04:31 AM polprog: thanks rue!
04:36 AM polprog: the test display actually is like a 7 seg, but has a vertical bar split in two segs in the middle
04:36 AM polprog: so its a 9 seg
06:00 AM zhanx_ is now known as zhanx
08:40 AM rue_bed: surre, bump the character generator lookup to 16 bits and mask in the columns
08:40 AM rue_bed: that display I have is 9 as well, a normal 7, plus a dp and a ' for 1000's places
09:33 AM rue_mohr: polprog, two ways to drive the high voltage generally
09:33 AM rue_mohr: I used to use pullup resistors with drivers like uln2003
09:34 AM rue_mohr: but the resistors throw a lot of power
09:34 AM rue_mohr: I used pnp drivers for this one UDN2982 (I think) with pulldown resistors (bleed off capacitance of screen)
09:34 AM rue_mohr: but their hard to find
12:05 PM polprog: how big are the pullups?
12:05 PM polprog: ill probably test the screen capacitance..
12:06 PM polprog: mine are 9 seg each, optionally have a :, theres also a symbol grid on either side
12:06 PM polprog: i found a 7 seg from a calculator that has "K" and "M" segments on the side
03:41 PM polprog: lab report on viscosity done
03:41 PM polprog: what a load of BS
04:50 PM aandrew: but was it viscous bs?
05:00 PM polprog: heh, no, it was regular dishwashing liquid
05:00 PM polprog: which - according to it's SDS - is flammable at 220C
05:11 PM aandrew: oh? interesting
05:12 PM polprog: heh, yeah
05:18 PM polprog: nighters
06:22 PM rue_mohr: oops
06:22 PM rue_mohr: 30 already, maybe it can hit 256
06:37 PM Tom_L: large disks are great..... until you back them up
07:07 PM rue_mohr: :)
07:07 PM rue_mohr: my UV water sterilizer arrived...
07:08 PM rue_mohr: apparenly I bought on from amazon
07:08 PM Tom_L: nice
07:08 PM Tom_L: i could have sent you one
07:08 PM rue_mohr: I dont currently know why
07:08 PM Tom_L: i used to have one on a saltwater tank too
07:08 PM rue_mohr: hmm
07:09 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/boards/USBTiny_Mkii/silkscreen/silk_batch_cure.jpg
07:09 PM Tom_L: those would purify something for sure
07:09 PM rue_mohr: !!yep
07:09 PM rue_mohr: why dont I remember you doing photomasking?
07:14 PM Tom_L: it _was_ a while ago
07:19 PM rue_shop1: 18 years wasn't that long
07:19 PM rue_shop1: god, I need to hurry up and become a robot
07:20 PM Tom_L: god was it that long ago?
07:20 PM rue_shop1: <god> yes.
08:54 PM rue_mohr: :) wire wrapping
08:54 PM rue_mohr: if I weren't stressed out it would be relaxing
08:59 PM rue_shop1: and its alive!
09:01 PM Tom_L: yay
09:02 PM rue_shop1: see if I can get the screen working
09:03 PM Tom_L: building lcnc on a pi is a slow process
09:25 PM rue_shop1: ok
09:52 PM rue_shop1: new controller runs screen ok
09:57 PM Tom_L: nice
09:57 PM Tom_L: build installed
09:57 PM Tom_L: .deb package
09:57 PM rue_mohr: ok
09:57 PM rue_mohr: are you sending them the deb?
09:58 PM Tom_L: turns out they built them already
09:58 PM rue_mohr: ok
09:59 PM Tom_L: http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/dists/
09:59 PM rue_mohr: so, I can ask you if I ever need to make debs for my projects....
09:59 PM rue_mohr: ?
09:59 PM Tom_L: sure
09:59 PM Tom_L: it's just a different process from make
09:59 PM Tom_L: http://buildbot.linuxcnc.org/dists/buster/2.8-rtpreempt/binary-armhf/
10:00 PM Tom_L: if i remember...
10:00 PM Tom_L: i've done it a few times but still need to think about it
10:11 PM Tom_L: of course i didn't write the configure script either. i'd be lost there
10:14 PM rue_shop1: ;)
10:17 PM Tom_L: you run that before you build. not sure how it would work on a small project
10:51 PM Tom_L: https://youtu.be/MC0EnJ4XK2M
10:51 PM Tom_L: kindof impressive
11:07 PM rue_shop1: damn
11:07 PM rue_shop1: one of the jumpers I was using had a bad connection
11:07 PM rue_shop1: the power osc for the screen latched up, and sucked so much current it burned up the jumper and blew my transformer
11:10 PM rue_shop1: oh more dastardly
11:10 PM rue_shop1: the transformer shorted the feedback winding to the output winding
11:10 PM rue_shop1: its not burned tho
11:10 PM rue_shop1: assembly issue
