01:55 AM polprog: my vision gets blurry sometimes.two years ago i was at the doctor and i was told temporary accomodation problems were typical of my age.. but that was 2 years ago
08:28 AM polprog: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EUXDXZ9XQAI6KMZ?format=jpg&name=4096x4096
08:33 AM rue_mohr: nicely done
08:35 AM polprog: thanks
08:35 AM polprog: its shabby but works
08:35 AM polprog: i was thinking, what is the most precise actuator i could have, that could move these blades away from eachother
08:35 AM polprog: they could even be fixed i think
08:36 AM polprog: i wish i had a linear CCD sensor, heh
08:36 AM rue_mohr: scanner
08:36 AM rue_mohr: old multifunction laser printer
08:37 AM polprog: ive got an old slide scanner that's having a faulty backlight
08:38 AM polprog: i could take it apart.. i have another fully working one anyway
01:36 PM polprog: in other news, ive managed to write a DFT algorhitm as uni assignment
01:36 PM polprog: or rather, implement one in c++ based on a formula in the instruction.. but its handy
01:36 PM polprog: ill rewrite it to low level C when i have time
03:10 PM rue_mohr: hey, I rewrote the orgional cooley-turkey one
03:11 PM rue_mohr: turns out the origional fortran is as complex as it is cause they didn't have binary operators
03:11 PM Tom_L: the whoey whoey one?
03:11 PM rue_mohr: I call it cooley-turkey
03:11 PM rue_mohr: thats not their names tho
03:12 PM Tom_L: been out diggin all morning
03:12 PM rue_mohr: instead of re-arranging all the values, I load them in the re-arranged order
03:12 PM rue_mohr: I went to work, got some stuff ready for wed
03:12 PM rue_mohr: looks like it'll be a full day
03:13 PM Tom_L: no quarantine ehh?
03:13 PM Tom_L: you may regret that
03:13 PM rue_mohr: avoiding a lot of things
03:13 PM rue_mohr: got a tire fixed today
03:13 PM Tom_L: take purell in the van and neoprene gloves
03:13 PM Tom_L: nitril*
03:13 PM rue_mohr: "pull into the bay and stay in the car, thanks"
03:14 PM Tom_L: :)
03:14 PM rue_mohr: they found the slow leak that's been plauging it tho
03:14 PM Tom_L: used to be an "insurance violation" if you did
03:14 PM Tom_L: that's their way of keepin ya outta their hair
03:15 PM rue_mohr: :)
03:15 PM rue_mohr: must have been a small leak, took them a bit to find it
03:15 PM rue_mohr: this morning the car was on the rim :/
03:15 PM Tom_L: not good
03:15 PM Tom_L: the s10?
03:15 PM rue_mohr: good thing I have the nice big compressor
03:16 PM rue_mohr: no, work van, its a ford transit
03:16 PM Tom_L: yeah i'd be lost without my compressor
03:16 PM Tom_L: it's a bit big for things i do nowdays
03:41 PM Tom_L: and you thought you were having a bad day: https://youtu.be/-CFTIOQCqTc
03:42 PM rue_mohr: oh did I see this?
03:42 PM rue_mohr: knoks over everything?
03:42 PM rue_mohr: why wasn't the shelving braced then?
03:43 PM rue_mohr: it would have happened eventaully
03:45 PM rue_mohr: it kinda looks likey they didn't ahve the lock pins in either
04:41 PM polprog: oh, hey
04:42 PM polprog: i think the cold turkey one is FFT, im not sure if and how DFT is different than that
04:43 PM polprog: i should weld/solder these two razors together in a fixed manner, so that i can have a handy slit
04:44 PM polprog: i could then measure led wavelengths
04:44 PM polprog: i think
04:52 PM polprog: so as i thought DFT is just FFT on actual discrete data
05:30 PM polprog: that cooley-turkey one is pretty schmart
05:37 PM Tom_L: :)
05:45 PM polprog: nighters
05:45 PM polprog: need to be up in 7h46min
06:15 PM rue_mohr: ah you really did mean dft then, ok
07:11 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, what linux command to show what cpu?
