07:23 AM zhanx: should come clean
07:24 AM zhanx: i have cancer of the kidneys
07:34 AM polprog: i dont know what to say
07:34 AM polprog: im sorry to hear this
07:35 AM polprog: how long ago did you get it diagnosed
07:35 AM zhanx: 2 years ago
07:36 AM zhanx: it was rue know back then i drank a shit load
07:36 AM polprog: ?
07:36 AM polprog: wdym
07:36 AM zhanx: polprog, when i found out i tried to drink myself to death
07:37 AM zhanx: then realized that was dumb
07:37 AM polprog: shit man, thats concerning
07:37 AM zhanx: happens
07:38 AM zhanx: today is my last treatment for it, 3 extra just in case
07:39 AM polprog: how's your condition
07:39 AM zhanx: 6'6" 300 ish still
07:39 AM zhanx: but shit
07:40 AM polprog: 300ish?
07:40 AM zhanx: pounds or was
07:41 AM polprog: ah
07:41 AM zhanx: i need to express the moods i was in
07:41 AM polprog: rue left
07:42 AM polprog: his net seems to have gone down
07:42 AM zhanx: i see that
07:42 AM zhanx: bad timing
07:42 AM zhanx: Tom_L,
07:44 AM aandrew: damn zhanx I'm sorry to hear it
07:45 AM zhanx: dont be
11:02 AM Tom_L: zhanx, take care of yourself
11:03 AM zhanx: Tom_L, its also why i stopped drinking
11:04 AM zhanx: its also why i am keto
11:05 AM zhanx: but i figured i should tell rue_ the truth etc
11:06 AM Tom_L: you got family in Tx?
11:09 AM zhanx: no michigan and korea
11:09 AM zhanx: i am think of going to korea to meet the otherside
11:55 AM aandrew: I thought keto was particularly hard on the kidneys
01:14 PM polprog: aandrew: the parcel came in. thank you <3
01:42 PM aandrew: awesome. I hope you find something useful in all that stuff
01:42 PM polprog: sure
01:42 PM polprog: What's that parport box? some programmer?
01:45 PM aandrew: it's a BDM for HC08/12/16 devices (maybe only one or two of those families)
01:45 PM polprog: That video card, is EGA right?
01:48 PM aandrew: yes I believe so
02:02 PM polprog: that blackfin board looks interesting
02:55 PM Tom_L: christmas in october?
03:00 PM polprog: seems like it
03:26 PM polprog: http://86.57.154.165:82/soft/CodeWarrior%20(Development%20Studio%20for%20Microcontrollers%20V6.2)/
03:27 PM polprog: :)
03:28 PM Tom_L: is that for the HC08 etc?
03:28 PM polprog: yeah
03:28 PM polprog: HCS12
03:28 PM polprog: there is some gnu toolkit too but i want to have both available
03:28 PM Tom_L: they were giving those away some time back. i think i may have a dev board here somewhere unless i tossed it
03:28 PM polprog: aandrew sent me some
03:28 PM Tom_L: i know
03:29 PM Tom_L: iirc it was a 8 pin dip or something small
03:36 PM polprog: this one is a 144(?) pin lqfp
03:36 PM Tom_L: huh
03:36 PM Tom_L: maybe a different dev kit i dunno
04:13 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/devbrds.jpg
08:24 PM rue_: ah yes
08:24 PM rue_ is now known as rue_mohr
08:26 PM MoonyMoon: need link to fpga programmer
08:26 PM Tom_L: cheap chinese one?
08:26 PM Tom_L: or the one rue has
08:26 PM MoonyMoon: yes
08:26 PM Tom_L: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Xilinx-Platform-USB-Download-Cable-Jtag-Programmer-for-FPGA-CPLD-C-Mod-XC2C64A/391876366607?hash=item5b3da6d10f:g:lowAAOxyXzxTGNZ0
08:26 PM rue_mohr: it didn't come up
08:26 PM rue_mohr: ?
08:26 PM Tom_L: that's the one i got
08:27 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, read the log
08:27 PM rue_mohr: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33052982174.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.27424c4durVr1U
08:27 PM rue_mohr: $10
08:28 PM Tom_L: mine works with xilinx tools too but rue's will program spartan 6
08:28 PM Tom_L: linux may be missing drivers for usb programmers using webpack
08:29 PM Tom_L: i think we went thru that once
08:31 PM rue_mohr: oh crap z!
08:32 PM MoonyMoon: thanks
08:33 PM Tom_L: MoonyMoon, gonna get a dev board?
08:33 PM rue_mohr: same as mine
08:33 PM rue_mohr: MoonyMoon, its io is only 3V
08:34 PM Tom_L: you can find mine on ali or some off the wall site for real cheap
08:34 PM Tom_L: or use rues
08:34 PM rue_mohr: so grab some 2N7000 and some 3V<->5V logic converters
08:34 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, are you still here?
08:34 PM rue_mohr: today has been one freaking insane day
08:39 PM MoonyMoon: I got rue's in my shopping cat :)
08:40 PM MoonyMoon: rue_mohr: Diodes and what would you spec for logic conversion?
08:40 PM MoonyMoon: cart*
08:40 PM Tom_L: you may as well use rue's programmer too, it's cheap but only does spartan6 chips
08:41 PM MoonyMoon: yeah thats cool
08:42 PM MoonyMoon: Dinner time ;D
08:42 PM Tom_L: damn he doesn't stick around long
09:10 PM rue_mohr: no, the logic level converter baords
09:11 PM rue_mohr: no, he hates looking at a computer screen
09:26 PM aandrew: I cheat with altera
09:26 PM Tom_L: their tools weren't free were they?
09:26 PM aandrew: well you still need a compatible usb blaster
09:26 PM aandrew: but they made a mistake
09:27 PM rue_mohr: ?
