01:19 AM jymmmm: zhanx: Got the new motor installed and running. The fan is MUCH MUCH quieter than before. Is that something I should be concerned with? They gave me a dual speed motor (BLK HIGH, RED LOW), I left the RED disconnected, and just used the BLK.
01:25 AM jymmmm: zhanx: or should BOTH wires be connected for "HIGH" ?
01:36 AM rue_mohr: not usually 2 lines no
01:37 AM rue_mohr: they do 1 wire/speed
01:39 AM jymmmm: Ok cool, I just wasn't 100%, it's jsut SO MUCH quiter now and I don't have a way to read the RPM's
01:40 AM jymmmm: I didn't know if I positioned the blade on the motor at the right height, or that me straightening the bent fins had anything to do with it
01:45 AM zhanx: Jymmmm does it work?
01:50 AM jymmmm: zhanx: Yep =)
01:51 AM jymmmm: It's been running for 10 minutes
01:52 AM jymmmm: I will have to replace the plastic water splash thingy though
01:53 AM jymmmm: IDK what it's even called, lol
02:09 AM jymmmm: zhanx: TYVM :D
03:30 AM polprog: rue_mohr: noone likes the cap tester :'(
08:30 AM rue_bed: I noticed
08:30 AM rue_bed: whatever, its a great tool
08:32 AM rue_bed: I designed it (how far I dont recall) for in-circuit testing during me electronic repair days
08:32 AM rue_bed: pulling caps out for basic testing wasn't practical
08:43 AM jymmmm: HAters just want to hate
06:03 PM Tom_itx: rue_mohr, here's your gearbox: https://grabcad.com/library/printable-gearbox-planetix-1
06:11 PM Tom_itx: https://grabcad.com/library/high-rate-planetary-mechanism-1
06:59 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, dont want to print the gears tho...
07:00 PM rue_mohr: I'd rather use the injection ones I have a huge box of
07:00 PM Tom_L: i know, i just saw that today
07:01 PM rue_mohr: its odd
07:01 PM rue_mohr: not sure I see the ratio
07:01 PM Tom_L: which one?
07:01 PM rue_mohr: high rate
07:01 PM Tom_L: planetary?
07:03 PM Tom_L: i just thought the other one was fascinating
07:03 PM rue_mohr: <Tom_itx> https://grabcad.com/library/high-rate-planetary-mechanism-1
07:03 PM rue_mohr: yea thats, complex
07:04 PM Tom_L: input and output ride on an offcenter arm
07:04 PM Tom_L: of different lengths
07:05 PM Tom_L: first reduction is yellow to blue and the 2nd one is from grey to green
07:05 PM rue_mohr: yep
07:06 PM rue_mohr: huh, well I can't find ma
07:06 PM Tom_L: at the rpm you're planning you're gonna need something precision
07:06 PM rue_mohr: funny that
07:06 PM rue_mohr: so
07:06 PM rue_mohr: I had a thoguht about backlash
07:06 PM rue_mohr: and gearboxes
07:07 PM rue_mohr: it resulted in a thought about two motors for an axis,
07:07 PM rue_mohr: both on sloppy gearboxes
07:07 PM rue_mohr: the controller uses them a *bit* against each other
07:07 PM rue_mohr: the lash of each is taken by the other
07:08 PM rue_mohr: the controller can run one just a bit behind or so
07:08 PM Tom_L: too much torsion
07:08 PM rue_mohr: it does double the motors/gearboxes tho
07:08 PM rue_mohr: maybe no
07:08 PM rue_mohr: you dont have to have lots of 'sealing force'
07:08 PM Tom_L: and heat from them working against each other
07:08 PM rue_mohr: matter a fact you can ride them togethor when jogging
07:09 PM rue_mohr: not meccisarily a lot
07:09 PM rue_mohr: I mean, rapids could even gang them up to push things faster
08:18 PM jymmmm: zhanx My new AC unit... https://i.imgur.com/uU5Jfto.jpg
08:33 PM zhanx_: Works
08:36 PM jymmmm: zhanx =)
08:38 PM jymmmm: zhanx Oh, whats the name of the thing you place on the motor shaft that spins water away from the motor?
08:40 PM Tom_L: impeller?
08:41 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: No, it's a plastic thing like a cap with a hole in the middle,
08:41 PM jymmmm: It spins with the motor, and deflacts water away from the motor
08:42 PM Tom_L: a spinny thingie
08:43 PM jymmmm: yeah
08:44 PM Tom_L: dunno, mine has a center plate on the frame to do that then the fan blows it up and away
08:46 PM jymmmm: https://i.imgur.com/oXYaIom.jpg
08:48 PM jymmmm: the black plastic thing over the motor
08:49 PM jymmmm: without the cover... https://i.imgur.com/5lBT6FB.jpg
08:54 PM zhanx_: You mean the cover?
