10:23 AM aandrew: rue_mohr: LOL at the Twitter dude educating you on electromech.
12:17 PM rue_bed2: :)
01:41 PM rue_mohr: I have some really huge caps, I wonder if I should just make an iron-core converter that runs at like 300Hz
01:44 PM rue_mohr: not sure what to do about a dome for this bot
01:44 PM rue_mohr: didn't think forming bottle plastic would be so much of a problem
01:45 PM rue_mohr: if I had a positive mold, I could try the shrink-wrap-a-bottle thing
02:08 PM rue_mohr: so, I'd like to work out how to make this dome
02:08 PM rue_mohr: and I'd like to get a power converter togethor
02:09 PM rue_mohr: and I'd like to get a system done up for BH curve tracing
02:13 PM Tom_L: dome?
02:15 PM Tom_L: bottom off a 2litre bottle
02:15 PM rue_mohr: I want really nice and roundie
02:15 PM rue_mohr: and transparent
02:15 PM rue_mohr: I tried vacuum forming the side of a pop bottle cut out into a sheet yesterday
02:16 PM rue_mohr: the force of the shrinkage is really strong and the vacuum couldn't pull it
02:16 PM Tom_L: so you're about making bots again?
02:17 PM rue_mohr: I have an incling to assemble and sell one before christmas
02:17 PM rue_mohr: I didn't stop, I just been on a detour
02:17 PM Tom_L: that's not far away
02:17 PM rue_mohr: no
02:17 PM Tom_L: oh yeah... butterflies
02:18 PM Tom_L: you want it clear ehh
02:18 PM rue_mohr: not sure when the last time I touched a bot was :)
02:18 PM Tom_L: been ages for me
02:18 PM rue_mohr: I suspect there is something at the dollar store that would do
02:18 PM Tom_L: been focused on finishing the cnc
02:18 PM rue_mohr: but I'm interested to learn a trick for myself
02:19 PM rue_mohr: some projects dont finish
02:19 PM rue_mohr: they just evolvev
02:19 PM Tom_L: rotary was the last of the original plans
02:20 PM Tom_L: a cam for it seemed out of the question but went rather easy
02:22 PM Tom_L: what diameter dome?
02:22 PM rue_mohr: can you go from STL to NC?
02:22 PM rue_mohr: 11cm
02:22 PM rue_mohr: about 7cm high, so a bit of a sylinder on the bottom
02:23 PM Tom_L: stl -> solidworks -> iges -> catia -> iges -> smartcam -> rue's mill
02:23 PM rue_mohr: the next test is to take a pop bottle inflate it larger, cut it up, and shrink wrap it around a former
02:23 PM Tom_L: so, yes
02:23 PM rue_mohr: but I dont have a former
02:23 PM Tom_L: that will be your next distraction
02:24 PM rue_mohr: I need to get this large cnc up
02:24 PM rue_mohr: I should put the blanks I need to machine beside the lathe
02:26 PM rue_mohr: so, do you recal that 8051 BASIC I was playing with
02:26 PM rue_mohr: I thought it might be cool to have a wifi terminal to it, and use it on the robot
02:26 PM Tom_L: sorta
02:26 PM rue_mohr: you could http to it, and realtime edit the code
02:27 PM rue_mohr: I got the framework of a webpage made up
02:27 PM rue_mohr: the next step would require the esp8266 backend
02:28 PM Tom_L: catia won't import stl
02:29 PM Tom_L: the iges from solidworks is less than stellar to my cad cam
02:29 PM Tom_L: catia's iges is much better there
02:29 PM rue_mohr: D
02:29 PM rue_mohr: ^v 11cm
02:29 PM rue_mohr: <> 7cm
02:29 PM Tom_L: but not a half sphere
02:30 PM Tom_L: you gonna print one?
02:30 PM rue_mohr: bit off, to get to 7cm
02:30 PM rue_mohr: cant be printed
02:30 PM rue_mohr: the plastic wont take heat
02:30 PM rue_mohr: and I cant print clear material
02:30 PM Tom_L: build a metal printer
02:30 PM rue_mohr: hah
02:30 PM Tom_L: glass
02:30 PM rue_mohr: I'm wondering if I can find a close metal thing at the dollar store
02:31 PM Tom_L: you'd go broke with the inert gas it takes
02:31 PM rue_mohr: but gas is stupid right now and I dont want to drive
02:31 PM Tom_L: a snow globe
02:31 PM rue_mohr: dunno
02:31 PM rue_mohr: might be lots of optins
02:31 PM aandrew: how big does it have to be?
02:31 PM rue_mohr: I'd make a wood former but I'd like something less... woogly
02:32 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> D
02:32 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> ^v 11cm
02:32 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> <> 7cm
02:32 PM rue_mohr: the 11cm is flexible, I'm going to redo the base anyhow
02:32 PM rue_mohr: I can change the size a bit easy
02:32 PM Tom_L: 7 wide?
