04:38 AM rue_shop1: got the silly skil motor templated for a bracket
04:58 AM rue_mohr: https://twitter.com/nixie_guy/status/1393859457638178818
05:05 AM Tom_L: keep the motor stationary or you'll have more to deal with in wires
05:17 AM rue_bed2: I'm not sure if I get a better grip on the chain
05:17 AM rue_bed2: I think its the same
05:17 AM rue_bed2: but the amount of chain is different
05:18 AM rue_bed2: for the stationary chain I only need enough for one run
05:18 AM rue_bed2: the stationary motor should have a chain 2x the bed
05:18 AM rue_bed2: OR I use 1x and to the return with cable
05:18 AM Tom_L: and 2x the pulling strength
05:19 AM rue_bed2: ? should be the same
05:19 AM Tom_L: no not if it's got a return path
05:19 AM Tom_L: block n tackle. think about it
05:19 AM rue_bed2: the cariage would be connected to one side of the loop
05:20 AM Tom_L: yeah maybe
05:21 AM Tom_L: i'm not awake
11:40 AM Tom_itx is now known as Tom_L
12:39 PM aandrew: https://fabiensanglard.net/lte/index.html kind of interesting
01:20 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, cute
01:54 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, do you think one of those PS2 / USB/ At-Xt kbd adapters would work with a usb dongle and wireless kbd?
01:54 PM Tom_L: i kinda have my doubts.. especially on dos
02:13 PM rue_mohr: no
02:13 PM rue_mohr: the old controllers supported both usb and ps2
02:15 PM Tom_L: i doubt you can buy a ps2 kbd now either
02:16 PM rue_mohr: hmm
02:20 PM Tom_L: i have a few in a pinch but they're cheap
02:20 PM Tom_L: i'm just trying to keep options open for that old pc
02:21 PM rue_mohr: there are pci usb cards from china eh?
02:21 PM Tom_L: it would certainly help if i quit spilling crap on it
02:21 PM Tom_L: pci hahahah
02:21 PM Tom_L: try isa
02:21 PM rue_mohr: that IS far back
02:21 PM rue_mohr: what are you using it for again?
02:22 PM Tom_L: work
02:22 PM Tom_L: i have a spare but hate to think about that day ever arriving
02:22 PM rue_mohr: the system should run fine on newer hardware?
02:22 PM Tom_L: somewhat new
02:22 PM rue_mohr: maybe not new new, but newer
02:23 PM Tom_L: i have one pc it won't run any old dos stuff
02:23 PM rue_mohr: soemthing with pci should be a workable upgrade
02:23 PM rue_mohr: no I mean with the same drives
02:23 PM Tom_L: for now it's working ok
02:23 PM rue_mohr: move the drive over to new(er) hardware
02:23 PM rue_mohr: no specialized isa cards?
02:24 PM Tom_L: i keep backups on full operating PCs
02:24 PM Tom_L: no
02:24 PM Tom_L: i've programmed the need for that out of it
02:30 PM Tom_L: i've gotten to where i kinda like this new kbd
02:30 PM Tom_L: i wonder if they offer it in wired
03:04 PM rue_mohr: well, I supppose today I make a random splatter of progress across a bunch of projects
03:04 PM rue_mohr: 1pm, I better hurry up and have breakfast
03:35 PM rue_mohr: anyone have guesses as to why this is so popular?
03:35 PM rue_mohr: https://twitter.com/RueNahcMohr/status/1393715344431222790
05:13 PM rue_mohr: darkrose, I dont know who he is, but the comment is great
05:14 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, is there any hardware on the computer thats required?
05:14 PM darkrose: hmm? who who?
05:14 PM rue_mohr: run way?
05:14 PM darkrose: oh
05:14 PM darkrose: australia's prime minister
05:15 PM rue_mohr: ah
05:16 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, I'm gonna try more triggers
05:18 PM rue_shop1: haha if I can find the die
05:20 PM Tom_L: no not really, i've moved all the print routines to files to print under windows
05:27 PM rue_shop1: found the v1 dies
05:33 PM rue_mohr: found em!
