04:34 AM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/A9-A10-new.jpg
04:34 AM Tom_L: ok rue_mohr, how thick is the lip for the can?
04:34 AM Tom_L: .0625" ?
04:35 AM Tom_L: are those points at the bottom inside supposed to be there?
04:37 AM Tom_L: that was easy to import btw
04:37 AM Tom_L: i may need to scale it once it's in my cad cam though
04:53 AM Tom_L: looks like scaling is ok
08:22 AM rue_mohr: that thin bit is 0.95mm
08:22 AM rue_mohr: yes, we added teeth
08:23 AM rue_mohr: I just did a run, we have 23 A9/10 already
09:45 AM rue_mohr: Tom_L, you awake?
11:16 AM Tom_L: of course i'm awake!
11:18 AM Tom_L: i'll cad it up in the next couple days and run a couple
11:18 AM Tom_L: probably send you a couple before i run a batch
11:19 AM Tom_L: how critical are the radius?
11:47 AM rue_shop3: heh, which radius?
11:47 AM rue_shop3: the rectangular slot were using 1/8" and getting away with it, by a thin margin
11:47 AM rue_shop3: shall I send you some 1/8" bits?
12:28 PM aandrew: hm interesting
12:29 PM aandrew: going from a 1M/220pF feedback network to a 1M/6.8pF feedback network *lowered* the gain substantially
12:29 PM aandrew: I would have expected teh opposite, as the Xc of that 6.8pF would not become dominant until much higher frequency compared to the 220pF
12:30 PM aandrew: but after re-tuning things, it looks like my new gain is 3.3M/2.2pF and then adjusting the DC offset in the secondary amp a little
12:31 PM aandrew: the photodiode is only putting out about 620uA of current under full illumination in this specific application
12:31 PM aandrew: and my recovery time is now ~20us which is still pretty zippy
01:30 PM rue_shop3: hmm
01:34 PM Tom_L: just wondering how critical any of the radius are
01:34 PM Tom_L: like at the bend etc
01:34 PM Tom_L: i'm gonna use a .187 cutter but i can clean the corners up with a .125 or .0625 cutter
01:35 PM Tom_L: no i have plenty of cutters
01:36 PM Tom_L: i just like using the biggest i can for efficiency and they don't break as easy
01:36 PM Tom_L: so .125 on most of the radius should be ok?
01:40 PM rue_shop3: remember the photo
01:41 PM rue_shop3: were using a 1/8" bit in a "best fit" NC job
01:41 PM rue_shop3: want to take the nc file and run it thru the simulator>
01:41 PM rue_shop3: ?
01:41 PM Tom_L: i'll clean up the 'tight' corners with a .125 bit
01:41 PM Tom_L: no need
01:41 PM rue_shop3: http://ruemohr.org/%7Eircjunk/tempimage/p1200125.jpg
01:42 PM rue_shop3: remember that photo?
01:42 PM rue_shop3: thats with a 1/8" bit
01:42 PM rue_shop3: you can see the glaring difference that had me concufsed about which file was right
01:43 PM Tom_L: i'm gonna mill out both pockets so i don't have to worry with tabs on the inside
01:43 PM Tom_L: last pass i may put a clamp on the T and mill off the tabs so it looks better
01:44 PM Tom_L: you serious about wanting a bunch of em?
01:45 PM rue_shop3: well, the 1/4" and 5/16" stuff
01:45 PM Tom_L: what about these?
01:45 PM rue_shop3: the other fellow is here finishing up some triggers
01:45 PM rue_shop3: I just did a batch of 23ish
01:45 PM Tom_L: oh the cast part?