08:55 PM jymmmm: Top of the motor without the black plastic spinner cap... https://i.imgur.com/pUd3630.jpg
08:55 PM Tom_L: mine isn't like that
08:56 PM zhanx_: You mean the spacer
08:56 PM jymmmm: zhanx_: As I understand it, that black plastic thin is intended to deflect (spin away) water from the motor
08:56 PM jymmmm: thing*
08:56 PM Tom_L: the thing on the motor doesn't spin
08:56 PM Tom_L: it just sits there
08:56 PM zhanx_: You can hose that motor down while it's running
08:56 PM jymmmm: It spins, just spinds freely
08:56 PM zhanx_ is now known as zhanx
08:57 PM Tom_L: what about it?
08:57 PM zhanx: No clue what it's called but deflecting rain I doubt
08:58 PM jymmmm: I was looking for the name to find a replacment, that one is really cracked
08:58 PM zhanx: I am in and out been smoking a pork butt for 8 hours it's almost done
08:58 PM Tom_L: you're not gonna find one to fit since the end housing is a bit different
08:58 PM jymmmm: The bigger issue isn't water, but refreezing iciicles
08:59 PM zhanx: Jymmmm I wouldn't worry about it
08:59 PM zhanx: You said it's a heat pump right?
08:59 PM jymmmm: zhanx: When it snows, and goes into defrost, I get a HUGE build up of solid ice around the edges of the blades
09:00 PM jymmmm: zhanx: yes
09:00 PM Tom_L: hmm
09:00 PM zhanx: Cover the unit with a lean-to
09:00 PM jymmmm: I have to break it off with a hammer
09:00 PM zhanx: Problem solved
09:01 PM jymmmm: zhanx: Yeah, I'm actually working on that, trying to figure out how to for the area it's in
09:02 PM zhanx: 4 buckets of cenmen with posts and a detachable roof
09:02 PM zhanx: Cement
09:02 PM jymmmm: Ha, barely enough room to get my ass in front of the control panel =)
09:03 PM zhanx: If your ass fits that will fit
09:05 PM jymmmm: zhanx: "Does my butt look big in this chat room?"
09:05 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/SLG0123-Upgraded-Replacement-Condenser-Slinger/dp/B06XNK82ZR
09:05 PM zhanx: It's 6 characters wide
09:05 PM Tom_L: that one fits on the shaft though it appears
09:05 PM jymmmm: SLINGER , that's it! ty Tom_L
09:06 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: Yeah, so does mine, just slips over the shaft
09:06 PM Tom_L: https://www.sling.com/
09:06 PM Tom_L: those are slingers

09:09 PM Tom_L: bottom of that has different ones
09:09 PM zhanx: Sweeet it's only gonna be 101 tomorrow. I am going fishing

09:13 PM jymmmm: zhanx: <--- Asbestos Man
09:13 PM jymmmm: I like his puller... https://youtu.be/qyBGvbWQfWU?t=233
09:13 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: TY
09:13 PM zhanx: Jymmmm I also wear sandels in the snow
09:14 PM jymmmm: zhanx: You a member of the polar bear club too?
09:14 PM zhanx: Once and only once. Ranks up there was most retarded things I have done
09:15 PM jymmmm: haha
09:15 PM zhanx: With/was
09:15 PM zhanx: Jymmmm and yes I jumped out of airplanes for 15 years
09:16 PM jymmmm: Jumping out of a peerfectly good airplane is fine by me
09:16 PM zhanx: Yep
09:18 PM jymmmm: IDK, but I'm surprised that an open motor has no problem with water
09:20 PM Tom_L: did you clean the ID of the fan hub before you put it back on?
09:20 PM zhanx: All the windings are insulated
09:20 PM jymmmm: But, I'm always surprised that by electrical panels are weather proof too =)
09:21 PM jymmmm: zhanx: new motor on the left https://i.imgur.com/pUd3630.jpg
09:21 PM Tom_L: new meter on the right
09:21 PM zhanx: Ok brb
09:21 PM jymmmm: s/meter/paperweight/
09:22 PM Tom_L: you blew it up already?
09:22 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: It blew up 10 minutes before I pulled in the driveway with the new replacement motor
09:22 PM Tom_L: the meter?
09:22 PM jymmmm: OH no, the old motor
09:23 PM Tom_L: i see the motor is crap
09:23 PM jymmmm: And stunk up the house too
09:23 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: Sorry, I thought you were calling the old motor the meter being funny
09:24 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: I really like the Min/Max on the meter
09:24 PM Tom_L: send rue the endbell so he can melt it down
09:24 PM jymmmm: it's all steel, no more muffins for Ma
09:30 PM Tom_L: did that meter come with a thermocouple?
09:30 PM Tom_L: for temp
09:30 PM jymmmm: YEs
09:31 PM Tom_L: looked like the same one i have for my meter
09:33 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: Notice the red probe tip vs the black one... https://i.imgur.com/115nSai.jpg
09:33 PM zhanx: My neighbor "smelled" smoke and drove over to check on me
09:33 PM zhanx: Aka wondered if it was done yet
09:33 PM jymmmm: zhanx: with knife and fork in hand?
09:33 PM Tom_L: jymmmm, what about it?
