01:27 AM rue_mohr: darn
01:33 AM zhanx_workshop: yep so i am doing 120v straight to series parallel
01:40 AM rue_bed2: er;;
01:40 AM rue_bed2: well
01:40 AM rue_bed2: I finished the completable items on my 'do this week' list I made on the weekend
02:04 AM zhanx_workshop: nice
05:11 AM polprog: rue_bed2: what was that phone board with the FPGA you were reprogramming?
08:36 AM polprog: neat. the lora modules are in
08:41 AM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/loramodules.jpg
08:52 AM rue_mohr: hmm, I recall a server front panel, I could connect, but the software didn't support that chip
08:53 AM polprog: it was some front panel
08:53 AM polprog: i tried to find some pics but they are gone
08:53 AM rue_mohr: twitter is like that
08:53 AM polprog: no, i mean ircjunk
08:53 AM rue_mohr: I wonder when I did it
08:53 AM rue_mohr: was it this year?
08:55 AM polprog: yeah
08:55 AM polprog: oh boy, it was february
08:55 AM rue_mohr: ok
08:56 AM rue_mohr: had to be before that
09:07 AM zhanx_workshop_: my drone was taken by the wind
09:08 AM zhanx_workshop_: my drone was taken by the wind, it tried to come back
09:10 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1140581.jpg

09:10 AM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1140587.jpg
09:10 AM rue_mohr: zhanx_workshop_, maybe the first inncodent was a sign
09:21 AM polprog: rue_mohr: yeah, this one
04:42 PM polprog: hmm, i made the footprint for the lora modules
04:44 PM polprog: i have two of these tunable transformers
04:44 PM polprog: 6 pins
04:44 PM polprog: i wonder what can i do with them
04:46 PM polprog: i also have this 38.90 IF filter module
04:46 PM polprog: K2955M
05:10 PM polprog: tried making some oscillators with it, but no dice
05:10 PM polprog: i should read taoe up
06:48 PM rue_mohr: wow, second power outage in 2 days
06:48 PM rue_mohr: show me, might be wrong type
07:01 PM polprog: two middle ones
07:01 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/IMG_1198.jpg
07:02 PM rue_mohr: well, the right hand one is a filter
07:02 PM rue_mohr: 3 latter arcynym
07:02 PM polprog: the 5 pin one?
07:02 PM Tom_L: mm late job today
07:02 PM rue_mohr: yea
07:02 PM rue_mohr: I need to see the underside of the left one to know it
07:02 PM rue_mohr: its either got a cap or not
07:02 PM Tom_L: 1.2kw spindle motor ordered... 6wk delay
07:03 PM polprog: its got some empty space, if there was a cap would I see it?
07:03 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, wow, ok
07:03 PM polprog: its got 6 pins
07:03 PM Tom_L: should do ok ya think?
07:03 PM rue_mohr: polprog, underside
07:03 PM Tom_L: compared to 180w max for short periods on the sheline motor
07:04 PM rue_mohr: k
07:04 PM rue_mohr: I'm curious to what you'll do
07:04 PM Tom_L: need new pulleys and belts
07:04 PM Tom_L: bigger series
07:04 PM Tom_L: from 2mm pitch to 5 i think
07:05 PM Tom_L: 9mm width may still be ok
07:05 PM Tom_L: might go to 15mm wide
07:05 PM rue_mohr: cutting wise
07:05 PM Tom_L: it will be back to what the mill can take
07:05 PM Tom_L: the steppers can take it
07:06 PM Tom_L: just won't have to worry about burning up the motor every time
07:06 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/IMG_1199.jpg
07:06 PM Tom_L: oh, reverse also
07:06 PM rue_mohr: polprog, no cap, its just a transformer
07:07 PM rue_mohr: or a coil only
07:07 PM rue_mohr: you can pull the metal case off, see how many windings are on it
07:08 PM rue_mohr: huh, only 22 days on a recent order
07:08 PM Tom_L: bigger belt teeth should help
07:10 PM polprog: aw crap
07:11 PM polprog: i broke tie wire insid
07:11 PM polprog: inside
07:11 PM rue_mohr: oops
07:11 PM rue_mohr: how?
