12:31 AM rue_mohr: mark
12:39 AM rue_mohr: I don't get how it is, that the entire world is saying nothing on the internet right now
12:39 AM rue_mohr: these really creepy dead spots
03:54 AM Tom_L: well this world was sleeping :)
03:56 AM Tom_L: the shot has turned them all into zombies!
07:14 AM Tom_L: if you need a sprue off either of those parts i can add one
08:32 AM rue_mohr: oh I just cut it all into the sand
05:23 PM Tom_L: so what's on the bucket list for tonight?
05:42 PM polprog: hard to say, my ee activity today resorted to looking for a prog man for an SD card magic chip Kiwa posted
05:42 PM polprog: and thats all
05:42 PM polprog: im tired..
05:43 PM Tom_L: :/
05:43 PM polprog: i need a fresh mind to poke at that wyse bios again
05:44 PM polprog: so not today
05:44 PM polprog: the desk is a mess and it's too late to clean it
05:44 PM polprog: on friday i have some stupid labs in multisim
05:44 PM polprog: :/
05:44 PM Tom_L: if you cleaned it then it would look like you never did anything!
05:45 PM polprog: it's covered in paperwork..
05:45 PM Tom_L: ick
05:45 PM polprog: i should try to build the mixer or fix up the xtal oscillator, maybe ill get 100MHz
05:45 PM polprog: i got some 1GHz NPNs
05:47 PM polprog: i guess I could try to load the bios in qemu and single step it to see where it hits the halt instruction
06:36 PM rue_mohr: well, some TQFP adapters arrived, I have some cpld's I want to try to talk to
06:36 PM rue_mohr: hypothetically, being able to attach wires to them simplifies this goal
06:38 PM Tom_L: webpack will work on the cpld if they're xilinx
06:38 PM rue_mohr: yea
06:38 PM rue_mohr: I think they are
06:40 PM Tom_L: i'm waiting to see those bearings in a pillowblock :)
06:40 PM rue_mohr: oh ahha
06:40 PM rue_mohr: the print was done this morning
06:40 PM rue_mohr: funny thing we couldn't see
06:40 PM Tom_L: oh cool
06:41 PM rue_mohr: *do a cross section of that one thru the hole*
06:41 PM rue_mohr: ;)
06:41 PM Tom_L: backwards?
06:41 PM rue_mohr: no
06:41 PM rue_mohr: check the slope on the edges of that hole...
06:42 PM rue_mohr: via cross section...
06:42 PM rue_mohr: I can work with it, but I didn't expect it
06:42 PM Tom_L: what's wrong with it? booting...
06:43 PM rue_mohr: you can only see it in cross section
06:43 PM rue_mohr: or holding it :)
06:44 PM rue_mohr: the viewers dont let you see it right
06:44 PM rue_mohr: I doubt it would even come out on camera
06:45 PM rue_mohr: ... some of these adapters where not what I meant to buy
06:45 PM rue_mohr: oh well
06:46 PM Tom_L: what am i looking for?
06:46 PM rue_mohr: look at the slope of the edges of the hole
06:47 PM rue_mohr: so you need to do a cutaway thru the hole
06:49 PM rue_mohr: I expected it to be a cone shaped hole
06:49 PM rue_mohr: you seeing it?
06:49 PM Tom_L: no
06:49 PM Tom_L: is it flat?
06:49 PM rue_mohr: its not all 10 degrees
06:51 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/pillowblock/pillowblock1.jpg
06:51 PM Tom_L: hard to tell there
06:51 PM rue_mohr: yup try cutting at a differnent angle
06:51 PM rue_mohr: like rotattion thru
06:52 PM rue_mohr: one side is 90 degrees and the other side 80?
