12:50 AM rue_bed: so, I was playing with the power converter there, its messed up
12:56 AM rue_bed: I think I need to start that one again
01:43 AM rue_bed: wow, the nfs server is scrambling files
01:44 AM rue_bed: I have a file thats a count from 00 to FF, and its really messed up
01:44 AM rue_bed: over nfs...
02:56 AM polprog: i woke up and found that a crow has pulled a box of eggs from the table
02:56 AM polprog: poked a hole thru the plastic and ate the eggs
02:56 AM polprog: only 3 were left intact
06:46 AM polprog: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambda_diode
07:13 AM Tom_L: how does a crow get in?
07:46 AM aandrew: polprog: that’s actually kind of impressive
07:47 AM polprog: Tom_L: it doesnt, we keep some of the stuff on the balcony in plastic crates
07:47 AM polprog: the eggs were on the table outside
07:47 AM polprog: aandrew: it is! it knew the eggs were hidden under cover!
08:27 AM aandrew: rue_mohr: that is really messed up. not only does UDP have an (optional) checksum, the ethernet frame has an FCS as well. the only way you're getting corruption is from the software layer
08:58 AM rue_mohr: polprog, well gee that could be used in a relaxation osc :)
08:59 AM rue_mohr: I tried to curve trace the negitive region of a PN2222, but there is something odd about it
08:59 AM rue_mohr: its like its freq sensitive
09:00 AM polprog: pn2222?
09:01 AM polprog: these lambda diodes seem fascinating but i dont think i have any jay-fets at hand :)
09:01 AM aandrew: I have never ever in my life used a jfet
09:02 AM aandrew: they were like mystery magic devices back in my GSIE days
09:02 AM rue_mohr: indeed
09:02 AM rue_mohr: I found out I have a bunch
09:02 AM rue_mohr: at the same time, I found out I have many less ujt than I thought I had
09:03 AM polprog: aandrew: just like me and PNPs :D
09:03 AM rue_mohr: PN2222 is a 2n2222 in a to-92
09:04 AM rue_mohr: technically a 2n2222 is a TO-39
09:04 AM polprog: i need some more BJTs. i only have BC547 from my early days from kits and some power series, BD
09:05 AM polprog: these to-39 packages always seem magical to me
09:05 AM rue_mohr: 100mA
09:05 AM aandrew: polprog: PNP don't bother me anymore, you just swap E and C and think "backwards" :-)
09:05 AM polprog: pretty much yeah :D
09:05 AM rue_mohr: ok gain,
09:05 AM rue_mohr: slow
09:05 AM rue_mohr: (100Mhz)
09:06 AM rue_mohr: I origionally paired PN2222 and 2N3906
09:06 AM polprog: are you trying it now?
09:06 AM rue_mohr: I been trying to switch to 2N5550 & 2N5551
09:06 AM rue_mohr: but their not really better
09:06 AM polprog: im gonna get some BC347s soonish
09:06 AM aandrew: so much to learn yet. This was a page I'd started 20 years (!!) ago to try to catalogue some of it: http://mixdown.ca/~andrew/analog.html
09:06 AM rue_mohr: so now I'm lost in limbo
09:07 AM aandrew: I miss Don. :-( dude went in for knee surgery, aspirated vomit and never woke up. I was really devastated by that
09:07 AM polprog: > Don't expect wads of current out of this. :-)
09:07 AM polprog: hehe
09:07 AM polprog: aandrew: oh. im sorry
09:08 AM aandrew: yeah, was a long long time ago now but still am in utter wonder over his mastery of electronics
09:08 AM polprog: "Turns out the PS2506 is 20x slower than the PS2505 because they are photodarlington outputs instead of single transistor outputs."
09:08 AM polprog: ha! i know why the 4n33 didnt work that well for the ring oscillator
09:08 AM aandrew: he spent his time in the army alone in the aleutian islands up in alaska watching for russian missiles. he says he did a LOT of acid and tinkered with electronics
09:08 AM aandrew: I swear he could see electron flow.
09:09 AM polprog: when you cant get to the parts drawer because it runs away from you or a dragon keeps it, things must sure be interesting
09:10 AM rue_mohr: mmm snatched by dragon
09:10 AM polprog: and not an AVR dragon the less
09:11 AM rue_mohr: not headed into work today, swapping with sunday, but I want to hit up these projects
09:13 AM rue_mohr: hmm 100 ohms is pretty stiff pulldown
09:14 AM aandrew: polprog: lol
09:14 AM rue_mohr: zippo:/etc# ohm -r 100 -v 5
09:14 AM rue_mohr: Power is: 250.000mW
09:14 AM rue_mohr: Current is: 50.000mA
09:14 AM rue_mohr: Voltage is: 5.000V
09:14 AM rue_mohr: Resistance is: 100.000Ohms
09:14 AM rue_mohr: oh I see, its pushed to the technical limit of the 1/4w resistor
09:14 AM rue_mohr: I dont advise that...