09:27 PM aandrew: they came out with a dev board and used an FT2232 on the dev board, and wrote a library which uses that with all their native software
09:27 PM rue_mohr: ah
09:27 PM aandrew: so now I just put an FT2232 on my boards, program the FT2232's eeprom with their header/id and quartus works just fine with it
09:27 PM aandrew: signaltap, everything
09:28 PM Tom_L: heh
09:28 PM rue_mohr: is that the chip I just linked?
09:28 PM rue_mohr: CJMCU FT232H H
09:28 PM rue_mohr: hmm
09:28 PM aandrew: sounds like it
09:28 PM aandrew: er no
09:29 PM aandrew: FT232 is the slow one
09:29 PM aandrew: FT2232 is the fast one with MPSSE
09:29 PM rue_mohr: oh I'm xilinx
09:29 PM aandrew: right, I know
09:29 PM aandrew: you just triggered my memory
09:29 PM rue_mohr: well tahts interseting to know
09:30 PM rue_mohr: I should see what I have in altera
09:30 PM Tom_L: i think you had a couple
09:31 PM rue_mohr: :) they were old and I dont know if their supported by anything available
09:32 PM Tom_L: why's moon gettin into fpga?
09:34 PM rue_mohr: he's probably not
09:34 PM rue_mohr: he's easily distracted and he's just onto something
09:34 PM rue_mohr: I'll feed it just incase
09:34 PM rue_mohr: winter is comming up and we all need entertainment
09:34 PM Tom_L: feed him my cad cam :)
09:37 PM rue_mohr: think of a young pup chasing leaves in the fall :)
09:39 PM aandrew: ll
09:39 PM aandrew: lol
09:41 PM Tom_L: or a distracted young boy chasing butterflies?
09:44 PM rue_mohr: I dont say that, thats too close to me now
09:48 PM Tom_L: i wasn't insinuating anything
09:48 PM Tom_L: :-)
09:51 PM rue_mohr: I know I'm bad, I'm trying to figure out how to leverage it
09:52 PM Tom_L: i wonder how many times i have to click on 'check order status' before it changes to 'shipped'
09:53 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, have you ordered anything from china lately?
09:54 PM Tom_L: wondering if ship times have doubled or stayed the same
09:55 PM rue_mohr: so today was day 1 of 10 weeks of electrician school
09:55 PM rue_mohr: I'dnever thought about it
09:56 PM rue_mohr: siplex is JUST one way, half duplex is one way at a time
09:56 PM rue_mohr: I have a slow stream of things from china
09:56 PM rue_mohr: oh I heard something crazy did happen in the states tho
09:56 PM rue_mohr: I dont know what
10:00 PM Tom_L: that's how RS422 and RS485 differ
10:01 PM Tom_L: 485 is bidirectional
10:01 PM Tom_L: i don't know either, i don't watch the news hardly ever
10:02 PM Tom_L: how'd the class go?
10:02 PM Tom_L: boreing or educational?
10:06 PM rue_mohr: well, occasional errors like the ring freq of a tel being 30hz
10:06 PM rue_mohr: its 20
10:06 PM rue_mohr: doesn't matter tho
10:06 PM rue_mohr: siplex being *just* one way tho
10:07 PM rue_mohr: its not how I'd have described it, but its not something I put thought into
10:09 PM rue_mohr: HD447880 is the E /E ?
10:09 PM Tom_L: maybe
10:10 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/pdf/hd44780.pdf
10:10 PM Tom_L: says E
10:11 PM rue_mohr: damnit
10:11 PM Tom_L: 450ns min High for E
10:12 PM Tom_L: P. 50
10:16 PM rue_mohr: yea, I needed /E not E
10:19 PM Tom_L: why does ali make you sign in now?
10:20 PM Tom_L: and then it won't load
10:28 PM rue_mohr: for me the signin has been broken for a long time
10:28 PM rue_mohr: I had to log into alibaba, and then switch to aliexpress and bookmark my purchase list
10:28 PM Tom_L: huh
10:29 PM rue_mohr: when I use the bookmark it fail and gives me a working login popup
11:31 PM aandrew: Tom_L: 422 is also bidirectional, but full-duplex (two pairs)
11:32 PM aandrew: although you can level shift and get RS485 bidirectional as well, it's just ... weird (nonstandard)
11:32 PM aandrew: I never heard of siplex before, always simplex
11:33 PM rue_mohr: er, yea sorry
11:33 PM rue_mohr: but simplex being one way oooonly
11:33 PM aandrew: heh, I screwed up a board design by thinking the H-driver had E1 and E2# so I connecte E1 to +V and E2 to gnd, using via-in-pad of course becuase that's waht I always do for high density boards
11:34 PM aandrew: when none of hte 6 h-bridges per board worked, I took a more careful look and it was D1 and D2#, so I had mistakenly disabled every single h-bridge on all the boards
11:34 PM rue_mohr: oops
11:34 PM rue_mohr: *pad*
11:34 PM rue_mohr: liftable pin?
11:35 PM aandrew: and worse, the disable pins had no internal pulls, so I had to remove each, scrape off the pad with the via, put a dab of epoxy down to isolate it, solder it back, then use edge soldering to catch the LCC pin on the side and flywire it over to the right level
11:35 PM rue_mohr: oops
11:35 PM aandrew: 12 signals per board, 10 boards. not fun.
11:36 PM aandrew: https://i.imgur.com/oiOjozs.jpg was the board
11:36 PM rue_mohr: do you think 1/14 duty on a 7 segment is too small?
11:36 PM aandrew: https://i.imgur.com/WtPMbWl.jpg is the detail
11:37 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: depends on the LEDs really and if you're driving enough current
11:37 PM rue_mohr: hmm
