12:54 AM rue_mohr: did they say what the power on the provided spindle is?
01:01 AM rue_mohr: its just a small drill motor isn't it?
09:58 AM aandrew: rue_shop2: yeah the one that came with it is just 120W max
06:16 PM rue_shop1: sigh
06:17 PM rue_shop1: hmm, the fileserver is having issues again
06:17 PM rue_shop1: wonder if I should deal with it now or later
06:17 PM rue_shop1: I think it needs anohter motherboard
06:17 PM rue_shop1: since I upgraded from the P133 its been nothing but trouble
06:18 PM rue_shop1: I want an oscillator in a TO-92
06:18 PM rue_shop1: 730030 for 30khz or soemthing
06:18 PM rue_shop1: 73k30
06:19 PM rue_shop1: where 73M1 would 1Mhz?
06:19 PM rue_shop1: maybe 741m0
06:19 PM rue_shop1: maybe 741M0
06:19 PM rue_shop1: hmmm
07:20 PM aandrew: I don't think I've ever seen a TO92 osc
07:21 PM aandrew: lots of ceramic resonators are *close* to that footprint
07:27 PM rue_shop1: but I want vcc, fout, gnd
07:29 PM Tom_L: https://datasheetspdf.com/pdf/974347/DallasSemiconducotr/DS1065/1
07:30 PM Tom_L: https://datasheets.maximintegrated.com/en/ds/DS1065.pdf
07:32 PM aandrew: why does it have to be TO92?
07:33 PM aandrew: looks like Tom_L's got you covered
07:33 PM aandrew: shit htat reminds me, I had a CNC question for Tom_L but i've forgotten what the question was
07:33 PM aandrew: oh
07:34 PM aandrew: Tom_L: I understand that you use the z homing tool when changing bits, but if you have to physcially move/rotate the work, how do you generally ensure you have put the work piece exactly where it needs to be?
07:35 PM Tom_L: set the cad model up to how it will fit in the vise or fixture
07:35 PM Tom_L: then i'll have a P1 P2 P3 etc
07:35 PM Tom_L: posiition 1 etc
07:36 PM aandrew: so it's a fixturing problem in that you need to have some reliable/repeatable way to orient the work piece in the fixture so it's correctly positioned
07:36 PM Tom_L: that's how industry does it
07:36 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Vise_parts/Speedhandle1.jpg
07:37 PM Tom_L: that was done with 1 program, both sides
07:37 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Vise_parts/Speedhandle_profile.jpg
07:38 PM aandrew: ok, I can see how you can do front/back (like a circuit board) with a couple index holes; you place the raw board and clamp it down, drill 2-3 holes in the extremes so it goes into the spoilboard too, route the top, then when you flip you insert pegs into the holes in the spoilboard and the workpiece is then more or less guaranteed to be in the right place, within tolerance
07:39 PM aandrew: wouldn't one of those cap screws be in the way for the hex cut?
07:39 PM aandrew: or after it's clamped, you remove them?
07:39 PM Tom_L: the clamps were put in place and cap screw removed
07:39 PM aandrew: gotcha
07:39 PM Tom_L: one of them
07:39 PM aandrew: ever remove the wrong one? :-)
07:39 PM Tom_L: nope
07:40 PM Tom_L: i wrote the program, i knew what it was to do
07:40 PM aandrew: I have so much to learn
07:41 PM Tom_L: i'll find another example using 2 fixtures
07:42 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_fixtures.jpg
07:42 PM Tom_L: using 2 fixture offsets
07:42 PM Tom_L: that's not the pic of the vise part running but the setup was the same
07:43 PM Tom_L: profile the part on the right then chamfer 2 sides in the vise
07:43 PM aandrew: this one is harder to visualize
07:43 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_P1.jpg
07:43 PM Tom_L: P1
07:43 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_P2.jpg
07:43 PM Tom_L: P2
07:44 PM Tom_L: then flip P2 to the left fixture and do the bottom
07:44 PM Tom_L: notice they're opposite
07:44 PM Tom_L: the program knows where things are
07:46 PM Tom_L: then rue wanted a mold for them to cast
07:46 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/Mold2.jpg
07:46 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/Mold11.jpg
07:46 PM Tom_L: so we came up with that
07:47 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/Mold_Rev2/Final_mold4.jpg
07:47 PM Tom_L: then that which i think worked better
07:49 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/Mold_Rev2/Top_view5.jpg
07:49 PM Tom_L: and the cad model
07:49 PM Tom_L: both sides
08:02 PM aandrew: Tom_L: aha you made a fixure for it
08:03 PM aandrew: what are the two slots alongside it for? heat break?
08:04 PM Tom_L: yeah
08:04 PM Tom_L: rue's got pics of it in action somewhere
08:05 PM aandrew: so you machined your vice parts, but rue cast his?
08:05 PM Tom_L: i made a mold so he can cast the same part i machined
08:06 PM Tom_L: yes i machined some too
08:08 PM aandrew: it looks like the first pics you did were your machined version, and hten the later ones were the mold to make the same but from a casting
08:09 PM Tom_L: yup
10:14 PM rue_mohr: ok, I'm learning a new limit
10:14 PM rue_mohr: I can only answer about 50-80 questions before my brain just starts to wear down.
10:15 PM rue_mohr: just did a while bunch of quizes
10:23 PM Tom_L: you see the to92 osc?