01:45 PM rue_shop3: which is probably enough for a year :)
01:45 PM rue_shop3: yea
01:45 PM Tom_L: i got ~20ish A12
01:45 PM rue_shop3: he's just cleaning some up
01:45 PM rue_shop3: hah
01:46 PM rue_shop3: we were going over $ numbers yesterday
01:46 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A12_New/A12_batch2.jpg
01:46 PM Tom_L: those turned out nice
01:46 PM rue_shop3: were curious if it would be worth your time and shipping etc etc etc
01:47 PM rue_shop3: yea, I was showing him, they look great
01:47 PM Tom_L: i'm not worried about the time, just material and shipping
01:47 PM rue_shop3: yea
01:47 PM rue_shop3: it looks like material here is about $15/kg
01:47 PM rue_shop3: bit more, less than $16
01:48 PM Tom_L: i dunno what it is here, i just get some when i need it
01:48 PM rue_shop3: shipping is anyones guess, but yea
01:48 PM rue_shop3: :)
01:48 PM Tom_L: i have some material but it's kinda tarnished on the top & bottom
01:48 PM Tom_L: i thought i had a pic
01:49 PM rue_shop3 is now known as sean
01:49 PM Tom_L: the other thing is, does it matter if it's tempered material?
01:49 PM Tom_L: for the bend
01:49 PM sean is now known as seanofElphinston
01:50 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/A9_sheet.jpg
01:52 PM seanofElphinston: curious to try some tempered, and if an insert for the "teeth" would work out.
01:52 PM rue_shop2: I could show you specs for the bending jig if you want to make one up on your end
01:52 PM Tom_L: most of it around here is tempered, we build aircraft
01:53 PM Tom_L: i'll just send a couple and you can try em
01:53 PM Tom_L: before i do very many
01:54 PM seanofElphinston: great thanks, send some.
01:55 PM Tom_L: i'll send em along with those A12 when i get em ready
01:58 PM rue_shop2: sean says the other latches were working out good
01:59 PM Tom_L: oh did i send some already?
01:59 PM rue_shop2: yes, you did them with the milling bit
01:59 PM Tom_L: these look better
01:59 PM rue_shop2: I think to test your other jig
02:01 PM Tom_L: once i finish payroll, i'll sit down and work on the cad file
02:03 PM seanofElphinston: Another 20 A12 is worth it for us here, please and thank you.
02:04 PM Tom_L: i've got gobs of material, that's just all i cut up for this new setup
02:06 PM rue_shop2: :)
02:10 PM Tom_L: you think that sheet is ok or should i hunt for some cleaner stuff?
02:10 PM Tom_L: it will clean up, it was just sitting outside
02:10 PM rue_shop2: which?
02:11 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/A9_sheet.jpg
02:11 PM Tom_L: .125
02:11 PM rue_shop2: that looks fine
02:12 PM Tom_L: i'll look for some next time i'm there
02:12 PM seanofElphinston: Your luck and fortunate have has such easy access of materials, I sometimes have to scrounge and beg for material.
02:12 PM Tom_L: i'd like to find some narrower
02:12 PM Tom_L: have you seen my stash?
02:12 PM rue_shop2: heh no
02:12 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/local_stock/stock_index.php
02:13 PM rue_shop2: we cut blanks that are 3"x4.5" or so
02:13 PM Tom_L: yeah, i'd like to find a strip 3" wide
02:13 PM Tom_L: or 4.5 then i'd cut the long end
02:14 PM Tom_L: swing by and i'll take you down there
02:14 PM rue_shop2: :)
02:15 PM rue_shop2: the last 2 times we bought plate we had them use the supersheer to cut them into 3" strips, saves us a LOT of time
02:16 PM Tom_L: what'd they charge ya?
02:17 PM rue_shop2: bit more than $15/kg
02:17 PM Tom_L: for the cuts
02:17 PM rue_shop2: I think the cut fee was in there, not sure
02:17 PM rue_shop2: hand written doodle of an invoice :)
02:21 PM seanofElphinston is now known as rue_shop7
02:26 PM Tom_L: ok headin out then i'll work on the cad
02:26 PM rue_shop2: stay cool
02:27 PM rue_shop2: (were having a hot spell)
02:28 PM Tom_L: rained all day so far
02:28 PM Tom_L: just quit
02:28 PM Tom_L: bbiab
03:01 PM Tom_L: did you change anything on the perimeter or slot on that model other than the points inside?
