12:28 AM rue_bed2: Tom_L, got a project planned?
12:34 AM rue_bed2: how much was it?
01:42 AM zhanx_shop: 8 hours late
01:42 AM zhanx_shop: later
01:42 AM zhanx_shop: i have the 3d printer back up
01:43 AM zhanx_shop: work benches in
01:43 AM zhanx_shop: and cut up a angle iron dolly to make a table with the legs from a tree stand
01:43 AM zhanx_shop: wifi relay from the house is in
01:43 AM zhanx_shop: etc
03:23 AM polprog: rue_mohr: ask about what :)?
03:23 AM polprog: huh, so apparently people nowadays sit on telegram and that matrix thing
03:24 AM polprog: well, i cba to install/set up *yet another* 2 communicators
03:25 AM polprog: maybe ill try matrix when im back. but its giving me tinfoil tuesday vibes
03:26 AM polprog: and xmpp. one person suggested that
03:27 AM polprog: i was sure xmpp died when facebook disabled their messenger gateway for it
03:38 AM polprog: in other news
03:39 AM polprog: i dont think i have any center-zero d'arsonval meter.. which could be a problem with my transistor pair tester project
03:40 AM polprog: as it should be able to show both negative and positive voltage
03:40 AM polprog: i guess ill have to mask up and go get some when im home
06:17 AM Tom_L: rue_bed2, https://www.ebay.com/itm/BS-0-Semi-5-Indexing-Dividing-Spiral-Head-3-Jaw-Chuck-Tailstock-CNC-Milling/112262120558?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649
07:09 AM rue_mohr: not bad, looks like a nice kit
07:15 AM polprog: morning rue_mohr
07:26 AM rue_mohr: yea...
07:26 AM rue_mohr: I still need a half hour sleep
07:26 AM polprog: what was it you wanted to ask me
07:26 AM Tom_L: at least
07:27 AM rue_mohr: dunno
08:29 AM aandrew: wifi relay, I need to put one of those in the garage, or not so much a relay as a second AP
08:29 AM aandrew: what's the magic acronym I look for which allows separate APs to "share" an SSID so clients can wander between them without trouble (each has its own ethernet uplink)
09:06 AM polprog: i just had to set up the same ssid, password and authentication method on both APs
09:08 AM rue_mohr: mesh
09:19 AM aandrew: rue_mohr: no, mesh is what allows a client to get to the uplink THROUGH a number of other devices
09:20 AM rue_mohr: I'm sure on the ones I'v worked with it also controls the handoff
09:20 AM aandrew: I just want the two APs to be aware of each other and clients and be able to pass them back and forth. I think I can do that just fine without the APs being aware of each other but it's "cleaner" if they can communicate
09:20 AM polprog: I dont think they need to handoff.. in wi-fi?
09:23 AM aandrew: not so much handoff, but "AP1 sees CLIENT1 strength as fading, but AP2 has a stronger signal so tell CLIENT1 to switch over to AP2 instead of trying to maintain a connection with AP1" kind of thing
09:27 AM polprog: i think thats up to the client
09:27 AM rue_mohr: thats... handoff tho....
09:27 AM polprog: shame my router is not accessible, id log in and chrck how i had that set up
09:28 AM polprog: no, i mean. the client just disconnects from one ap and connects to the otger. APs dont negotiate that between them
04:13 PM aandrew: polprog: correct, it’s ultimately up to the client but I seem to remember there is some standard protocol which helps all this work better
05:08 PM DeskMoon: exit
05:08 PM DeskMoon: woops
05:14 PM Tom_L: POOF!
05:18 PM polprog: aandrew: huh, ill have to check it out then. thanks
06:01 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, what causes those 4' shop led strips to cut out?
06:01 PM Tom_L: sometimes it's fine
09:37 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr got lost in the woods and never came home
09:38 PM rue_mohr: ?
09:38 PM rue_mohr: flash or just go out?
09:38 PM Tom_L: go very dim
09:38 PM rue_mohr: got caught up in things
09:39 PM Tom_L: but sometimes it works ok
09:39 PM Tom_L: it's right over my mill so it's kindof annoying
09:39 PM Tom_L: i could swap it for one i don't use as much
09:40 PM Tom_L: but if it's fixable i wouldn't mind fixing it
10:00 PM rue_mohr: its an led retrofit lamps?
10:00 PM rue_mohr: p
10:00 PM rue_mohr: one lamp or two?
10:01 PM Tom_L: 2 strips
10:01 PM Tom_L: not glass
10:02 PM rue_mohr: oh like 12V strips?
