01:50 AM polprog: [05:06] rue_mohr: maybe an atmega9
01:57 AM polprog: what is that, something with extra parity byte? :-)
02:03 AM rue_shop2: ?
02:14 AM rue_mohr: oh 8
02:14 AM rue_mohr: heh
02:19 AM polprog: :) on my way to the market. the weather is nice
02:19 AM polprog: ill see if i can get plcc44 sockets
02:19 AM rue_mohr: k
02:19 AM polprog: what are you building these stone posts for?
02:20 AM rue_mohr: they have lights for seeing the driveway at night
02:20 AM polprog: oh, cool
02:20 AM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> its there for
02:20 AM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> - lights
02:20 AM rue_mohr: <rue_mohr> - visitor notification
02:20 AM rue_mohr: the wood boxes are for a pocket that will have the sensor beam in there
02:21 AM polprog: nice :) gonna ring a bell in the shop?
02:21 AM rue_mohr: or similar, yea
02:21 AM rue_mohr: tell me people are here
02:21 AM polprog: and arm the bear traps
02:22 AM rue_mohr: there have been a few times I'v had vistors, they ahve looked around for me and left thinking I wasn't home
02:22 AM polprog: You live alone?
02:22 AM rue_mohr: yes
02:22 AM polprog: ok
02:22 AM polprog: i like the posts
02:22 AM rue_mohr: I got the RGB strips for them
02:22 AM rue_mohr: wonder if I should prep them tonight
02:23 AM rue_mohr: dont know if I want to protoboard or etch the controller for the power supply
02:23 AM rue_mohr: I think I should protoboard it
02:23 AM polprog: im out if protoboards, need to buy some
02:23 AM polprog: i need to make a cpu module for my lora thingy
02:24 AM polprog: or not, i can run my own code on the module but im not sure how hard is it to implement the lora stack
02:25 AM polprog: so might flash the original firmware again and just use AT cmds
02:25 AM rue_mohr: k
02:27 AM rue_mohr: the indicators came out ok
02:27 AM rue_mohr: machining those screws is trickey
02:27 AM rue_mohr: Tom_L, your asleep, right?
06:09 AM Tom_L: not now
11:40 AM rue_bed2: I machined up some indicators
11:40 AM rue_bed2: drilling a 1/8" hole down the middle of a M5 screw was a bit of a trick
11:41 AM rue_bed2: not lots of margin
01:59 PM Tom_L: threads will pull out
02:03 PM rue__: no tension on the threads
02:05 PM rue__: wtf with freenode
02:05 PM rue__ is now known as rue_mohr
02:05 PM rue_mohr: sdf
02:06 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170536.jpg
02:06 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170537.jpg

02:06 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170540.jpg
02:06 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170544.jpg
02:06 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170545.jpg
02:06 PM rue_mohr: it worked out, 3rd try
02:12 PM rue_shop1: I dont know what the root size IS of a M5 screw
02:14 PM Tom_L: 2.850
02:15 PM Tom_L: no
02:15 PM Tom_L: 4.134
02:15 PM Tom_L: wrong screw
02:16 PM Tom_L: that gives you a .0188" wall
02:16 PM Tom_L: not much
02:17 PM Tom_L: and that's if you're dead center
02:17 PM Tom_L: looks good though
02:18 PM rue_shop1: yea, I kinda figured I should be able to see light thru the metal
02:20 PM Tom_L: were those hex heads?
02:21 PM Tom_L: i wish your pics were bigger
02:28 PM rue_shop1: hex socket
02:28 PM rue_shop1: I got them from china
02:28 PM rue_shop1: I think using normal hex heads would have been easier
02:28 PM rue_shop1: not sure if I can get them tho
02:29 PM Tom_L: looks like you got it now
02:29 PM rue_shop1: yep, I should sit down and do them all up
02:29 PM rue_shop1: while I have everything ready
02:29 PM rue_shop1: drilling them out is patience testing
02:30 PM Tom_L: trick: screw a hex nut clear up to the shoulder tight. add another nut but not all the way up. use that to center the part
02:30 PM rue_shop1: yea, I didn't have a link nut to do it with
02:30 PM Tom_L: no m5 hex nuts?
