12:10 AM Tom_L: what a pita
12:25 AM aandrew: wow, aliexpress checkout got a LOT more streamlined
12:27 AM rue_mohr: just recently?
01:14 AM Tom_L: ok, i think it's ready
01:14 AM Tom_L: won't know til i run it later today
01:15 AM rue_mohr: your at today already?
01:15 AM Tom_L: 1:01
10:53 AM aandrew: man
10:53 AM aandrew: this printer is working so nicely lately
10:54 AM aandrew: I want to add dual extruder (for support material mostly) but think it's a better idea to spend $500 on an entirely new dual-extruder printer (geeetech a10m) than monkey with this one and end up with a printer that I can't get back to this state
10:56 AM aandrew: the a10m is basically another ender3 which is good because most of the parts are the same and the basic tech is transferrable. it's the devil I know
11:08 AM Tom_L: ok broke 1 cutter so far
11:10 AM aandrew: I need to get started on that little 3018 mill. I want to start making some plastic mess with it soon
11:57 AM Tom_L: mmm, i _think_ the program is ok now but i have to redo the whole setup again
11:58 AM Tom_L: (it's one of those things you walk away from for quite a while)
12:02 PM aandrew: that sucks, was it an expensive cutter?
12:06 PM Tom_L: it was a good one
12:06 PM aandrew: oh yeah, that's definitely time to go for a walk and contemplate goat herding or something for a little while
12:09 PM Tom_L: it fucked up the whole setup too though so i gotta start from square one on that
12:10 PM Tom_L: it may have been a pc glitch because it seems ok now but i still gotta reset everything
12:11 PM Tom_L: i wasn't sure at first because i was still proving this new program out
12:13 PM Tom_L: so i'm using a cheap cutter until it's working smooth
12:13 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, btw, the curve is round now
12:14 PM Tom_L: inside and out
12:14 PM aandrew: "fucked up the whole setup" -- meaning the workpiece is ruined, or more than that?
12:16 PM Tom_L: it moved the sacrificial plate in the vise so i need to put that back in, mill it flat again, set x y zero again and all the z heights on the tools
12:17 PM Tom_L: the workpiece is scrap but i don't care about that
12:17 PM Tom_L: it was sacrificial anyway as i was proving the new program
12:27 PM aandrew: sure
12:28 PM aandrew: is there a way to measure the side load on the end mill and "e-stop" if it exceeds a threshold?
12:51 PM rue_bed: Tom_L, oh no, what broke a cutter!
12:52 PM rue_bed: oof, it moved the plate! thats a hard crash, z error?
12:53 PM rue_bed: :S
12:53 PM rue_bed: gonna see what I can get done on the 4x8 today
01:00 PM Tom_L: almost ready to re'run .. lunch break
01:40 PM rue_mohr: oook , I have to go shopping maybe later today
01:40 PM rue_mohr: I need a steampowered truck
02:13 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr,
02:16 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/A9_A10_revA1.jpg
02:16 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/A9_A10_revA2.jpg
02:16 PM Tom_L: setup part
02:17 PM Tom_L: you can see the gouge in the step. it could be used for setup or whatever
02:17 PM Tom_L: step is .035"
02:19 PM Tom_L: that material is a little softer than the first one i did and they have plenty: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/local_stock/10.jpg
02:27 PM Tom_L: if you ran with coolant, you would get clean edges like that
02:27 PM Tom_L: well, those ^^ were after the debur tool
02:38 PM rue_mohr: hah wow
02:38 PM rue_mohr: we dont have a real store like that
03:01 PM rue_shop7: Tom_L, weather still cool over there or did it start heating up yet?
03:09 PM rue_shop7: oo that was close
03:09 PM rue_shop7: jogged with the bit too low
03:55 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/final/A9_cutout1.jpg
03:55 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/final/A9_cutout2.jpg
03:55 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/final/A9_final1.jpg
03:55 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/final/A9_final2.jpg
03:56 PM Tom_L: that top one is that setup part
03:57 PM Tom_L: still fairly mild here
04:04 PM rue_mohr: that looks smoother!
04:05 PM rue_mohr: cool
04:10 PM Tom_L: you want the other ones too?