10:02 PM Tom_L: https://www.samsclub.com/p/4ft-led-5000l-shop-light/prod22820266
10:03 PM rue_mohr: cool
10:03 PM rue_mohr: prolly a messed up ballast
10:03 PM Tom_L: yeah when they work
10:03 PM Tom_L: i didn't know if they used a ballast or just what
10:04 PM Tom_L: haven't opened one up yet
10:04 PM Tom_L: it just started messin up
10:05 PM Tom_L: https://glockcnc.com/taig-sherline-motor-upgrade/
10:06 PM Tom_L: she almost let me get one..
10:06 PM Tom_L: 1.2kw
10:06 PM Tom_L: $$ but i don't know what i'm doing with that sort of stuff
10:06 PM zhanx_shop: ok its hot out
10:06 PM Tom_L: nice n cool here today
10:07 PM zhanx_shop: but most of the steel switch and outlet boxes are mounted
10:07 PM zhanx_shop: i am gonna cheat and run the conduit later
10:07 PM rue_mohr: so it turns out I should have gone shopping
10:07 PM rue_mohr: today
10:07 PM rue_mohr: yesterday I paid my land tax, income tax, and utility fees
10:07 PM rue_mohr: not much left in the account today...
10:08 PM Tom_L: somebody's always there to take it
10:08 PM zhanx_shop: same here, not doing much more purchasing this month for sure
10:09 PM zhanx_shop: but i need wire for the welder so....
10:09 PM Tom_L: power or consumables?
10:10 PM zhanx_shop: consumables
10:10 PM Tom_L: i got a big spool a while back that should last me til the end
10:11 PM Tom_L: not the little 3-4" ones
10:11 PM Tom_L: i have some of those too
10:11 PM zhanx_shop: i need a better welder but its hard to replace yourself
10:12 PM Tom_L: i can make it stick but it ain't always pretty
10:12 PM zhanx_shop: same here
10:13 PM Tom_L: i found out early on the gas wasn't making it to the tip
10:13 PM Tom_L: the hose wasn't seated right inside the welder
10:13 PM zhanx_shop: i dont have gas yet
10:14 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Welding/test_bead.jpg
10:14 PM Tom_L: i think that was an 'after' shot
10:14 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Welding/test_bead2.jpg
10:15 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Welding/Z_Column_tack2.jpg
10:15 PM Tom_L: either a 'before' or i forgot to turn on the gas
10:16 PM rue_mohr: that would be pretty good with no gas
10:16 PM rue_mohr: flux core sucks
10:16 PM Tom_L: i hate that shit
10:16 PM Tom_L: i got a roll for a trailer i did for a friend we had to do outside
10:17 PM rue_mohr: ok, so I'v worked out what I should have done when I got home from work today
10:17 PM Tom_L: spatters all over
10:17 PM Tom_L: and you gotta reverse the polarity
10:17 PM rue_mohr: oh, rev pol for flux core?
10:17 PM rue_mohr: didn't know that
10:17 PM Tom_L: pretty sure
10:18 PM Tom_L: you might ask around
10:18 PM zhanx_shop: i will try it
10:18 PM rue_mohr: so
10:18 PM rue_mohr: in an oppinion standoff between me and some guys at work, we bought a $700 small battery tester
10:19 PM rue_mohr: I ran it today on about 40 batteries I have here
10:19 PM rue_mohr: if anything it shows my tester is ok, but should be rougher
10:19 PM rue_mohr: I test at 1 ohm
10:19 PM rue_mohr: it looks like the interesting stuff is at about 0.5 ohms
10:20 PM rue_mohr: a good battery is somewhere about 0.02 ohms
10:20 PM Tom_L: small length of wire?
10:20 PM rue_mohr: by the time its hit 0.08 ohms, its pretty bad
10:20 PM rue_mohr: you can see 0.08 ohms clearly on mine, 0.04 gets a bit sketchy, and less you cant tell
10:21 PM rue_mohr: I used a nichrome heater
10:22 PM rue_mohr: you hook it to a battery and it tells you the AH in about 3 seconds
10:22 PM Tom_L: huh
10:22 PM rue_mohr: there is general skeptisism regarding how accurate they are
10:23 PM rue_mohr: to the point that on the new model the manufacturer added a fudge pot
10:23 PM Tom_L: oh. i tried a slitting saw tonight
10:23 PM rue_mohr: oo
10:23 PM rue_mohr: do you have enough power for that?
