07:58 AM polprog: it appears im gonna get two lora modules as free samples
08:04 AM polprog: good
09:15 AM rue_mohr: polprog, what country is he in?
09:15 AM polprog: hmm, not sure. I think US?
09:15 AM rue_mohr: ah ok
09:31 AM polprog: what's up?
02:28 PM rue_mohr: not me, and I ahve to go install emergency lights
03:11 PM polprog: did you choose the ics you want from him?
04:27 PM polprog: woohooo
04:27 PM polprog: i got the onboard clock running on the FPGA!
04:29 PM Tom_L: nice
04:36 PM polprog: now trying to make a clock divider so i can make a led blink
04:37 PM Tom_L: count down register
04:40 PM polprog: ?
04:40 PM Tom_L: use as a divider
04:41 PM polprog: im counting a register up and assigned the clock output to reg & 1000....
06:13 PM Tom_L: what fpga?
06:14 PM Tom_L: xilinx or other?
06:20 PM polprog: yeah, xilinx spartan 6
06:20 PM polprog: im hooking up a led matrix to it
06:27 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/temp/xilinx/
06:27 PM Tom_L: same board as rue's?
06:27 PM Tom_L: his pdf is there in his dir
06:29 PM Tom_L: or maybe not...
06:29 PM Tom_L: i had it somewhere..
06:29 PM polprog: no, the new board
06:29 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/fpga/
06:29 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/fpga/7seg_decoder.jpg
06:29 PM polprog: this was the previous attempt final :P
06:30 PM Tom_L: not the same board rue got then?
06:30 PM polprog: no, rue got the same one as me
06:30 PM Tom_L: :)
06:31 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/xilinx/New_Board/
06:31 PM Tom_L: bunch of examples
06:31 PM Tom_L: for the board i got, you'll have to remap the pins if you try them
06:31 PM polprog: yeah
06:32 PM polprog: let me upload the display example
06:32 PM Tom_L: i tried most of them
06:32 PM polprog: actually, heres the ckdiv i made
06:32 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/fpga/ckdiv.v
06:32 PM Tom_L: verilog not vhdl
06:33 PM Tom_L: verilog is easier to follow i think
06:33 PM polprog: yeah
06:33 PM polprog: oh great the cat wants to jump on the bench
06:37 PM rue_mohr: poofkitty
06:40 PM polprog: https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/fpga/matrixdisplay.jpg
06:40 PM polprog: the curde verilog src is https://polprog.net/rozne1/ircjunk/fpga/matrixdisplay.v
06:40 PM polprog: im sure the cat was an EE in it's previous life
06:40 PM rue_mohr: ok
06:40 PM polprog: he plays with every loose pice of wire that falls on the floor
06:40 PM rue_mohr: was it a muxing test or are you headed somewhere with it?
06:41 PM Tom_L: we are all headed blindly into the abyss
06:41 PM polprog: yeah
06:41 PM rue_mohr: no, some people have their eyes open and dont care
06:42 PM polprog: when i got the clock divider working i decided to see how difficult is it to make a display scan controlelr
06:42 PM Tom_L: you couldn't have helped them if you tried
06:42 PM rue_mohr: actually, I heard someone say this is the way its supposed to be
06:42 PM rue_mohr: I know, I'm still sad tho
06:42 PM polprog: ideally that would also have some memory that i could independently load from a micro
06:42 PM polprog: and basically have a dot matrix display controller
06:42 PM rue_mohr: polprog, yep
06:43 PM Tom_L: did moon bring his motor by?
06:43 PM polprog: this for now just generates the contents on-the-fly
06:43 PM rue_mohr: polprog, maybe command interface?
06:43 PM rue_mohr: register, busy flag, decoder
06:43 PM polprog: for now something like "just put these bits in row X" would suffice
06:43 PM polprog: i havent gotten to making LUTs yet
06:43 PM rue_mohr: same with my lcd
06:43 PM polprog: or the SRAM :V that would rock
06:44 PM polprog: i could have a real display controller with a real display memory
06:44 PM rue_mohr: yea, I'd like to do a simple example with that ram
06:44 PM polprog: not tonight for sure
06:44 PM rue_mohr: no, I have to make lamacoids for work and want to get more done on my driveway pillars
06:44 PM rue_mohr: I took a rest from it last night
06:45 PM polprog: i forgot to call the driving school to appoint for driving practice earlier than next week
06:45 PM polprog: :/
06:45 PM Tom_L: fun
06:45 PM Tom_L: what age do you start that over there?
06:45 PM polprog: im so glad i got this display working
06:46 PM polprog: you can start 3 moths before turnin 18 iirc, you need to be 18 to get the licence
06:46 PM rue_mohr: nice when it works isn't it?
