12:29 AM rue_mohr: 36T 4F for 12V->36V push-pull
12:34 AM rue_mohr: 8T Royer feedback (dont forget the Royer feedback)
12:34 AM rue_mohr: 2F 8T for filament
01:46 AM rue_mohr: morning
04:21 AM polprog: moring
04:22 AM polprog: wait, there cant be a morning at the same time here and at your place
04:22 AM polprog: pants on fire..
04:23 AM polprog: ok, next up is to go get the actual magnet wire.. im having problems finding long enough wire pieces
04:23 AM polprog: then, wind another transformer again.. possibly on the yellow core that was okay
04:23 AM polprog: or better, characterize the various smaller cores i have..
04:23 AM polprog: i think characterizing will help me pick the right ones
04:24 AM polprog: how did i make histograms in gnuplot again
09:02 AM rue_mohr: yes, the cores can be quite different.
09:22 AM polprog: lab report done
09:22 AM polprog: im a free man now
09:24 AM rue_mohr: so this afternoon I have to do a bit of backtracking and fix the screen supply
09:25 AM rue_mohr: polprog, I wonder where you can get the right transformers and solinoids to get the wire you need
09:26 AM polprog: i have the wire i need
09:26 AM polprog: i have three drawers worth of it..
09:26 AM polprog: managed to take it before nana cleaned out the basement
09:26 AM polprog: she would probably give it away to the scrappies
09:26 AM polprog: i just need to go down to my basement and retrieve it
09:26 AM rue_mohr: so...
10:10 AM polprog: ill get it next time im down there
10:10 AM polprog: ill probably carry some crap from up here to the basement.. i need to make some space
10:10 AM polprog: i bought a test signal generator
10:11 AM polprog: a nice tek 1910 and not very expensice
10:11 AM polprog: expensive*
04:20 PM polprog: getting that camcorder ready rue_mohr ?
05:29 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, after a week, printer is now printing at .1 layer height, all layers look good, tweaking complete? for now
07:36 PM rue_mohr: yea
08:29 PM rue_mohr: polprog, hmm
08:29 PM rue_mohr: did twitter show the video I posted yet?
08:31 PM Tom_L: i found a simpler one to use as a dpkg example
08:31 PM Tom_L: i think it reads the makefile
08:31 PM rue_mohr: k
08:32 PM Tom_L: the mesaflash is purely c i think
08:32 PM Tom_L: i did a package for it earlier
09:00 PM rue_mohr: polprog, its odd
09:00 PM rue_mohr: aandrew,
09:00 PM rue_mohr: HOW many likes does that thing have??
09:00 PM rue_mohr: twitter seems to have a strange cache thing going on
09:06 PM aandrew: rue_mohr: how many likes does what thing have?
09:07 PM rue_mohr: that silly computer post I did
09:07 PM rue_mohr: thought it was 337, but its showing 228 now
09:07 PM rue_mohr: twitter does funny stuff
09:08 PM aandrew: oh that one
09:08 PM aandrew: with the two ancient "portable" computers
09:08 PM aandrew: you were at 50something last night when I saw it
09:08 PM rue_mohr: yea
09:09 PM rue_mohr: didn't expect that
09:09 PM rue_mohr: and for some reason lots more people followed me to
09:09 PM aandrew: youre at 341 right now
09:09 PM aandrew: so the portable 2 wins
09:10 PM rue_mohr: ok, mine says 227 which is odd
09:10 PM aandrew: you played yourself though
09:10 PM rue_mohr: :)
09:10 PM aandrew: you and polprog are both internet celebrities as far as I'm concerned
09:10 PM aandrew: anytime I try to engage on twitter I end up with a reply or two if I'm lucky
09:10 PM rue_mohr: I went into this expecting maybe 12 follower?
09:11 PM rue_mohr: the feedback is odd
09:11 PM rue_mohr: I much prefer comments/questions than likes
09:11 PM aandrew: my most popular tweet is me paraphrasing some ancient BBS tagline "any technology which is distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced"
09:11 PM rue_mohr: oh there is no logic to it
09:12 PM rue_mohr: stupid little things go crazy and amazing things just sit dead
09:12 PM aandrew: apparently I am in some Danish coffee table book of quotes for something I wrote as a teenager on some BBS: "what if there were no hypothetical questions?"