10:23 PM Tom_L: i've got a few
10:23 PM Tom_L: no not really but i didn't push it
10:23 PM Tom_L: that's why the spindle upgrade...
10:24 PM rue_mohr: heh
10:24 PM Tom_L: ~2.6" wheel
10:24 PM Tom_L: 600rpm 2ipm
10:24 PM Tom_L: did ok
10:24 PM Tom_L: 72 tooth
10:24 PM Tom_L: in that brass rod i carved yesterday
10:24 PM rue_mohr: k
10:24 PM Tom_L: like a screwdriver slot
10:25 PM rue_mohr: how wide?
10:25 PM Tom_L: .040
10:25 PM rue_mohr: oh
10:25 PM rue_mohr: I was thinking 0.25
10:25 PM Tom_L: these are thin blades
10:25 PM Tom_L: the other one may be thinner
10:25 PM rue_mohr: :( I'v only used my milling machine once
10:25 PM Tom_L: then i've got 2 small ones that are 1/16" wide
10:25 PM rue_mohr: I want to do some dovetail sliders with it
10:26 PM Tom_L: i got a dovetail cutter
10:26 PM Tom_L: 60 deg iirc
10:26 PM Tom_L: never used it yet
10:26 PM Tom_L: was gonna
10:26 PM Tom_L: oh then this one:
10:26 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Cutter.jpg
10:26 PM rue_mohr: oof
10:26 PM Tom_L: heh
10:27 PM Tom_L: need more spindle...
10:27 PM rue_mohr: yea
10:27 PM Tom_L: not sure what angle that one is
10:30 PM rue_mohr: uh ho, hearing the voices
10:31 PM rue_mohr: better start supper
10:33 PM Tom_L: pics..
10:34 PM rue_mohr: of?
10:36 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/rotary/RotaryTest3.jpg
10:36 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/rotary/RotaryTest4.jpg
10:36 PM rue_mohr: ha nice
10:37 PM Tom_L: kinda fun
10:37 PM rue_mohr: how square is the cut?
10:37 PM rue_mohr: looks like a round edge
10:37 PM Tom_L: the hex?
10:37 PM Tom_L: i sanded it a little
10:37 PM rue_mohr: the slots
10:37 PM Tom_L: burrs
10:37 PM rue_mohr: the bottom looks U not |_|
10:37 PM rue_mohr: k
10:37 PM Tom_L: it's pretty square
10:38 PM Tom_L: 3 shows the flat better
10:38 PM rue_mohr: wait there is a pattern in my life
10:38 PM rue_mohr: once upon a time, I set out to get engine parts I needed to make a compressor
10:39 PM rue_mohr: the people I talked to said "why dont you just take this compressor"
10:39 PM rue_mohr: I went to a shop asking about cold-rolled to make a cnc mill, and someone turned about and said "why dont you guy mien for <steal of a price>
10:39 PM rue_mohr: "
10:40 PM Tom_L: heh
10:40 PM Tom_L: so why don't you?
10:42 PM Tom_L: i do need to trim down the plate on the z axis though
10:42 PM Tom_L: i left it big not knowing what spindle i'd end up with
10:42 PM Tom_L: it gets in the way sometimes
10:42 PM rue_mohr: well
10:42 PM rue_mohr: I dont have anywhere to put it
10:42 PM rue_mohr: *but*
10:43 PM * zhanx_shop doesnt want to clutter like rue
10:43 PM rue_mohr: I got it cause one of the fellows I know had just, like a month earlier, asked if I knew anyone with a milling machine he could use
10:43 PM rue_mohr: and he had a bit of garage space
10:43 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Z_Axis_standoff_new.jpg
10:43 PM Tom_L: i need to trim those flanges down some eventually
10:44 PM Tom_L: so he's still got it?