06:52 PM rue_mohr: the virtual perspective in our softwares makes it hard to see
06:53 PM Tom_L: yea i can't see it
06:53 PM Tom_L: i can fix it though
06:53 PM Tom_L: i wonder if i need to do them both together
06:54 PM rue_mohr: I think that method of doing the hole doesn't work right to slope it
06:54 PM rue_mohr: it might work better if you can cut out a cone
06:54 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1190946.jpg
06:55 PM rue_mohr: so, see how the hole looks like its a bit off to the right bottom?
06:55 PM rue_mohr: :)
06:55 PM rue_mohr: I'm going to try it anyhow, not right now tho
06:57 PM Tom_L: i'm trying something
06:57 PM rue_shop5: [ xilinx 9572xl tq100 and xc9572xl vq64
06:58 PM Tom_L: tiny
07:03 PM Tom_L: lemme ask you this
07:03 PM Tom_L: for the fat side of the outside should the hole be small or larger?
07:04 PM Tom_L: i'm gonna exagerate this one for viewing clarity then i'll adjust the angle
07:06 PM rue_shop5: for the fat side the hole should be smaller
07:09 PM Tom_L: ok this looks right then hang on...
07:10 PM Tom_L: ok check that out and see
07:10 PM Tom_L: i did 10deg for clarity
07:10 PM rue_mohr: ok, but I cant tell if its right
07:14 PM Tom_L: i'll fix it and post the code so you can look at it
07:17 PM Tom_L: Pillow_Block.stl
07:17 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/pillowblock/
07:17 PM Tom_L: i think what happened is it ignored the 2nd draft angle because i did them separate
07:18 PM rue_mohr: it seems that a draft angle doesn't apply to a hole, cause its only one direction
07:19 PM Tom_L: but it does
07:19 PM rue_mohr: check with some cut-aways, I think you will find the result is not a cone
07:20 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/pillowblock/pillowblock_section.jpg
07:20 PM Tom_L: it is a cone
07:20 PM Tom_L: now
07:21 PM Tom_L: that should be ok now
07:22 PM Tom_L: ^^ that .stl should be right
07:22 PM rue_mohr: ok, just to check, try a corss section 90 degrees to that
07:22 PM Tom_L: the first time i did 2 drafts and it ignored the 2nd one
07:23 PM rue_mohr: hmm
07:23 PM Tom_L: it's a circle dude.. it's gonna be the same
07:24 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/pillowblock/pillowblock_section1.jpg
07:25 PM Tom_L: and that one is 5 degrees each side
07:26 PM Tom_L: can you just print a shell?
07:26 PM Tom_L: or very little infill... it's just for a mold
07:28 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/pillowblock/pillowblock_diameters.jpg
07:28 PM Tom_L: convinced?
07:31 PM Tom_L: if not, here's one more: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/pillowblock/pillowblock_diameters1.jpg
07:36 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/pillowblock/pillowblock_diameters2.jpg
07:36 PM Tom_L: that one gives you center distance of the hole to the base edge
07:36 PM Tom_L: for your lathe swing
07:36 PM Tom_L: 4.012"
07:54 PM rue_shop5: ok, right before everyone stormed me what was I doing
07:54 PM Tom_L: check the last link there
07:55 PM Tom_L: all the dimensions make it clear
07:55 PM Tom_L: and the stl is there also
07:55 PM rue_shop5: ok
07:55 PM Tom_L: lathe center distance as well
07:56 PM Tom_L: that outta use up some of your alum
07:57 PM rue_shop5: ok
07:57 PM rue_shop5: I'm gonna solder a chip to an adapter
07:57 PM Tom_L: ok
07:57 PM rue_shop5: I just had a baraage of epopel and text and phonecalls
07:57 PM Tom_L: figured you fell off the earth..
08:04 PM rue_shop5: it was insane
08:15 PM Tom_L: so i think that part is ok now
08:26 PM rue_shop5: ok, i thinkg i got the 64
08:28 PM Tom_L: 64 what?
08:29 PM rue_mohr: 64 pin qfp
08:29 PM Tom_L: oh
08:30 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1190955.jpg
08:31 PM Tom_L: tiny
08:34 PM rue_mohr: 0.5mm pitch
08:34 PM rue_mohr: easy, right?
