10:57 AM Tom_L: so i found some 4" wide material i think will work but i think it's only .120" thick
11:04 AM Tom_L: pretty sure it will do the trick anyway
11:04 AM Tom_L: i grabbed 6' to try
11:04 AM Tom_L: that calculates to $4.13/lb
11:04 AM Tom_L: can get 16 parts from it
11:07 AM Tom_L: so 32 from a full 12' piece (gotta cut it in half to haul though)
01:44 PM Tom_L: that cost is with a cut and tax
01:45 PM Tom_L: they're getting $3.50/lb in small quantities
02:49 PM Tom_L: this material seems a bit softer, we'll see
04:01 PM Tom_L: i got the lip to .040"
05:14 PM Tom_itx: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZg2FFiNhZQ
05:14 PM Tom_itx: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lenorIC1dlo
05:18 PM Tom_L: last one is crap quality
05:18 PM Tom_L: video that is
07:03 PM rue_mohr: hi
07:05 PM rue_mohr: wow
07:10 PM Tom_L: movin right along ehh?
07:11 PM rue_mohr: are those coated bits?
07:11 PM Tom_L: the big one is
07:13 PM rue_mohr: do you think the old sherline motor has enough power to do that?
07:13 PM Tom_L: it would get hot
07:14 PM Tom_L: brb
07:14 PM rue_mohr: hmm, the problems I had trying to speed up our setup was related to bit heat and the aluminum sticking to the bit and clogging it, then it breaking off
07:53 PM Tom_L: you need coolant then
07:55 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/A9_A10_batch.jpg
07:57 PM Tom_L: that should be enough to test
08:02 PM rue_shop7: hahah yes
08:02 PM rue_shop7: dont know why your pogram doesn't import arcs right tho
08:03 PM rue_shop7: oh welding thats what I was supposed to do next
08:04 PM Tom_L: it brings surfaces in as polylines
08:06 PM Tom_L: if you give me that arc size i can fix that
08:06 PM Tom_L: probably not the inside but that outter ring i can
08:09 PM rue_mohr: on one of these computers I have it open
08:09 PM rue_mohr: there should be a resoution option
08:10 PM Tom_L: it goes from dxf to catia to my cad cam
08:10 PM rue_mohr: your catia stuff is fine
08:10 PM rue_mohr: so its just the import for some reason
08:10 PM Tom_L: i'm not gonna import it again i'll just fix it
08:10 PM rue_mohr: yea
08:11 PM Tom_L: i just need some numbers
08:11 PM rue_mohr: I just dont know why it uses such a low-poly default
08:11 PM rue_mohr: its not on this computer I'll try the other one when I 'm back in the shop
08:11 PM Tom_L: i dunno, i didn't look at them i just did the import
08:13 PM Tom_L: i'll import a new file and check the settings
08:15 PM Tom_L: really no settings on import
08:16 PM Tom_L: i bet it's how catia exports it
08:16 PM Tom_L: i tried a couple different ways and it made no difference
08:50 PM rue_mohr: damnit someone took the 2lbs of isomalt that were in my cupboard
08:51 PM Tom_L: nothing i do fixes the curves
08:51 PM Tom_L: i was trying to do it in solidworks but i don't know how
08:51 PM rue_mohr: I think by solidworks its already been polygoned
08:51 PM rue_mohr: thats $35 in isomalt
08:52 PM Tom_L: no not yet
08:52 PM rue_mohr: it was for my 3d printer
08:52 PM rue_mohr: ooo makes me angry
08:53 PM Tom_L: part of the drawing comes in on the wrong layer and i don't know how to move it in solidworks
08:56 PM rue_shop7: I think you can dleete all but layer 1
08:56 PM rue_shop7: or 0
08:57 PM rue_shop2: I'm all pissed cause people keep taking my stuff without even asking me
08:57 PM rue_shop2: "this is why I cant have nice things"
08:57 PM rue_shop2: sometimes they break them for me
08:57 PM rue_shop2: oh I closed the drawing I think
08:58 PM Tom_L: this software is old that's half the problem
08:59 PM rue_shop2: 24.4123mm is the radius of the outside of A10
08:59 PM rue_shop2: na, they are taking curves and intentionally making them into polygons, there is a setting somewhere as to how many sides/360 degrees they use, and its not set that high
09:00 PM Tom_L: not in my software
09:00 PM rue_shop2: the radius of the inside bits is 15mm
09:00 PM Tom_L: i found no settings
09:00 PM rue_shop2: whatever opens the dxf I think is at fault
09:00 PM rue_shop2: the dxf is infinite curves
09:00 PM Tom_L: no it looks fine there
09:00 PM rue_shop2: maybe its in how it exports it
09:01 PM Tom_L: i wasn't able to find any settings for that
09:01 PM rue_shop2: I get all these supplies so I have them when I need them, and when I do, I find out someone else has messed me all up
09:01 PM rue_shop2: I dont want to be angry at everyone, I just want the damn stuff I got when I go to use it
09:02 PM rue_shop2: ma is often a culprit
09:02 PM rue_shop2: nonally can she not remember whats hers, she doesn't distinguish ownership borders
09:03 PM rue_shop2: I dont know how not to get angry
09:03 PM rue_shop2: esp when its costing lots of money
09:04 PM rue_shop2: luckily I dont need the isomalt right now, its for a project still in the works
09:04 PM rue_shop2: but I was really excited about having it ready to go
09:05 PM Tom_L: lock it up?