09:33 PM zhanx: Jymmmm darn near
09:34 PM jymmmm: zhanx: you should have handed him a rag.... to wipe of the drool
09:34 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: removable tip covers
09:34 PM Tom_L: ya
09:34 PM zhanx: Jymmmm can't blame him. Been smoking it for 7 hours now
09:35 PM Tom_L: until you lose them
09:35 PM jymmmm: zhanx: lol
09:35 PM jymmmm: Tom_L: HAHA, yep =)
09:35 PM zhanx: I still have my tip covers
09:35 PM zhanx: I glued them on
09:36 PM jymmmm: I need to find a NICE pair of piercing probes, my Pomona ones crapped out
09:37 PM zhanx: I have a set of back probes for connectors
09:37 PM zhanx: Helps not to pierce stuff
09:38 PM zhanx: It's a snapon kit so you know I over paid for it
09:38 PM jymmmm: lol
09:38 PM jymmmm: and NOT lifetime guarntted
09:39 PM jymmmm: Oh, I've seen that kit.... it's frickin crazy
09:39 PM zhanx: I was troubleshooting a bus wiring and needed it so I got it
09:39 PM zhanx: TCM ended up being bad
09:39 PM Tom_L: i got a bunch of snap-on when i was alot younger
09:40 PM zhanx: Snap-on always replaced large wrenches I would twist
09:41 PM Tom_L: yeah they were good about replacements
09:41 PM Tom_L: just harder for me to find one now
09:41 PM zhanx: First time I exchanged 34mm double box wrench the guy was scared
09:43 PM jymmmm: These dont' look too bad https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000529699877.html
09:44 PM Tom_L: those are long
09:45 PM jymmmm: might be good for hard to reach, plus they screw tight, not spring loaded
09:46 PM Tom_L: until the tip snaps off
09:46 PM zhanx: I was thinking the same Tom
09:50 PM jymmmm: cheap enough
09:53 PM Tom_L: get more than one pair if you do
10:05 PM zhanx: A backup for the backup with a spare for the main and a reserve for the backups
10:09 PM jymmmm: zhanx: that sounds like my heating and power setup
10:09 PM jymmmm: HVAC, wood stove, BIG BUDDY propane heater, Portable Buddy propane heater
10:10 PM jymmmm: 250Gal propane tank, 7 5gal tanks, 8 1lb disposable tanks
10:10 PM Tom_L: good pair of coveralls is all you need
10:12 PM jymmmm: 4800 dual fuel gen, Honda EU2000i gen, a tiny power station, and the one I'm trying to build
10:12 PM jymmmm: And you've already seen my GhettoFaboulus Garage AC
10:13 PM zhanx: Heat is over rated
10:16 PM jymmmm: Years ago the wall heater in the place we rented went out in the middle of winter, the slumlord took days to return the call, I fixed it the next day, but I researched like hell to find a indoor safe heat solution and the Buddy heaters resolved that.
10:18 PM jymmmm: Since can't run at night when sleeping, using an electric blanket and inverter with a 56# deep cycle battery, just a PITA to haul in/out to charge each day.
10:19 PM jymmmm: Thus this battery I'm building
10:19 PM Tom_L: what's your average winter low?
10:19 PM jymmmm: low 30's
10:22 PM zhanx: Neg 30s?
10:27 PM Tom_L: it's not antartic!
10:29 PM zhanx: I got to neg 50s in NY
10:30 PM jymmmm: zhanx: Yeah, but your a polar bear, doesn't count =)
10:30 PM jymmmm: Huh, it's interesting how a reversing valve works.
10:30 PM jymmmm: Do they still use reversing valve on modern HVAC units?
10:31 PM zhanx: Wait if I am polar bear why am I in 105 degree temps ?
10:31 PM zhanx: Jymmmm depends on the manufacturer
10:31 PM jymmmm: zhanx: you shedded your winter coat
10:31 PM zhanx: Thankfully I am not a hairy person
10:31 PM jymmmm: reversing valve cut away... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jr9d3KIfwY
10:31 PM jymmmm: zhanx: ah ok
10:32 PM zhanx: 8 minutes till rest for the smoked pork
10:32 PM zhanx: I am clock watching, sucks
10:33 PM jymmmm: zhanx: full pig?
10:33 PM zhanx: Just 9 pounds
10:33 PM zhanx: It was on sale
10:33 PM jymmmm: ah
10:34 PM zhanx: Pull pork dinner
10:34 PM zhanx: I am / have been on keto over a year now
10:34 PM jymmmm: sounds good
10:34 PM jymmmm: does it work ?
10:35 PM zhanx: For me yes
10:36 PM zhanx: It's not for everyone
10:38 PM jymmmm: k
10:38 PM zhanx: Jymmmm a person needs to learn their body etc
10:39 PM zhanx: Rue is a veggiematic etc
10:40 PM jymmmm: vegetarian no problem, vegan, no thanks.
10:47 PM zhanx: https://imgur.com/a/A1wZB1x
10:47 PM zhanx: Resting time
10:50 PM jymmmm: zhanx: I'll be there in 10 minutes, knife in hand
11:57 PM zhanx_ is now known as zhanx
11:58 PM zhanx: Jymmmm I snuck a piece while resting. It's epic