08:35 PM Tom_L: i don't see why not
08:35 PM Tom_L: i did one of those leadless ones
08:35 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/atmega32u4/atmega32u4_1.jpg
08:42 PM rue_mohr: did you do any by hand?
08:43 PM Tom_L: i did that one by hand
08:44 PM rue_mohr: :)
08:44 PM Tom_L: i did ~200 programmers by hand
08:44 PM rue_mohr: what
08:44 PM Tom_L: before i had the toaster oven
08:44 PM rue_mohr: when did you bring in the toaster oven?
08:44 PM rue_mohr: really!?
08:44 PM rue_mohr: wow
08:44 PM Tom_L: uh huh
08:44 PM rue_mohr: I thought the oven came in right away
08:45 PM Tom_L: not soon enough :)
08:46 PM rue_mohr: soldering that was a distraction
08:46 PM rue_mohr: I need to remember what I needed me to do
08:46 PM rue_mohr: before I fall asleep
08:46 PM Tom_L: trick is you pin 2 corners then flood all the pins
08:46 PM rue_mohr: yea, I had a hard time getting the corners on that
08:47 PM Tom_L: enough paste and it flows right where you want it
08:47 PM rue_mohr: I used the "wet solder braid" method
08:47 PM Tom_L: so have i
08:48 PM Tom_L: with the flux pen across them and a good blob of solder on the iron you can run it across them and get them usually the first time
08:49 PM rue_mohr: yea, I heard the trick is lots of flux
08:50 PM Tom_L: you got a flux pen?
08:50 PM rue_mohr: yes
08:51 PM Tom_L: with catia, you can take a shape say like a cone and take that surface and unroll it so you can cut it from sheet metal etc
08:55 PM Tom_L: a better example might be wing skins
08:58 PM rue_mohr: I know what you mean, jester could do that with this other program he used for the sprayers
08:59 PM Tom_L: that 'feature' consisted of 3 icons and at a cost of $14k
08:59 PM Tom_L: so i was told
08:59 PM rue_mohr: oof
09:00 PM rue_mohr: I'm staying quite lost
09:00 PM rue_mohr: on whatever it is I'm trying to do
09:00 PM Tom_L: why?
09:00 PM rue_mohr: ah, I'd like a datasheet for that chip
09:00 PM rue_mohr: I cant concentrate
09:01 PM Tom_L: i've had about 15 things going on here while we're here
09:01 PM rue_mohr: my eyes are trying to fall asleep
09:02 PM Tom_L: got some work, printed some tickets, placed a decent size order, been to the shop 2-3x ....
09:02 PM rue_mohr: ok
09:02 PM Tom_L: mine get blurry but right now they're ok
09:02 PM rue_mohr: I get home and if I didn't have a Bcomplex at 2:00pm I'm collapsing
09:03 PM rue_mohr: ok it has 72 macro cells
09:03 PM rue_mohr: its 3.3V
09:04 PM Tom_L: given on the part number yes
09:04 PM Tom_L: that's why i said it was tiny
09:04 PM rue_mohr: thats ok
09:04 PM rue_mohr: I might just want a really fancy 8255
09:05 PM rue_mohr: (parallel io chip)
09:05 PM rue_mohr: or a big shift register
09:05 PM Tom_L: i didn't say it was useless, just small
09:06 PM rue_mohr: damnit, the datasheet I found doens't have the pinout
09:08 PM Tom_L: 64 pins?
09:08 PM rue_mohr: yes
09:08 PM rue_mohr: VQ64
09:09 PM Tom_L: https://uart.cz/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/xc9572-pinout.png
09:09 PM Tom_L: how many is that?
09:09 PM Tom_L: 44
09:09 PM rue_mohr: yea thats small
09:12 PM Tom_itx: first time that's bluescreened
09:12 PM rue_mohr: oops
09:12 PM rue_mohr: I might have found it
09:12 PM rue_mohr: yes
09:13 PM Tom_shop: hope that board isn't going out already
09:13 PM rue_mohr: board?