04:10 PM Tom_L: a sander will fix the visible edge
04:11 PM Tom_L: just proves my point. old software is better than new
04:11 PM Tom_L: oh
04:12 PM Tom_L: shaved a min off the cycle time too: 10:45 with tool changes
04:20 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/final/A9_A12_assy.jpg
04:20 PM Tom_L: :)
04:35 PM rue_mohr: hah
04:35 PM rue_mohr: 10 minutes is 3 minutes shorter than 13 minutes
04:36 PM rue_mohr: hold onto a set for sure there tom, I can round you up some of the other peices and send them over!
04:36 PM rue_mohr: do you have a bit of 1/2" thick plate?
04:36 PM rue_mohr: about twice as long as those tabs stick out?
04:36 PM rue_mohr: gettin warm today
04:36 PM rue_mohr: oof
04:37 PM rue_mohr: got a bunch of welding done up
04:47 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1200131.jpg
04:47 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1200132.jpg
04:47 PM rue_mohr: fixed the pruner handles and did up more on the Z axis
05:24 PM Tom_L: 1/2" plate for what?
05:31 PM Tom_L: heh, i'll ship these as bottle cap openers
05:56 PM rue_shop7: I suspect the poly ones will be usable
05:56 PM rue_shop7: we can try assembling and see!
05:56 PM rue_shop7: bleck, welding in the heat
05:56 PM rue_shop7: still making progress on the Z axis
05:56 PM Tom_L: cool
05:57 PM Tom_L: what's the plate for?
05:57 PM rue_shop7: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1200132.jpg
05:57 PM rue_shop7: the 1/2" plate would be for a bending jig if you want to make one up
05:57 PM Tom_L: oh
05:57 PM rue_shop7: its two pins set into the edge of the plate
05:57 PM Tom_L: naw i got no trees to spray :)
05:57 PM rue_shop7: hah
05:58 PM rue_shop7: I just have to keep working on it, I'll get to you eventually
05:58 PM Tom_L: i probaby have some though
05:59 PM Tom_L: i think i marked the one that was different material
06:00 PM Tom_L: i should take the spot drill and run a scribe mark across them for a cut line
06:00 PM Tom_L: he probably wouldn't follow it anyway
06:01 PM rue_shop7: its not too hard to line up on the bandsaw
06:04 PM Tom_L: what's under the slide on the tubes?
06:05 PM Tom_L: you got a good ballscrew there too ehh?
06:05 PM Tom_L: why not use that?
06:28 PM rue_mohr: because if it fails I cant get replacement parts for months
06:28 PM rue_mohr: and lots of dollars
06:28 PM rue_mohr: and machine time
06:28 PM rue_mohr: the threaded rod I can fix up fast if I have to
06:28 PM rue_mohr: the tubes are solid bars
06:29 PM rue_mohr: there are just retainer plates under them
06:29 PM rue_mohr: the top side on the image is a 3 point grab, the bottom is just a 2 point with horiz compliance
06:30 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1200134.jpg
06:30 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1200136.jpg
06:30 PM rue_mohr: there is a quick mockup, but I wish it weren't comming out so heavy
06:32 PM rue_mohr: I need a plate to go right across the 3d printed bracket
06:32 PM rue_mohr: or is likley to split
06:33 PM rue_mohr: I have to check that I left tramming room everywhere too
06:33 PM rue_mohr: its a shim-tram design
06:38 PM rue_mohr: so Tom_L do you have a showcase of cnc stuff?
06:47 PM Tom_L: heh i dunno
06:48 PM Tom_L: most of the stuff here is on the site
06:49 PM rue_mohr: the 115k baud converters worked really well doing that last pcb
06:49 PM Tom_L: oh did you ever get your purple boards?
06:49 PM rue_mohr: not yet
06:49 PM rue_mohr: I think its going to come out good tho
06:49 PM rue_mohr: I was going to try a BGA next, but that seems to be a few steps up
06:50 PM Tom_L: do a leadless one first
06:51 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/atmega32u4/atmega32u4_1.jpg
06:51 PM Tom_L: i even forgot what that package is called now
06:51 PM rue_mohr: LGA?
06:51 PM Tom_L: no
06:54 PM Tom_L: qfn?
06:54 PM Tom_L: i don't remember
06:55 PM rue_mohr: n for no-pins ....