06:01 PM rue_shop1: eek the weld to the pliers came apart
06:01 PM rue_shop1: it was just a tack
06:45 PM rue_shop1: ate out another ladel
06:45 PM rue_shop1: having the aluminum just sitting molten in a pot is hard on the steel
06:45 PM rue_shop1: dont know how the aluminum eats the steel like that
06:45 PM rue_shop1: and my damn pouring equip is deisned for 2 people
06:46 PM rue_shop1: and I'm always the only person
07:04 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L,
07:04 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1190621.jpg
07:04 PM rue_mohr: some from both dies
07:04 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1190622.jpg
07:04 PM Tom_L: ahh you did another batch
07:04 PM Tom_L: how's the mold holding up?
07:04 PM rue_mohr: poured most of the rest into muffins, but I missed and poured lots on the lawn
07:05 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1190623.jpg
07:05 PM Tom_L: less to mow
07:05 PM rue_mohr: and I ate out the second ladle
07:05 PM Tom_L: oops
07:05 PM rue_mohr: I had to weed eat it to get that far
07:05 PM Tom_L: maybe you need a graphite one
07:05 PM rue_mohr: the molten aluminum eats out the steel
07:05 PM Tom_L: that's why i asked about the mold
07:05 PM rue_mohr: I check the pot carefully between uses
07:05 PM rue_mohr: its fine
07:06 PM rue_mohr: its got a nice black coating on it
07:06 PM Tom_L: still on vise grips or pliers?
07:06 PM rue_mohr: pliers
07:06 PM rue_mohr: but
07:06 PM Tom_L: goes quicker that way i'm sure
07:06 PM rue_mohr: I had lots of issues with the new one today
07:06 PM rue_mohr: kept getting aluminum stuck in it
07:06 PM Tom_L: oh the first one i did?
07:06 PM rue_mohr: in the aluignment hole and the thermal isolation slot
07:07 PM rue_mohr: the second
07:07 PM Tom_L: oh
07:07 PM rue_mohr: yea
07:07 PM Tom_L: maybe it gets too cold?
07:07 PM rue_mohr: maybe too hot
07:07 PM rue_mohr: I was playing with the speed
07:07 PM Tom_L: weld it shut and file it off flat
07:07 PM rue_mohr: opened one while it was still molten, that was a mess
07:07 PM Tom_L: hah
07:07 PM rue_mohr: na
07:07 PM rue_mohr: I think I just have to pace it for thermal control
07:07 PM Tom_L: water quench between pours?
07:08 PM rue_mohr: also, the alumuinum I was using at the start was REALLY hot
07:08 PM rue_mohr: maybe
07:08 PM Tom_L: might warp it
07:08 PM rue_mohr: also not pouring super hot stuff into it
07:08 PM rue_mohr: so, I'll wait a bit and go see what I win
07:08 PM rue_mohr: :)
07:09 PM rue_mohr: the first one after spraying PAM on it comes out funny
07:09 PM rue_mohr: that PAM can really take high temps
07:09 PM Tom_L: ahh i forgot about that
07:09 PM Tom_L: that you used it
07:09 PM Tom_L: that be the blackness
07:10 PM rue_mohr: the idea was it gives it a bit of a carbon layer to make sure the alum doesn't stick
07:10 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if baby powder would be a better idea
07:10 PM Tom_L: i see all the runners in the box :)
07:10 PM Tom_L: must help fill the part cavity
07:11 PM rue_mohr: I give it a tap when I'm filling it
07:11 PM rue_mohr: that way it always fills properly
07:11 PM Tom_L: i knew you'd figure it out
07:11 PM rue_mohr: aluminum is strange , its stringy
07:11 PM rue_mohr: and foil-y
07:11 PM Tom_L: beats machining them ehh
07:11 PM rue_mohr: maybe!
07:11 PM rue_mohr: way way faster even if I go slow
07:12 PM rue_mohr: but I had the thought today about sending you an order for some :)
07:12 PM Tom_L: ?
07:13 PM Tom_L: machined ones?
