01:28 PM rue_shop1: ok, so I'm taking a usb serial adatper and straightening the pins to fit on a breadboard, and giving it c cable
01:34 PM rue_shop1: now I have power and comms in the same thingle
01:37 PM rue_shop1: oh not yet
01:37 PM rue_shop1: I think I want to make a touchscreen keyboard with it
01:37 PM rue_shop1: see if I can even get started
04:45 PM Tom_L: had an opportunity to test the test cap yet?
04:50 PM rue_mohr: no, the materials arrived on friday to make the cage
06:10 PM Tom_L: did everybody just quit doing things?
06:10 PM Tom_L: been very quiet everywhere since i got back
06:16 PM polprog: ive got loads of work at uni
06:16 PM polprog: ive spent the day filming the sound blaster panel
06:16 PM polprog: but im not happy, i nearly blew it up
06:16 PM polprog: :/
06:16 PM polprog: ill have to film some more
06:17 PM polprog: i just hate it, i dont have time for anything at all
06:18 PM polprog: i just spent 4 hours making some idiotic java program for the course
06:22 PM polprog: i might also have blown my optical-electrical converter
06:22 PM polprog: which sucks
06:47 PM rue_mohr: I just need to post more
06:49 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1180977.jpg
06:49 PM rue_mohr: lonovo keyboard
06:49 PM rue_mohr: they blue is a silicone seal!
06:49 PM rue_mohr: pretty good considering that moisture getting in there is one of the leading causes of keybaord death
06:50 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1180979.jpg
06:50 PM rue_mohr: stupid cable for it has no insulated ground
06:50 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1180982.jpg
06:51 PM rue_mohr: modified a usb adapter to be power+comms for a breadboard
06:51 PM rue_mohr: that should be handy
06:51 PM polprog: thas clever
06:51 PM rue_mohr: seeing as I keep doing it
06:51 PM rue_mohr: gave it a descently long cable, about 18"
06:51 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1180985.jpg
06:51 PM polprog: i should do that with the one that i didnt put together yet
06:51 PM rue_mohr: did you see the resistive touch panel I did 2 years back?
06:51 PM polprog: what's that thing
06:51 PM polprog: ah
06:52 PM polprog: yeah i saw it
06:52 PM rue_mohr: 8 data bits, they latch, there is an led under each data bit
06:52 PM polprog: neat
06:52 PM rue_mohr: :)
06:54 PM polprog: that atx power supply i fixed overvolted the audigy panel
06:54 PM polprog: but it works
06:54 PM rue_mohr: !!
06:54 PM rue_mohr: eeek
06:54 PM polprog: i removed the minimolex and put a 7805
06:54 PM polprog: well, it takes nearly no load on the 12V line
06:54 PM polprog: so now the thing runs from a 12V dc jack
06:55 PM polprog: and i stuck the usb->spdif sound card on it, it goes directly to the spdif input for the headphone amp
06:55 PM polprog: it's pretty loud, even on my 600 ohm headphones
06:56 PM polprog: which is good
06:56 PM rue_mohr: cool
06:56 PM rue_mohr: you didn't post a pic?
06:56 PM polprog: no,.. i was busy all day :/
06:57 PM polprog: im not happy with what i recorded... maybe ill use the intro and some clips from replacing the pot but it the rest doesnt make any sense
06:57 PM polprog: ive got some clips about how the spif goes
06:57 PM polprog: on the PCB
06:57 PM polprog: but i wanted to show it on the scope..
06:58 PM polprog: and im not happy with how i did that either
06:58 PM rue_mohr: k
06:59 PM polprog: https://i.imgur.com/iwfl98j.jpg
06:59 PM polprog: the Optical to electrical converter
06:59 PM polprog: i think i blew it
07:00 PM polprog: because it stopped reacting at all for after i put the toslink cable in the socket
07:00 PM polprog: and that must have been >1mW
07:00 PM polprog: :/
07:00 PM rue_mohr: hmm
07:01 PM polprog: id probably open it later and see if i can get any signal from the diode/detector
07:01 PM polprog: theres exactly zero info about that online
07:04 PM polprog: i need to think about what i wanna say
07:53 PM rue_shop1: YES
07:53 PM rue_shop1: it turns out the problem with my parallel port capture was the laptop
08:11 PM polprog: what's that new computer? looks slim
08:11 PM polprog: also https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/optics/laserkit2.jpg
08:11 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/optics/laserkit1.jpg
08:11 PM rue_mohr: its a micro itx
08:11 PM rue_mohr: of some kind
08:12 PM polprog: hmm, anything interesting?
08:12 PM rue_mohr: no
08:12 PM rue_mohr: old 533Mhz thing
08:12 PM polprog: i should take a look at the swiss industrial PC
08:12 PM rue_mohr: they used to be routers for a local govt office
08:13 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1180987.jpg
08:13 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1180988.jpg

08:13 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1180990.jpg
08:13 PM rue_mohr: ^^ tom
08:14 PM rue_mohr: used qbasic to generate a test file
08:14 PM rue_mohr: it all piped to the linux terminal properly :)
08:14 PM rue_mohr: now I can speed up these machines!
08:33 PM polprog: what kinda subnet is that :P
08:35 PM Tom_L: :)
08:36 PM rue_shop1: hah
08:37 PM rue_shop1: I just hope its genuinly working and not just a fluke
08:38 PM Tom_L: flukes are awesome don't discredit them!
08:38 PM rue_shop1: :)
08:39 PM polprog: good job :D
08:40 PM rue_shop1: funny enough, after all that work to set up the centronics connector , I need a db25 for the final case
08:41 PM polprog: goodnight
09:54 PM rue_shop1: assembling this for keepers
09:54 PM rue_shop1: going well so far
10:22 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1190001.jpg
10:22 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1190002.jpg
10:22 PM rue_mohr: parallel port converter.
10:23 PM Tom_L: pp to what? usb?
10:26 PM rue_mohr: serial 115200 baud
10:26 PM rue_mohr: (over usb of course)
10:26 PM rue_mohr: I have two things that cant talk fast enought cause their serial hardware is too old
10:27 PM rue_mohr: one is my dos pcb software, it tops out at 9600
10:27 PM rue_mohr: the other is my scope, which tops out at 19200, but also has bad ram and cant use its serial port right now
10:27 PM rue_mohr: I think it doesn't affect the parallel port on it
10:34 PM Tom_L: usb has changed it's port connections more than anything else
10:44 PM rue_mohr: yup
10:44 PM rue_mohr: but everything still uses A
10:44 PM rue_mohr: for some reason
10:44 PM rue_mohr: the other end is a live eel
10:45 PM rue_mohr: as long as you can find an A to live-eel adapter, your ok