10:26 PM rue_mohr: there isn't one
10:26 PM rue_mohr: I want there to be tho
10:28 PM Tom_L: i posted a link to one
10:30 PM Tom_L: you said: io + & GND
10:30 PM Tom_L: https://datasheets.maximintegrated.com/en/ds/DS1065.pdf
10:30 PM rue_mohr: damn tom
10:34 PM Tom_L: there is but one
10:37 PM rue_mohr: oh, none available from china
10:40 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, not available anywhere
10:40 PM Tom_L: i found it, i didn't say you could have one :)
10:40 PM Tom_L: there's a dual version in a dip 8
10:41 PM rue_mohr: yea DS1075
10:41 PM rue_mohr: also not available anywhere
10:42 PM rue_mohr: oh wait, I found a china seller that wants $27 for 5
10:42 PM rue_mohr: (1075)
10:43 PM rue_mohr: aha ds1077
10:44 PM rue_mohr: about $1 ea
10:47 PM Tom_L: was there an 85?
10:47 PM rue_mohr: haha
10:47 PM Tom_L: can't remember when i was looking
10:48 PM rue_mohr: tom...
10:48 PM rue_mohr: how much is a t10 worth?
10:48 PM rue_mohr: :) ahahaha
10:48 PM Tom_L: it's got a built in 12mhz osc
10:48 PM rue_mohr: yea
10:48 PM rue_mohr: it can be an osc
10:48 PM rue_mohr: tho, a to-92 would be nice
10:48 PM Tom_L: but it's not TO92
10:49 PM rue_mohr: their 50c ea
10:49 PM rue_mohr: hmm
10:49 PM Tom_L: about the same realestate though
10:50 PM Tom_L: https://datasheets.maximintegrated.com/en/ds/DS1085.pdf
10:50 PM rue_mohr: haha tiny13 costs less than t10
10:50 PM Tom_L: try that one
10:50 PM rue_mohr: no hits
10:50 PM Tom_L: i2c
10:51 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, Tom_L whats that stupid cheap 8051 part number?
10:51 PM Tom_L: https://www.mouser.com/Passive-Components/Frequency-Control-Timing-Devices/Oscillators/Programmable-Oscillators/_/N-7jdx1?Keyword=DS1085&FS=True
10:51 PM Tom_L: in stock
10:52 PM rue_mohr: haha $12 ea
10:52 PM rue_mohr: I was trying to beat https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001002919800.html
10:52 PM Tom_L: oh uh huh, now you're adding stipulations....
10:52 PM rue_mohr: at $1.20 ea
10:52 PM rue_mohr: I know
10:53 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: FX2LP: CY7C6801xA (3,4,5,6)
10:53 PM Tom_L: https://www.mouser.com/Passive-Components/Frequency-Control-Timing-Devices/Oscillators/Programmable-Oscillators/_/N-7jdx1?Keyword=DS1077&FS=True
10:54 PM aandrew: A British couple decided to adopt a German baby. They raised him for years, however they began to worry because he never spoke and they started to supect he was handicapped.
10:54 PM aandrew: When the child was 8, he ate a Strudel and said "It is a little cold."
10:54 PM rue_mohr: apparently I did that too
10:55 PM aandrew: His parents were naturally shocked and asked him, "Wolfgang, why have you never spoken before?"
10:55 PM aandrew: "Up until now, everything has been satisfactory."
10:55 PM rue_mohr: hah
10:56 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, whats cheaper than 33c to use as an oscillator, takes up almost 0 space,
10:56 PM Tom_L: gnite
10:56 PM rue_mohr: gnight, thanks tom
10:57 PM Tom_L: use one of those smt i use on the programmer
10:57 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: I think that's hard to beat
10:57 PM Tom_L: 3 pin and plenty tiny
10:57 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, I have a t10 demo board from ya
10:57 PM Tom_L: you do?
10:57 PM aandrew: hahaha man some good jokes now
10:57 PM rue_mohr: yea
10:57 PM rue_mohr: the t10 is 50c tho, the tiny13 is 33c
10:57 PM aandrew: "Grandpa, how come old people get so wise with age?" "We don't, we just run out of stupid things to do."
10:57 PM Tom_L: how does a snowman make snow babies?
10:58 PM Tom_L: snowballs
10:58 PM aandrew: hahaha
10:58 PM rue_mohr: oooh dear...
10:58 PM Tom_L: with that i'm out
10:58 PM aandrew: 'night
10:58 PM rue_mohr: tiny4 are 70c ea
11:01 PM rue_mohr: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32843158701.html t10 is cheaper...
11:01 PM rue_mohr: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32434109815.html
11:02 PM rue_mohr: I dont know if those have the osc in them or not
11:03 PM rue_mohr: datasheet says no
11:04 PM rue_mohr: for size and cost and flex. it looks like t10 wins
11:04 PM rue_mohr: when size isn't as much of a constraint, the t13 wins on cost
11:13 PM rue_mohr: https://cpldcpu.wordpress.com/2019/08/12/the-terrible-3-cent-mcu/
11:13 PM rue_mohr: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001116278902.html
11:16 PM rue_mohr: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001267390339.html <-- 0.87+2.93 for 10pcs
11:16 PM rue_mohr: not as cheap as a t13 unless...
11:17 PM rue_mohr: shipping goes up with it
11:27 PM rue_mohr: ok, well, huh
11:27 PM rue_mohr: that was an interesting walk
11:28 PM rue_mohr: and that answer is use a t10 / t13
