06:02 PM rue_shop1: https://twitter.com/RueNahcMohr/status/1319406157941755906
06:03 PM rue_shop1: there is, I'm sure there is a ready-to-go baord on ....one of the board sites
06:03 PM Tom_L: what's driving that?
06:03 PM rue_shop1: itself
06:03 PM rue_shop1: internal decoder
06:03 PM rue_shop1: 4 bits going in
06:03 PM Tom_L: what's the chip?
06:03 PM rue_shop1: (and a latch clock)
06:03 PM Tom_L: counter?
06:03 PM rue_shop1: the chip is a 4060 (osc/counter)
06:03 PM rue_shop1: the display is an HP 5082-7340
06:04 PM rue_shop1: one of the twitter guys sent some in to me
06:04 PM Tom_L: maybe i should switch platforms. i never get anything from here
06:04 PM rue_shop1: there is a LOT of noise
06:04 PM rue_shop1: its hard to avoid
06:05 PM Tom_L: i've managed to avoid so far
06:05 PM rue_shop1: remember that scene in airplane where he's just trying to walk to the plane and he has to fight off all the people trying to get his attention about stupid things?
06:06 PM rue_shop1: the world is getting really queit
06:06 PM rue_shop1: its not the virus
06:06 PM Tom_L: i broke down and got a 5mm broach instead of rigging one
06:06 PM rue_shop1: since 2004? its been slowly going downhill
06:06 PM Tom_L: since the whole freenode crackdown and somewhat before
06:07 PM rue_shop1: instead of doing one up from some HSS?
06:07 PM rue_shop1: yea that didn't help freenode, but that wasn't it
06:07 PM rue_shop1: I have 1400+ following me in twitter, but
06:07 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/rotary/Broach/broaching2.jpg
06:08 PM Tom_L: i could have tried that again but i think it's too hard on the axis
06:08 PM rue_shop1: some of them are just doing it cause they like the hand drawn schematics, and they dont understand them
06:08 PM rue_shop1: I'd go down
06:08 PM Tom_L: so now i need your arbor press
06:08 PM rue_shop1: gravity assist
06:08 PM rue_shop1: I'll throw it in the truck :/
06:08 PM Tom_L: not enough room i don't think
06:09 PM Tom_L: too late by then
06:09 PM rue_shop1: I should come down before ... lots of things
06:10 PM rue_shop1: oh yea, during school I should do my passport
06:11 PM Tom_L: i'm avoiding travel for a while
06:11 PM rue_shop1: yea
06:11 PM Tom_L: they say there's gonna be alot of riots soon
06:11 PM Tom_L: if ppl don't get their way
06:12 PM rue_shop1: the problem will be that there is no "one way"
06:12 PM rue_shop1: trump wont handle it
06:12 PM rue_shop1: he doesn't do that
06:12 PM Tom_L: biden is a loon too
06:12 PM Tom_L: it's like playing russian roulette
06:12 PM rue_shop1: would you rather have a maniac or loon?
06:13 PM rue_shop1: I think someone is trying to break the system
06:13 PM Tom_L: biden wins, declared insane and then the VP takes over... no thank you
06:13 PM rue_shop1: hahaha
06:13 PM rue_shop1: so even the backup plan wont work
06:14 PM Tom_L: that could be what they're secretly pushing for
06:14 PM rue_shop1: trump will throw a fit if he doesn't win
06:14 PM Tom_L: hillary sure did
06:14 PM rue_shop1: like a 3 year old
06:15 PM rue_shop1: funny enough, she might have caued less damage
06:15 PM rue_shop1: even if she'd taken the US to war
06:15 PM rue_shop1: not that I'd have called it
06:16 PM rue_shop1: I got a spare room, but if your gonna come over, bring the house?
06:16 PM rue_shop1: I'd really like to pick up that stuff
06:17 PM rue_shop1: I'm told I can arrange a pallette delivery from here
06:17 PM rue_shop1: I need to find out more about that
06:17 PM rue_shop1: ?
06:18 PM Tom_L: you're already out of room
06:18 PM rue_shop1: that'll fix
06:18 PM rue_shop1: I have to do a new house anyhow
06:18 PM rue_shop1: right now the shop is warm and comfy, the house is freezing
06:19 PM rue_shop1: ... the shop has no heat
06:19 PM Tom_L: the water tubes didn't work out?
06:19 PM rue_shop1: rather sharp power bill tho...
