12:25 AM rue_shop3: I dislike 0.5mm pitch
12:32 AM rue_shop3: 100 pins confirmed
12:32 AM rue_shop3: no shorts, no opens
12:32 AM rue_shop3: I'm confused about soemthing
12:32 AM rue_shop3: this chip is laser engraved, copyright dell, 1984
12:32 AM rue_shop3: but, its a 100pin flat pack
12:32 AM rue_shop3: cpld
12:32 AM rue_shop3: 1984
12:32 AM rue_shop3: that seems not right
12:32 AM rue_shop3: tech wasn't so far along...
01:30 AM rue_shop2: ok, chip is transferred
02:58 AM rue_shop2: I"m getting a bit better with this
03:07 AM rue_shop2: hmm
03:58 AM rue_shop3: huh, the cpld can only drive to 3.84M
03:58 AM rue_shop3: huh, the cpld can only drive to 3.84V
03:59 AM Tom_L: 3.3 5v tolerant
03:59 AM rue_shop3: no, its 5V but
04:00 AM rue_shop3: it doesn't drive outputs right up to 5 like an avr
04:00 AM Tom_L: iirc they sinc more than they source
04:09 AM Tom_L: are they open collector outputs?
04:09 AM rue_mohr: no I'm playing with 3 state to do an lcd
04:09 AM rue_mohr: 1 sec
04:09 AM rue_mohr: you already slept didnt you?
04:09 AM Tom_L: doesn't feel like it
04:10 AM Tom_L: 3 hrs maybe?
04:10 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1200542.jpg
04:10 AM rue_mohr: see I can be sentry
04:11 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/temp.png
04:11 AM rue_mohr: er
04:11 AM Tom_L: 404
04:12 AM rue_mohr: oops wrong folder
04:12 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/images/temp.png
04:12 AM rue_mohr: it only drives to 3.84
04:18 AM rue_mohr: I'm just gonna try it anyhow
06:15 PM aandrew: Cut down all the cardboard and took it and styrofoam to dump. Cleaned up 75% of the garage. Built a propane fire thing that was
06:15 PM aandrew: That was ordered months ago, then cut down all the flower stalks of the hostas. It’s been a busy busy day
07:21 PM rue_mohr: nice
07:21 PM rue_mohr: so your back home already
07:22 PM rue_mohr: did you remember to re-assemble the tv for the hotel?
07:24 PM aandrew: Yes I set the rooms back
07:27 PM rue_mohr: it could be a nightmare for them otherwise
07:27 PM rue_mohr: lots of people live in a world where nonally do they not know anything about technology, but none of the people they can call on do either
07:29 PM aandrew: Yep. I mean the hotel has maintenance staff who have to service the TVs and such but still, better to put it back
07:29 PM rue_mohr: anyone out here has to call a company
07:30 PM rue_mohr: the company may not want to come and will charge a lot if they do
07:30 PM rue_mohr: I swear sometimes I think its all cave-people
07:31 PM rue_mohr: so, if I use cylinders with metal-ring pistons
07:31 PM rue_mohr: best if they are standard sized pistons of some kind
07:31 PM rue_mohr: I dont think anyone in town knows enough about a pallette of piston rings
07:32 PM rue_mohr: amazon
07:32 PM rue_mohr: ugh
07:32 PM rue_mohr: wait, amazon sells pistons too?
07:35 PM rue_mohr: https://www.amazon.ca/Niome-Engine-Cylinder-Motorized-Bicycle/dp/B0899QDBRM/ref=sr_1_26
07:35 PM rue_mohr: wtf?
07:35 PM rue_mohr: and, where is the oil ring?
07:42 PM rue_mohr: maybe we should have found a 2 stroke
07:42 PM rue_mohr: how would that help
07:42 PM rue_mohr: hmm, actually I think your right, cause i suppose it wouldn't
07:43 PM rue_mohr: well there are a lot of piston rings and thing on amazon, but its not cheap
07:44 PM rue_mohr: and I dont see a size that looks right
07:44 PM rue_mohr: but I can see that we should just make our own ring compressor if we need one
07:45 PM rue_mohr: I dont see any pattern to the sizes
07:53 PM aandrew: Princess auto has a mini bike kit on sale right now. Just add the engine
08:55 PM rue_mohr: hmm
08:56 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: as a native of BC, would you recommend someone drive from Vancouver to Golden this time of year? I hear about forest fires and such
08:57 PM rue_mohr: ooo I'm havn't looked out the window
08:57 PM rue_mohr: I hear lots is on fire
08:58 PM aandrew: Yeah that is the concern
09:01 PM rue_mohr: ok, throw me an imugr link, I overrode the user agent string
09:01 PM rue_mohr: general.useragent.override
09:03 PM rue_mohr: hmm I dont think it worked
09:03 PM rue_mohr: I'll try it for a while and see if anything else seems different
09:04 PM aandrew: Kamloops is apparently being evacuated and there’s an out of control fire in Golden which is pretty close to Field, the destination
09:04 PM aandrew: Looking at the GIS site for BC
09:04 PM rue_mohr: "I cant come for the service call, by the time I get there it will have all burned down"
09:06 PM rue_mohr: ah wait
09:06 PM aandrew: There’s a fire about 300km north of you
09:06 PM rue_mohr: there are a lot of helicopters buzzing around
09:06 PM rue_mohr: it just poured rain last night
09:07 PM aandrew: But it seems all of eastern BC from Kamloops area to southeast is burning
09:07 PM rue_mohr: whats the file that has the manual ip:dns entries....