06:46 PM polprog: yup
06:47 PM polprog: for category B which is passenger car with total mass <3.5T. You can drive some motorbikes up to some engine volume being 16
06:47 PM polprog: iirc
06:47 PM polprog: and quads and whatnot
06:59 PM polprog: goodnight
07:00 PM Tom_L: bye
07:53 PM rue_mohr: ok, each strip light for the driveway pillar is about 1.1m
07:53 PM rue_mohr: so, 2 pillars, I'll get 5m
07:54 PM rue_mohr: er 10m
07:54 PM * rue_mohr shakes head
07:55 PM Tom_L: how tall are these gonna be?
07:55 PM Tom_L: how many light strips per pillar?
07:56 PM rue_mohr: there is a strip on each corner
07:56 PM rue_mohr: behind some 3/4" plexiglass strip
07:56 PM Tom_L: serviceable?
07:57 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1170044.jpg
07:57 PM rue_mohr: yes
07:57 PM rue_mohr: slide out thru the top
07:57 PM rue_mohr: see the white pipes on the corners?
07:57 PM Tom_L: yeah
07:57 PM rue_mohr: those are the plexiglass peices going into them
07:57 PM Tom_L: you got conduit run to them to the house or shop?
07:57 PM rue_mohr: shop, technically
07:58 PM rue_mohr: they take power from the kiosk at the septic tank
07:58 PM Tom_L: it's not growing very quick
07:58 PM Tom_L: how many pillars are you making?
07:58 PM Tom_L: 2?
07:58 PM rue_mohr: theres like 2 more layers since that photo
07:58 PM rue_mohr: yea, left and right of driveway
07:58 PM rue_mohr: so they it can be seen in the night
08:00 PM rue_mohr: yea I better giddy up if I'm gonna get some done today
08:51 PM aandrew: it's hard to visualize what you're doing there rue_mohr
08:51 PM aandrew: it *looks* like you're trying to build columns of rock around a conduit, presumably with a light on top
09:17 PM zhanx_workshop: i used cocoonut oil instead of butter (cause i was out of it) in my keto chocolate bars and that was a bad idea
09:17 PM zhanx_workshop: they melt at room temp
09:18 PM Tom_L: woops
09:19 PM zhanx_workshop: lesson learned but they can stay in the frig
09:20 PM zhanx_workshop: 45g protein per bar
09:23 PM zhanx_workshop: i wonder if its possible to let the magic blue smoke out of nichrome wire
09:25 PM Tom_L: if you get it hot enough
09:26 PM zhanx_workshop: its wound around a porcelain rod right now.
09:26 PM zhanx_workshop: i have 80 feet on it and about to apply 2500v at .5 amps
09:26 PM Tom_L: that will act as a 'insulator' ?
09:27 PM zhanx_workshop: it better or physics is out the window
09:41 PM zhanx_workshop: first power on test of the vacuum former heat coil is a success but boy is it stinky
10:05 PM rue_shop2: so, I made some corner peices
10:05 PM rue_shop2: did some math
10:05 PM rue_shop2: it looks like each one has about 18 more layers to go
10:06 PM rue_shop2: which is somewhere about 144 more corner peices
10:06 PM rue_shop2: so, if I just sit down and make 100 corners, I'm likley to find uses for all of them
10:06 PM rue_shop2: instead of trying to find peices that fit for the layers I 'm on
10:07 PM rue_shop2: ... zhanx_workshop uh 2500V?
10:07 PM rue_shop2: did you land a power line transformer?
10:13 PM Tom_L: long string of AA batteries :)
10:15 PM rue_mohr: 1667 of them
10:15 PM rue_mohr: 0.83Ah
10:17 PM rue_mohr: at 0.5A it they would last 42 minutes
10:17 PM rue_mohr: or 30, hard to keep a line on this graph
10:18 PM rue_mohr: ah wrong line, yea about 42
10:20 PM zhanx_workshop: lol
10:20 PM zhanx_workshop: its a microwave transformer
10:20 PM rue_mohr: oh good
10:22 PM rue_mohr: why high votlage, makes it a bit trickey to get near the elements
10:22 PM zhanx_workshop: cause its what i have?
10:22 PM rue_mohr: what about 120V or 240V?
10:22 PM rue_mohr: lots of parallel
10:23 PM zhanx_workshop: 120v right to the wire?
10:24 PM rue_mohr: you fold the end of the nichrome over itself a few times to drop the resistance, (makes a cooler end) and use the metal bit from a european barrier strip to splice it to a peice of copper wire (mineral insulated)
10:27 PM zhanx_workshop: either way the system will be turned off when the door is opened