07:11 PM polprog: it just disconnected
07:11 PM rue_mohr: doesn't sound like it slid apart like they usually do
07:11 PM rue_mohr: well lets see anyhow
07:11 PM polprog: i had to help it a little with a blade
07:11 PM polprog: but it didnt touch the wire
07:11 PM polprog: sec
07:11 PM rue_mohr: k
07:12 PM rue_mohr: usually they have a capacitor
07:12 PM rue_mohr: but they can have a lot of different configuations internally
07:12 PM rue_mohr: you can get them ~6 at a time from old transistor radios
07:13 PM rue_mohr: or CBs
07:13 PM Tom_L: hahh i remember those
07:13 PM Tom_L: hand held 9v battery ones
07:13 PM rue_mohr: or rf toy cars
07:13 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/various/IMG_1200.jpg
07:13 PM polprog: yeah my radio has 6 of them at the end of the rf path
07:13 PM polprog: i still havent tuned them properly
07:13 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, what was that link from dhylands the other day?
07:14 PM polprog: i cant hear crap on it
07:14 PM polprog: none of whati can hear on sdr
07:14 PM rue_mohr: wow oops
07:14 PM Tom_L: make a xtal radio
07:14 PM polprog: for UHF? :P
07:14 PM rue_mohr: just a transformer
07:14 PM rue_mohr: not the best one
07:15 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, dont remember, I was surpeised to see his name on something new
07:16 PM Tom_L: haven't heard from his brother in ages though
07:16 PM Tom_L: john & dave
07:16 PM Tom_L: should be able to cut steel better with the improvements
07:25 PM polprog: the vhs boards have some nice inductors
07:25 PM polprog: i should take some out and categorize them...
07:27 PM polprog: i need to see how this filter works
07:27 PM polprog: maybe ill make up an opamp oscillate
07:51 PM rue_mohr: its a...
07:51 PM rue_mohr: --Z filter
07:52 PM rue_mohr: ?
07:55 PM rue_mohr: SAW filter
07:55 PM rue_mohr: Standing Acoustic Wave
08:13 PM rue_shop2: the power outage today took out one of the local towns, must have caused a good blink here too
08:44 PM zhanx_workshop_: Yes! found the drone
08:44 PM zhanx_workshop_: it was 400-450 yards into the woods!
08:46 PM Tom_L: put a beeper on it to trigger below a given alt after launch
08:48 PM zhanx_workshop_: not worried this is my practice drone so i can learn to fly them good
08:48 PM zhanx_workshop_: minus it losing signal and flying off i have not crashed it in a while
09:05 PM zhanx_shop is now known as zhanx
09:13 PM zhanx: https://imgur.com/a/hSfjdOE
09:13 PM zhanx: that was on the tablet it, send 3 frames of video
09:21 PM jymmmm: zhanx ping
09:22 PM rue_shop2: heh
09:23 PM zhanx_workshop_: i am lagging bad the weather is junk
09:28 PM rue_shop2: internet connections that do not depend on radio waves are a great thing
09:28 PM jymmmm: zhanx_workshop_: My HVAC is on Cool/AC cycle, but periodially is putting out heat at random. If I set it one degree cooler, it kicks on the compressor and I get cold. HAve you ever heard of this before? BTW this unit DOES have heating elements.
09:29 PM jymmmm: I just caught it for the second time in a week or so.
09:29 PM rue_shop2: whats the model, lets find a manual
09:29 PM jymmmm: rue_shop2: it's 30yo, but hang on
09:30 PM jymmmm: Carrier 50YQ036300
09:31 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if I shoudl set up a small farm in the back yard for income
09:34 PM Tom_L: the critters would thank you
09:34 PM Tom_L: livestock or agricultural?