02:31 PM rue_shop1: nuts, but I wanted a link nut to hold the threads steady while drilling
02:31 PM Tom_L: in your vast piles and piles and piles....
02:31 PM rue_shop1: that first one acually deformed, lengthened while I was drilling it
02:31 PM Tom_L: not centered
02:31 PM Tom_L: was cutting thru the thread
02:31 PM rue_shop1: also, too much pressure/heat
02:32 PM Tom_L: try one that way once
02:32 PM Tom_L: the head facing out
02:33 PM Tom_L: flatten the head the way you want it, spot it and drill
02:33 PM Tom_L: holding by the hex nuts
02:34 PM Tom_L: one nut against the head and the other near the end of the screw
02:34 PM Tom_L: machining will only tighten the nut more
02:40 PM rue_shop1: I did them with the head out, I put multiple nuts on it to hold everything
02:41 PM Tom_L: oh
02:41 PM rue_shop1: I had to use that shaped drill but as a boring bar to cut the 6mm pocket
02:41 PM rue_shop1: the drills kept going off center
02:41 PM Tom_L: yeah you may want a tiny pilot hole all the way thru first
02:41 PM Tom_L: something with a better point than an .125
02:41 PM rue_shop1: my lathe REALLY needs alignment
02:42 PM Tom_L: better than mine
02:42 PM rue_shop1: maybe not
02:42 PM rue_shop1: I should make some points and show you
02:42 PM rue_shop1: I dont know if the bed is twisted, or if its just out
02:42 PM Tom_L: mine is older than you
02:43 PM Tom_L: by several yrs
02:43 PM Tom_L: and i've had it nearly that long... got it used
02:43 PM rue_shop1: yea, which is why I think yours is prolly closer
02:43 PM Tom_L: damn i gotta drive alot tomorrow
02:44 PM rue_shop1: hmm
02:44 PM rue_shop1: to canada? :)
02:44 PM rue_shop1: business trip, I need my lathe aligned :)
02:46 PM Tom_L: heh not quite that far
02:47 PM Tom_L: she want's me to go to savannah next month but i'm not going
02:47 PM Tom_L: that's 16-18 hrs
02:47 PM Tom_L: 1 way
02:48 PM rue_shop1: ok
02:48 PM rue_shop1: I went in to the house for chips and came back with tea
02:49 PM rue_shop1: DS1307 chips...
02:49 PM Tom_L: forget the chips?
02:49 PM rue_shop1: try again
02:49 PM rue_mohr: chips are in my hand...
02:55 PM rue_shop1: ok I'm back
02:55 PM rue_shop1: with tea too
02:56 PM Tom_L: don't forget which hand has what
02:59 PM * rue_shop1 chews a crunchie thing...
03:00 PM Tom_L: i just wish i had a reason to use the lathe soon
03:00 PM Tom_L: once the motor comes, i still gotta order pullies
03:00 PM rue_shop1: darn
03:00 PM rue_shop1: you know the ratio your going for now tho right?
03:01 PM rue_shop1: did you solve the encoder pulley stacking design?
03:02 PM Tom_L: i don't know the center distance or i'd order them
03:02 PM Tom_L: belt length
03:02 PM Tom_L: i'll solve that on the fly
03:03 PM rue_shop1: ... did you not machine a pulley once?