09:07 PM rue_mohr: pulling a blank
09:07 PM rue_mohr: resolv.conf
09:07 PM rue_mohr: no
09:07 PM rue_mohr: hosts
09:09 PM rue_mohr: no, I have no idea why imugr wont work
09:09 PM rue_mohr: but I want to grasp this lcd thing
09:09 PM rue_mohr: I'm not sure why, its bothering me tho
09:10 PM aandrew: Yes /etc/hosts
09:10 PM rue_mohr: two things about it are hurting my brain
09:11 PM rue_mohr: yea, no idea on the imugr thing
09:11 PM rue_mohr: I didn't do a dns redirect
09:11 PM rue_mohr: and I just changed my user agent, so they cant be rejecting based on that
09:12 PM rue_mohr: one thing with the lcd is the multi voltage thing
09:12 PM rue_mohr: the other is the horrid grid the segments are based on
09:12 PM rue_mohr: 2x4
09:13 PM aandrew: So weird, is it Firefox on any OS?
09:14 PM Tom_L: pretty much
09:14 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, why multi-voltage?
09:14 PM rue_mohr: yea firefox
09:15 PM rue_mohr: I dont want to update it cause the layout of the ui in the new versions sucks
09:15 PM rue_mohr: 52.9.0 (32-bit)
09:15 PM rue_mohr: oh, and I'm running 32 bit anyhow
09:15 PM rue_mohr: which is currently supported by just about nothing
09:15 PM Tom_L: got my i5 installed
09:15 PM rue_mohr: hows it behaving?
09:15 PM Tom_L: i don't think it seated the first time
09:16 PM Tom_L: nothing happened
09:16 PM rue_mohr: hmm
09:16 PM rue_mohr: did it live?
09:16 PM aandrew: So are there really no roads north of you that take you through the mountains and south?
09:16 PM Tom_L: so i put the i7 back in because i was worried it was a bad chip
09:16 PM rue_mohr: nothing here that you cant get to from whistler
09:16 PM Tom_L: finally got it back up so i swapped out for the i5 again being careful it was seated and it finally came up
09:17 PM Tom_L: had to reset the bios for it
09:17 PM rue_mohr: there was some fun it town, the only stationary shop shut down for a week and nobody seems to have known
09:17 PM aandrew: Do you can get to 99 without ferries and stuff?
09:17 PM rue_mohr: hah
09:17 PM rue_mohr: there is rumored to be a 4x4 trail, but nobdy I know has ever taken it
09:17 PM Tom_L: heh
09:18 PM aandrew: I’m just following around in Google maps, it definitely looks like a crazy zigzag lightest gray road I’ve ever seen in maps
09:19 PM Tom_L: you ever re'used that silver paste on heatsinks?
09:19 PM rue_mohr: no just white
09:19 PM Tom_L: this had silver
09:19 PM Tom_L: i had a small tube of it somewhere
09:20 PM rue_mohr: mind the conductive stuff
09:20 PM Tom_L: most of it was still on the heatsink so i think it'll be ok
09:21 PM Tom_L: if i were running 100% utilization i might worry more about it
09:21 PM aandrew: At Benshaw they just used EJC for heatsink compound, never an issue in thousands of devices
09:21 PM Tom_L: what is EJC?
09:22 PM rue_shop1: yea?
09:22 PM Tom_L: electrical joint compound
09:22 PM rue_shop1: hu?
09:22 PM rue_shop1: not deox
09:22 PM aandrew: Electrical Joint Compound, meant to goop up power wire before it is inserted into a crimped connector
09:22 PM Tom_L: i bet for aluminum wire
09:23 PM rue_shop1: oh hmm
09:23 PM aandrew: Nope we only used copper
09:23 PM rue_shop1: thats different stuff
09:23 PM Wings: I use alumina based silicone free stuff for almost everything.
09:23 PM Tom_L: i had one i got once that still had the plastic cover over the heatsink goop when i took it apart
09:23 PM Wings: Silicone based is fine too. Just different consistency, compatibility, etc.
09:23 PM Tom_L: it was brown but never failed
09:23 PM aandrew: The heatsink surface was milled flat then the SCR clamped to it
09:24 PM Wings: you can also get beryllia compound, but that's not so safe if it ever gets airborne.
09:24 PM Wings: Highly effective though.
09:25 PM Tom_L: beryllium?
09:25 PM Wings: Alumina and beryllia are the oxides of aluminum and beryllium, respectively.
09:25 PM aandrew: http://graycocontrols.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/MineRatedStarter1.jpg
09:26 PM aandrew: The white cylinders between the heat sinks are the SCRs
09:26 PM Wings: Yeah, typical puck stuff.
09:26 PM aandrew: Yep
09:31 PM rue_mohr: maybe whats confusing my on the lcd thing is WHY a 3 level voltage is being used
09:32 PM rue_mohr: if I gridded it all out, I'm sure I'd see the muxing isn't otherwise possible
09:32 PM rue_mohr: but it appears the little lcd I have has a really low votlage thing going on
09:33 PM rue_mohr: cool,
11:58 PM rue_mohr: I got it