02:32 PM rue_mohr: 7 deep
02:32 PM Tom_L: tall
02:32 PM rue_mohr: so r = 5.5 + 1.5 cylinder
02:32 PM Tom_L: 11 wide 7 tall
02:33 PM Tom_L: so a 3 point arc
02:33 PM rue_mohr: and like I say, its non critical
02:33 PM aandrew: so it doesn't have to be a sphere, just have 7cm space from center to top and however wide?
02:33 PM Tom_L: swept into a dome
02:33 PM rue_mohr: 10cm or 15cm whatever
02:33 PM aandrew: hm
02:33 PM aandrew: if it didn't have to be a sphere I'd think there would be lots of container options at a dollar store that might fit
02:33 PM * Tom_L adds formulas to the drawing cause rue keeps changin his mind
02:33 PM rue_mohr: its modeled after a dome camera
02:34 PM rue_mohr: I didn't quite think this step would be so hard
02:34 PM Tom_L: with mounting bosses like the experimenter box
02:35 PM Tom_L: you're gettin pretty good at casting.. ready to try glass now?
02:36 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1210842.jpg
02:36 PM rue_mohr: see the inspiration here?
02:37 PM Tom_L: well right there's yer dome
02:37 PM rue_mohr: they masked the inside :(
02:38 PM rue_mohr: knowing how to form a dome could come in handy later
02:42 PM Tom_L: i'm quite sure those are from a polished aluminum mold
02:43 PM Tom_L: or steel
02:44 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/practice_drawings/%2352_offset_extrude.jpg
03:00 PM rue_mohr: or injected
03:01 PM rue_mohr: I can model it really quick
03:01 PM rue_mohr: but there isn't much point
03:01 PM rue_mohr: I dont think I can use a wood mold, even if I sanded the hell out of it
03:02 PM rue_mohr: then again, this is pretty far from perfect so far
03:28 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/quantum_circuits.txt
03:28 PM polprog: noted down some stuff i dont wanna forget
03:29 PM rue_mohr: hmm
03:51 PM Tom_L: wood, bondo, sand
03:52 PM Tom_L: polprog, the problem i have is where i put the note
03:52 PM polprog: i was looking for a scope probe for an entire day yesteday
03:52 PM polprog: turns out it was exactly where i put it, in the little drawer
03:53 PM Tom_L: i got news for ya
03:53 PM Tom_L: it don't get better as you age
03:53 PM polprog: i need to build an item tracking system that will never work because no one bothers to update it
04:26 PM rue_mohr: unless, SLAM
04:26 PM rue_mohr: it tracks it for you
04:26 PM rue_mohr: LOTS of cameras
04:29 PM aandrew: item tracking as in inventory or?
04:32 PM rue_mohr: where the hell did I just put it
04:46 PM Tom_L: or wtf was i looking for to begin with
07:03 PM rue_mohr: ok, back from the dollar store
07:03 PM rue_mohr: there was nothing to use as a former
07:03 PM rue_mohr: there was nothing pre-made thats a round dome
07:04 PM rue_mohr: but there are some clear bowls that look reasonable
07:04 PM rue_mohr: and someone pionted out to just use the bottom of a 2L bottle and accept its all bumpy and stuff
07:04 PM rue_mohr: I shall ponder this
07:06 PM Tom_L: are they all bumpy on the bottom?
09:27 PM rue_shop3: its runny ya know, the pop bottle is AWFUL close to the 11cm I was targeting
09:30 PM Tom_L: what's runny?
09:31 PM rue_mohr: funny
09:31 PM Tom_L: now that makes more sense
09:40 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: https://ca1lib.org/book/17242274/fc7842
09:40 PM rue_mohr: wow go aandrew !
09:43 PM aandrew: it's a very very slow site but if I manage to get it I'll put it somewhere faster
09:43 PM rue_mohr: I'm working on it
09:43 PM rue_mohr: only 10 mins left
09:43 PM rue_mohr: if their modem does't konk out
10:04 PM aandrew: I got it
10:05 PM aandrew: lmk if you need me to upload it
10:11 PM rue_shop3: oh I'm sure its still downloading, I'll give you a shout if it doen't com ein
10:59 PM aandrew: ugh
11:00 PM aandrew: spent probably 3h trying to figure out what setting I changed in my printer profile, it would suddenly and violently acclerate the extruder at teh end of a line, causing skipping
11:00 PM aandrew: the worst part is that before I started screwing with settings i thought "I should save the current settings just in case" and then dismissed it
11:01 PM aandrew: idiot. me.
11:04 PM aandrew: for the record, it's Cura's "Flow Rate Compensation Max Extrusion offset"; default is 0mm, I set it to 5mm so the flow rate compenstation had something to do. Then I thought maybe because I finally gave the flow rate compensation something to do, my max speed for flow rate compensation (120mm/sec) was too fast
11:04 PM aandrew: but that the flow rate compensation max extrusion doesn't seem to use that setting
11:54 PM rue_mohr: I'm using marlin
11:54 PM rue_mohr: :)