10:44 PM Tom_L: i remember that
10:50 PM Tom_L: mmm i should sleep
10:51 PM rue_mohr: yea
10:51 PM rue_mohr: I dont have anywhere for it yet
10:51 PM Tom_L: you will
10:52 PM rue_mohr: yep
10:52 PM rue_mohr: I'm confident its safe
10:52 PM Tom_L: i'm pretty content with this thing
10:53 PM rue_mohr: yea, it come out great
10:53 PM Tom_L: beef up the spindle and i can probably call it done
10:53 PM Tom_L: that was in the plan from the beginning
10:53 PM rue_mohr: and give the old ones its spindle back
10:53 PM Tom_L: no, i'll keep the sherline spindle
10:53 PM Tom_L: just use a bldc on it instead
10:53 PM Tom_L: i got too many holders for it
10:54 PM rue_mohr: I need to go thru my cnc parts box
10:54 PM rue_mohr: if I could put all the stuff togethor I'd probably find I have everyting to just assemble it
10:54 PM rue_mohr: I need a z axis for the big one
10:54 PM rue_mohr: and motor controllers
10:54 PM rue_mohr: lost my edge on that project
10:55 PM rue_mohr: hard to pick back up
10:55 PM Tom_L: i'm lost when it comes to motors and controllers
10:55 PM rue_mohr: my uncertianty is about performance
10:55 PM Tom_L: that one i'm looking at runs at over 300v
10:55 PM rue_mohr: now sure what I need
10:55 PM rue_mohr: not sure what I need
10:55 PM rue_mohr: as far as step latency and things
10:56 PM rue_mohr: fancy stuff thats not spec'd
10:56 PM Tom_L: you lookin at lcnc? or grbl still?
10:56 PM rue_mohr: steppers 'ring' when they step
10:56 PM rue_mohr: dunno by how much
10:56 PM rue_mohr: grbl for now
10:56 PM * zhanx_shop adds reminder to get toms linuxcnc image later for the pi
10:56 PM rue_mohr: but it would just be a step/dir interface
10:57 PM rue_mohr: lcnc cant drive fast enough without the fpga baord
10:57 PM Tom_L: zhanx_shop, i've got a fully installed one
10:57 PM Tom_L: buster
10:57 PM rue_mohr: and if I was going to spend that much money, I wouldn't be having an issue with Z axis sliders
10:57 PM zhanx_shop: i know but i dont need it now and need an image of it in a few weeks
10:57 PM Tom_L: just ask
10:58 PM zhanx_shop: i added a reminder for next month on the phone. i hope i will be almost ready then
10:58 PM Tom_L: there's some config things you can do but i'm not sure they're on that image
10:59 PM zhanx_shop: k
10:59 PM Tom_L: prolly have notes somewhere
10:59 PM Tom_L: i did hook it up to the mill once though
10:59 PM zhanx_shop: need to do the forms for the base it was still too hot today
11:00 PM Tom_L: hear about that blast in Beirut?
11:00 PM Tom_L: sp??
11:00 PM zhanx_shop: saw it
11:00 PM zhanx_shop: 455 kiloton blast
11:00 PM Tom_L: yeah it was big
11:01 PM rue_mohr: ?
11:01 PM zhanx_shop: almost 3 thousand tons of explosives set off by a guy welding
11:02 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDhHThlGL80
11:02 PM Tom_L: that one doesn't show it
11:02 PM zhanx_shop: Tom_L, i find it weird they were welding in a new door will that much shit in there
11:02 PM zhanx_shop: with/will
11:03 PM Tom_L: so was it an accident?
11:03 PM zhanx_shop: that is the new release on it
11:03 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shap1w3NvZQ
11:03 PM zhanx_shop: thing is they store all those tons in one place for years
11:03 PM zhanx_shop: bad idea
11:04 PM rue_mohr: wholy f******
11:05 PM Tom_L: felt 140 miles away
11:06 PM Tom_L: z, percussion welding???
11:06 PM Tom_L: :)
11:06 PM zhanx_shop: lol
11:07 PM Tom_L: they usually do that underground
11:07 PM Tom_L: ok. i'm out
11:09 PM rue_mohr: so what kinda gross negligence lead to that then...?
11:10 PM zhanx_shop: ammonimia nitrate almost 3000 tons for 10 years
11:10 PM zhanx_shop: welder told to put in vent door?
11:11 PM rue_mohr: "I work in this port it was no fireworks this was warehouse 12 the goverment store everything that is flammable and explosives there was ammunition and amonium nitrate that were busted 6 years ago all 2750 tons of it, the fire brigade tried to stop the fire from spreading at first before it reached the amonium but all hell broke loose i dont know if the members are dead there are too many missing people and from the neighboring
11:11 PM rue_mohr: residential areas, my workplace vanished i’m grateful to god that i left early this port was my lifeswork RIP for my friends who died in that place and to all residents of my beloved capitol beirut may god rest and bless their souls. Thank you for your prayers it means a lot coming from you."
11:12 PM zhanx_shop: rue_mohr, it was a medium sized nuke going off
11:13 PM rue_mohr: "The government ignored the warning before 4 months that the nitrate may destroy the city.
11:13 PM rue_mohr: "
