05:25 AM Tom_itx: use mousetrap
05:28 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
10:14 AM polprog: rue_mohr: lol that driver sounds interesting
11:17 AM rue_mohr: yes, but not usefull for much else that I can find
11:26 AM rue_mohr: <rue_shop1> rue_shop3, move the robot arm to the shed
11:26 AM rue_mohr: <rue_shop1> get milk
11:26 AM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> fix mouse
11:29 AM Tom_L: use mousetrap
11:32 AM rue_mohr: the scroll wheel on my mouse stopped working
11:32 AM rue_mohr: right
11:32 AM rue_mohr: gonna try a new sensor
12:54 PM rue_mohr: last night I put the ID lines on the eprom programer, got the whole personality module wired backwards
12:54 PM rue_mohr: thankfully thats only 5 wires
12:55 PM rue_mohr: need to see if I can help a fellow with some counter lighting
01:00 PM Tom_L: busy beaver
01:00 PM rue_mohr: not if I cant figure out breakfast
01:01 PM rue_mohr: I need generic food pucks
01:01 PM rue_mohr: doesn't matter if its breakfast/lunch/supper, just have a puck
01:35 PM rue_shop3: I need a high temp heatsink compoundd I can put IN the soldering iron tip
02:09 PM rue_mohr: yay, the personality module ID works
02:14 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> <rue_shop1> rue_shop3, move the robot arm to the shed
02:14 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> <rue_shop1> get milk
02:14 PM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> <rue_mohr> fix mouse
02:14 PM rue_mohr: need to go get groceries and install a light for a guy
04:01 PM aandrew: rue_mohr> I need generic food puck
04:01 PM aandrew: it's called cereal
04:01 PM aandrew: or breakfast bars
04:01 PM aandrew: I lived off those for a while
04:02 PM aandrew: and lipton cup of soup for lunch
04:02 PM aandrew: easy and your full weekly DV of sodium each day
04:04 PM aandrew: hm it looks like my IT infrastructure draws about 1kW on average
04:04 PM aandrew: that's 24kWh every day
04:10 PM rue_mohr: mhm
04:15 PM aandrew: with my current rates (12h off-peak $0.082/kWh, 6h mid-peak $0.113/kWh and 6h on-peak $0.17/kWh) that works out to $2.68/day if my math is right
04:16 PM rue_mohr: so, how much would it cost to cover that with a solar panel and what would the payoff time be?
04:16 PM rue_mohr: use $1/w for the panel
04:23 PM rue_mohr: ok I got milk
04:23 PM rue_mohr: move robot arm and fix mouse, ok
04:25 PM aandrew: ok, switched both the firewall and media server to the most power saving mode (although media server was already "ondemand", switched to "conservative", let's see if that makes a whit of differene
04:25 PM aandrew: the esxi server was already in low power state
04:25 PM aandrew: $1/w for the panel? well that's $1.5k (giving 50% margin)
04:26 PM aandrew: and if it's costing me $3/day, that'd be about 2y
04:27 PM aandrew: my monthly power bill is about $300, that means my IT setup is roughly 1/3 of that, that's a little nuts
04:43 PM rue_mohr: hmm
04:43 PM rue_mohr: 2y payoff isn't really that bad
04:44 PM Tom_L: .
04:45 PM Tom_L: what's the life expectancy of a pannel?
04:45 PM Tom_L: A: before it quite
04:45 PM Tom_L: quits
04:45 PM Tom_L: B: before it's obsolete
04:49 PM rue_mohr: a breaker panel?
04:49 PM Tom_L: solar
04:49 PM rue_mohr: oh
04:49 PM rue_mohr: like 20 years
04:49 PM rue_mohr: but obsolete after 6 months
04:52 PM Tom_L: got out and about a little today and feel fair
04:54 PM rue_mohr: yea I gonna go move the arm now
04:54 PM rue_mohr: er, play clothes first
05:15 PM rue_shop3: ok, robot relocated
05:15 PM rue_shop3: man its heavy
05:15 PM rue_shop3: and loose
05:21 PM Tom_L: :)
05:21 PM Tom_L: which one?
05:22 PM Tom_L: you made a few arms iirc
05:22 PM rue_mohr: arm5
05:22 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/robots/arm5/slide.htm
05:22 PM Tom_L: what were the cylinders?
