#garfield Calendar
12:05 AM rue_mohr: were ok for now eh?
12:12 AM aandrew: rue_shop1: heh I did the same thing (AVR) for my shop controlelr
12:12 AM aandrew: wow that's an old board now that I think of it
12:14 AM aandrew: https://pastebin.com/9ve5uyb7 is what I did
12:16 AM aandrew: oh I forgot about the pairty scheme
12:16 AM aandrew: that was weird
12:16 AM rue_mohr: I think I ignored it
12:18 AM rue_mohr: hmm
12:19 AM aandrew: yep the commends from that code say I did the asme
12:20 AM rue_mohr: https://pastebin.com/iKXqCcGr
12:20 AM rue_mohr: there is mine
12:29 AM rue_mohr: don't know how I ended up with that alg
12:32 AM rue_mohr: lately I'v had a lot of "well does the microcontroller *need* to be doing anything else right now"
12:32 AM rue_mohr: I'm surprised I used that method tho, its not what I'd have initially thought of now
12:32 AM rue_mohr: May 2019
12:34 AM aandrew: yeah I constantly catch myself overengineering
12:40 AM rue_mohr: its nice to have time to second guess everything
12:41 AM rue_mohr: but different goals and things, so its all fair
12:42 AM rue_mohr: I been thinking latley about the value of having all the ways of doing something all mapped out at once
12:42 AM rue_mohr: with all the advantages and cavets listed
12:42 AM rue_mohr: there is always a trade
12:45 AM rue_mohr: its nice when your first learning and there is only one way to do things
12:45 AM rue_mohr: then you learn other ways and start to get hung up because some ways are "better"
12:46 AM rue_mohr: then you start to realize that method A is not better than B, but different
12:47 AM rue_mohr: then you see the landscape and realize that knowing all the methods is important to navigating the stuff that matters for a partilular application
12:51 AM rue_mohr: I'm starting to learn about the balance between simplicity and efficiency too
12:51 AM rue_mohr: so often, things that are simple to use are not efficient
01:20 AM rue_mohr: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G9RqXfUE9k
01:20 AM rue_mohr: some cool wood skills
07:36 AM Tom_L: https://fuchsnet.ch/freenode-resign-letter.txt
07:36 AM Tom_L: fwiw
07:50 AM polprog: https://kline.sh/ is the newer info
08:23 AM polprog: fyi i registered #garfield on libera, so you can join in and ill hand it over to rue/Tom (id ont remember who is the owner of it here)
08:23 AM polprog: i suggest you do the same with robotics
08:23 AM polprog: and Emil has registered #avr already
08:40 AM rue_bed2: but it would be dead
08:40 AM rue_bed2: hmm
08:46 AM Tom_L: ok hopefully this fixture and part are programmed
08:46 AM Tom_L: i'm out the door
08:46 AM rue_bed2: aim for #garfield or ##garfield on dalnet then if things dont last till the end of the day
08:47 AM rue_bed2: freenode has been under a powerfight for 21 years now
08:47 AM Tom_L: you don't like libera?
08:47 AM rue_bed2: never heard of it
08:47 AM Tom_L: read the letter
08:47 AM rue_bed2: oh the new one
08:47 AM rue_bed2: right there will just be another powerfight
08:47 AM polprog: im afraid you might be right
08:47 AM Tom_L: other channels are moving that direction
08:47 AM rue_bed2: when this happens to projects none of hte peices ever come out ok
08:48 AM Tom_L: you got my number, txt if you loose track
08:48 AM Tom_L: bye
08:48 AM rue_bed2: oof, can I find it tho
08:48 AM Tom_L: you got a chore then
08:48 AM rue_bed2: rue2018@ruemohr.org
08:49 AM rue_mohr: if I'm right, the new admin will shut down the servers, the alternate will just flop and die
08:50 AM polprog: so dalnet it is then?
08:50 AM rue_mohr: Its been stable for longer than freenode
08:50 AM polprog: eh the new server just died under load
08:51 AM rue_mohr: oo I need the name of a dalnet server
08:52 AM rue_mohr: punch.wa.us.dal.net
08:53 AM rue_: oops not like that
08:53 AM polprog: why
08:55 AM rue_: ok, everyone, I'm also in #garfield on punch.wa.us.dal.net
09:25 AM rue_: I'm pretty sure that the fight for power over freenode wont stop with a name change
09:25 AM rue_ is now known as rue_mohr
10:44 AM aandrew: what is libera?