07:13 PM rue_mohr: yea,
07:13 PM rue_mohr: see how these go
07:13 PM Tom_L: i'm not even sure i kept the fixtures
07:13 PM rue_mohr: I'll need to work out a new ladel
07:13 PM Tom_L: i'm sure i can do it again
07:13 PM rue_mohr: but the standard ladel design isn't really working anyhow
07:13 PM Tom_L: i'd probably redo it anyway with a little bigger cutter
07:13 PM rue_mohr: no worries, were not being innodated with orders
07:13 PM Tom_L: .125 just seem too small and break alot
07:13 PM Tom_L: .1875 are good
07:14 PM rue_mohr: it also seems the design you had was for a slightly longer than normal trigger
07:14 PM Tom_L: oh?
07:14 PM Tom_L: it's the same i did the mold off of
07:14 PM rue_mohr: yea, subtle different, about 1/4"
07:14 PM rue_mohr: huh, co-worker didn't mention that
07:14 PM Tom_L: i have rounding bits now too instead of the chamfer
07:15 PM Tom_L: dunno how well that would do
07:15 PM rue_mohr: heh, dont let me get you all excited :)
07:15 PM Tom_L: i'm not
07:15 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure that bit would fit past the holding screw anyway
07:16 PM Tom_L: what part was that?
07:16 PM Tom_L: 9, 12,...
07:16 PM Tom_L: A3
07:17 PM rue_mohr: http://www.ruemohr.org/
07:17 PM rue_mohr: I updated our horrid website
07:17 PM rue_mohr: part breakdown of the other design at the bottom
07:17 PM rue_mohr: A3
07:18 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_P1.jpg
07:18 PM Tom_L: i need a better way to hold em
07:18 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_batch/Batch2.jpg
07:18 PM Tom_L: i tried that for something
07:18 PM Tom_L: chamfer maybe?
07:19 PM Tom_L: i don't remember now
07:20 PM rue_mohr: you did shamfer them
07:20 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_batch/Batch3.jpg
07:20 PM Tom_L: i had trouble with some letting go and moving though
07:21 PM Tom_L: side 2 chamfer: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_batch/Batch4.jpg
07:21 PM rue_mohr: ok I see
07:22 PM rue_mohr: hows that peice of sacaficial doing?
07:22 PM Tom_L: chamfer side 1 and cut it out then hold it in a recess for the chamfer on 2
07:22 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure what state it's in right now
07:22 PM Tom_L: i've used it on other stuff too
07:23 PM Tom_L: i'm pretty sure i'd reprogram it with the bigger cutter
07:23 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_batch/Batch8.jpg
07:23 PM Tom_L: so pretty :)
07:24 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_batch/Batch9.jpg
07:24 PM Tom_L: that was one that moved
07:24 PM rue_mohr: I dont know how many are used up
07:24 PM Tom_L: site looks better
07:24 PM rue_mohr: I think we have a mix of ones milled here, ones you milled, and cast ones
07:24 PM rue_mohr: haha
07:25 PM rue_mohr: its terribly shamefull
07:25 PM Tom_L: i have enough holders now i can drill both holes on the mill
07:25 PM rue_mohr: it should have nice backgrounds and tabs for categories and and and
07:26 PM Tom_L: i think i got plenty of plate to make any of the parts
07:26 PM Tom_L: but i don't remember anything about em now
07:26 PM Tom_L: i probably kept a spare part of each i did
07:40 PM rue_shop1: 23
07:40 PM rue_shop1: er 24
07:41 PM rue_shop1: that look ok
07:42 PM rue_shop1: I have to go shopping
07:42 PM rue_shop1: 1.5hr tank
07:42 PM rue_shop1: task
07:42 PM rue_shop1: I want to do some welding
08:23 PM rue_mohr: ok, in 1 hour I should go shopping
08:23 PM rue_mohr: so, I have one hour to work out this bushing holder I want to make
08:36 PM rue_shop1: drat, i cant get material ready fast enough, I dont have some of the material I was planning on
08:37 PM aandrew: hm, some aliexpress orders are automatically registering with canada post
08:37 PM aandrew: I only know because the emails are to andrew-aliexpress@mixdown.ca :-)
08:40 PM Tom_L: ok i have another idea to fixture those A3 parts
08:41 PM Tom_L: may be slower but work better
08:41 PM rue_shop1: hah
08:43 PM Tom_L: cut blocks for side 1 and hold them in the vise on the right, cut the profile halfway down and radius the edge etc then flip it to side 2 (left) as you see here and finish side 2 drilling holes etc
08:43 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_2.jpg
08:43 PM Tom_L: re'make those vise jaws
08:44 PM Tom_L: right side is just a step to hold a square block and left side is the profile you see
08:44 PM Tom_L: write the program to do it all at once
08:44 PM Tom_L: once a half is cut you can cut both sides, one of one part and the other of the next part
08:45 PM Tom_L: safer i think than the plate idea i had but slower
08:46 PM Tom_L: but i think i can rip thru the aluminum pretty quick too using a bigger cutter since i'm not trying to save material this way
08:46 PM Tom_L: and use a radius cutter instead of the chamfer
08:47 PM rue_shop1: we been making parts in batches, I'm not sure when the last time we made triggers was
08:47 PM Tom_L: what was that plastic fixture i did for?
