11:42 AM rue_bed2: ask at linux-nfs@vger.kernel.org
12:38 PM rue_mohr: so this morning I'm at 1485
12:52 PM Tom_L: one more than yesterday
12:52 PM Tom_L: https://cs448m.github.io/lectures/cam/scientificamerican0952-101.pdf
01:45 PM rue_mohr: first step of opening a pdf is working out which of the 3 locations it got saved to
02:23 PM polprog: 1485 what
02:23 PM polprog: my pdf directory is symlinked to the server one
02:23 PM polprog: or the other way around
02:23 PM polprog: i just click it and firefox opens it
02:23 PM polprog: no command copying
02:32 PM rue_mohr: I'm trying to track if the twitter follower thing is going up down or sideways, but I cant remember the numbers enough anymore
02:32 PM rue_mohr: I have to use command copying because my browsers WILL NOT start adobe
02:33 PM rue_mohr: The links it makes should work, because I have the server nfs-mounted
03:14 PM Tom_L: what ff version?
03:14 PM Tom_L: maybe you need to update it
03:14 PM rue_mohr: no
03:15 PM Tom_L: mine loads them fine
03:15 PM rue_mohr: its intentionally coded into either adobe or firefox
03:15 PM rue_mohr: I dont know who did what
03:15 PM rue_mohr: but I just find and open the file
03:15 PM rue_mohr: which I forgot to finish doing by the way
03:16 PM rue_mohr: I'm fighting to stay awake
03:25 PM Tom_L: who's winning?
03:26 PM rue_mohr: head to head
03:26 PM rue_mohr: I think I'm 3d modeling in my sleep
03:26 PM rue_mohr: trying to do up a motion capture glove
03:30 PM rue_mohr: I think I could do optic flex sensors, but if I do boden cables to sensors, I can do force feedback later
06:33 PM polprog: i wonder
06:33 PM polprog: if i took a string
06:33 PM polprog: attached it to a can on one end
06:33 PM polprog: and to a piezoelectric element on the other
06:34 PM polprog: and connect the piezo to a PBX
06:34 PM polprog: could i dial out on the can...
06:34 PM Tom_L: sure
06:34 PM Tom_L: even if it were 2 cans
06:34 PM Tom_L: can net
06:35 PM Tom_L: isn't that where canbus came from?
06:37 PM * Tom_L feels he lost the connection..
06:41 PM polprog: haha
06:42 PM polprog: i wanted to try SSTV over a can and two string
06:43 PM polprog: since DSL runs over a wet string i wanted to see if i can transmit an image over a string
06:43 PM Tom_L: might come across kinda fuzzy
06:46 PM polprog: as it usually does
06:46 PM polprog: i wonder if i have a piezo element somewhere
06:47 PM Tom_L: polaroid one would be nice n big
06:47 PM polprog: a polaroid?
06:47 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/largebot/largebot1.jpg
06:47 PM Tom_L: polaroid sensor
06:48 PM Tom_L: normally it pings and receives itself and measures the time lapsed
06:48 PM polprog: ah that
06:48 PM Tom_L: good for ~25'
06:48 PM polprog: that's neat
06:48 PM Tom_L: i got a couple of em
07:04 PM Tom_L: https://www.researchgate.net/figure/The-Polaroid-ultrasonic-range-sensor-is-widely-used-for-mobile-robot-obstacle-avoidance_fig1_237340168
07:05 PM Tom_L: http://www.robotstorehk.com/6500.pdf
07:06 PM polprog: looks neat
07:06 PM Tom_L: you had to put a big cap on the board or the pulse would reset your Uc
07:06 PM Tom_L: like 1k uf
07:07 PM polprog: haha
07:08 PM polprog: no separate power supply?
07:08 PM Tom_L: been a long time but i don't think so
07:08 PM Tom_L: just the regular 5v
07:08 PM Tom_L: iirc
08:25 PM rue_mohr: hi
08:25 PM rue_mohr: ugh, I just cant get a clear head
08:32 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_Lzw0VBu-I
08:32 PM Tom_L: local shop last year or so
09:43 PM rue_shop1: someone wrapped it, interesting
09:43 PM rue_shop1: I need to do soemthing
09:50 PM rue_shop1: not too many people seemed to find the force feedback servo thread I put on twitter of interest
09:50 PM rue_shop1: I dont know if anyone understood it
09:51 PM rue_shop1: how far off shore AM I?
10:01 PM rue_shop1: http://ruemohr.org/%7Eircjunk/robots/buddy_III/buddy_III_OL.png
10:26 PM Tom_L: steppin up your game a bit ehh? usually see a hand drawn sketch on a napkin or such :)
10:26 PM rue_mohr: that was ages ago
10:27 PM rue_mohr: I gave up on cadding schematics, there is no point
10:27 PM Tom_L: they look more organized but yeah
10:27 PM rue_mohr: esp if its a program like eagle that cant make a design for local etching or a board house
10:27 PM rue_mohr: when you were makin bots
10:27 PM Tom_L: it can you just need the templates
10:27 PM rue_mohr: it was part of a local robot club?
10:28 PM Tom_L: partially
10:28 PM Tom_L: we hardly ever met
10:28 PM rue_mohr: how did it come togethor?
10:28 PM rue_mohr: or such
10:28 PM Tom_L: i knew one guy forever
10:28 PM Tom_L: he's dead now and i dunno how we came across the others
10:28 PM rue_mohr: huh
10:29 PM rue_mohr: what got him into it?
10:29 PM Tom_L: there was only 4 of us
10:29 PM Tom_L: he'd always been around electronics etc
10:29 PM Tom_L: we both programmed clipper etc
10:29 PM Tom_L: we actually had a bigger clipper group than anything
10:30 PM Tom_L: mostly business men etc
10:30 PM Tom_L: i did most of the cutting edge stuff back then in the group
10:30 PM Tom_L: he did alot of asm stuff
10:31 PM Tom_L: and c hooking it into clipper
10:31 PM Tom_L: not really sure how i got started with bots
10:32 PM Tom_L: pic then 68hc11 then 68332 then avr
10:33 PM Tom_L: how'd you get started?
10:39 PM Tom_L: i used eagle alot back then to have boards made
10:39 PM Tom_L: i'd have to re'learn it now
11:38 PM rue_shop1: clipper was popular for business apps?
11:39 PM rue_shop1: I started with an apple IIe and a mystery prompt
11:39 PM rue_shop1: it seems my curiosity can be a force to be reconed with
11:39 PM rue_shop1: but I was playing with electronics to way back
11:40 PM rue_shop1: I can track back to knowing that a motor would turn one way when connected to a battery, and reverse with the connections
11:40 PM rue_shop1: I'm not sure how I learned that
11:40 PM rue_shop1: hmm, maybe what I need is more curiosity and less task
11:56 PM rue_shop1: http://arduino.ru/forum/apparatnye-voprosy/arduino-i-displei-ot-sotikov-mobilnykh-telefonov?page=63
11:57 PM rue_shop1: cool! information on a screen I pulled from a debit terminal
11:57 PM rue_shop1: the clerk was really pissed off till I showed him how cool the screen was as a re-usable module
