try to put the ESP in uart download some mode and.. maybe then it will allow me to talk to the TZ32
06:36 PM polprog: though SWDIO and RX is shared >_<
06:36 PM polprog: Anti devkit design
06:37 PM rue_mohr: they can chain jtag
06:38 PM polprog: its not chained
06:38 PM rue_mohr: the nortel network swtiches I have, have a jtag chain that loops thru the microcontroller and the 2 or 3 cplds on it
06:38 PM polprog: thats the normal way..
06:44 PM polprog: nighters
06:45 PM rue_mohr: hmm, well bigtrak didn't help me on how to synchronize the motors
09:09 PM Tom_L: he's from linuxcnc
09:22 PM rue_mohr: :)
09:22 PM Tom_L: interweb was slow
09:27 PM rue_mohr: I ran out of do before all the doing was done
09:27 PM rue_mohr: rest isn't getting me out of tired
09:28 PM Tom_L: what's that thread size on the jug in his pic? robotics?
09:28 PM Tom_L: looks like an extinguisher
09:29 PM rue_mohr: it could be, I'v not seen one like that before
09:30 PM Tom_L: just made me think
09:35 PM Tom_L: i don't know how active they are now but you might get a kick out of rumaging thru this https://portlandrobotics.org/home.php?link_id=1
09:35 PM Tom_L: the guy that makes your boards is from there
09:35 PM Tom_L: just happened upon it by accident mostly
09:36 PM Tom_L: ancient stuff might be interesting..
09:36 PM Tom_L: i think marvin green was the one that did the botboard
09:36 PM Tom_L: https://portlandrobotics.org/ancient.php?link_id=15
09:36 PM Tom_L: 68hc11
09:50 PM rue_mohr: hmm
