12:00 AM rue_mohr: trying to reinstall the jukebox
12:06 AM rue_mohr: the hardware has nothing else to get it in
12:06 AM zhanx_workshop: k
12:06 AM rue_mohr: REALLY wishing I had hardware that would boot off usb
12:06 AM zhanx_workshop: would be nice, check for a bios update?
12:06 AM rue_mohr: the freaking "i386" kernels aren't they need two instructions that the mini itx processro doesnt' have
12:06 AM rue_mohr: between jesse and buster they freaking made a non-386 "386" kernel
12:11 AM zhanx_workshop: i am firing the new smelter with propane
12:11 AM zhanx_workshop: wish me luck
12:15 AM rue_mohr: no stright line with the raid
12:16 AM rue_mohr: I have to install it normal, move the system on to a depreciated array, then redo the first drive as the second array member
12:16 AM rue_mohr: *sigh*
12:20 AM zhanx_workshop: after 2 hours i am at 944F and humid as heck
12:21 AM zhanx_workshop: rue_mohr, what is the normal cool down time for your smelter
12:23 AM rue_mohr: I told the dryer to abuse my clothes for 40 minutes with the heat turned off....
12:23 AM rue_mohr: ugh
12:23 AM rue_mohr: zhanx_workshop, I dont monitor it
12:23 AM rue_mohr: its hours
12:23 AM zhanx_workshop: k
12:24 AM zhanx_workshop: figured as much
12:38 AM rue_mohr: ok, it would have been cool to have a serial->ethernet socket adapter so I could have made this a serial port install and then finished it from bed
12:38 AM aandrew: rue_mohr: bluetooth can have some incredible range...
12:38 AM rue_mohr: ah...
12:38 AM aandrew: also... I don't think all of that will fit in that case
12:39 AM rue_mohr: I think the price has come down on moudles too
12:39 AM aandrew: the term "ten pounds of shit in a five pound bag" comes to mind
12:39 AM rue_mohr: hah
12:39 AM rue_mohr: its the same motherboard as the actual jukebox has
12:39 AM rue_mohr: I'm just getting the install done
12:39 AM rue_mohr: throw the drives in the machine
12:40 AM aandrew: nice. I got a 4U disk array for like $30 and am finally getting the parts in to make use of it
12:40 AM rue_mohr: it would have been painfull to have used the actual jukebox
12:40 AM zhanx_workshop: k i am at 1000F now
12:40 AM zhanx_workshop: its staring to glow
12:40 AM aandrew: 24 5.25" drives, dual power supplies, dual SAS controllers
12:40 AM rue_mohr: nice
12:40 AM rue_mohr: zhanx_workshop, the aluminum itself shouldn't realyl glow, iirc
12:40 AM aandrew: had to buy a SAS controller and then try to figure out the connectors
12:40 AM aandrew: I think I got it though
12:40 AM aandrew: zhanx_workshop: sounds awesome, be safe
12:41 AM rue_mohr: aandrew, does it take sas drives?
12:41 AM zhanx_workshop: rue it the fire clay empty chamber
12:41 AM rue_mohr: ah
12:41 AM rue_mohr: how big is it?
12:41 AM rue_mohr: can we see?
12:41 AM rue_mohr: do you have a pot yet?
12:41 AM zhanx_workshop: same size as yours really and no pot yet
12:41 AM rue_mohr: dont use stainless...
12:42 AM zhanx_workshop: won't
12:42 AM rue_mohr: steel seems ok
12:42 AM zhanx_workshop: i am getting a proper one
12:42 AM rue_mohr: $$$
12:42 AM aandrew: rue_mohr: nope regular old SATA drives, it's just SAS on the back end
12:42 AM rue_mohr: I'd love that, instructables contest didn't come thru for me tho
12:42 AM rue_mohr: I put a few days work into that article too
12:43 AM rue_mohr: after the two fancy ones with, iirc, not even making the notable mention, I gave up on their contests
12:43 AM zhanx_workshop: rue_mohr, the fire clay was 100
12:43 AM rue_mohr: ouch
12:43 AM zhanx_workshop: but its build once and done
12:43 AM rue_mohr: that mix I used holds up damn good
12:44 AM rue_mohr: esp provided its out in the weather
12:44 AM zhanx_workshop: i reached the limit of my contactless now
12:44 AM rue_mohr: all year
12:44 AM rue_mohr: heh
12:44 AM zhanx_workshop: i am using the whole propane tank on this (it was newly filled)
12:45 AM aandrew: rue_mohr / zhanx_workshop did I point you guys over to alloyavenue.com yet?
