03:15 AM rue_mohr: and I slept
03:22 AM rue_mohr: but I didn't eat
03:22 AM rue_mohr: so now I'm awake
04:03 AM polprog: morning
04:05 AM Tom_L: morning
04:08 AM polprog: no hot air station in sight
04:12 AM Tom_L: no spindle motor in sight
04:12 AM Tom_L: sad situation.
08:40 AM aandrew: rue_mohr: I haven't had luck at the pharmacy for needles useful for our kind of stuff. Vet clinics would be a better bet. The needles they use for cattle get quite large
09:39 AM polprog: i guess im rue now ;)
09:39 AM polprog: ill see at the market tomorrow
10:25 AM rue_mohr: MoonyMoon, that you?!!?
10:26 AM rue_mohr: phone me so silly early in the morning
11:14 AM MoonyMoon: rue_mohr: Yeah thats me
11:15 AM Tom_L: and he wonders why he gets nothing done!
11:15 AM MoonyMoon: sleeping in too much?
11:15 AM Tom_L: absolutely
11:16 AM MoonyMoon: XD he's allways on my case for not staying up late enough :P
11:17 AM Tom_L: i don't unless i got a project goin
11:18 AM MoonyMoon: yeah
11:44 AM aandrew: polprog: oh sorry I thought it was rue who was getting needles for paste
11:44 AM polprog: :)
11:44 AM aandrew: I think I need to buy a little 3018 or even smaller CNC mill just for plastic stuff
11:45 AM aandrew: I'd like to do sheet metal/alu but those are too underpowered for that from what I'm seeing
11:46 AM aandrew: I also need to take a closer/more measured approach to calibrating my printer
11:47 AM aandrew: I relaized that perhaps part of my issue is too much retraction. small moves are underextruded because the head is empty, but longer lines are good (after a bit) because the head's primed again
11:55 AM aandrew: if I can get my 3D printing game a good step or two up it will put off the desire/need for a small plastic CNC
11:58 AM aandrew: a nice 3040 is DAYUM expensive, and that's not even that nice a CNC
11:59 AM aandrew: maybe I should just save my pennies and put a proper DC motor on my bigass knee mill
11:59 AM aandrew: that's not CNC but I could then spend the $1000 I could have spent on a 3040 to CNC-ify the knee mill
11:59 AM aandrew: although I suspect even cheap CNCing that thing would be $2500
12:00 PM aandrew: I have some really nice beefy DC motors with encoders on them, I could spend 3 months building servo boards for them and save some money :-)
12:04 PM aandrew: I can't remember where I got these from, but they're awesome and I have like 6 of them
12:18 PM Tom_L: polprog, https://www.amazon.com/Plastic-Stainless-Applicators-Cleaning-Smithing/dp/B07FBW576M/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=Oil+Bottle+With+Needle+Applicator&qid=1601140657&sr=8-5
12:40 PM aandrew: so back to my horticulture talk...
12:41 PM aandrew: I think if I make a simple rough slat box to put the potatoes in, and some burlap to line the box/cover them up, I can aim a couple regular old 12V fans to circulate air
12:43 PM aandrew: I think I'll get one of those ultrasonic misters and a liquid level float sensor to create humidity, and a second set of fans to more or less move air OUT of the box (rather than around it), wire all that and a temp/humi sensor up to a random arduino I can have it maintain 95% humidity irrespective of temperature (RH takes temp into account) and keep a fairly optimal environment around for the potatoes
12:43 PM aandrew: and if I buy a bag of apples and thorw them in there too that should provide the ethylene
12:43 PM aandrew: I should be able to repeat for carrots and onions
12:44 PM aandrew: that should keep some fresh veg around all winter without having to buy them every couple weeks
12:47 PM polprog: Tom_L: hmm, that looks good
12:48 PM polprog: i wonder if i can get something like that here cheaper
12:49 PM polprog: a syringe with a luer mount would be useful, but the paste i have comes with regular push mount syringes
12:50 PM polprog: idk whats the name
12:50 PM polprog: but if i had a luer mount syringe i could get a jar of paste and just move some
12:52 PM polprog: oh, useful link https://how-to.fandom.com/wiki/How_to_identify_integrated_circuit_(chip)_manufacturers_by_their_logos%2Fall_logos
01:15 PM Tom_L: most of those are the same needles so if you wanted to remove them from a bottle it would likely work
01:15 PM Tom_L: at least the ones i get are
01:20 PM aandrew: I kind of want to know about rue_mohr's blind date now...