03:01 PM Tom_L: i may merge them to save some time
03:39 PM rue_shop2: I think
03:39 PM rue_shop2: we changed the hole sides for the link, added the teeth and removed the front tab
03:42 PM Tom_L: i need a hole size update
03:42 PM Tom_L: i have a list of them
03:42 PM Tom_L: i have a #28 for that
03:55 PM Tom_L: ok i think i have all the elements i need now
03:57 PM polprog: Butler oscillator works! 80MHz
04:07 PM polprog: do you think I could invite Wings here
04:07 PM Tom_L: why not?
04:08 PM rue_shop7: Tom_L, the hole in the dxf should be right
04:08 PM rue_shop7: polprog, I'd be surprised if wings isn't already on irc
04:08 PM Tom_L: yeah but i dunno if i can measure it. when i get it, it's a polyline
04:09 PM rue_shop7: sure
04:09 PM Wings: polyline? I have to leave. I only do monline.
04:09 PM Wings: monoline*
04:09 PM rue_shop7: oh, it should be a circle
04:09 PM rue_shop7: hi Wings
04:09 PM polprog: Hey Wings
04:09 PM Wings: hello
04:09 PM rue_shop7: Tom_L, Wings , Wings Tom_L
04:09 PM Wings: It's a rue ruse here.
04:09 PM polprog: I think you will like it here :)
04:09 PM Wings: :P
04:09 PM Wings: Hello Tom_L
04:09 PM Tom_L: just behave or i'll kick your ass
04:09 PM Tom_L: :)
04:10 PM Wings: Might as well kick it now then.
04:10 PM polprog: I cant measure the butler oscillator because i dont have any RF connector available. Im totally out :(
04:10 PM Wings: Use a scope probe.
04:10 PM rue_shop7: Wings, now you reminded me I want to try that lost pla casting
04:10 PM Wings: How on earth have I reminded you of that?
04:10 PM polprog: I guess. its below 100MHz
04:10 PM Wings: Just from being here?
04:10 PM rue_shop7: polprog, congrads on the osc
04:10 PM rue_shop7: wtf
04:10 PM rue_shop7: the sun just linked
04:10 PM Wings: I think I mentioned lost PLA in the past, so maybe that was it.
04:10 PM rue_shop7: even the solar powered fan felt it
04:11 PM rue_shop7: oh maybe I have people mixed up
04:11 PM rue_shop7: is winds smellsOfBikes?
04:11 PM Wings: Maybe. But I have recommended lost PLA casting many times.
04:11 PM Wings: So it is a "me" sort of thing to say.
04:11 PM rue_shop7: I think both your icons are blue
04:11 PM Wings: And I'm one of the only people without a 3D printer, so hah.
04:12 PM Wings: Possible.
04:12 PM Wings: Mine's indigo, but that's blue enough.
04:12 PM rue_shop7: heh
04:12 PM rue_shop7: I have an alternate icon I dont use, its prodominant colour is "new shoe"
04:12 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, .157 drill?
04:13 PM rue_shop7: Tom_L, oh we just hand drill that
04:13 PM rue_shop7: a center mark would be nice tho
04:13 PM Tom_L: #22
04:13 PM Tom_L: or in your case 4mm
04:13 PM rue_shop7: I can measrue
04:13 PM Tom_L: i'd hope so
04:14 PM Tom_L: that's up from #28 which was a .1405"
04:14 PM Tom_L: #22 is .157
04:26 PM rue_shop2: 4mm
04:27 PM rue_shop2: so you can pocket it with the 3mm bit
04:27 PM Tom_L: nuh uh
04:27 PM Tom_L: i have no mm bits
04:27 PM rue_shop2: 1/8 is 3.doesn't-matter
04:28 PM rue_shop2: 3.175
04:28 PM Tom_L: so around .157"
04:28 PM Tom_L: hole size
04:28 PM Tom_L: 4mm is .1575
04:28 PM rue_shop2: we have to be carefull, sometimes the 1/8" bits are 3mm and sometimes their 3.175
04:29 PM rue_shop2: sure, this sounds good
04:29 PM Wings: Setting up to do threaded holes?