09:36 PM rue_mohr: agc
09:38 PM jymmmm: Wiring diagram... https://smallpdf.com/shared#st=e5d18ad8-0ee7-4245-a358-43a1c9a5bc15&fn=carrier-50YQ-3W.pdf&ct=1598495885376&tl=share-document&rf=link
09:41 PM jymmmm: rue_shop2: That's the only "manual" I have... Wiring diagram... https://smallpdf.com/shared#st=e5d18ad8-0ee7-4245-a358-43a1c9a5bc15&fn=carrier-50YQ-3W.pdf&ct=1598495885376&tl=share-document&rf=link
09:42 PM zhanx_workshop_: jymmmm, sounds like the relay for the heat coils is stuck closed
09:44 PM jymmmm: zhanx_workshop_: so not the indoor thermostat calling for heat and cold (broken)?
09:45 PM zhanx_workshop_: check both
09:46 PM jymmmm: I replaced the contactor (last year?), is there another contactor for the heating elements I might be seeing? I can't see a relay controlling 90A elements
09:47 PM jymmmm: might NOT be seeing*
09:48 PM zhanx_workshop_: my connection is crap due to the weather the pdf wont load for me
09:48 PM zhanx_workshop_: rue can you read that for him?
09:48 PM jymmmm: ah ok
09:49 PM Tom_L: zhanx_workshop_, that hurricane close to you?
09:49 PM Tom_L: or the affects of it...
09:50 PM zhanx_workshop_: affects are right now
09:50 PM zhanx_workshop_: lots of clouds and wind
09:50 PM zhanx_workshop_: i am in the path but not near the coast
09:54 PM jymmmm: What "typically controls the compressor, a relay or contactor?
09:55 PM zhanx_workshop_: contactor
09:55 PM zhanx_workshop_: its 3 phase
09:55 PM jymmmm: single ph 220 for ths unit
09:55 PM zhanx_workshop_: oh then it could be a relay then
09:55 PM jymmmm: ok, then the contactor controls the heating elements?
09:56 PM rue_mohr: dropped phase intermittently reversing the motor?
09:56 PM zhanx_workshop_: i wish it would load
09:56 PM jymmmm: I wish it would load for you too.
09:57 PM zhanx_workshop_: okm 15 minutes on the download now
09:57 PM jymmmm: zhanx satellite?
09:57 PM zhanx_workshop_: yep
09:58 PM zhanx_workshop_: and with the hurricane i am lagging bad
09:58 PM jymmmm: sorry to hear that :(
09:59 PM rue_mohr: were samsung galaxy phones famous for bricking their batteries?
09:59 PM jymmmm: rue_ Galazy S4 were famous for the power button getting stuck and locking up the phone
10:00 PM Tom_L: huh
10:00 PM Tom_L: never had any problems with any of mine
10:01 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: feel lucky, I have one here that was given to me for that reason, I removed the button and the phone started working again. I just cna't solder on the new button (which I have) without a microscope
10:01 PM Tom_L: i did have a battery swell up on me
10:01 PM zhanx_workshop_: jymmmm, contactor is for the heating elements
10:02 PM jymmmm: zhanx Ok, so maybe it's the logic/control circuity that's intermittant
10:02 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, at this point i don't think i'd try that
10:02 PM zhanx_workshop_: unless you have 3 relays side by side
10:02 PM zhanx_workshop_: err 2
10:03 PM jymmmm: IFR = Inside Fan Relay
10:03 PM jymmmm: SFR =
10:03 PM zhanx_workshop_: they have HR1 and H2 (primary heat and supplemental)
10:04 PM zhanx_workshop_: start fan relay
10:04 PM jymmmm: ah
10:04 PM zhanx_workshop_: legend is on page 1
10:04 PM zhanx_workshop_: top right hand side
10:04 PM jymmmm: DFR and C
10:05 PM zhanx_workshop_: safety fan relay read that wrong
10:05 PM zhanx_workshop_: defrost
10:06 PM jymmmm: safety fan? outdoor fan???