03:03 PM rue_shop1: thoguth you had a macro for that
03:04 PM Tom_L: no not these
03:04 PM Tom_L: i have sprockets and gear macros
03:04 PM Tom_L: i still need the center distance for the belt length
03:04 PM Tom_L: that's the holdup
03:06 PM Tom_L: the gear macro has flaws
03:06 PM Tom_L: and i'm not sure how to address it
03:45 PM rue_mohr: well, I gave up on writing a gear program and bought the woodgears.ca software
03:49 PM Tom_L: mine is close but the start and endpoints don't exactly meet since i use an array and build one tooth
03:50 PM rue_mohr: interesting, the tech school said the books wold be shipped free, but aparently free now means $9.95
03:52 PM Tom_L: heh
03:53 PM Tom_L: they make half their money on books you don't use
03:55 PM rue_mohr: yea did n't buy those ones
03:56 PM Tom_L: unless they were good reference books i wouldn't either
03:56 PM Tom_L: funny, they gave us the spiral bound catia books
06:51 PM rue_mohr: polprog, ...
06:51 PM rue_mohr: the PN2222 is more than 100Mhz...
06:52 PM polprog: hmm, ill have to see
06:52 PM polprog: well
06:52 PM rue_mohr: .. I think
06:52 PM rue_mohr: am I mixed up?
06:52 PM polprog: we will be doing some retro oscillators then
06:53 PM rue_mohr: PN2222 250-300Mhz
06:53 PM polprog: BC537 gas a GBP of 300MHz
06:53 PM rue_mohr: k
06:53 PM polprog: whats the b-c capacitance on it
06:53 PM polprog: lol
06:54 PM polprog: max 6pF
06:54 PM rue_mohr: 30 - 25pF
06:54 PM polprog: well, we gonna play with the old transistora then
06:54 PM rue_mohr: oh right
06:54 PM rue_mohr: says 8pF here
06:54 PM polprog: yeah, the BFAP19 are 8 pF
06:55 PM polprog: maybe i should see if there are BFP479's, there are listed as 1200MHz
06:55 PM rue_mohr: if you want CRAZY high freq transistors
06:55 PM rue_mohr: get the grid amps from a VGA monitor
06:56 PM rue_mohr: like 1.2GHz
06:56 PM rue_mohr: 8-|
06:56 PM rue_mohr: CRT of course
06:56 PM polprog: yeah, ill have to find some dead crts
06:56 PM rue_mohr: monitors
06:56 PM polprog: yes
06:56 PM rue_mohr: but some of them use a chip
06:57 PM polprog: yes yes
06:57 PM polprog: i should take on my current controlled colpitts
06:57 PM polprog: and try some other CC oscillators
06:57 PM polprog: :)
06:57 PM polprog: nighters for now
06:58 PM polprog: 2 am again
06:58 PM rue_mohr: that armstrong osc for the joule thief worked awesome
07:02 PM rue_shop1: so, at some point I'd etched a bunch of 3 channel button debouncers
07:38 PM rue_shop1: damnit
07:38 PM rue_shop1: I judt disconverted that when the tarp blew off the boiler tank (quite a while ago) it exposed a pool of antifreeze
07:39 PM rue_shop1: recently the cats throat is all messed up (cant talk) and I sure as to hell hope he didn't get into it
07:39 PM rue_shop1: he's had his throat messed up for a few weeks
07:39 PM rue_shop1: the antifreeze in the boiler is really weak
07:39 PM rue_shop1: :S
08:09 PM Tom_L: i thought nowdays they made the stuff taste bad to them
08:30 PM rue_shop1: I think it was the old stuff
08:30 PM rue_shop1: I'd have to buy about $800 in antifreeze ro properly do the boiler, so I put in what I could find
08:54 PM aandrew: yea antifreeze is really sweet, I remember dad teaching me that when I was a kid
08:55 PM aandrew: it was (amazinly) only recently that they actually started adding bittering agents
08:57 PM rue_shop1: I didn't know it was accessible
08:57 PM rue_shop1: the lid blew off a long time ago and I just didn't bother to put it back
08:57 PM rue_shop1: the rain filled it up
09:02 PM rue_mohr: hsi voice went about the same time as all the smoke and stuff was going around, I didn't think much of it