04:29 PM rue_shop2: no
04:29 PM Wings: ah
04:29 PM rue_shop2: just a precision fit (rofl)
04:29 PM Tom_L: i thread all kinds of holes
04:29 PM Wings: It's as precision as you want to push hard.
04:29 PM Wings: :)
04:29 PM Tom_L: so Wings what exactly do you do?
04:30 PM Tom_L: cnc, electronics, knitting, what?
04:30 PM rue_shop2: *we are specifically required to include knitting in the list
04:31 PM rue_shop2: ok, I designed a replacement face for the UPS case
04:31 PM Tom_L: ok i got all the lines to match up
04:39 PM Tom_L: so rue_shop2
04:39 PM Tom_L: the recesses by the tabs, you may as well eliminate
04:39 PM Tom_L: they don't get cut
04:40 PM polprog: huh, there is a whole famil of peaks
04:40 PM polprog: family*
04:41 PM Wings: Welcome to THD, how may we erroneously help you?
04:41 PM Tom_L: Wings, you never did answer me
04:42 PM Tom_L: what are you interested in?
04:44 PM Wings: When did you ask?
04:44 PM Tom_L: 4:16
04:45 PM Wings: Pfft, I completely glossed over it.
04:45 PM Wings: Sorry
04:45 PM Wings: I do all sorts of things.
04:45 PM Wings: Mainly spend time on analog electronics, but many many other things.
04:46 PM Tom_L: build anything?
04:46 PM Wings: Sure.
04:47 PM Wings: A recent example of a simple coffee-break project. https://twitter.com/W1ngsD/status/1409533995767894018?s=20
04:47 PM rue_shop2: Tom_L, its easier for us to do the work on the peices if they are still tabbed into the blank
04:47 PM Tom_L: oh?
04:48 PM Tom_L: what do you have left to do?
04:48 PM Tom_L: cost more to ship too
04:48 PM Tom_L: Wings, nice
04:48 PM rue_shop2: we drill that tiny hole, and....
04:48 PM rue_shop2: hmm, I'v not done one in a while
04:48 PM Tom_L: i'll have that hole there already
04:49 PM rue_shop2: was it 1/16"
04:49 PM Tom_L: this will be a complete part ready for assembly
04:49 PM Tom_L: yes
04:49 PM Tom_L: for the wire
04:49 PM rue_shop2: sean is gone now
04:50 PM rue_shop2: hmm
04:50 PM rue_shop2: we used to have to mill the step, but we dont anymore
04:50 PM rue_shop2: there are 2 holes to drill
04:50 PM Tom_L: can i get rid of those pockets by the tab?
04:50 PM Tom_L: you don't machine them anyway
04:51 PM Tom_L: look at your part :)
04:51 PM Tom_L: i will mill the can step
04:51 PM rue_shop2: yea, thats what I was saying, the cam just skips what it cant fit the bit into
04:51 PM Tom_L: .038" thick
04:52 PM Tom_L: so i can get rid of it?
04:52 PM rue_shop2: oh I closed the file again
04:52 PM rue_shop2: yea, it was a bend relief
04:52 PM rue_shop2: we been doing fine without it
04:52 PM Tom_L: i'm about ready to throw tools at it so....
04:52 PM Tom_L: i'll keep that file but remove it for this
04:53 PM rue_shop2: sure
04:54 PM Tom_L: need to figure out fixturing but it's ready for tools
04:54 PM Tom_L: so you still want the excess left on or not?
04:54 PM Tom_L: or a finished part
04:54 PM polprog: goodnight. Ill try to make a 5th ot oscilaltor tomorrow
04:55 PM Tom_L: .157" and .0625" holes
04:56 PM Wings: Good, good, good! Good oscillations!
04:56 PM * Wings sings
04:57 PM Wings: Good night polprog.
04:58 PM rue_shop2: Tom_L, got the file open again
04:58 PM Tom_L: what was your need to leave it tabbed?