10:10 PM zhanx_workshop_: ok tethered to the phone
10:10 PM jymmmm: welcome back
10:15 PM jymmmm: Oh this diagram is hard to read compared to the one insdie the cover. I'll see if I can take a photo and goto staples and have them print it out on 24" paper
10:18 PM jymmmm: I was trying to wait to goto the city this week, but guess I'll have to go anyway
10:26 PM zhanx_workshop_: ok property should be ready for the hurricane
10:37 PM jymmmm: zhanx everything anchored down? plywood on the windows? 12 cases of (pick your poison) securely stowed away?
10:38 PM zhanx_workshop_: no plywood
10:38 PM zhanx_workshop_: it was sold out
10:38 PM jymmmm: boo
10:39 PM jymmmm: zhanx plastic sheet and staple gun at the ready?
10:40 PM zhanx_workshop_: yep
10:41 PM jymmmm: WOOHOO just be safe
10:41 PM zhanx_workshop_: tis just weather not my first hurricane
10:41 PM jymmmm: I've found that "100 MPH DUCT TAPE" doesn't exist anymore sadly
10:42 PM jymmmm: Eh, still, be safe
10:43 PM jymmmm: Ok, I'm going to go test SUP HEAT to see which fuse box (there are two supplys to the HVAC) is the heating elements, then label them finally.
10:49 PM jymmmm: zhanx What is the purpose of a mechanical timer in an HVAC usually?
10:51 PM jymmmm: zhanx Is it to wait long enough for the compressor to equalize(?) before starting up again? Like a delay timer?
10:51 PM zhanx_workshop_: that and defrost cycle
10:52 PM jymmmm: oh, I thought defrost cycle was temp dependant?
10:53 PM zhanx_workshop_: not always, give me a minute and i will have time to go over that wiring diagram better
10:54 PM jymmmm: no worries, it's just probably the only thing I haven't replaced in the control panel yet, that and the 24V xmfr, plus I think 1 or 2 other relays. Just trying to get ahead in my understanding of it all.
11:07 PM jymmmm: Ok, tested, confirmed, and labeled each fuse box. Calling for EmHEAT (SUP HEAT) with the fusses pulled enables the indoor fan, but no heat. Replace the fuses, heat and indoor fan.
11:08 PM jymmmm: compressor stays OFF
11:08 PM zhanx_workshop_: check your stat to see if its the one calling
11:09 PM zhanx_workshop_: the hot line to the sup heat relay
11:10 PM jymmmm: I looked on the stat when I was getting hot air, it was set to AC 78F. Turned it to 77F and I got cold air. IDK if the AC was just colder than the heating elements or if it truly turned off the heating elements too.
11:11 PM jymmmm: The biggest probly is this is intermittant, so I'll have to toss on an idiot light semi perm to see if the SupHeat Relay is on or not when the Stat is calling for cold.
11:13 PM jymmmm: Oh "DT" must be Defrost Timer, it's in the right location for where it say "Component arrangement" in the drawing.
11:22 PM jymmmm: What is --||--- compared to --|| and a \ thru it --- ? NO and NC ?
11:34 PM jymmmm: Reading the SEQUENCE of OPERATION really helps to understand the operations, I'm impressed.
11:38 PM rue_mohr: NO Normall open
11:38 PM rue_mohr: NC normally closed
11:39 PM rue_mohr: --||-- is normally open
11:39 PM jymmmm: Ok, cool, just wasn't sure of the symbols themselves.
11:39 PM rue_mohr: --|\|-- is normally closed
11:39 PM jymmmm: YAY, I actualyl read them right, hahah
11:41 PM jymmmm: Now I'm just trying to find the contactor coil