06:19 PM rue_shop1: no, I should have insulated under the slab and I skipped it
06:19 PM rue_shop1: all the floor heat goes into the ground
06:20 PM Tom_L: so dig a basement under it
06:20 PM Tom_L: i did
06:20 PM rue_shop1: but if I put a 90w lamp on the table its warm again (if it gets really cold out)
06:20 PM rue_shop1: monolithic foundation
06:20 PM rue_shop1: if I did it again, I'd do it different
06:20 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/house/7.jpg
06:21 PM rue_shop1: yes
06:21 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/house/1.jpg
06:21 PM rue_shop1: http://ruemohr.org/%7Eircjunk/shop/dscn8680.jpg
06:21 PM rue_shop1: http://ruemohr.org/%7Eircjunk/shop/dscn8677.jpg
06:21 PM Tom_L: i remember that
06:21 PM rue_shop1: mono foundation/floor
06:22 PM Tom_L: my garage is but i dug footing and poured it all at once
06:22 PM Tom_L: at least 2'
06:22 PM rue_shop1: yup
06:22 PM rue_shop1: 24 here too
06:22 PM Tom_L: iirc 18" was code at the time here
06:22 PM Tom_L: i forget
06:22 PM rue_shop1: ye I have 18 down, 6 up
06:23 PM rue_shop1: I interpreted it wrong
06:23 PM rue_shop1: had to dig the foundation down 6" by hand
06:23 PM rue_shop1: and the guy with the excavator did 20x20 instead of 24x20
06:23 PM rue_shop1: so I got to dig 4' thru clay
06:23 PM MoonyMoon: hex drivers hay?
06:23 PM rue_shop1: MoonyMoon, yea!!!
06:23 PM rue_shop1: gonna put them on the 6502
06:24 PM rue_shop1: got the single stepping working
06:24 PM polprog: rue_shop1: damn these are beauty
06:24 PM rue_shop1: oh you saw that tho
06:24 PM MoonyMoon: so you see on 7seg?? in hex val??
06:24 PM rue_shop1: https://twitter.com/RueNahcMohr/status/1319406157941755906
06:24 PM rue_shop1: MoonyMoon, ^^ I'm flipping you the bird
06:24 PM rue_shop1: as tom put it
06:25 PM MoonyMoon: love it
06:25 PM MoonyMoon: hay help me source somthing on aliexpress
06:25 PM rue_shop1: got 16 of them
06:25 PM polprog: how much did you pay
06:26 PM rue_shop1: one of the twitter guys sent them to me
06:26 PM rue_shop1: no charge
06:26 PM rue_shop1: so I'm sending some stuff out to someone else
06:26 PM rue_shop1: ...
06:26 PM rue_shop1: oh, those bit slice processors
06:26 PM rue_shop1: to "brad"
06:26 PM rue_shop1: I have an 8080 board to send to *someone* too
06:27 PM MoonyMoon: hay rue_shop1
06:28 PM polprog: rue_shop1: oh, awesome
07:07 PM polprog: this weekend seems to be less work to catch on, so i might do some electronics
07:07 PM polprog: i think the parcel thats coming tomorrow are the pcbs actually
07:40 PM aandrew: rue_shop1: I love those matrix displays
07:40 PM aandrew: I have a bunch somewhere
07:43 PM aandrew: rue_shop1: your shop has radiant heating?
07:50 PM rue_shop1: hah no
07:50 PM rue_shop1: its got no heat
07:50 PM rue_shop1: its just really well insulated
07:50 PM rue_shop1: except under the slab
07:51 PM rue_shop1: which is why the infloor heat is kinda useless
07:51 PM rue_shop1: I can either put 1500w continious for 5 weeks into the slab
07:51 PM rue_shop1: or put a 90w lamp on the table
07:51 PM rue_shop1: same amount of room temp rise
07:52 PM rue_shop1: I should put a power meter on the panel tho
08:03 PM rue_shop1: 00D800
08:03 PM rue_shop1: ox00D800
08:03 PM rue_shop1: 0x00D800
08:03 PM Tom_L: why does that number sound familiar?
08:05 PM rue_shop1: pc video
08:09 PM aandrew: rue_shop1: heh
08:09 PM aandrew: rue_shop1: when I was renting some industrial space it was uninsulated cinder block construction
08:09 PM aandrew: it would take 7 hours with the heat on before it finally drove the moisture out of the concrete and started heating
08:10 PM aandrew: I miss that space, but it was expensive. $500/mo plus utilities, no toilet
08:25 PM rue_shop1: how big was it?
08:25 PM rue_shop1: I had about 400 square feet for $500/mo
08:25 PM rue_shop1: but it was going up and I bought the house
08:25 PM rue_shop1: I built the shop on unpaid rent from moving
08:25 PM rue_shop1: iirc it was like $10k to build
08:30 PM aandrew: it was 525sqft
08:34 PM rue_shop1: not bad
08:56 PM rue_shop1: it works!
09:16 PM Tom_L: yay!
11:29 PM rue_mohr: sorry images in a sec
11:30 PM rue_mohr: so I was playing with finding the white whale again
11:30 PM rue_mohr: didn't get anyone killed yet
11:31 PM rue_mohr: the idea is to come up with the simplest possible circiut for converting data in multiples of 4 bits to 7 segment displays
11:31 PM rue_mohr: I hit a new one
11:31 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170790.jpg
11:31 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170792.jpg
11:32 PM rue_mohr: the idea is that you use a counter to walk thru the segments one at a time, and let a ROM know what segment its on. The rom turns on the display if it wants that segment lit up for the current input its got
11:32 PM rue_mohr: and it worked!
11:33 PM rue_mohr: of course those little displays I got have it all built in