04:58 PM rue_shop2: the small hole shown is actually 1/8"
04:59 PM Tom_L: huh?
04:59 PM Tom_L: for A12?
04:59 PM rue_shop2: the other radius across from it is where the 1/16" hole goes
04:59 PM rue_shop2: A10
04:59 PM rue_shop2: A9
04:59 PM Tom_L: the small hole is for A12
04:59 PM rue_shop2: oh, A'm talking A9/10
04:59 PM rue_shop2: and type fail
04:59 PM Tom_L: A12 is drilled to #43
05:00 PM Tom_L: so that hole should also be a #43
05:00 PM Tom_L: no?
05:00 PM rue_shop2: that should be a bit larger than 1/16"?
05:00 PM rue_shop2: so
05:00 PM Tom_L: #43 is .089
05:01 PM Tom_L: which is what A12 is drilled to
05:01 PM rue_shop2: http://www.ruemohr.org/p1090695.jpg
05:01 PM Tom_L: and
05:01 PM Tom_L: the small hole in A12 is 1/16
05:01 PM rue_shop2: the brass pin between A9 and A12 is 1/16"
05:01 PM rue_shop2: loose fit in A9, peeneed to A12
05:02 PM Tom_L: then #43 is oversize
05:02 PM Tom_L: ok
05:02 PM rue_shop2: the hole for the spring is not in the Dxf
05:02 PM rue_shop2: but I'm sure we use 1/16"
05:02 PM Tom_L: so back to 1/16" on the small hole on A9
05:02 PM rue_shop2: :)
05:02 PM rue_shop2: see what you got yourself into :)
05:02 PM Tom_L: why not?
05:02 PM Tom_L: i can add one
05:02 PM Tom_L: what size?
05:02 PM rue_shop2: 1/16"
05:02 PM Tom_L: A10 actually
05:02 PM Tom_L: for the spring?
05:03 PM rue_shop2: the small hole shown in A9 is acutlly 1/8"
05:03 PM rue_shop2: A10 having the 1/16"
05:03 PM Tom_L: concentric with that outter profile?
05:03 PM Tom_L: yes
05:03 PM rue_shop2: yes
05:03 PM Tom_L: wtf
05:03 PM rue_shop2: the link holes are not concentric cause they were adjusted once upon a time
05:03 PM Tom_L: so you want .125 on A9, .0625 on A10 and .157 on the other side for the chain
05:04 PM rue_shop2: sounds correct yes
05:04 PM rue_shop2: see why we just hand drill them?
05:04 PM Tom_L: send me a ECO on that pls :)
05:04 PM rue_shop2: hah
05:04 PM Tom_L: no need, i just need the info
05:04 PM Tom_L: so i can cut the excess off then ehh?
05:05 PM rue_shop2: I'm going to say yes, if you can drill all that, its good
05:05 PM Tom_L: done deal
05:05 PM Tom_L: send the ECO
05:05 PM rue_shop2: <html> ...
05:06 PM rue_shop2: wow, those pics were taken when we were still hand routing the ledge
05:06 PM Tom_L: so A9 drills ar #22 and .125
05:06 PM Tom_L: A10 are #22 and .0625
05:07 PM Tom_L: 22 is .157
05:07 PM rue_shop2: then thats right
05:07 PM rue_shop2: 22 being 4mm
05:07 PM Tom_L: yeah
05:08 PM rue_shop2: yea just checked my chart its under by an insignificant amount
05:08 PM Tom_L: i checked mine too :)
05:09 PM rue_shop7: I did one up with numbers, metric, and imperial, but then one of my robotic students did a better one
05:09 PM rue_shop7: so I use that
05:09 PM Tom_L: let's see if i can nail that hole for A10...
05:12 PM Tom_L: ok A10 has a hole now
05:14 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/A9-A10-profile.jpg
05:14 PM Tom_L: look ok?