06:55 PM rue_mohr: quad
06:55 PM rue_mohr: flat
06:55 PM Tom_L: yeah qfn
06:55 PM Tom_L: https://www.engineersgarage.com/ic-packages-types/
06:55 PM Tom_L: near the bottom
06:55 PM Tom_L: quad flat nonlead
06:55 PM rue_mohr: hey hey
06:59 PM Tom_L: with an iron
07:00 PM Tom_L: i wonder if i dare put those in a padded envelope
07:02 PM rue_mohr: the sharp edges can give things quite a working
07:05 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc6/slide.htm
07:05 PM rue_mohr: looking over the slideshow there is a LOT of ground to cover when building up a machine from scratch
07:06 PM rue_mohr: I wish plywood didn't go to crazy prices
07:06 PM rue_mohr: I need a sheet for the bed of it
07:06 PM rue_mohr: and some to like make stuff from
07:09 PM rue_mohr: kinda wonder if I should have fixed it to the gantry and run the whole bridge up and down for Z
07:10 PM Tom_L: i'll wrap em up in card stock, they'll be fine
07:10 PM rue_mohr: yep
07:10 PM rue_mohr: cool
07:10 PM rue_mohr: shall I fwd ya $20 for shipping?
07:10 PM Tom_L: i think i got 10
07:10 PM Tom_L: and the A12 stuff
07:11 PM Tom_L: lemme see what it is first
07:11 PM Tom_L: won't be able to til tues
07:11 PM Tom_L: maybe monday? i dunno if the post is taking off monday
07:11 PM rue_mohr: no hurry,
07:11 PM rue_mohr: were not short on stock for any new orders
07:11 PM rue_mohr: as long as their not insane
07:12 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if I can line up those holes with a pen laser...
07:13 PM rue_mohr: Y is going to be a really laboured axis
07:14 PM Tom_L: takes alot of thought to get one right
07:14 PM rue_mohr: this one isn't meant to be high precision
07:14 PM rue_mohr: just big
07:14 PM rue_mohr: 0.1"
07:14 PM rue_mohr: er
07:14 PM rue_mohr: haha
07:14 PM rue_mohr: 0.1mm
07:15 PM rue_mohr: 4 thou
07:15 PM Tom_L: what stuff do you plan to make with it?
07:15 PM rue_mohr: the wiggle and jiggle will make it worse from there
07:15 PM rue_mohr: its for plastic/wood
07:16 PM rue_mohr: I might try some aluminum, but I doubt there is much point
07:27 PM Tom_L: hah
07:28 PM Tom_L: i bet that'll make it
07:40 PM Tom_L: bottle opener parts ready for the north country
07:50 PM Tom_L: i should import A8 that same way and see if it comes out better
08:00 PM Tom_L: i bet it is better because it's all lines and arcs
08:10 PM Tom_L: that was too easy
08:12 PM Tom_L: hah that was a 6mm hole
08:13 PM Tom_L: and 1mm
09:08 PM rue_shop2: hmm, so, I need to ponder the cnc for a bit
09:08 PM rue_shop2: the z axis is comming out awefull heavy
09:08 PM Tom_L: yeah plus the motor
09:09 PM Tom_L: i did 3:1 on mine but i don't think i needed to
09:09 PM rue_shop2: the z motor on this can be 5:1
09:09 PM Tom_L: got a pulley set for 3:1 and 2:1 iirc
09:09 PM rue_shop2: I can use a 10krpm motor for z
09:09 PM rue_shop2: the router is direct, which I'm concerned about
09:10 PM Tom_L: you may need more than 5
09:10 PM rue_shop2: I can change the router later if I need to
09:10 PM rue_shop2: on that threaded rod 2k will yeild a fine movement rate
09:10 PM Tom_L: you want torque on Z
09:11 PM rue_shop2: its 5/16 threaded rod
09:11 PM Tom_L: 20 tpi
09:12 PM rue_shop2: if I can get it working it can machine better parts for itself
09:14 PM rue_shop2: polprog, you got all quiet, no project time?
11:06 PM polprog: rue_shop2: yeah, its crazy down here :(
11:06 PM polprog: hoping I can do the butler today
11:15 PM rue_shop7: http://ieee-uffc.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/vigfig13.gif
11:16 PM rue_shop7: which was the last one you did?
11:36 PM aandrew: Wow I’ve never had a tweet that has so much traction and it’s just an inane comment about blockchain bros
11:36 PM aandrew: Maybe I should branch into comedy