12:45 AM aandrew: holy shitballs it's almost 2am
12:45 AM zhanx_workshop: bookmarked aandrew
12:46 AM aandrew: that's an amazing site with some *really* talented and technical hobbyiests
12:46 AM rue_mohr: yea I need to make a dip-thermocouple
12:46 AM zhanx_workshop: i need to make a solder pot soon
12:46 AM rue_mohr: "
12:46 AM rue_mohr: It appears you don't have
12:46 AM rue_mohr: permission to access this page.
12:46 AM rue_mohr: 403 Error. Forbidden.
12:46 AM rue_mohr: "
12:47 AM rue_mohr: I suppose I cant click the forum
12:47 AM zhanx_workshop: me neither
12:49 AM rue_mohr: http://www.backyardmetalcasting.com/alumflasks01.html
12:49 AM rue_mohr: I like that
12:49 AM rue_mohr: I could use up some of all that alum
12:50 AM rue_mohr: it looks like I wont finish this install tonight
12:51 AM rue_mohr: http://www.backyardmetalcasting.com/castingpulleys1.html
12:51 AM rue_mohr: yea, plaster of paris sucks
12:55 AM rue_mohr: http://www.backyardmetalcasting.com/crucibles2.html
12:55 AM rue_mohr: wonder if I should move to a pouring setup like that
12:55 AM rue_mohr: small pot tho
12:57 AM rue_mohr: http://www.backyardmetalcasting.com/chopsaw02.html
12:58 AM rue_mohr: when casting thrings with large areas, remember the density of the metal, you probably have to tie down the cope so it doesn't get hydraulically lifted by the aluminum
07:52 PM aandrew: yay my v-groove (u-groove actually) bearings came
07:52 PM aandrew: now I've forgotten what I wanted to do with them
07:52 PM rue_mohr: :)
07:52 PM rue_mohr: linear sliders
07:52 PM aandrew: it's my dream to have a workshop so well stocked and organized that when I get a wild hair up my ass for an idea I don't have to wait on anything
07:52 PM aandrew: no I think it was for those neat 3d printed cable mechanisms I saw on twitter
08:50 PM aandrew: ok
08:50 PM aandrew: who the FUCK provides a TTL level "RS232" output that is FUCKING INVERTED (low = idle) ?!
08:52 PM aandrew: I've got a GPSDO from aliexpress, climbed on to the peak of my house to put a GPS (and 433MHz) antenna up there, GPS locked great, but I was getting nothing but garbage out of the GPSDO's serial out
08:52 PM aandrew: it was supposed to be 9600N81 but who can trust what ali vendors say
08:52 PM aandrew: so I spent a lot of time trying all kinds of settings, wondering if it was outputting in some ublox or sif binary mode instead
08:52 PM aandrew: tried different USB UART dongles
08:53 PM aandrew: stuck a scope on it and it measured 9600bps, but it didn't dawn on me until I stared at it wondering about something else that "gee, isn't UART supposed to idle high?"
08:53 PM aandrew: so I stuck a simple 2N4401 inverter on it and it just came to life
08:53 PM aandrew: fucking hell
08:53 PM aandrew: I feel like flying over to shenzhen and going all wuhan on a little chinese dude
08:56 PM aandrew: the good news is my house isn't moving: 43.38,-80.34
08:57 PM aandrew: not givng you guys any more decimal places so I don't dox myself
08:59 PM zhanx_workshop: not like i am going to canada anytime soon
09:04 PM aandrew: fine, I'll give you one more decimal place
09:04 PM aandrew: :-)
10:32 PM rue_mohr: inverted, burn
10:41 PM rue_mohr: late night images, got another row done on the pillars today
10:41 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170118.jpg
10:41 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170119.jpg
10:42 PM Tom_L: slow process
10:42 PM rue_mohr: yea
10:42 PM Tom_L: have you started #2 yet?