10:45 AM aandrew: yeah this isn't freenode's first inner battle
10:46 AM aandrew: I've been on a lot of IRC networks over the years, DAL isn't one I've ever been in
10:46 AM aandrew: screw it, go back to the wild west and join efnet :-)
12:22 PM Tom_L: problem is, i've established some good friends over the years here and no telling where they will end up
12:25 PM polprog: aandrew: the freenode opers who stepped down made a new network
12:26 PM polprog: come join us on dal. it's a nice network
12:29 PM Tom_L: i'm not ready to start hopping networks until i see where the shit settles
12:44 PM polprog: im not either tbh
12:44 PM polprog: i doubt someone will pull the plug on *.freenode.net overnight and i have space in my client
12:45 PM Tom_L: see, #avr split over some stupid thing like this too
12:45 PM aandrew: Tom_L: yes, that's the problem with this. ONe of the things I was hopeful XMPP and federation would fix, but it never really caught on
12:53 PM polprog: damn, should have registered #avr first
12:56 PM Tom_L: i forget who the founder of avr was, me or rue but i left
01:18 PM polprog: i think it was you
01:19 PM polprog: ah no, rue
01:19 PM polprog: i guess ill just sit in the channels in all three nets and see which ones are active
02:01 PM aandrew: ok, I'm registerd on libera now, one of my channels had moved there so I was kind of stuck
02:01 PM polprog: we're in #garfield
02:04 PM aandrew: https://linusakesson.net/scene/a-mind-is-born/ for tickling your C64 nostalgia
02:29 PM Tom_L: ok rue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qymVW7Xywx8
02:38 PM Tom_L: camera didn't like the led light strip
04:19 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_fixture.jpg
07:08 PM rue_mohr: I'm on dalnet electronics, avr, garfield, and robotics
07:08 PM rue_mohr: cant get into libra, dont know if I want to
07:10 PM rue_mohr: oh yea efnet
07:10 PM rue_mohr: polprog, just like emil did with avr
07:10 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, I agree on not hopping
07:11 PM rue_mohr: I'll keep dalnet open so you can find me if freenode collapses
07:11 PM polprog: from what i know the former ops team has left this place
07:11 PM polprog: so it can collapse any time
07:12 PM polprog: not hopping is ok for me too, so well keep dalnet as backup then
07:12 PM rue_mohr: I spawned avr from electronics, cause the admin of electronics was getting stupid
07:12 PM rue_mohr: so I pulled an emil
07:12 PM polprog: :)
07:13 PM rue_mohr: probably the way of things
07:14 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, I'm confused tho
07:14 PM rue_mohr: rectangular bracket?
07:15 PM rue_mohr: I think freenode falls over about every month, so without the ops, it may fall over fora while
07:15 PM polprog: i dont mind which server we're on, as long as we can talk :)
07:15 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, which process did you use then?
07:15 PM rue_mohr: yea
07:16 PM rue_mohr: oh I see there is a vert and horiz bracket
07:28 PM rue_mohr: I had been wondering tho, if the freenode staff were related to the attackers
07:28 PM rue_mohr: via their responses to it happening
07:59 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, it starts on the right with a rectangular stock
07:59 PM Tom_L: it profiles halfway thru
07:59 PM Tom_L: flip and fit it in the fixture on the left and profile the bottom
08:39 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, will YT let you join video clips?
08:42 PM rue_mohr: not on my browser
08:42 PM rue_mohr: but I got ya
08:42 PM Tom_L: pics to come
08:44 PM rue_mohr: k
08:50 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/New/A3_1.jpg
08:50 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/New/A3_2.jpg

08:51 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/New/A3_5.jpg
08:51 PM Tom_L: i need to fix the radius tool
08:51 PM Tom_L: it's too close to the part
08:51 PM Tom_L: by maybe .005"
08:51 PM Tom_L: all on the cnc
08:52 PM Tom_L: closer to .002"
08:53 PM rue_mohr: oooh a small bank, I get it now
08:53 PM Tom_L: 2 is blurry, sorry
08:53 PM Tom_L: but the radius is nice, just a little close
08:53 PM rue_mohr: nice
08:53 PM Tom_L: a little sanding would fix it as is
09:05 PM Tom_L: takes longer to run but i think they come out better and it's safer to run
09:05 PM rue_mohr: k
09:05 PM rue_mohr: I was trying to hurry casting them, and I realized that I can make them pretty fast _not_ hurrying
09:08 PM Tom_L: the castings look like they come out pretty nice
09:08 PM rue_mohr: when they come out
09:08 PM Tom_L: i just wanted a project to do
09:08 PM rue_mohr: :)
09:09 PM rue_mohr: I'm not gonna stop ya
09:09 PM Tom_L: i gotta keep programming the cad so i don't forget
09:09 PM Tom_L: getting pretty good an few mistakes
09:09 PM Tom_L: i had the radius tool too low but i caught that and fixed it before running any
09:09 PM Tom_L: that was actually the first part off
09:10 PM Tom_L: i just now adjusted it out by .002" so it should be pretty smooth on the edge
09:10 PM Tom_L: there could be a tiny mismatch where the part gets flipped
09:10 PM rue_mohr: hard to set the radii right
09:10 PM Tom_L: not really
09:11 PM Tom_L: the cutter gives the point radius but it was a little tight
09:11 PM Tom_L: then you just drop from there the radius distance in z
09:12 PM Tom_L: i probably could go a tiny bit deeper in z but it blended pretty good as is
09:51 PM Tom_L: ok, 2nd part is better but there's a tiny mismatch when flipping the part
09:52 PM Tom_L: nothing a belt sander won't knock off
09:54 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/New/A3_2.jpg
09:56 PM rue_shop1: heh
10:22 PM Tom_L: now if only i had a ATC for the mill
10:25 PM Tom_L: dammit, i rubbed my eye and got coolant in it
10:29 PM rue_shop1: eeek flush flush
10:29 PM Tom_L: wasn't so bad but burned for a bit
10:34 PM rue_shop1: :S
10:34 PM rue_shop1: do you keep any stuff for contacts?
10:37 PM Tom_L: she used to but not anymore
10:37 PM Tom_L: may have some visine
11:15 PM rue_shop1: almost done with the card reader
11:16 PM rue_shop1: not trying to do a clean job now, they keep asking if its ready
11:18 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYg05tnrR1U
11:18 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTAH-xDKGWQ
11:20 PM Tom_L: what was the card reader for?
11:32 PM rue_shop1: some client at work needs to audit a bunch of cards
11:33 PM rue_shop1: thats fast eh?
