12:01 AM aandrew: if you print the end pieces rotated 90 degrees they come out really nice
12:15 AM aandrew: and they're stronger too because you're not pushing against the z layer seams
12:23 AM aandrew: Good question - I have never used twitch
12:28 AM rue_mohr: hmm
12:28 AM rue_mohr: maybe its for the kids
12:29 AM rue_mohr: last time I was watching a tech thing it seemed like a lot of kids who didn't understand anything just basking in the happenings
12:31 AM rue_mohr: did you say it looked like the latch was extending below the base?
12:43 AM aandrew: yes
12:45 AM aandrew: https://ibb.co/bbYFSBk
12:45 AM aandrew: it's not much at all
12:45 AM rue_mohr: wow
12:46 AM rue_mohr: ok, not like that on my printer...
12:46 AM rue_mohr: ok
12:55 AM rue_mohr: hey whats a safe diameter for a temp sensor?
12:55 AM rue_mohr: like 3mm?
12:55 AM aandrew: that's a good question. I'd look at fitting a TO92 LM31 or whatever
12:55 AM aandrew: that'd be pretty safe
12:55 AM rue_mohr: ah!
12:55 AM aandrew: LM35
12:55 AM rue_mohr: not a temp-sensing diode man :)
01:18 AM rue_mohr: ok, so I added zip tie mount holes
01:19 AM rue_mohr: I changed the margins to give the levers more space
01:19 AM rue_mohr: I added a tunnel for a temp sensor
01:19 AM rue_mohr: and I added a bump for wire strain relief
01:37 AM rue_mohr: aandrew, 85 likes already, thats insane
02:09 AM rue_mohr: I think it'll taper off and almost hit 100
07:35 AM rue_bed2: .
08:03 AM Tom_L: .
11:34 AM rue_mohr: wholy crazy twitter
11:35 AM Tom_L: hit the jackpot ehh?
11:35 AM rue_mohr: just a lot of replies to stuff
11:36 AM Tom_L: i'm not on it
11:38 AM rue_mohr: I dont hold it aainst you :)
11:40 AM rue_mohr: wholy **** the battery holder mention aandrew posted hit 185 likes, thats almost 200% of the expected "everyone who could be interested"
11:41 AM rue_mohr: I'm at 2050 followers!
11:41 AM rue_mohr: I have to post my 11 bits celebration!
11:42 AM rue_mohr: that cant be stable
11:45 AM rue_mohr: whats funny tom
11:45 AM rue_mohr: is that
11:45 AM rue_mohr: the post is about the battery holder
11:45 AM rue_mohr: thats posted on thingiverse
11:46 AM rue_mohr: but
11:46 AM rue_mohr: the thing itself...
11:47 AM rue_mohr: has almost no attention
11:49 AM rue_mohr: there are almost no views or downloads of it...
11:50 AM rue_mohr: thingiverse doesn't seem to be showing likes anymore
12:37 PM Tom_L: huh
12:39 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: yeah it’s nuts, I even got a Russian RT that the translation makes no sense on. :-)
12:40 PM aandrew: Oh, thought of something: the battery electrical connections could be made with staples if the spacing of the holes is right. I still like the wire idea, but that’d be a neat thing
12:43 PM aandrew: My wife was completely unenthused about it. I think that’s a good sign too
12:43 PM aandrew: She’s like “yeah, and?” :-)
12:58 PM rue_mohr: oo right I have a new version on my printer
12:58 PM rue_mohr: the wire connectors are one of those quality vs availablility compromises, where availability always seems to win
12:58 PM rue_mohr: I noticed a number of battery holders on thingiverse that you buy terminals for
12:58 PM rue_mohr: their nice, but, have to buy parts and wait for them
12:58 PM Tom_L: isn't that how it is now?
12:58 PM rue_mohr: no, the terminals are just bare wire
12:58 PM Tom_L: but but you're supposed to have to order something for it and wait 6 weeks to get it
01:03 PM rue_mohr: my printer also underprints holes on XY
01:03 PM rue_mohr: so the adjustments need to be tweeked
01:11 PM rue_mohr: ah, and I have a bit of XY lash which made the holes a bit smaller again
01:23 PM aandrew: I spent a fair amount of time trying to get dimensionally accurate prints. I needed just a slight horizontal expansion (0.015mm I think?) to make holes the right size
01:23 PM aandrew: I should run a few calibration tests, it’s been several months
01:24 PM Tom_L: how often does one of those need a 'tune up'?
01:26 PM rue_mohr: never?
01:28 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, you have to be carefull trying to do that, there is scale, and there is an offset
01:28 PM rue_mohr: so I use a calibration pattern that removes the offset
01:29 PM rue_mohr: the offset is usually half the nozzel diameter, because the slicers are written wrong and dont use the right offset
01:31 PM Tom_L: maybe somebody should fix the slicers
01:40 PM rue_mohr: the position has been taken that there is nothing wrong with them, its a factor of the printing that unavoidiable
01:40 PM rue_mohr: I have not yet set up a printer configuration for a HUGE printer that makes it obvious its on the wrong side of the line
01:41 PM aandrew: I calibrate steps on all axes, then flow, then small adjustments for dimensional accuracy. Flow is absolutely dependent on extrusion rate and temp, and also on filament humidity
01:58 PM rue_mohr: there is the "is the slicer right" aspect too
01:59 PM rue_mohr: oh dear, there is a person manipulting my mom to take care of their dog for free, and their at it again
01:59 PM rue_mohr: it totally stresses her out
02:18 PM rue_mohr: 208%
02:37 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, the other reason for me using 2d profiles like this, is its a LOT faster in openscad than if you use CSG
02:37 PM rue_mohr: their CSG seems to top the slow chart
02:50 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1220255.jpg
02:51 PM rue_mohr: thats a version behind, I respaced the connection holes to 12mm, which matches the staples I have
02:52 PM Tom_L: she can't tell them NO!