05:14 PM Tom_L: holes are to scale
05:15 PM Tom_L: except i'm gettin rid of those pockets by the tab
05:20 PM rue_shop2: that looks good
05:21 PM rue_shop2: the divide between A9/10 get muted a bit with the 1/8" bit too
05:22 PM rue_shop2: I wonder what a good thing to test lost pla with is
05:23 PM Tom_L: another pillowblock
05:23 PM Tom_L: one with the taper
05:25 PM rue_shop7: hmm
05:26 PM rue_shop7: I'd like something with more critical detail
05:27 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Cube/Turners_cube1.jpg
05:27 PM Tom_L: detailed enough?
05:41 PM rue_shop7: heh, hey want to try some A8 later?
05:41 PM Tom_L: what?
05:42 PM Tom_L: oh
05:42 PM Tom_L: i was looking at that the other day
05:42 PM Tom_L: that's 5/16 material right?
05:43 PM Tom_L: i sorta had a plan for that
05:43 PM Tom_L: still thinking
05:44 PM rue_shop7: nope 1/4"
05:44 PM rue_shop7: its a really easy one
05:44 PM Tom_L: you start off by drilling the hole so you can hold it down and an extra hole in the same place only for the next part
05:44 PM Tom_L: then you keep sliding the sheet forward as you cut them
05:46 PM Tom_L: leave a couple tabs on the flat edge side so you can keep breaking them off as you go
05:46 PM rue_shop2: I'm just doing a clamp for myself here in the cnc between things
05:46 PM rue_shop2: :)
05:46 PM Tom_L: i'm eating
05:47 PM rue_shop2: hmm, do a locating pin
05:47 PM Tom_L: you follow what i meant on A8?
05:47 PM Tom_L: on the material edge, yes so you can just slide it forward and clamp
05:47 PM Tom_L: with a screw in the big hole
05:48 PM Tom_L: just an off the wall thought
05:48 PM Tom_L: i had another one where you pin the 1/16 hole and bolt the big one and do 6-8 at once on a sheet
05:49 PM Tom_L: i made a handfull of those i think
05:49 PM Tom_L: did i send you any?
05:50 PM Tom_L: machines have improved since i did those though
05:53 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, are you planning to ramp up production?
06:00 PM rue_mohr: nope
06:00 PM rue_mohr: we have run out of most of our stock
06:01 PM rue_mohr: sean is working on doing up triggers
06:01 PM rue_mohr: not sure how many triggers I cast last time
06:01 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if I can melt pla out of a high temp silicone cast
06:19 PM Tom_L: i'll not do any of those then
07:06 PM rue_shop7: were just building stock for now, all parts are game
07:08 PM rue_shop7: so I had a good one there
07:08 PM Tom_L: about to show a toolpath
07:08 PM rue_shop7: I was welding, and whe I stopped I heard crackeling,
07:09 PM rue_shop7: some glass under where I was welding that had been subject to a hydaulic oil leak had causht fire
07:09 PM rue_shop7: :D
07:09 PM rue_shop7: Rue burns down canada..
07:18 PM Tom_L: how thick are your tabs?
07:44 PM rue_shop7: 1mm
07:45 PM Tom_L: i did .030
07:47 PM rue_shop2: ok
07:47 PM Tom_L: gotta add a couple drills to the tool file
08:21 PM Tom_L: says 11 min to run that part
08:21 PM Tom_L: so ~15 with manual tool changes
08:32 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4XZeuB-wNM
08:37 PM Tom_L: still need to fixture it
09:15 PM rue_mohr: :) what flowchart is in your head there?
09:15 PM rue_mohr: just got back from the beach
09:15 PM rue_mohr: I got most the way in, but my hands were gettin too cold
09:15 PM Tom_L: what are you talking about?
09:16 PM Tom_L: drill then mill
09:16 PM rue_mohr: job design setup
09:17 PM Tom_L: i'm working on the tabs, they're not big enough
09:30 PM rue_mohr: do you think more people use tabs or foil
09:39 PM Tom_L: foil is easier but i had trouble before because things weren't flat
09:40 PM Tom_L: my cad cam doesn't add tabs automatically, i have to create them
09:40 PM Tom_L: and i had to move a couple
09:44 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, what were you questioning about how i'm cutting it?
