12:58 AM Tom_L: well i got an unwrapped surface out of it
12:58 AM Tom_L: and i'm goin to sleep
01:02 AM rue_shop3: hah that was quick
01:02 AM rue_shop3: I have a problem with saturation still,
01:03 AM rue_shop3: the volt*seconds aren't working out
01:05 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/tube1.jpg
01:05 AM Tom_L: it looks prettier in catia :)
01:07 AM Tom_L: so proof of concept works
01:07 AM Tom_L: change your clock.
01:07 AM Tom_L: gnite
01:17 AM polprog: Morning
01:17 AM rue_mohr: hi
01:17 AM polprog: Im making a quick breakfast then going to the market
01:17 AM rue_mohr: did you see the inductor saturation oscillator?
02:40 AM rue_mohr: https://www.mag-inc.com/getattachment/Products/Ferrite-Cores/PowerDesign-FerriteCatalog2017.pdf
02:43 AM rue_shop3: drat, wrong one
04:29 AM polprog: I saw the inductor thread
04:29 AM polprog: Nice work :)
04:30 AM rue_mohr: the wild stuff is annoying me
04:30 AM rue_mohr: trying to work it all out
04:30 AM rue_mohr: that crazy polarity flip answers a LOT of questions
04:44 AM rue_mohr: and the answer is yes, a royer is a back to back blocking osc
05:01 AM Tom_L: morning
05:05 AM rue_mohr: heh
05:35 AM rue_mohr: 3am, I think I'm done
05:42 AM Tom_L: yeah probably a good idea
11:00 AM Tom_itx: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sENgdSF8ppA
11:59 AM rue_mohr: wat dis...
11:59 AM rue_mohr: mhm
12:00 PM rue_mohr: one of the fellows I know wanted to set up magnetic damping for a cupholder for his truck
04:58 PM aandrew: Tom_L: looks like eddy current braking
04:58 PM aandrew: cool and a little eerie
05:09 PM rue_mohr: people get all excited when I touch on ugly electronics topics in twitter
05:10 PM rue_mohr: wings is annoyed that I'm not using a core with a datasheet :)
05:10 PM rue_mohr: but is working with me
05:10 PM Tom_L: who's eddy?
05:11 PM Tom_L: hah
05:11 PM rue_shop3: the copper
05:11 PM Tom_L: aluminum works too doesn't it?
05:12 PM rue_shop3: yes, not as well
05:13 PM Tom_L: you see that on exercise bikes
05:13 PM Tom_L: the cheap kind with no motor
05:31 PM rue_shop3: yep
05:31 PM rue_shop3: usually band brakes here
06:10 PM Tom_L: https://i.stack.imgur.com/1Wp82.png
06:11 PM rue_shop3: :)
06:11 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/Tube1.jpg
06:12 PM Tom_L: didn't know if you saw that one or not
06:12 PM Tom_L: catia's magic
06:15 PM Tom_L: i was advised since that dividing head came from china, it may have picked up some sand and grit inside it crossing the ocean so i took it all apart and cleanded it today and regreased it and put it all back together
06:15 PM Tom_L: with no spare parts.
06:15 PM Tom_L: mine wasn't that bad but i understand some are
06:16 PM rue_shop3: oh neat
06:16 PM Tom_L: which?
06:16 PM rue_shop3: the unroll
06:16 PM Tom_L: yeah
06:17 PM Tom_L: there are 3 icons associated with that $14k feature
06:17 PM Tom_L: so i'm told
06:18 PM Tom_L: sometimes i think the profs like to exagerate a bit too
06:18 PM Tom_L: wtf else have they got to do...
06:19 PM Tom_L: it just makes creating the geometric features alot easier than trying to figure it out while they're unwrapped
08:30 PM rue_mohr: damnit I'm dozing off again
08:39 PM Tom_L: oh noes
08:39 PM Tom_L: i did too
08:39 PM rue_mohr: I should see if a time change happened and make supper
08:40 PM Tom_L: you don't wanna show up to work an hour early?
08:40 PM rue_mohr: I only have 1 clock that doesn't auto-adjust
08:41 PM Tom_L: that's funny because i just walked by the ONE clock i didn't switch and was ready to go to bed
08:43 PM Tom_L: i wonder the best way to align the tailstock on that thing
08:43 PM Tom_L: if i do much with it i'm sure i will be needing it sooner or later
08:50 PM aandrew: https://ibb.co/Qd2kLvC gps receiver on the left is struggling to see the birds, the one on the right is not.
08:55 PM rue_mohr: their right beside each other?
08:59 PM aandrew: no, about 100' x/y and ~30' z
09:00 PM aandrew: interesting -- I took the bad one and did nothing different other than to put a big metal plate under the antenna (not grounded, approximately 4' x 2') and the SNR jumped considerably
09:01 PM aandrew: I'll let this run for an hour then remove the plate while leaving the antenna where it is and see if this is real or not
09:02 PM aandrew: hah I guessed at 30' (the right is at the very tippy toe peak of my house, the left about 3' off the ground) -- 292m vs 303m is pretty much 30', heh
09:03 PM aandrew: I wonder if you can get GPS antennas which do NOT require a massive ground plane
09:03 PM aandrew: that might be the issue here
09:15 PM aandrew: the difference in DOP is astounding