09:14 PM rue_mohr: I have the power and programming pins
09:15 PM Tom_L: yeah i just replaced this mb
09:18 PM rue_mohr: I did that to a rock-solid jukebox once
09:18 PM Tom_itx: https://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/data_sheets/ds057.pdf
09:18 PM Tom_itx: page 6
09:19 PM Tom_L: not quite what you had in mind but the info is there
09:19 PM rue_mohr: its a table, I got a table in mine
09:20 PM Tom_L: well it shows the pin functions
09:20 PM rue_mohr: yea same
09:20 PM rue_mohr: thats the one I found too
09:20 PM rue_mohr: :)
09:20 PM rue_mohr: so
09:20 PM rue_mohr: I need to hook up
09:20 PM rue_mohr: 4 vcc pins
09:20 PM rue_mohr: 4 ground pins
09:21 PM rue_mohr: and 4 programming pins
09:21 PM rue_mohr: and fix the jukebox
09:21 PM rue_mohr: and stay awake
09:21 PM Tom_itx: https://easyeda.com/componentimage/XC9572XL_VQ64_VQ64-6704d7ccf9b1498dbea9c56462ec1fe3.png
09:21 PM rue_mohr: heh
09:21 PM rue_mohr: says eagle all over it
09:23 PM Tom_itx: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fhackaday.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2015%2F10%2Fcpld-version-1-schematic.png&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fhackaday.com%2F2015%2F10%2F28%2Fprogrammable-logic-build-yourself-a-cpld-module%2F&tbnid=ZyQ1CDW-dHoS6M&vet=12ahUKEwi86djpu4nxAhVMbK0KHXufARIQMygXegQIARBs..i&docid=TywIgR6XPDhkAM&w=3029&h=2129&q=xc9572%20vq64%20pin%20pinout&client=firefox-b-1-d&ved=2ahUKEwi86djpu4nxAhVMbK0KHXufARIQMygXegQIAR
09:23 PM Tom_itx: Bs
09:23 PM Tom_itx: shit
09:23 PM rue_mohr: ulrclean.com
09:23 PM rue_mohr: urlclean
09:24 PM Tom_L: you'll just have to guess what it was
09:24 PM Tom_itx: https://hackaday.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/cpld-version-1-schematic.png
09:24 PM rue_mohr: I suppose I need to put this on a board
09:24 PM Tom_itx: i couldn't read it
09:24 PM Tom_itx: but might be that chip and might not
09:24 PM rue_mohr: get the power rails all mashed togethor
09:25 PM rue_mohr: its not a 64
09:25 PM Tom_itx: i'm thinking not
09:25 PM rue_mohr: and break out a jtag
09:25 PM rue_mohr: not sure if I can do it with the amount of energy I have left right now
09:25 PM rue_mohr: I'm thrilled I got the chip on
09:26 PM rue_mohr: the other one I have is a vq100
09:26 PM rue_mohr: (100 pin)
09:26 PM Tom_L: closer together
09:26 PM rue_mohr: no, same pitch
09:26 PM rue_mohr: 0.5mm
09:28 PM Tom_L: 3rd damn time i printed this worksheet. i hope he's made up his mind this time
09:28 PM rue_mohr: maybe I should drag the jukebox down off the shelf and prep it for surgery
09:29 PM rue_mohr: I think I raided the filesystem, but I dont know if I copied the boot block
09:38 PM Tom_L: so has the dust settled enough or are you gonna stay on libera too?
09:38 PM rue_mohr: I dont think anything has settled yet
09:43 PM rue_shop5: so
09:43 PM rue_shop5: I just went to unscrew the lid on the electrical box that the transmitter is going in
09:43 PM rue_shop5: there is a problem
09:43 PM Tom_L: full o water?