01:23 PM polprog: i sincerely *hope* he means furries, not animals
01:25 PM rue_mohr: hah
01:25 PM aandrew: well he is way up in the boonies
01:25 PM polprog: oh hello there
01:26 PM rue_mohr: no, it just thought up when I saw willows tweet on the wing test
01:26 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: so did this person show up *in* costume or just talk about it?
01:26 PM rue_mohr: no dates for Rue.
01:26 PM aandrew: I suspect you have the same issue I had, living in a small town
01:26 PM aandrew: you ahve to really travel to get outside of your own gene pool :-)
01:27 PM rue_mohr: I searched from here to germany, I cant find anyone
01:27 PM rue_mohr: I gave up
01:29 PM polprog: :(
01:29 PM polprog: ...same
01:29 PM aandrew: it's usually when you stop looking that someone appears
01:30 PM aandrew: although for that to happen you kind of have to be out and about in society
01:30 PM rue_mohr: I got on twitter
01:30 PM rue_mohr: mostly to find like minded people
01:30 PM aandrew: yep that is something I really do enjoy about twitter
01:31 PM polprog: i found furries lol
01:31 PM rue_mohr: hah
01:31 PM polprog: not that i mind, they are into computers as well
01:31 PM aandrew: you can kind of curate your space. it was rough at the start but now it's really locking in and most of the recommendations are pretty spot-on
01:31 PM rue_mohr: lots of them, all technical people of some sort
01:31 PM rue_mohr: makes a person wonder...
01:31 PM aandrew: although I find I still like to get into pissing contests online, which I have to really stop doing
01:32 PM polprog: oh yeah. i shielded myself from politics and the like online
01:32 PM rue_mohr: yea have to stay away from the politics
01:32 PM rue_mohr: ok, in about a half hour, I have someone comming by for a connector
01:32 PM polprog: rue_mohr, whats up with the 6502 post?
01:32 PM rue_mohr: ah, your not following someone I think I am
01:33 PM aandrew: I mean I don't do any trump shit but I do ask about facets of US politics and bash pretty much ALL of our own politicians
01:33 PM aandrew: they're all fucking aweful
01:33 PM polprog: tomorrow im going to the market to see if i can get PLCC44 sockets for the 8751's and some 29f040 eproms
01:33 PM aandrew: polprog: IIRC someone ahd made a 555 osc for a 6502 but rue mentioned the 6502 could take RC osc natively
01:33 PM polprog: ah
01:33 PM rue_mohr: https://twitter.com/MrTomsWorld/status/1309882597888196608
01:34 PM rue_mohr: he used a 555 for the clock, and a 7414 ( I think) for the reset debounce
01:34 PM aandrew: polprog: describe this market - is it like a flea market where random people bring their stuff to swap/sell?
01:34 PM polprog: 29f040 is pretty big, but i could use it for the 8751... and dos for needs one
01:34 PM rue_mohr: I just used passives
01:34 PM polprog: aandrew: its something in between. its a market square but every sundap people with electronics come, there are some flea spots but mostly its usual sellers
01:35 PM polprog: they usually set up tables and sell parts and stuff from the back of their car
01:35 PM polprog: i could take a pic tomorrow if you want
01:35 PM aandrew: I still get a real kick out of rue using a ... 6502? z80? as a big counter (hardwired databus for "NOP" and just let the address bits fly) for sinewave lookup
01:35 PM polprog: haha yeah. that was brilliant
01:35 PM aandrew: polprog: I'd like that, thank you
01:35 PM aandrew: it's been ages since I went to a flea market or hamfest, they're bad for me I want to buy everything
01:35 PM rue_mohr: I acciedently shorted one of the clock lines to +5 and I think I damaged it a bit, the 6502 still seems to work with external injected clock
01:36 PM polprog: its neither a flea market nor hamfest - thats why its interesting
01:36 PM polprog: theres all sorts of stuff, from brand new parts to boxes of recycled electronics rubbish
01:36 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, the funny thing was that the 6502 was the fastest out of all the processors I tried
01:36 PM aandrew: fastest for a given input clock?
01:36 PM rue_mohr: polprog, download me, I want to come too!