09:05 PM rue_shop2: yea I'm having to lock EVERYTHING up
09:06 PM rue_shop2: from friends and family
09:08 PM Tom_L: let me show you something
09:12 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/curve_sh3.jpg
09:12 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/curve_sh4.jpg
09:12 PM Tom_L: compare those 2 images
09:12 PM Tom_L: lemme change color so you can see it better
09:15 PM Tom_L: now take a look at those side by side
09:15 PM Tom_L: that pisses me off to no end
09:20 PM Tom_L: i'll have to rewrite the whole program
09:20 PM Tom_L: but i can fix it
09:27 PM Tom_L: you want these or should i toss them?
09:27 PM Tom_L: i'm gonna rewrite this
09:48 PM aandrew: rue_shop2: heh I have the same type of issue, except my gremlins are two little boys
09:48 PM aandrew: actually not so little, 12 and the other is turning 9 tomorrow
10:12 PM Tom_L: double that for mine
10:12 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, whats the difference?
10:12 PM Tom_L: you can't see it?
10:12 PM Tom_L: look close
10:12 PM rue_mohr: "after element" ???
10:12 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/curve_sh3.jpg
10:12 PM Tom_L: those are arcs
10:12 PM rue_mohr: yea
10:13 PM rue_mohr: what did what?
10:13 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/curve_sh4.jpg
10:13 PM Tom_L: those are not
10:13 PM rue_mohr: yea, what changed?
10:13 PM Tom_L: i imported it using an older version of my cad cam that didn't support surfaces yet
10:13 PM Tom_L: so it brought it in like it should
10:14 PM Tom_L: that's why i keep them _all_ installed
10:14 PM Tom_L: well actually it's just a different iges import utility it has
10:15 PM rue_mohr: hmm
10:15 PM Tom_L: so i've got the profiles i need from it and i'm gonna lay them on top of the one i already did
10:15 PM rue_mohr: important to know if it ever comes up later
10:15 PM Tom_L: then delete the old paths and regenerate them
10:15 PM Tom_L: yeah you might have to remind me
10:15 PM rue_mohr: so its the smartcam version that makes the difference
10:16 PM Tom_L: that A12 is probably the same way
10:16 PM Tom_L: it's just too small to notice
10:16 PM rue_mohr: didn't catch any on that one
10:16 PM Tom_L: yes it's the smartcam version
10:16 PM Tom_L: but then i can save it under the new version and it stays as arcs
10:16 PM rue_mohr: so, you cant bring it into catia as a drawing? (the dxf)
10:16 PM rue_mohr: huh
10:16 PM Tom_L: yes
10:17 PM Tom_L: then i elevate it and export it as a solid
10:17 PM rue_mohr: k
10:17 PM Tom_L: so i can take your flat file and make a part from it in catia then export that
10:17 PM rue_mohr: but couldn't you do that right in catia?
10:17 PM rue_mohr: oh
10:17 PM rue_mohr: dxf->catia->smartcam
10:17 PM rue_mohr: ?
10:18 PM Tom_L: dxf->catia->old-smartcam-new-smartcam
10:18 PM Tom_L: so i'm redoing the program
10:18 PM Tom_L: drills are fine
10:19 PM Tom_L: that rectangle is fine because i redrew it as lines and arcs
10:19 PM Tom_L: just the profile and pocket
10:19 PM Tom_L: i'll run one tomorrow
10:30 PM rue_shop7: Tom_L, IF your interested, I have a really simple fire key you can sell for $15 ea
10:30 PM rue_shop7: easy
10:30 PM rue_shop7: I need to dxf myself one
10:31 PM Tom_L: fire key?
10:38 PM aandrew: and the other stuff at the right is another amplifier that inverts, offsets and amplifies the signal from the first one a bit more
10:38 PM aandrew: oops
10:39 PM aandrew: showing my 20yo son what I'm up to
10:39 PM rue_shop7: yea, its a generic edwards stage 2 pullstation key
10:39 PM rue_shop7: they go for $20 ea
10:39 PM rue_shop7: in volume
10:40 PM rue_shop7: aandrew, :)
10:43 PM aandrew: he likes to text me when he's drunk