09:12 PM rue_mohr: heh
09:13 PM rue_mohr: I have to wonder if everyone who put a like on it will watch the video?
09:13 PM aandrew: so my 25yo stepson has been home with us for almost two weeks now, quarantined in his sister's room (who is now in her youngest brother's room, who is now sleeping with my wife and I'm sleeping with the 11yo son you met)
09:14 PM aandrew: 25yo son has a german shepherd whose company I've always liked, and ever since they moved home I've been doing the bulk of caring for the dog
09:14 PM aandrew: walks, feeding, playing endless fetch with
09:14 PM aandrew: he doesn't really listen to anyone else and dislikes when others play fetch with him :-)
09:15 PM rue_mohr: heh
09:15 PM aandrew: I try to teach the boys how to not be so damned jumpy around him, and how to talk in a more commanding voice
09:15 PM aandrew: but they both want to play with him at the same time so they're both trying to get him to do things and the poor dog is just like "fuck this shit, Ima bring the stick to this old dude, he knows how to play with me"
09:15 PM rue_mohr: hah
09:16 PM aandrew: this frustrates the boys to no end but is good practice for what taking care of a dog is really like
09:16 PM aandrew: oh and when I take them for walks with the dog and I they really dislike the whole picking up the dogshit and that's my current excuse for not having a dog for them
09:17 PM aandrew: I do miss having pets though. I grew up with dogs and cats and squirrels and snakes and rabbits and birds and fish
09:17 PM rue_mohr: perfect
09:17 PM rue_mohr: so, the screen driver blew up yesterday
09:17 PM rue_mohr: I need to do some rework before I'm back to postiive progress
09:17 PM aandrew: hopefully not taking the filaments with it
09:18 PM rue_mohr: no filament was ok
09:18 PM rue_mohr: not sure about all my driver chips
09:18 PM aandrew: what was the failure mode?
09:18 PM rue_mohr: I dont mine losing the 74hc595, hope the other drivers are ok
09:18 PM rue_mohr: well
09:18 PM rue_mohr: from what I can tell the oscillator feedback coil shorted to the output coil
09:18 PM rue_mohr: *in* the transformer
09:19 PM rue_mohr: I was going to add more insulation in there, so...
09:19 PM rue_mohr: When I opened it up, it was ok, and the short cleared
09:19 PM aandrew: hm, nick in the wire just ending up perfectly lining up, or hot spot?
09:19 PM aandrew: you're not really pushing current so I kind of doubt the latter
09:20 PM rue_mohr: I think it got thru some insuation on a sharp point
09:20 PM rue_mohr: it burned up the ground of the supply, and might have fed 12V to the 5V rail
09:20 PM rue_mohr: but the avr is ok
09:20 PM aandrew: eep
09:21 PM rue_mohr: and their sensitive, so I think its all ok
09:21 PM rue_mohr: the dupont wires are completely burnt up
09:21 PM aandrew: that's a lot of current
09:21 PM rue_mohr: at first I thought the dupont ground line was a bad connection and it escalated
09:21 PM aandrew: so something definitely took it
09:21 PM rue_mohr: about 300mA
09:22 PM aandrew: are the dupont wires melted or blown open?
09:22 PM rue_mohr: melted apart and one blown open
09:22 PM aandrew: 300mA isn't a lot so melted suggests a long cook
09:22 PM aandrew: maybe melted untils omething shorted, blowing the other one open
09:23 PM rue_mohr: could have
09:23 PM rue_mohr: its a really sad supply too
09:23 PM aandrew: kind of reminds me of SCR failure analysis back in my previous life
09:24 PM aandrew: you could tell by disassembling the hockey puck what kind of failure it was (if it wasn't obvious otherwise)
09:28 PM aandrew: haha it looks like there's a big spider in the sky in front of my house: https://imgur.com/a/i5SRGgx
09:29 PM rue_mohr: :)
10:44 PM rue_shop1: huh there is a shorted turn
10:46 PM rue_shop1: yup
10:46 PM rue_shop1: <rue_mohr> 36T 4F for 12V->36V push-pull
10:46 PM rue_shop1: <rue_mohr> 8T Royer feedback (dont forget the Royer feedback)
10:46 PM rue_shop1: <rue_mohr> 2F 8T for filament
11:51 PM rue_shop1: ok, transformer is rewound and things are working again