09:47 PM rue_mohr: I use tabs, but I get the impression not many other people do
09:47 PM Tom_L: just depends on the job
09:47 PM rue_mohr: I think there is a foil trick, but
09:48 PM Tom_L: yeah i've done that
09:48 PM Tom_L: you gotta be careful though
09:48 PM Tom_L: .002" or so thick
09:48 PM Tom_L: maybe .003
09:48 PM Tom_L: and you gotta have a very flat work surface
09:49 PM Tom_L: that was part of my problem before
09:49 PM Tom_L: it was thin on one end and they would break out
09:51 PM Tom_L: what were your material dimensions on that again?
09:52 PM rue_mohr: for A9/10?
09:52 PM Tom_L: yeah
09:52 PM rue_mohr: 3" x 4.5"
09:53 PM rue_mohr: the 4.5" is "tight" a bit more is nice
09:53 PM Tom_L: i'm at 4 x 3.25
09:53 PM rue_mohr: hmm, did yo keep the zero there?
09:53 PM Tom_L: but i'm making 4 longer
09:53 PM Tom_L: what zero?
09:53 PM rue_mohr: the 0,0
09:54 PM rue_mohr: I could tell ya the offset from somewere to zero
09:54 PM Tom_L: oh i always do
09:54 PM rue_mohr: ok
09:54 PM Tom_L: a reference on the machine where i set zero up
09:54 PM Tom_L: which on this will be the coner of the work plate
09:55 PM Tom_L: not the material plate
09:55 PM Tom_L: one sec and i'll show ya
09:55 PM rue_mohr: I think I know what you mean
09:56 PM rue_mohr: we have a 1:1 print of the part with a hole where 0.0 is, we align the print and mark 0, then zero machine there and cut
09:57 PM rue_shop7: it works nicely when your cutting parts out of "whatever you can get" scrap
09:58 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/A9-A10-workplate.jpg
09:58 PM Tom_L: that plate i use sometimes to hold things
09:58 PM rue_shop7: you going to set something up on the vise or?
09:58 PM Tom_L: it's drilled and tapped as shown
09:59 PM rue_shop7: you dont do "profile cutout" class work often
09:59 PM Tom_L: that plate is in the vise already
09:59 PM rue_shop7: k
09:59 PM Tom_L: i switch back and forth
09:59 PM rue_shop7: i screw down to sacraficial
09:59 PM Tom_L: haven't done profiles in a while
09:59 PM rue_shop7: which is pre-leveled
09:59 PM rue_shop7: ;)
09:59 PM Tom_L: that dotted plate is sacrificial
09:59 PM rue_shop7: way below ya
09:59 PM Tom_L: it's ~1" thick
10:00 PM rue_shop7: how long do you think it will take to run?
10:00 PM Tom_L: (was)
10:00 PM Tom_L: i told you
10:00 PM Tom_L: ~15 min with manual tool changes
10:00 PM Tom_L: approx
10:02 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/testcut.jpg
10:02 PM Tom_L: the holes are exagerated
10:08 PM Tom_L: lemme tilt it so you can see the tabs
10:09 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A9_New/testcut2.jpg
10:09 PM Tom_L: how does that look?
10:12 PM Tom_L: cycle time shows 11 min
10:12 PM Tom_L: i figure another 4-5 for manual tool changes
10:12 PM Tom_L: it's fairly accurate
11:04 PM rue_shop7: ooo
11:05 PM rue_shop7: it looks like the cutter on the simulator needs to be running faster ;)
11:05 PM Tom_L: it alwasys looks crappy there
11:06 PM Tom_L: i don't use it much
11:06 PM Tom_L: it did catch those spot drills though
11:06 PM Tom_L: i had them starting from the bottom surface instead of the top :)
11:12 PM Tom_L: i _could_ scribe a cut line for the bandsaw with the spot drill :)
