12:24 AM rue_shop1: yup
12:30 AM rue_shop1: pump started to act up at the end
12:42 AM rue_mohr: 240V 12A
05:24 AM zhanx_workshop: morning rue_mohr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8BbAfpKvEA
06:41 AM zhanx_workshop: ok second disc run done
08:26 AM rue_mohr: cat is hissing at the rain
08:26 AM rue_mohr: ok.
09:11 AM rue_mohr: zhanx_workshop, you found a tractor!
09:31 AM * polprog got a hot air station ^_^
09:31 AM rue_mohr: ah nice, bbl!
12:42 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/reflow.jpg
12:52 PM aandrew: that's a little dry
03:11 PM polprog: yeah...
03:11 PM polprog: i should redo it
03:11 PM polprog: and order PCBs with tinning
03:13 PM polprog: i had some issues with the paste syringe...
03:13 PM polprog: when i was trying to make it work with the needle i pulled the plunger... so some air got into it and it dried overnight
03:14 PM polprog: new syringe works ok with 1.2mm needle
03:17 PM polprog: i also made a mistake with the module footprint, the pad order is all wrong
03:17 PM polprog: i have to redo the PCBs
05:01 PM Tom_L: i used to use stencils with the paste
05:02 PM polprog: might have to order that too
05:02 PM polprog: the new paste works ok with the needle
05:02 PM polprog: so its just a case of fixing up the PCB...
05:02 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/Stencils/stencil_form4.jpg
05:03 PM Tom_L: i hand soldered ~200 of those before i started using stencils
05:03 PM polprog: yep
05:03 PM polprog: im pretty sure my board house offers that
05:03 PM polprog: i should be writing all this down
05:04 PM Tom_L: https://ohararp.com/stencils/
05:04 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/Stencils/stencils.jpg
05:05 PM polprog: kapton stencils 25 usd, out of stock :/
05:05 PM Tom_L: you used to be able to get a 8 x 11 sheet of them for that
05:06 PM Tom_L: i'd so sevreral designs at once so the cost was spread out
05:06 PM polprog: that makes sense
05:06 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/batch1.jpg
05:07 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/boards1.JPG
05:07 PM Tom_L: those were from gold phoenix
05:07 PM polprog: wow, nice
05:08 PM Tom_L: probably 4-5 sheets of boards there ea
05:09 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/Boxes/USBTinyMkII_open.jpg
05:09 PM Tom_L: avr programmers
05:09 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/Boxes/blue3_batch.jpg
05:10 PM polprog: yeah, i know them. good job ;)
05:10 PM Tom_L: haven't done any in quite a while now
05:11 PM Tom_L: cut the boxes out on the sherline
05:13 PM Tom_L: i opted for the toaster oven over a hot air station
05:13 PM polprog: i was considering that but i have next to no space
05:14 PM polprog: how the hell did i manage to mix up the pin numbers though
05:23 PM polprog: at least the board has an eprom/eeram footprint, so i can have 20 eeram expansion cards for my thingy
05:24 PM aandrew: hm, so far 2/3 of the 2.5" IDE drives I grabbed have nothing of interest on them
05:24 PM aandrew: 30G, 160G and now a 20G I'm trying to check
05:25 PM aandrew: anyone have any interest in 2.5" **PATA** drives (not SATA)
05:34 PM polprog: how are you checking?
05:52 PM aandrew: just a quick mount
05:52 PM aandrew: although tis first 2.5" SATA drive I'm checking has an encrypted home, that was fun
05:52 PM aandrew: but it contains what I needed to find so I'm happy
05:52 PM aandrew: now I just gotta get it off the drive before the drive dies
06:09 PM polprog: what did you need to find?
06:10 PM polprog: also if you are a feeling like being a jerk ;) and have some time to loose, you can run recovery software on some of the disks
06:11 PM aandrew: nah if the data isn't easy to get at none of it is that important to try to screw with recovery software
06:11 PM aandrew: I was specifically looking for hte devicenet stack I wrote like 15y ago
06:12 PM polprog: ah, i thought these were some used drives you bought
06:15 PM aandrew: no no no
06:15 PM aandrew: from my stash
06:18 PM polprog: heh, microsoft is down just in time we start uni (next week)
06:18 PM polprog: guess who's uni runs 100% on ms teams
06:19 PM aandrew: lol
06:19 PM aandrew: I did *not* like teams
06:24 PM polprog: they are comically bad
06:25 PM polprog: "I dont care if it didnt upload, there is always the summer exam term" - our maths prof, to someone from the group, guilty as charged
06:26 PM polprog: (we had exams done over teams)
06:26 PM aandrew: yeah how does that work
06:26 PM aandrew: they can't make you retake because of their technical screwup can they?
06:27 PM polprog: frankly, its a greay area
06:27 PM polprog: gray*
06:27 PM polprog: in theory the uni has moodle, and thats where all online tests should be carried out
06:27 PM polprog: but i bet no one wants to enter the tests into moodle
06:28 PM polprog: so we just get a teams "assignment" that shows up at a specified time and is due at another specified time, and have to send out photographed/scanned answers
07:14 PM polprog: https://www.revk.uk/2017/12/its-official-adsl-works-over-wet-string.html
07:15 PM Tom_L: :)
07:17 PM polprog: i wanted to run SSTV over a can and two strings
07:17 PM polprog: string and two cans*
07:17 PM polprog: i think ill just go to sleep
09:17 PM rue_mohr: hmm
09:18 PM rue_mohr: I wonder what the bandwidth is of a string
09:54 PM Tom_L: depends on the salt content i'm sure
09:58 PM Tom_L: where'd you source your stone?
09:59 PM rue_mohr: all over
09:59 PM rue_mohr: we have lots around here
09:59 PM rue_mohr: +-30 min drive
09:59 PM Tom_L: seems to me there was a rock quarry under your shop :)
09:59 PM rue_mohr: heh
09:59 PM rue_mohr: no, clay tho
09:59 PM Tom_L: gets pretty hard
10:02 PM Tom_L: you care to venture a guess what potential a signal has if when you take it to gnd it's active?
10:02 PM Tom_L: i wonder if it floats at 5v?
10:04 PM Tom_L: i noticed last night i was almost out of ssd space
10:04 PM Tom_L: i think i had too many iso images on it
10:04 PM Tom_L: after moving them, i freed up over 250gb
10:07 PM rue_mohr: ?
10:07 PM rue_mohr: potential, signal hu?
10:07 PM rue_mohr: can you rephrase that?
10:08 PM rue_mohr: I have LOTS of duplicate files on my system and they aren't small :/
10:08 PM Tom_L: the vfd manual is sparce but they show F/R, ENA and BR active to GND
10:08 PM rue_mohr: and I have yet to merge the filesystems since the shop server and my home server are on the same site
10:08 PM Tom_L: i'm wondering what their open voltage is
10:09 PM rue_mohr: oh, 3.3 or 5V
10:11 PM Tom_L: so if it were 3.3, maybe i could put a resistor in series with the input signal?
10:11 PM Tom_L: i should stop guessing and just wait. i'm getting impatient though
10:20 PM rue_mohr: its taking a while eh?
10:21 PM Tom_L: he said it would
10:21 PM Tom_L: but i'm at the timeframe it should ship soon
10:21 PM Tom_L: i emailed for an update this evening
10:52 PM Tom_L: huh. i was gonna finish the rpi install and forgot
11:23 PM rue_mohr: I wonder what I forgot