02:52 PM Tom_L: ?
02:53 PM rue_mohr: she doesn't seem to be able to
02:53 PM Tom_L: if the dog happened to run away they wouldn't ask anymore
02:53 PM Tom_L: :)
02:54 PM rue_mohr: I'v tried everything with her
02:54 PM rue_mohr: she loves it, but taking care of it really taxes her
02:54 PM Tom_L: aparently it's someone you know
02:54 PM Tom_L: what kind of dog?
02:54 PM rue_mohr: small poodle of type
02:55 PM Tom_L: i don't like poodles
02:55 PM Tom_L: they can be onery
02:55 PM rue_mohr: meh
02:55 PM Tom_L: and i do like dogs
03:00 PM Tom_L: you're taking battery holders to a whole new level :)
03:06 PM rue_mohr: I just wanted strain relief and a push-eject feature
04:43 PM aandrew: oh I see what you meant by zip ties now
04:44 PM aandrew: I thought you were going up through one screwhole, across to the other, and down the second
04:44 PM aandrew: not two zip ties "across" each screw hole
04:59 PM aandrew: holy fuckballs
05:00 PM aandrew: 3.5k views of my stupid little video and 220 likes? I never knew I had any marketing ability :-)
05:01 PM aandrew: I am envisioning a 3-in-parallel idea now where the latches for the three batteries are all fixed together on each side and you pop out all three at once, and pop in all three too
05:01 PM aandrew: you can wire the batteries in series right on the ejector tabs
07:09 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, yea, what did you say that I didn't?
07:09 PM rue_mohr: I think that would be an issue, you would have to push them all in at once
07:12 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: yes you'd have to karate chop them in
07:13 PM aandrew: I have no idea, and I do *not* have nearly the same kind of engagment that you do
07:13 PM aandrew: maybe because I was promoting something not-mine?
07:16 PM rue_mohr: I'm clueless, thats well over 200% of what I consider maximum lines
07:16 PM rue_mohr: likes
07:16 PM rue_mohr: for anything technical
07:16 PM aandrew: yeah it's wild
07:16 PM rue_mohr: It would be cool to be at a maker faire and see one
07:17 PM rue_mohr: oh, I adjusted the design for staples, but
07:17 PM rue_mohr: they are too thin
07:17 PM rue_mohr: it was calibrated around thicker wire thru the holes
07:18 PM rue_mohr: I'm going to adjust it a bit tho
07:18 PM rue_mohr: the + pocket is a bit deep for some of my test cells
07:19 PM aandrew: yeah and it'd be a challenge to get reverse polarity protection with an 18650 which have pretty flat anodes
07:19 PM aandrew: it's ok though - the design is awesome
07:19 PM aandrew: and deceptively simple if you look at the source
07:19 PM aandrew: I feel like I'm looking at some wizardry
07:38 PM rue_mohr: the 2d profiles do amazing things
07:38 PM rue_mohr: not organic shapes tho
08:02 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/pieciokatne_pudelko.jpg
08:02 PM polprog: Freecad external geometry onto another body
08:02 PM polprog: now i have a box where the lid resizes automatically
08:02 PM rue_mohr: all freecad did for me was to just crash
08:03 PM polprog: It sometimes does for me
08:03 PM polprog: also
08:03 PM rue_mohr: it wouldn't even start, it just crashed
08:03 PM polprog: new PC front panel

08:03 PM rue_mohr: so I use librecad
08:03 PM polprog: ill have two buttons and the keyswitch
08:03 PM rue_mohr: and for the 3d stuff, librecad and openscad
08:03 PM aandrew: polprog: ooh, fancy
08:04 PM polprog: no idea librecad supports 3d
08:04 PM polprog: i have to look into it
08:04 PM polprog: Freecad does extremely idiotic things if you try to go back and edit stuff
08:05 PM rue_mohr: the only issue I have with openscad is its horridly slow CGI
08:05 PM rue_mohr: erCSG
08:05 PM polprog: allright
08:05 PM polprog: 3 am
08:05 PM polprog: gotta sleep....
08:05 PM rue_mohr: and librecad has an awefull time with tangents to circles
08:06 PM polprog: i just wanted to show you the stuff i did
08:06 PM polprog: goodnight :)
08:06 PM rue_mohr: I'm excited to see it in action!
08:06 PM polprog: Yes!
08:06 PM polprog: Same :)
08:06 PM polprog: Im also making a back for a walkietalkie
08:06 PM polprog: gonna make a lithium battery pack for it
08:07 PM polprog: night!
08:07 PM rue_mohr: :)