09:15 AM rue_mohr: 50mA, I wonder what the effective capacitance is on the transistor
09:16 AM rue_mohr: zippo:/etc# ohm -v 0.7 -i 50m
09:16 AM rue_mohr: Power is: 35.000mW
09:16 AM rue_mohr: Current is: 50.000mA
09:16 AM rue_mohr: Voltage is: 700.000mV
09:16 AM rue_mohr: Resistance is: 14.000Ohms
09:17 AM rue_mohr: I'd not be surprised if that opto starts to feel warm too...
09:17 AM rue_mohr: ok, I need to make breakfast
09:20 AM polprog: what opto?
09:20 AM rue_mohr: on the page, speeding up optos
09:21 AM rue_mohr: suppose I could set up an IV tracer again
09:23 AM polprog: i need to get that done.. build a generic sawtooth gen
09:23 AM polprog: i just need 4-5 hours of free time
09:38 AM aandrew: the opto does not warm up at all
09:38 AM rue_mohr: ok
09:38 AM aandrew: all the work is being done by the external PNP
09:39 AM aandrew: in fact the opto transistor is doing LESS work :-)
09:39 AM rue_mohr: wow, I dont give myself credit for how long it takes me to wake up in the morning...
09:39 AM rue_mohr: :)
09:39 AM aandrew: rue_mohr: yeah my bootup time is pretty bad
09:40 AM aandrew: I am talkative and can look busy but the actual efficiency is pretty low until well after my coffee
09:40 AM rue_mohr: I'v had multiple instances that indicate I'm not as awake as I think I am
09:40 AM aandrew: I usually piss around all morning and start to really "kick in" around 3pm
09:41 AM aandrew: if I get up at 3-4am I can really look like I'm hitting the ground running, but that's just because all my mental wankery time was while people were sleeping
09:42 AM rue_mohr: yep
09:42 AM rue_mohr: I need to have breakfast
09:42 AM rue_mohr: I'm trying a non-workday on work schedule, failing so far
09:44 AM polprog: today i got up at 7
09:44 AM polprog: then went to the living room and slept more on the couch
09:44 AM polprog: :/
09:45 AM rue_mohr: I'm really tired right now
09:48 AM rue_mohr: I'm trying to work out all the different parts of the mind
09:49 AM rue_mohr: like "get-up-and-go"
09:49 AM rue_mohr: and what is off in the morning
09:49 AM rue_mohr: its implied that full conciousness is the co-ordination of lots of parts of the brain that are often not all active togethor
09:57 AM rue_mohr: a good goal is working out how many parts there are
09:57 AM rue_mohr: the parts were concious of are just the tip of it
09:58 AM rue_mohr: there are two parts to being tired, that was an interesting one
10:02 AM polprog: rue, whats that wall mount computers card cage from? cut up chassis?
10:03 AM rue_mohr: heh
10:04 AM rue_mohr: I think its something I spun off on my cnc
10:06 AM rue_mohr: xmms dropped out of my debian menu, had to start it console...
10:22 AM polprog: i like that player
10:22 AM polprog: or was it qmmp
10:22 AM polprog: i think qmmp is newer , not sure if xmms supports winamp skins
01:46 PM rue_mohr: winamp ->xamp ->xmms ->nothing
01:46 PM rue_mohr: xmms2 is just some backend garbage that never went anywhere
01:54 PM rue_mohr: got the cart basically going, ma loves it
01:54 PM polprog: nice
01:55 PM rue_mohr: have to redo a bit of wiring and mount the battery charger to it, maybe some waterproofing
01:55 PM rue_mohr: it'll forever be something that needs work I'm sure
02:06 PM Tom_L: you need something more to do ehh?
02:08 PM rue_mohr: nope, have an order for 2 sprayers!
02:09 PM rue_mohr: I'll get some stuff ready for the partner
02:10 PM Tom_L: you should have 2 built and ready already
02:11 PM rue_mohr: did the electronics up on the cart for ma
02:13 PM polprog: teach ma to make doughnuts on the parking ;)
02:14 PM rue_mohr: turns out just a hair over minimum speed is perfect
04:11 PM rue_mohr: ok, I made up 12 bodies for paint sprayers
04:11 PM rue_mohr: that should last a while
04:11 PM rue_mohr: (no point setting up just to make 2)
04:18 PM rue_mohr: ok,still on my list is printer firmware and looking at my buddies computer
04:26 PM Tom_L: i thought you had hired help for that?
04:27 PM Tom_L: still got plenty of parts in stock?
04:31 PM rue_mohr: yup
04:32 PM rue_mohr: its the first sprayers so far this year
04:32 PM rue_mohr: we have enough general parts for like 20
04:40 PM Tom_L: never saw if those molded parts did the trick...
04:40 PM Tom_L: you drill any to try?
08:25 PM aandrew: happy friday night everyone
08:26 PM aandrew: watched the 2nd harry potter (never read the books, never watched the movies)
08:26 PM aandrew: there are a few memes I get now
08:32 PM aandrew: blerf. wht should I be doing tonight
11:12 PM rue_shop3: just got back from work
11:12 PM rue_shop3: I dont know if we have used any of the cast triggers yet, I think so
11:13 PM rue_shop3: ShopMoon, your developing a habbit
11:13 PM rue_shop3: you take things apart and then give them away