01:36 PM polprog: :)
01:36 PM rue_mohr: aandrew, fastest flat out
01:37 PM polprog: shame we are all so far apart
01:37 PM rue_mohr: the 6809 has another /4 in there
01:37 PM rue_mohr: so, disite being a faster chip, it cant count as fast
01:38 PM polprog: i learnt that 8051 takes 12 clocks for a xor
01:39 PM rue_mohr: 12 clocks for anything iirc
01:39 PM polprog: most of the stuff takes 12 clock cycles
01:39 PM polprog: yeah
01:39 PM rue_mohr: atleast
01:39 PM polprog: why the hell
01:39 PM rue_mohr: the *new* ones have a special mode that takes it to 1 or 2 ea
01:39 PM polprog: yeah jumps take 24
01:39 PM rue_mohr: default is 12 for compatability
01:39 PM polprog: MUL A, B is 48
01:40 PM rue_mohr: this is where you learn that clock speed means nothing
01:40 PM rue_mohr: PIC is /4
01:40 PM rue_mohr: AVR is /1
01:40 PM polprog: yeah.. id like to know what is going on inside that takes that much
01:40 PM polprog: yeah AVRs are damn fast ;)
01:40 PM rue_mohr: state machines,
01:40 PM rue_mohr: 6502 is /2
01:41 PM rue_mohr: but the address bus counts twice if you use an instruction that loads an argument
01:41 PM aandrew: not many AVRs have a parallel address bus
01:41 PM rue_mohr: otherwise, the second cycle is just a dummy
01:41 PM polprog: i think i saw an atmega that had
01:41 PM polprog: some obscure 51-like one
01:43 PM rue_mohr: gee my fur is growing fast latley
01:43 PM polprog: o_O
01:43 PM rue_mohr: shave it all back again...
01:43 PM rue_mohr: I have to go and cut rocks, its not awesome out
01:44 PM aandrew: yeah I just cut back like 300lbs of hydrangeas
01:44 PM rue_mohr: oof
01:44 PM aandrew: now I gotta go properly cut the waste down so it fits in yard bags
01:44 PM rue_mohr: borrow a chipper?
01:45 PM aandrew: I guess I could also just haul it all back into the woods and the rabbits could use it as a brier
01:45 PM aandrew: but that shit won't decompose anytime soon
01:45 PM aandrew: 8051 is 12 clocks/insn? jesus what's it do, make a coffee, check the mail, walk the dog and then think about performing the task?
01:46 PM rue_mohr: :)
01:52 PM polprog: i wanted to shave but i realized i dont look half bad now
01:52 PM rue_mohr: somewhere there is probably a desciption on what all 12 states are
01:52 PM rue_mohr: the Z80 isn't stellar
01:52 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if that means you can happily fit 12 8051 on the same bus, all operating phase shifted
01:52 PM rue_mohr: maybe 6
02:02 PM polprog: haha, that would be something
02:47 PM polprog: im genuinely mad because i dont have any project can push forward
02:47 PM polprog: the PCB assembly waits for the damn hot air station, the 87c51's wait for the PLCC sockets (and even then ill have to make a dev board for them)
04:29 PM aandrew: https://bit.ly/3kPRMbx dammit rue_mohr not like that
04:30 PM polprog: New York State Police confirmed the arrest and said it came after Gange was given a warning to remove the statue from public view.
04:30 PM polprog: shouldve carved a giant wooden condom and put it on
04:31 PM aandrew: well we do know he's working with stone, maybe that's what he's up to
04:33 PM polprog: grr. i tried to make a wooden syringe pump
04:33 PM polprog: it broke when i used it
04:33 PM polprog: i kinda expected that though
06:49 PM rue_mohr: hah
06:50 PM rue_mohr: polprog, what are you trying to do?
06:53 PM polprog: a hand syringe pump, squeeze type
06:53 PM rue_mohr: 4.5 hours of cutting rock
06:53 PM polprog: damn, i cant sleep
06:54 PM rue_mohr: hmm I wonder how long to should go till
06:54 PM polprog: hmm, i have a cool idea involving eproms
06:54 PM rue_mohr: grocery store closes at 9
06:54 PM rue_mohr: maybe 7
06:54 PM rue_mohr: it'll start getting dark around then anyhow
06:54 PM polprog: 2 am. have alarm set for 730
06:55 PM polprog: whyyy
06:55 PM rue_mohr: I'll get the groceries and then work on the 6502/joule thief
06:55 PM rue_mohr: polprog, what code do you have on the todo list?
06:55 PM polprog: what code?
06:55 PM rue_mohr: yea
06:55 PM rue_mohr: you must have some code you want to write
06:55 PM polprog: as in to do list of what programs
06:56 PM polprog: hmm
06:56 PM polprog: none currently
06:56 PM rue_mohr: a library for something?
06:56 PM rue_mohr: add a feature to something
06:56 PM rue_mohr: rewrite something?