09:03 PM rue_mohr: but I couldn't really tell he wasn't eating much and didn't have much energy
09:03 PM rue_mohr: IS a cat
09:03 PM aandrew: indeed
09:03 PM aandrew: hope the little furball is okay
09:03 PM aandrew: I miss having pets
09:04 PM rue_mohr: yea
09:04 PM rue_mohr: I mean, I'm still not sure
09:04 PM rue_mohr: its been 2 weeks
09:04 PM Tom_L: probably late to treat it now if it were anything
09:04 PM Tom_L: activated charcoal is about all there is to do i think
09:04 PM rue_mohr: apparenlty if he did, it would have to be treated in 3 hours
09:04 PM rue_mohr: but I just dont know
09:04 PM rue_mohr: maybe he didn't
09:05 PM rue_mohr: its an area they have been known to be abel to get to
09:05 PM rue_mohr: hmm
09:05 PM rue_mohr: I might have seen him around there recently, bad emmory
09:06 PM rue_mohr: I only fixed it up cause the insulation was falling off
09:06 PM rue_mohr: put it back and fixed the cover
09:09 PM rue_mohr: ok, which thing do I copy around to make ssh not ask for a password
09:09 PM Tom_L: i'd think there would be other symptoms by now
09:10 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: you take your .pub keyfile and append it to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys
09:10 PM aandrew: ssh-copy-id can do this but really I find that more of a hassle
09:11 PM aandrew: ssh *used* to care about rsa keys in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys and dsa keys in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys2 but I've discovered that for some time not ssh does not care which authorized_keys[2] file you use
09:29 PM rue_mohr: everything has been gradually falling out of sync
09:29 PM rue_mohr: lots of replaced hardwarew
09:35 PM rue_mohr: ... why do two machines on my network think they are freebee6?
09:36 PM Tom_L: A) you told them B) they're developing a mind of their own.
09:39 PM rue_mohr: ooooh
09:39 PM rue_mohr: I see, its running docker
09:39 PM rue_mohr: which created a second virtual network interface, that has its own ip address
09:40 PM rue_mohr: ok, so I think I got all the machines
09:40 PM rue_mohr: ah shelflife isn't running
09:41 PM rue_mohr: house: router, automation server, phone system, 3d printer machine, bed laptop, main workstation
09:42 PM rue_mohr: shop: file server, 3d printer and cnc station, workstation, workstation, jukebox,
09:42 PM rue_mohr: and the one that runs the boiler
09:42 PM rue_mohr: I think thats everyone
09:44 PM rue_mohr: ok, I need to learn about the operational difference of the MCP4725 and the MCP4728
09:44 PM rue_mohr: I think the code ports easy
09:48 PM Tom_L: too much to keep track of
09:58 PM rue_mohr: polprog, https://twitter.com/hn12v1_jp/status/1144051206282608640/photo/1
09:58 PM rue_mohr: see the rectifier?
09:58 PM rue_mohr: oh damnit, I dont have a dream-encoder
10:01 PM rue_mohr: arg, all these things to do
10:01 PM rue_mohr: dont feel like doing any of them
10:06 PM rue_mohr: ok bill paid
10:06 PM rue_mohr: set up printer for windows
10:06 PM rue_mohr: ...
10:07 PM rue_mohr: atleast its not like trying to setup a printer for linux...
10:40 PM zhanx_workshop_: you need sound rue https://youtu.be/uzVz6pwP2bM
10:58 PM rue_mohr: ...
10:58 PM rue_mohr: better not be your new pump
11:00 PM rue_mohr: strainer
11:03 PM rue_mohr: you can it for 3 HOURS to dry it!?
11:03 PM zhanx_workshop_: it was on the side of the road
11:04 PM rue_mohr: no the smelter
11:04 PM zhanx_workshop_: 9
11:04 PM rue_mohr: ooof
11:26 PM rue_mohr: ok, printer is installed on the laptop
11:26 PM rue_mohr: I need to work out an audio device
11:55 PM rue_bed2: I cant help but think I didn't do somehting I was supposed to this weekend
