12:35 AM rue_mohr: hahah I still cant add an output to that cpld design without it not fitting
12:42 AM rue_mohr: I had to remove the indicator output to make the relay output work
12:54 AM rue_mohr: omg, how many days has the freenode tab been looping about not having an auth ticket?
04:18 AM polprog: W1ngs: they have a dir and s#/s pins though
04:18 AM polprog: i like them. clearly they are modules, the silkscreen font and style is different
09:46 AM polprog: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1200495.jpg
09:46 AM polprog: whats that relay for?
11:02 AM Tom_L: is that his watering timer?
01:07 PM W1ngs: polprog: So you are saying that stepper motors are the only reversible motors? hehe
01:08 PM W1ngs: These are brushless DC motors for the record.
01:08 PM W1ngs: The S pin is not for stepping.
01:09 PM rue_mohr: watering pump
01:09 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, yes
01:23 PM W1ngs: polprog: It should be like this: 1-LOCK-OUTPUT-"SPEED LOCK STATUS INDICATOR" 2-HU-OUTPUT-"BUFFERED U PHASE HALL SENSOR SIGNAL" 3-CLK-INPUT-"CLOCK REFERENCE SIGNAL" 4-SGND-GND-"SYSTEM GROUND" 5-+24V-PWR-"24 POWER SUPPLY" 6-!CW/CCW-INPUT-"DIRECTION CONTROL LOGIC" 7-+5V-PWR-"5V POWER SUPPLY" 8-!S/S-INPUT-"START/STOP CONTROL LOGIC"
01:24 PM W1ngs: I formatted it all as "pin number" - "pin name" - "signal type" - ""description""
01:32 PM polprog: ahh
01:33 PM W1ngs: They're really nice units, especially being PLL speed controlled from an arbitrary clock.
01:33 PM W1ngs: And the lock indicator output is useful.
01:33 PM W1ngs: I think some of them have torque control, but most are just constant speed.
02:31 PM rue_shop2: remember not to tell them to stop hard or they will burn out the drivers
02:31 PM rue_shop2: even a slower stop can burn them out if there is no supply voltage clamping
02:32 PM rue_shop2: I'v only burned out two
04:03 PM W1ngs: Depends on the chip.
04:03 PM W1ngs: Most of them inherently stop as fast as is safe since there is no way to tell them to stop harder or softer... just "stop"
04:07 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, curious how well that cast aluminum machined
04:17 PM rue_shop3: it chiped good
04:18 PM rue_shop3: I was really dissapointed in the number of bubbles in it tho
04:18 PM rue_shop3: I have to degass better
04:18 PM * W1ngs farts
04:18 PM rue_shop3: I think I'd runout of the stuff I use for degassing
04:18 PM Tom_L: what do you use?
04:18 PM rue_shop3: sodium free salt
04:19 PM Tom_L: impurities cause that?
04:20 PM Tom_L: you don't get that on the triggers do you?
04:35 PM rue_shop3: no
04:35 PM rue_shop3: but
04:35 PM rue_shop3: just reading, nobody seems to ahve any clear answers on degassing
04:35 PM rue_shop3: regarding anything about it
04:36 PM rue_shop3: most of the time I dont see an issue with the castings
04:47 PM W1ngs: If it's dissolved hydrogen, you can bubble nitrogen through to clear it.
05:10 PM Tom_L: https://www.moderncasting.com/articles/2015/08/15/aluminum-degassing-methods-measurements
05:12 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fpzNK3d0rs
05:12 PM Tom_L: looks promising
05:13 PM Tom_L: push it to the bottom
05:23 PM W1ngs: Can also let the casting set in a high pressure environment to shrink the bubbles.... but that is a pain.
08:04 PM rue_shop2: lots of visitors today
08:05 PM rue_shop2: W1ngs, how about 79% nitrogen
08:05 PM rue_shop2: oh the clorine puck?
08:08 PM rue_shop2: sodium carbonate
08:08 PM rue_shop2: ok, thats all I wnated to know
10:34 PM rue_mohr: ok well
10:34 PM rue_mohr: bit of a waste of a day
10:34 PM rue_mohr: and tommorow I get dropped back into a pit of problems
10:35 PM rue_mohr: which are all different now that I'v been gone a week
10:36 PM rue_mohr: I'm gonna see if I can find a soic based smps solution for the bga cpld board 5V -> 3.3V power thing
10:52 PM rue_shop2: I have 45 minutes left to life
10:52 PM rue_shop2: live
10:53 PM rue_shop2: print 3d print will finish in 56 mins
10:57 PM Tom_L: it will outlive you
10:58 PM Tom_L: and if all you have is 45 that means i'm up too late
11:02 PM rue_mohr: so, I better deal with things like putting the blankets in the dryer..