06:56 PM polprog: mean. i wanna dive into 8051 so that will be some coding
06:56 PM rue_mohr: have a compiler set up yet?
06:56 PM polprog: no, i will be using sdcc though
06:56 PM polprog: i know it well
06:57 PM rue_mohr: have sdcc installed yet?
06:57 PM polprog: i think so
06:57 PM rue_mohr: also, find a header file for the register map
06:57 PM polprog: yeah, thats on the todo
06:57 PM polprog: worst case ill draw one up
06:57 PM rue_mohr: might as well do now
06:57 PM rue_mohr: sleep obviously isn't an option
06:59 PM polprog: i want to get up and be at the market in the morning. heh
06:59 PM rue_mohr: #include "regc51fx.h"
06:59 PM rue_mohr: do you have that file?
07:00 PM polprog: idk, im laying on the bed wiaiting for the room to ventillate
07:00 PM rue_mohr: want my 8051 stuff?
07:00 PM polprog: hmm, plcc44 sockets, 29c040, broken CCTV cam
07:01 PM polprog: shopping list
07:01 PM rue_mohr: zippo:/files/programming/c/8051# ls -1
07:01 PM rue_mohr: 8051lib
07:01 PM rue_mohr: SFRegisters.pdf
07:01 PM rue_mohr: blinkled
07:01 PM rue_mohr: outlet1
07:01 PM rue_mohr: serial
07:01 PM rue_mohr: serial2
07:01 PM rue_mohr: serialCommand
07:01 PM rue_mohr: serialCommand2
07:01 PM rue_mohr: template1
07:01 PM rue_mohr: template2
07:01 PM rue_mohr: not done much yet
07:01 PM polprog: yeah, you can put it somewhere, ill wget it in the morning
07:02 PM polprog: allright, i think it ventilated here
07:02 PM rue_mohr: After this weekend there really wont be another chance to use the saw more
07:02 PM polprog: catch you on the flip side
07:02 PM polprog: :)
07:02 PM rue_mohr: I got to go back to it
07:02 PM rue_mohr: but I need more food
07:03 PM rue_mohr: I have a little over 100 pcs
07:03 PM rue_mohr: each layer takes 8
07:03 PM rue_mohr: there are about 12 layers left
07:03 PM rue_mohr: and 2 pillear
07:03 PM rue_mohr: s
07:04 PM rue_mohr: so another 90pcs and I should be ok
07:04 PM rue_mohr: ugh
07:04 PM rue_mohr: I dont even think there is that much rock left
07:04 PM rue_mohr: ooooooooooooh
07:06 PM Tom_L: coming to the end of it?
07:11 PM rue_mohr: not much time left before I cant be working wet
07:12 PM Tom_L: bad weather moving in?
07:15 PM rue_mohr: for about the next 8 months
07:19 PM rue_mohr: ok 2 more hours
07:37 PM polprog: nighters
08:18 PM rue_mohr: ok 1 more hour
08:34 PM aandrew: what're you doing with an 8051?
08:34 PM aandrew: I mean I've gathered what I need for the FX2LP stuff I want to do, but that's more about the GPIF stuff than the 8051 side
09:28 PM rue_mohr: fx 2 lp?
09:28 PM Tom_L: so what's up tonight?
09:29 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: 8051 is the 555 of USB2.0HS devices
09:29 PM aandrew: er sorry FX2LP is the 555 of USB2.0HS devices
09:29 PM rue_mohr: oh
09:29 PM rue_mohr: usb 1.0?
09:29 PM rue_mohr: 2.0
09:29 PM rue_mohr: hmm
09:29 PM rue_mohr: still supported?
09:30 PM aandrew: it's basically a high speed FIFO and USB 2.0 PHY connected to an 8051
09:30 PM aandrew: yep
09:30 PM aandrew: wildly popular
09:30 PM aandrew: cheap as fuck too
09:30 PM aandrew: you get FX2LP dev boards on aliexpress for $3
09:30 PM aandrew: I have a half dozen and use them as cheap Saleae logic analyzers (their original logic analyzers were literally just a respin of a dev board)
09:30 PM rue_mohr: does it almost take the whole 8051 to keep up with it?
09:31 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: no, the 8051 can't even hope to keep up
09:31 PM rue_mohr: I thought the salae were fpga
09:31 PM aandrew: it's just a way to do some low speed logic and configuration and so on, the datapath doesn't go near the 8051
09:31 PM rue_mohr: I'm a half hour behind
09:32 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: the original ones were literally an 8051 dev board. that's why the $3 adapters work perfectly
09:32 PM Tom_L: get the mason work done?
