01:01 AM rue_shop2: hi
01:26 AM polprog: got another display design for you
01:26 AM polprog: http://www.transportszynowy.pl/metrowawstacja10d.jpg
01:27 AM polprog: three leds per pixel
01:27 AM rue_mohr: heh
09:12 AM polprog: https://i.redd.it/xgl5uhtcq1v51.jpg
09:12 AM polprog: :P
09:13 AM polprog: also on that clock notice how the bottom half of the pixels are inverted
09:15 AM * Tom_L snickers
09:15 AM Tom_L: a sparkie would enjoy that
10:35 AM rue_mohr: hahah
11:14 AM rue_mohr: goals for today
11:15 AM Tom_L: cleaned the leaves out of the yard already
11:15 AM rue_mohr: ugh, neverending yard work
11:15 AM rue_mohr: I need something I can finsih
11:16 AM Tom_L: she went to savannah yesterday so i'm here with the kids
11:16 AM rue_mohr: christmas cnc day
11:16 AM rue_mohr: quick make presents
11:16 AM Tom_L: i'm supposed to get a shipping notice monday
11:17 AM Tom_L: soon as i get it, i'll order pulleys
11:17 AM rue_mohr: I turned on the furnace today
11:17 AM rue_mohr: this morning was quite chill
11:17 AM Tom_L: yeah it's been kinda chilly here lately
11:18 AM Tom_L: gonna get the shopping done early
11:18 AM Tom_L: instead of waiting until they're ready to close :)
12:03 PM rue_mohr: beat the rush?
12:51 PM Tom_L: seems someone who will remain nameless waits til the last min....
12:52 PM rue_mohr: yea I need more get up and go
01:27 PM rue_shop1: the output of the encoder is.... ringing....
02:00 PM rue_shop1: educational
02:01 PM rue_shop1: when using one of those encoders, put the common on +5 not ground
02:01 PM rue_shop1: they ring when they discharge a cap, but the ringing is usually out of bounds of the thresholds if its around the + rail
02:19 PM Tom_L: how many of those encoder discs have you put to use so far?
02:19 PM rue_mohr: I dont have a good neck for mounting them in plates
02:19 PM rue_mohr: they are being joined with a bunch of other good parts, that one solution is still shy
02:20 PM Tom_L: nearly forgot about them
02:20 PM rue_mohr: I have a CNC PCB cutout for the plate for them
02:20 PM rue_mohr: which can hold the optics
02:20 PM Tom_L: i think i remember that now
02:20 PM rue_mohr: I have a 3d printed backbox
02:21 PM rue_mohr: just that threaded neck
02:39 PM rue_shop1: huh I have no new 24k smt resistors
02:40 PM polprog: cleaned up the bench a little
02:40 PM Tom_L: need a good micrometer?
02:40 PM Tom_L: https://www.msi-viking.com/Mitutoyo-293-130-10-MDH-High-accuracy-Sub-Micron-Micrometer-0-1-inch
02:54 PM rue_shop1: wow
02:54 PM rue_shop1: I'm ok
02:55 PM polprog: 100nm resolution
02:55 PM polprog: rue, you can measure 6502 traces with that
02:56 PM polprog: it was an 8um process
02:56 PM polprog: woah, tamagotchi used 6502
02:56 PM polprog: it was designed in '96
03:20 PM rue_mohr: it doesn't seem like that long ago
03:20 PM rue_mohr: somehow fitting to use a processor like that on something so 8 bit
03:35 PM polprog: :)
03:51 PM polprog: welp, looks like i have tomorrow busy
03:51 PM polprog: :(
03:57 PM Tom_L: procrastinating on your studies?
03:59 PM polprog: now just watching youtube but when the rest of the famili goes to sleep ill go on with my lectures
04:00 PM polprog: tomorrow i have to help dad with something
04:00 PM polprog: so not much free time
04:05 PM rue_shop1: ARG
04:05 PM rue_shop1: filter is JUST NOT BEHAVING
04:06 PM rue_shop1: OR
04:06 PM rue_shop1: the polling is being slowed down too much by THE SERIAL
04:06 PM rue_shop1: ...