10:42 PM rue_mohr: those are different ones
10:42 PM Tom_L: it will be winter soon
10:42 PM rue_mohr: store hard ;)
10:42 PM rue_mohr: I know
10:43 PM rue_mohr: I dont think they will be done by the time the horrid weather arrives
10:43 PM Tom_L: so you're doing both at once
10:43 PM rue_mohr: yup
10:43 PM rue_mohr: I'm ok with 4 rows/mon-fri
10:43 PM rue_mohr: if I can make it 5, thats great
10:44 PM rue_mohr: I'd like to get 4 done on the weekend
10:44 PM rue_mohr: 2 is ok
10:44 PM Tom_L: bricks may have been quicker
10:45 PM Tom_L: i'm at a dilemma with 9 or 15mm wide belts
10:45 PM Tom_L: 15 would be better but will require more modifications to the spindle pulley to fit
10:45 PM Tom_L: turns out they are wider than the ones i've got on it
10:46 PM Tom_L: almost as wide as both pullies i currently have on it
10:47 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/new_pulleys/spindle_enc8.jpg
10:47 PM Tom_L: doesn't leave much room for the encoder pulley
10:47 PM rue_mohr: I didn't want the institutionalism of bricks
10:47 PM Tom_L: yeah
10:48 PM rue_mohr: but the encoder pulley can be like 5mm
10:48 PM Tom_L: if i got a double sided belt i wonder if i could bump drive the encoder off it
10:48 PM rue_mohr: or 3
10:48 PM Tom_L: i'm not changing the encoder pullies
10:48 PM rue_mohr: it will lead to changing everything, you should accept that now
10:49 PM Tom_L: since i'll be going to a 5mm pitch instead of 3, 9mm wide could be enough
10:49 PM Tom_L: the teeth are alot bigger
10:50 PM Tom_L: the one in the pic is 9mm
10:51 PM Tom_L: on a GT3 5mm series, the gain from 9 to 15 is almost 2 fold
10:51 PM Tom_L: torque
10:52 PM rue_mohr: ok
10:53 PM Tom_L: GT2 is more widely available but not quite as good
10:54 PM Tom_L: my buddy has a keyslot broach i can use for the motor one though. i called him
10:56 PM rue_mohr: ok, while re-reinstalling linux for the jukebox, I can write the bargraph code
11:11 PM rue_mohr: zhanx_workshop, I did a quick casting when I got home from work, it failed, material shrunk all wrong
11:11 PM rue_mohr: pulled a pocket into the casting
11:11 PM zhanx_workshop: that sucks
11:11 PM rue_mohr: yea, it was an idea for something for ma
11:11 PM rue_mohr: wont really have time to try again
11:11 PM zhanx_workshop: i am working the forms for mine
11:12 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170112.jpg
11:12 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170113.jpg

11:12 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170116.jpg
11:13 PM rue_mohr: it was a fast fail tho
11:13 PM rue_mohr: that was all since 4;30ish
11:15 PM rue_mohr: I must have changed shape
11:15 PM rue_mohr: my pants dont want to stay on anymore
11:16 PM rue_mohr: :/
11:21 PM rue_mohr: ok, installing linux, writing avr code, and I'm supposed to be testing stm32 code too
11:21 PM rue_mohr: maybe I should re-oil my hands after the concrete...
11:24 PM rue_mohr: ok, empty code compiles
11:37 PM rue_mohr: ok, ...
11:38 PM rue_mohr: that should be it for the avr code
11:49 PM rue_mohr: how do I get a git project again?
11:49 PM rue_mohr: https://github.com/saewave/STM32F103-USB-CDC-CMSIS.git
11:49 PM rue_mohr: I thoguht it was "git checkout https://github.com/saewave/STM32F103-USB-CDC-CMSIS.git"
11:49 PM rue_mohr: but its not
11:52 PM zhanx_workshop: git clone
11:52 PM rue_mohr: thanks
11:52 PM rue_mohr: ok can I get this code to compile?
11:53 PM zhanx_workshop: maybe
11:56 PM rue_mohr: damnit, its going to take a full 12 hours to install an os for the damned jukebox
11:56 PM rue_mohr: damn grub
11:57 PM rue_mohr: Makefile:75: /usr/lib/arm/ld/Makefile.linker: No such file or directory