09:32 PM rue_mohr: oh but there is my wallet
09:32 PM aandrew: the *new* Logics do have an FPGA though
09:32 PM rue_mohr: its dark
09:32 PM rue_mohr: I'll cut anything else I can tommorow
09:33 PM aandrew: yeah it's dark here too :-)
09:34 PM rue_mohr: I might have about 120?
09:34 PM rue_mohr: maybe 150 tops
09:34 PM Tom_L: what you cuttin em with?
09:34 PM rue_mohr: 2kw wet saw
09:35 PM Tom_L: table or hand?
09:35 PM Tom_L: i got a small tile saw
09:35 PM rue_mohr: table
09:35 PM rue_mohr: I'll take a pic tommorow
09:35 PM rue_mohr: if I took one now it would just be black
09:39 PM Tom_L: mine is a cheap one
09:40 PM Tom_L: but cuts tile good
09:42 PM Tom_L: i need to figure out how i'm gonna wire the enable to the vfd next
09:42 PM Tom_L: i can only do so much without it present though
09:44 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, do you remember what those optos were we used on the 24v relay?
09:45 PM Tom_L: it's possible i might need another one
09:48 PM Tom_L: so i think i'll run the enable signal from the control board thru the estop relay on the vfd side so both have to be true for it to come on
09:51 PM rue_shop1: well danmit. the grovery store clsoes at 8 tonight not 9
09:53 PM Tom_L: you got 7 min
10:00 PM Tom_L: H11A817C must be it
10:00 PM Tom_L: 70 v out
10:00 PM Tom_L: says i got some but i dunno where
10:20 PM rue_mohr: good thing I checked beore I left
10:21 PM rue_mohr: the grocery store closed at 8 not 9
10:21 PM rue_mohr: so, I'm screwed
10:21 PM rue_mohr: arg
10:21 PM rue_mohr: ok, still on todo list
10:21 PM rue_mohr: joule feith
10:21 PM rue_mohr: a 6502 distraction
10:22 PM rue_mohr: order the books for school
10:22 PM rue_mohr: put heatsink on the power supply
10:22 PM rue_mohr: work on new jukebox code
10:22 PM Tom_L: find a laptop?
10:23 PM rue_mohr: freaking $1000
10:23 PM rue_mohr: and then I realized I should have checked amazon
10:23 PM rue_mohr: so I'm not getting the one I want, again.
10:23 PM Tom_L: been there about umm 7 times
10:23 PM rue_mohr: bought it form newegg
10:23 PM Tom_L: why not?
10:23 PM rue_mohr: should have looked more
10:23 PM Tom_L: the last ones were acer? maybe
10:24 PM rue_mohr: I was looking for
10:24 PM rue_mohr: - must be amd processor
10:24 PM rue_mohr: - must have more than 768 lines on screen
10:24 PM Tom_L: no, ASUS
10:24 PM rue_mohr: I bought one and newegg canceled my purchase
10:24 PM Tom_L: why amd?
10:24 PM rue_mohr: well the seller did
10:24 PM rue_mohr: amd is not a crap processor
10:25 PM Tom_L: that gen10 stuff is shit i agree
10:25 PM Tom_L: or whatever gen it is
10:25 PM rue_mohr: anyhow, It didn't go like I wanted
10:25 PM rue_mohr: I'm out of runway
10:25 PM rue_mohr: I ahve to have the laptop working for school in 17 days
10:25 PM Tom_L: time to take flight or crash
10:26 PM Tom_L: no local stores sell em?
10:26 PM rue_mohr: nope
10:26 PM rue_mohr: london drugs is one of them
10:26 PM rue_mohr: big chain
10:26 PM rue_mohr: and they dont have any anywhere
10:27 PM rue_mohr: just, arg
10:27 PM Tom_L: i do know there is a shortage here due to alot of schools going online due to covid
10:27 PM rue_mohr: there still isn't a better motherboard than the one I have in my machine now too
10:27 PM Tom_L: also may be driving the price up
10:27 PM rue_mohr: technology started to actually go backwards
10:28 PM Tom_L: it can't stand still
10:28 PM rue_mohr: I'm gonna do the joule feith and the 6502 thing
10:28 PM rue_mohr: 6502 first I think
10:28 PM Tom_L: what is the joule feith?
10:28 PM rue_mohr: *deep breath*
10:29 PM rue_mohr: its a boost converter, named for its ability to run things on dead batteries
10:29 PM Tom_L: huh