04:13 PM polprog: working on your filter profiler again?
04:18 PM Tom_L: rue_shop1, hear from z at all?
04:27 PM polprog: i was quite interested by his hydroponics setup
04:27 PM polprog: he made some videos about it
04:36 PM polprog: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2v4cZMhShU0
04:55 PM rue_shop1: wtf
04:55 PM rue_shop1: I unplugged the microcontroller and there is still serial data comming out of the usb adapter
04:56 PM Tom_L: magic
05:08 PM rue_shop1: china
05:09 PM rue_shop1: ok I'm sure the rest of the probelms are timing related
05:09 PM rue_shop1: they might have been in the first place
05:10 PM rue_shop1: however, it also looks like dropping off 10V with a zener before the regulator is an isue
05:20 PM rue_shop1: I might need to use a pin change interrupt on a m88
05:27 PM polprog: bought a phillips screwdriver this morning
05:27 PM polprog: it just fell of the magnet that was holding it to the wall
05:27 PM polprog: not a good sign
05:41 PM Tom_L: hehe
05:42 PM polprog: its a size 6 philips (not PZ)
05:43 PM polprog: 100mm length
05:43 PM polprog: looks like a good one for computer screws, longer than my Kia branded phillips/flathead one
05:45 PM rue_mohr: mhm
05:45 PM rue_mohr: I'v extended a few
05:45 PM rue_mohr: I think the remaining problems with the encoder are poll time based
05:46 PM rue_mohr: maybe I should toggle apin and see what my rate is
05:59 PM rue_shop1: 226Hz, that would explain it
05:59 PM rue_shop1: wow even a timer could poll it faster than that
06:00 PM rue_shop1: about 2kHz should be fine
06:02 PM rue_shop1: oh,
06:03 PM rue_shop1: this thing tops out at 1Mhz internal src?
06:10 PM rue_shop1: huh yea, 139kHz without the serial
06:11 PM Tom_L: serial a hungry bit monster
06:13 PM rue_shop1: it waits
06:14 PM rue_shop1: I can do a ~2kHz timer interrupt to poll the encoders
06:14 PM rue_shop1: its quick
06:14 PM rue_shop1: and I dont need the processor for anything else time critical
07:40 PM rue_mohr: reading school material
07:41 PM rue_mohr: I can take about a half hour at a time
07:42 PM rue_mohr: I'd like to attack the fpga again
08:16 PM Tom_L: what's stoppin ya?
08:43 PM rue_mohr: time
08:43 PM rue_mohr: just doing school work in 1/2hr strokes here
09:19 PM Tom_L: yeah my kid is taking some of the crap classes required for his degree.. not happy about it
09:19 PM rue_shop1: crap?
09:21 PM rue_shop1: ok, 1 channel working great...
09:21 PM rue_shop1: both channels, awesome
09:21 PM rue_shop1: 2khz polling is enough
09:23 PM rue_shop1: polled in timer interrupt :)
09:23 PM rue_shop1: so wrong
09:24 PM rue_shop1: next I need to make it operate the DAC
09:24 PM rue_shop1: then add the non-volatile storage
09:25 PM rue_shop1: then a console interface on its serial port :/
09:25 PM rue_shop1: but, 7:30 more reading
09:25 PM rue_shop1: and quizes
09:44 PM Tom_L: some sort of communications class
10:08 PM rue_mohr: hmm
10:08 PM rue_mohr: ok, excersize my brain for a bit
11:10 PM rue_mohr: ugh my head
11:16 PM Tom_L: too much exercise?
11:17 PM rue_mohr: just reading material like that isn't friendly to me
11:22 PM rue_shop1: ok, DAC works
11:23 PM rue_shop1: that was easy
11:23 PM rue_shop1: next NV ram
11:27 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if I should make a 7 segment decoder with a gal
11:27 PM rue_mohr: or an eprom
11:28 PM rue_mohr: almost the same size chip, I can do 3 digits with the eprom
11:28 PM rue_mohr: not sure how that is tho
11:39 PM Tom_L: how many gates are in a gal?