09:43 PM rue_shop5: there is no box
09:43 PM Tom_L: no box?
09:43 PM rue_shop5: nope
09:44 PM rue_shop5: seems I didn't put a box on the pipe
09:44 PM Tom_L: oops
09:44 PM rue_shop5: just a can, to keep the water out
09:44 PM rue_shop5: ok
09:44 PM rue_shop5: so, a few hurdles yet
09:44 PM Tom_L: but at least you're staying awake
09:49 PM rue_shop5: kinda
10:12 PM rue_mohr: wtf
10:13 PM rue_mohr: ok, the boot system is on one partition and everything else is on the raid
10:13 PM rue_mohr: ok
10:13 PM rue_mohr: the slave drive died
10:14 PM Tom_L: you must have alot of audio on that thing
10:14 PM rue_mohr: no I keep the audio on the usb stick
10:14 PM Tom_L: use an rpi for it
10:15 PM rue_mohr: cpu had nothing to do tiwth this fail
10:15 PM rue_mohr: I'm trying to figure out wtf
10:15 PM rue_mohr: I only want to fix the thing that broke
10:16 PM rue_mohr: and I want to fix it so its better than it was before
10:16 PM Tom_L: you keep yourself busy... soon as you fix that the phone one will go down
10:16 PM rue_mohr: the fact I put it on a raid system is slowing down my recover
10:17 PM rue_mohr: for some reason the system wont boot with one of the raid drives down
10:18 PM rue_mohr: since the loss of the floppy drive, booting systems that cant boot themself got harder
10:18 PM rue_mohr: hey
10:18 PM rue_mohr: why dont i put the boot on cdrom
10:18 PM rue_mohr: wold that help
10:19 PM rue_mohr: hmm more hardware prolly not
10:19 PM rue_mohr: this baord cant boot usb
10:19 PM Tom_L: would be easier
10:19 PM rue_mohr: I have an ssd I might pair this drive with
10:19 PM rue_mohr: when I work out how to boot it
10:20 PM rue_mohr: I guess if I need a pickaxe to type, its time for a new keybaord
10:21 PM rue_mohr: even if I get it up
10:22 PM rue_mohr: I need to have it running its own image to get it to rewrite the bootloader
10:33 PM rue_mohr: so it boots with LI 01 01 01
10:33 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/doc/liloguide.txt
10:34 PM rue_mohr: ok, so maybe its just freaking out cause the second drive died
10:34 PM rue_mohr: if I put in a repalcement it might be ok
10:52 PM rue_shop5: now its L99
10:53 PM rue_shop5: yay, the exact reason I made the list, nobody has the full list of errors ANYWHERE
10:53 PM rue_shop5: fffff
10:54 PM rue_shop5: ode 99 means invalid second stage index sector.
10:54 PM rue_shop5: so, wtf is it looking for
10:55 PM rue_shop5: and did I back it up
10:59 PM rue_shop5: huh
10:59 PM rue_shop5: I have a backup from the boot config and it looks fine
10:59 PM rue_shop5: but I think its looking for the kernel on the wrong drive
11:01 PM rue_shop5: the root file system is on the raid
11:02 PM rue_shop5: so, I can do a reinstall and pick up the raid as root
11:02 PM rue_shop5: but on install it wont let me create a raid with only 1 drive
11:02 PM rue_shop5: or will it
11:06 PM rue_shop5: so its killed 2 drives in like 2 years
11:06 PM rue_shop5: but the first one I had sideways and the head servo burned out
11:07 PM rue_shop5: I'll also add a fan to push air into it,
11:07 PM rue_shop5: it was pretty hot
11:09 PM rue_shop5: maybe the installer can rebuild it
11:18 PM rue_shop5: oops I may have just bad a bad decision
11:30 PM rue_mohr: drat
11:30 PM rue_mohr: if it could boot off a small usb drive, I could back it up and whatever
11:38 PM rue_mohr: mapping out the cpld, there are enough spare pins I can do things right on here