08:04 PM rue_shop1: so I cracked the mold
08:05 PM rue_shop1: there was a bit that didn't get starch, so it hadn't set, I patched it and will let it try to finish setting up
08:05 PM rue_shop1: cat /proc/cpuinfo
09:30 PM Tom_L: i figured it might take a couple days to properly cure
09:38 PM Tom_L: pic?
09:51 PM rue_mohr: sure
09:54 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1150631.jpg
09:54 PM rue_mohr: just one spot that didn't get the starch it needed
09:54 PM Tom_L: yeah leaks would defeat the purpose
09:54 PM rue_mohr: I'll give it a few more days and see if its ok
09:55 PM Tom_L: i thought you said blue rtv
09:55 PM rue_mohr: years ago I had some
09:55 PM rue_mohr: it would be like 18 years old if I still had it
09:55 PM rue_mohr: think it hardened up
09:55 PM Tom_L: i think i've got blue, red, black and maybe silver
09:55 PM Tom_L: not sure which is good
09:56 PM rue_mohr: that red stuff is surplus that came with a heat trace kit
09:56 PM Tom_L: high temp
09:56 PM Tom_L: i think black and silver are too
09:56 PM rue_mohr: the only other stuff I have is regular silicone
09:56 PM rue_mohr: and I'm sure it doesn't hold against gas
10:00 PM Tom_L: https://www.alibaba.com/showroom/plastic-primer-bulb.html
10:01 PM Tom_L: you could patch the old one with the tip from a nitril glove finger inside it
10:01 PM Tom_L: the rigidity would still come from the old part
10:04 PM rue_mohr: its also possible that there is a sthill bulb for old chainsaws that would fit
10:04 PM rue_mohr: I dont think anything is comming in from china
10:05 PM Tom_L: no probably not
10:05 PM rue_mohr: I have 36 things in queue
10:05 PM rue_mohr: I"ll wait for some of those first
10:06 PM Tom_L: i bet the glove trick might work if other attempts fail
10:06 PM rue_mohr: atleast with ali I know I can get my refund
10:06 PM rue_mohr: The gloves I got for chem stuff disintegrated 2 days ago
10:06 PM rue_mohr: they were like a week old
10:06 PM Tom_L: maybe, it might just collapse after the first push
10:07 PM rue_mohr: this looks good
10:07 PM rue_mohr: just need to wait for it to set up
10:07 PM Tom_L: probably needs some 'spring back'
10:07 PM rue_mohr: open like that, it shouldn't take long
10:13 PM Tom_L: have you ever edited the grub config file?
10:13 PM Tom_L: /etc/default/grub
10:14 PM Tom_L: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash isolcpus=3 processor.maxcstate=1 idle=poll"
10:15 PM Tom_L: typically running RTAI is best on older hardware but doing that this guy was able to get good results with mint 19.2 running preempt-rt instead of RTAI
10:16 PM Tom_L: which is quite a bit newer os than wheezy
10:16 PM Tom_L: i'd consider trying it with debian 10 if i thought that would work
10:30 PM rue_mohr: not really, I hate that about grub
10:30 PM Tom_L: some things like that seem to help linuxcnc latency quite a bit
10:31 PM Tom_L: boards vary quite a bit
10:33 PM Tom_L: mine is running fine but i have the same board this guy is using and thought i might test it
10:36 PM rue_mohr: I know grbl doesn't have the features, but I wonder how its performance is sometimes, I suspect, for what it is, its pretty good
10:37 PM Tom_L: not near as much overhead
10:37 PM Tom_L: i think for what it is, it works good
10:46 PM Tom_L: does it handle servos as well as steppers?
10:49 PM rue_mohr: not that I know of
10:49 PM rue_mohr: I thnk the steppers keep all the timers pretty busy
10:49 PM rue_mohr: I looked into the code once, its horris
10:50 PM Tom_L: you've not seen lcnc's code then
10:50 PM Tom_L: it's probably worse