05:23 PM rue_mohr: bed actuators from the hospital
05:23 PM Tom_L: screw drive, pneumatic?
05:23 PM rue_mohr: slow as all hell
05:23 PM rue_mohr: lead screw yep
05:23 PM Tom_L: oh
05:23 PM Tom_L: bed lifters
05:23 PM rue_mohr: 24V ones
05:32 PM Tom_L: somebody posted this: new #crafting channel, its about making things, from many ways from 3d printing, cnc, expoxy etc
05:33 PM Tom_L: thought it might interest
05:33 PM Tom_L: i didn't look
05:33 PM rue_shop3: hmmm
05:34 PM rue_shop3: we should sit in for a while
05:54 PM Tom_L: go ahead, you can fill me in
05:55 PM Tom_L: how many are there?
06:31 PM rue_shop3: how many what
06:31 PM rue_shop3: just finished jacking up the house
06:36 PM Tom_L: in the channel
06:38 PM rue_shop3: ah, its got 4 sofar
06:39 PM Tom_L: xxcoder one probably
08:28 PM rue_mohr: yes! I have a scroll wheel again!
08:30 PM Tom_L: :)
08:30 PM Tom_L: what was the problem?
08:30 PM rue_mohr: sensor
08:30 PM rue_mohr: found one in one of those origional microsoft optical mice
09:04 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1210203.jpg
09:04 PM rue_mohr: eprom programmer so far
09:05 PM rue_mohr: ground and 4 sense lines for the personality module
09:05 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1210205.jpg
09:05 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1210206.jpg
09:05 PM rue_mohr: sensor donor for my mouse
09:06 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1210208.jpg
09:06 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1210210.jpg
09:06 PM Tom_L: what was wrong with the house?
09:06 PM rue_mohr: house jacked up 2 inches (again)
09:06 PM Tom_L: is that where the 2 parts meet?
09:06 PM rue_mohr: I dont like how that beam is kinda blowing out, I think its got an internal issue...
09:06 PM rue_mohr: no
09:06 PM Tom_L: iirc it was split somehow
09:07 PM rue_mohr: its a back corner of the house
09:07 PM Tom_L: oh
09:07 PM Tom_L: water above it?
09:07 PM Tom_L: washer etc
09:07 PM rue_mohr: they had water all over the back support
09:07 PM rue_mohr: so the end of the beam rotted out and sank
09:07 PM rue_mohr: into the pillar
09:07 PM Tom_L: i see
09:08 PM rue_mohr: I poured a new little footing and stuck a post under there to cantilever the back end of the house
09:08 PM rue_mohr: the house is REALLY HEAVY
09:08 PM Tom_L: when i did my basement, i had to double up on the floor joist above it due to losing the center support
09:08 PM rue_mohr: I'm gonna guess maybe 5 tons from what it took on the jack
09:08 PM rue_mohr: dunno why its so heavy
09:08 PM Tom_L: so each one has 2 now
09:09 PM rue_mohr: my back door opens/closes ok again
09:09 PM rue_mohr: see how long it lasts
09:09 PM rue_mohr: I'm glad to see the wood form there is in good shape
09:09 PM Tom_L: programmer is taking shape
09:09 PM rue_mohr: slllllooooooowwwwwwlllllllyyyy
09:10 PM Tom_L: mouse bucket looks more like a rat's nest
09:10 PM rue_mohr: yea, buddy was suggesting a bagging party
09:10 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1210211.jpg
09:10 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1210212.jpg
09:11 PM rue_mohr: donor coffee maker for a new element for the tea machine
09:11 PM Tom_L: you've been busy today
09:11 PM rue_mohr: kinda
09:11 PM rue_mohr: didn't get the power supply changed in the computer
09:11 PM rue_mohr: dont want to do it now incase there is a problem, not enough runway
09:11 PM rue_mohr: its my monday alarm
09:12 PM Tom_L: better hope it holds out
09:12 PM Tom_L: i use my phone but usually wake up before it
09:12 PM rue_mohr: its not awefull, it just looks like usb is starting to mess up from power supply noise
09:13 PM rue_mohr: usb problems seem to be an early symptom of power supply problems
09:15 PM Tom_L: as much clay as you have you'd think the house would stay put
09:16 PM rue_mohr: its rotting away, I need to build!
09:34 PM aandrew: https://twitter.com/cctv_idiots/status/1444767954919477263