08:47 PM Tom_L: i forgot
08:47 PM rue_shop1: probably the latch
08:48 PM Tom_L: oh i know. i have one sitting here :)
08:48 PM Tom_L: the slotted part
08:48 PM rue_shop1: yea, its a latch
08:48 PM rue_shop1: I shoudl send you a sprayer
08:48 PM Tom_L: no
08:49 PM rue_shop1: I really need to figure out this evergy problem
08:49 PM rue_shop1: energy
08:49 PM Tom_L: still have one or two of those silly encoders i cut..
08:50 PM rue_shop1: :) the bag of parts for those is getting quite good
08:50 PM rue_shop1: I'll see if I can show you later tonight
08:51 PM rue_shop1: I think the current idea is that the front plate is a pcb, and there is a 3d printed back cover for it
08:51 PM rue_shop1: I dont recall what the isue was
08:51 PM rue_shop1: I think its mounting collar
08:51 PM rue_shop1: the ideal target is like a pot
08:53 PM Tom_L: i found my little bag-o-rue-parts to see what material thickness those were
08:55 PM aandrew: heh
08:55 PM aandrew: do we all have a bag 'o rue parts?
08:56 PM rue_mohr: aandrew,
08:56 PM rue_mohr: see the horidly shamefull website, me and a follow make paint sprayers for the log scalers around here.
08:56 PM rue_mohr: http://www.ruemohr.org
08:57 PM Tom_L: i got A9, A8, A3 and the trigger whatever it is
08:58 PM Tom_L: the mold seems to be doing pretty well for the A3
08:58 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: yep I saw that before
08:58 PM rue_mohr: I should realyl find a template and use it.
09:03 PM Tom_L: i bet i have a short set of softjaws i can make the fixture from. closer to the vise would be better cause i don't plan on sittin still cutting these
09:04 PM Tom_L: as long as the vise can hold it, i can cut each side in one pass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7PcbEKrtkI
09:05 PM Tom_L: that gives a darn nice finish too
09:06 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/cutters/60Deg_3Flute_3500R_F30_Finish.jpg
09:06 PM Tom_L: you probably saw that already
11:16 PM rue_mohr: yep
11:27 PM aandrew: spent way too much time dicking with the angles on those LGA20 corner pads
11:27 PM aandrew: https://imgur.com/a/09nMdKh
11:28 PM rue_mohr: oh they drew the page, then put a cover over it, I saw that...
11:28 PM rue_mohr: I'm gonna try with an online web browser
11:29 PM aandrew: oh I forgot the imgur thing
11:29 PM aandrew: one moment
11:29 PM aandrew: https://paste.pics/142574069c81f30feda20953b71009ab
11:30 PM rue_mohr: https://www.browserling.com/browse/win/7/ie/10/https%3A%2F%2Fimgur.com%2Fa%2F09nMdKh
11:30 PM rue_mohr: nope, wtf is with imugr
11:30 PM aandrew: heh that comes up as black for me
11:30 PM aandrew: online web browser, now I've heard of everything
11:31 PM rue_mohr: yea, wtf they block everything
11:42 PM rue_mohr: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
11:42 PM rue_mohr: could you tell me what your user agent shows as?
11:42 PM rue_mohr: google "show user agent" google will tell
11:42 PM rue_mohr: I can just switch it to your string apparently
11:43 PM rue_mohr: string general.useragent.override = ~
