05:16 AM rue_bed: its 3am, brain, please go to sleep now
05:24 AM Tom_L: yeah what he said...
05:57 AM polprog: rue_mohr: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/8051duinorev1p.png
05:58 AM polprog: ive put the latch under, i have space for a max232 now but no space for a db9
05:58 AM polprog: what else can i put there
06:14 AM polprog: rue_mohr: do you see any obvious mistakes? https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/8051duino.pdf
12:30 PM rue_mohr: hahah snow is almost gone
12:31 PM rue_mohr: perfectly snowed me in for my whole time off
01:38 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: heh - is that a good thing? if I have no plans or need to go out I *love* when I'm snowed in
01:38 PM aandrew: fireplace, coffee and just stare out the window
01:39 PM aandrew: polprog> rue_mohr: do you see any obvious mistakes? https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/8051duino.pdf
01:39 PM aandrew: polprog: you are a sick, sick man. :-)
01:39 PM polprog: :D
01:40 PM polprog: Hello aandrew
01:41 PM aandrew: man I really need to buckle down and get this schematic done
01:41 PM aandrew: I have been avoiding it because I have two HUGE schematic symbols to create and just don't feel it
01:51 PM polprog: Hmm
01:51 PM polprog: Thats the boring part :/
03:16 PM rue_bed: now, you have all that space under the 8051 too
03:16 PM rue_bed: db9? dont use a db9...
03:16 PM rue_bed: can you swing something like a ch340?
03:17 PM rue_bed: and what did you connect P1 and P2 to?
03:18 PM rue_bed: and I still think it would be good to target an NVRAM chip
03:18 PM rue_bed: I can give you a part number later today
03:21 PM rue_bed: crystal could go on the back
03:21 PM rue_bed: could use a slim reset button
03:22 PM rue_bed: working away from retro slowly, but could be smt leds
03:23 PM polprog: chartreuse had some suggestions too, maybe ill work on it a bit tonight
03:24 PM rue_bed: I wonder if the 7805 on the back under the 8051
03:24 PM polprog: leds are huge, ill probably replace them with smaller ones
03:24 PM rue_bed: atleast rectangular?
03:24 PM polprog: i kinda dont want to put stuff on the back, ill go for a dpak 7805
03:24 PM rue_bed: k
03:24 PM polprog: ill add some ram to it too
03:24 PM polprog: and use a 39SF0x0 chip so it can reprogram itself
03:24 PM rue_bed: the NVRAM thing is cool
03:25 PM rue_bed: you dont need eprom
03:25 PM rue_bed: and you can use anything as ram
03:25 PM polprog: yeah
03:25 PM polprog: its a flash but one that does not need external vpp
03:26 PM polprog: ill take a shower first
03:26 PM rue_bed: yea, but nvram :)
03:26 PM polprog: hmm. maybe there is a 27cxxx compatible nvram chip? that would fit all
03:26 PM polprog: 28 and 32 pin memory chips
04:18 PM rue_mohr: the problem is that ram and rom chips went slightly different directions on the pinouts
04:18 PM rue_mohr: I dont think more than 4 signal lines are different (aside from the difference in pinout count)
04:53 PM aandrew: why not use DB9? anyone using 8051 will certainly appreciate sticking to EIA-232's roots and not moving to USB. :-)
04:54 PM aandrew: in fact if you're not going to use a good old 5651 instead of a 7805 I don't think this product will sell
04:54 PM aandrew: *instead of a modern 7805
05:06 PM rue_mohr: its just that going from db9 to usb is annoying, I know it fits retro, but cant we have a modern retro? {Rue cites the crystal used}
05:35 PM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
07:19 PM aandrew: I'm a little sad that you didn't comment on the regulator
07:44 PM rue_mohr: not immediatly familiar with the 5651
07:44 PM rue_mohr: hmm its not even in the sheet repository
07:45 PM rue_mohr: I presume you dont mean the CS5651
07:52 PM Tom_L: snow day?
07:53 PM rue_mohr: the 1st was sat, so, holiday is monday
07:54 PM Tom_L: mmm
08:29 PM rue_shop3: 23mm high
08:29 PM rue_shop3: 6mm dia
09:48 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: https://frank.pocnet.net/sheets/127/5/5651WA.pdf
10:17 PM rue_mohr: oh dear me
10:18 PM rue_mohr: its not 5V tho
10:36 PM aandrew: if your 8051 can't run at 85V then it's not a real 8051
10:36 PM aandrew: actually a vacuum tube 555 would be kind of cool
10:36 PM aandrew: well warm
10:44 PM rue_mohr: heh,
10:45 PM rue_mohr: did you know pin 7 tips out at 100mA
10:45 PM rue_mohr: it goes all constant current
10:45 PM rue_mohr: the NE555 I have need a 1k resistor to get a proper high out of pin 3
