12:20 AM Tom_L: this was a long day
12:28 AM rue_mohr: hmm ok
12:28 AM rue_mohr: I'm still learning switching power supplies
12:28 AM rue_mohr: not there yet
02:46 PM rue_bed2: huh
02:46 PM rue_bed2: I'm awake
02:46 PM rue_bed2: I was up till 9am
02:47 PM Tom_L: why?
02:50 PM rue_bed2: inductors and movie
02:52 PM rue_bed2: I'm trying to understand how storage of energy realates to voltages for a device that resists changes in current
02:53 PM rue_bed2: its bending my brain
02:53 PM rue_bed2: if you charge an inductor with voltage, the current steadily goes up
02:54 PM rue_bed2: if you release that voltage, the current starts to decline, and it generates whatever voltage is required to maintain it
02:54 PM rue_bed2: and dumps about the same amount of energy it was given
02:55 PM Tom_L: i'd say inductors kept you up longer than the movie
02:55 PM rue_bed2: switching power supplies, in one way or another, work like a bucket brigade
02:55 PM rue_bed2: and iductors are usually the buckets
02:56 PM rue_bed2: tho caps aren't much different
02:58 PM rue_bed2: I needed to make the mini awening for the cats
02:58 PM rue_bed2: its raining and he wants to be out
02:58 PM rue_bed2: windows open, :)
02:58 PM rue_bed2: I need breakfast and lunch
02:59 PM Tom_L: may as well toss supper in there too
02:59 PM Tom_L: then you won't have to stop later
03:45 PM rue_mohr: dont even know what I want for breakfast
03:45 PM rue_mohr: I want to be a robot that doesn't need to eat for breakfast
04:48 PM Tom_L: well if you were you would wait until your power level was within 1" of making it to the charger
05:41 PM rue_mohr: or just stay plugged in
07:17 PM aandrew: rue_bed2> switching power supplies, in one way or another, work like a bucket brigade
07:17 PM aandrew: yes that's how I visualize it as well, it's using the inductor to take power in one form and spit it out in another, with the magnetic field as the intermediary
07:47 PM rue_mohr: you want to tackle that inductor problem
07:47 PM rue_mohr: ?
08:42 PM Tom_L: knowing a cat it would likely sit on top of the awning
10:08 PM rue_mohr: couldn't get up there, their getting old
10:12 PM aandrew: nope, I do not want to tackle the inductor problem. I'm overwhelmed atm
11:32 PM rue_mohr: ok, so today I studdied inductors
11:42 PM Tom_L: what did you learnded about em?
11:44 PM rue_mohr: how voltage, time and current actually all relate
11:45 PM rue_mohr: with saturation and power storage
11:45 PM rue_mohr: I might have had an understanding of it all before, back about 2002
11:45 PM rue_mohr: I'm worried that I'm starting to spend a lot of time teaching myself things I already knew
11:46 PM rue_mohr: not sure tho
11:46 PM * Tom_L gives rue_mohr a time machine
11:46 PM rue_mohr: I made a book a long time ago
11:46 PM rue_mohr: a good one
11:46 PM rue_mohr: sat down and worked out all the number for switching power supplies
11:46 PM rue_mohr: which got me into inductors, so I sat down and learned a lot about them
11:47 PM rue_mohr: but things were missing, and some things were in the wrong context
11:48 PM * Tom_L needs sleep
