12:23 AM rue_mohr: rotator
02:30 AM polprog: rue_mohr: sure, would be interesting to take a look
11:32 AM polprog: is it safe to charge 18650 cells in paralell?
12:23 PM Tom_L: ABSOLUTELY NOT
12:23 PM Tom_L: acording to google
12:24 PM Tom_L: you MUST make sure that cells are at the same open circuit voltage (and therefore SoC ) before connecting them in parallel! You don't need a balancing charger with cells in parallel - that's for cells in series.
12:33 PM polprog: good to know
12:33 PM polprog: thanks
12:34 PM Tom_L: just like paralleling anything.
12:41 PM polprog: ive got some 18650 and im charging them with the lab psu
12:42 PM polprog: 150mA, constant current
12:42 PM polprog: seems to be working
12:42 PM polprog: monitoring the temperature
12:59 PM polprog: hmm, stuck at 3.83
08:23 PM MoonyMoon: rue_mohr: https://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC-113-405-615-DBLK
08:24 PM MoonyMoon: these bastards are selling the blank ones for twice the price of the regular ones >:(
08:24 PM MoonyMoon: help me find a chinese source
08:24 PM Tom_L: wtf is that for?
08:25 PM Tom_L: 68 bug?
08:25 PM Tom_L: i had one of those...
08:25 PM MoonyMoon: yeah I want to have a machinist dirll me a chev pattern on them
08:25 PM Tom_L: ?
08:25 PM Tom_L: why
08:25 PM Tom_L: different spindles?
08:26 PM Tom_L: https://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC%2DC10%2D6750
08:27 PM Tom_L: wtf how hard was that?
08:27 PM Tom_L: that's rear
08:28 PM Tom_L: i wonder if a 256 uses the same spindles
08:28 PM Tom_L: they have beefier brakes than a bug
08:28 PM MoonyMoon: dunno
08:29 PM Tom_L: tell me more about the project
08:29 PM MoonyMoon: hmm.
08:29 PM Tom_L: why the chevy bolt pattern?
08:29 PM MoonyMoon: https://wizradsapprentice.blogspot.com/
08:29 PM MoonyMoon: easyer to get rims
08:29 PM Tom_L: oh
08:30 PM MoonyMoon: specialy ones that take a modern tire
08:30 PM Tom_L: yeah i suppose
08:30 PM MoonyMoon: iv looked at all these diferent drums
08:31 PM MoonyMoon: but they dont have a chev front drum just a 500 dollar disc conversion
08:31 PM Tom_L: yours isn't a super beetle right?
08:31 PM Tom_L: it's an older one
08:31 PM MoonyMoon: nope
08:31 PM MoonyMoon: pre super
08:33 PM Tom_L: https://www.amazon.com/Chevy-Wheel-Adapters-Aluminum-BEETLE/dp/B00BGDWPYE
08:33 PM Tom_L: what about adapters?
08:35 PM MoonyMoon: maybe
08:35 PM Tom_L: one lug is shared
08:36 PM Tom_L: it would space it out a tiny bit
08:36 PM Tom_L: maybe 1/2 - 3/4" or so
08:36 PM Tom_L: maybe not that much
08:39 PM MoonyMoon: well i found those adapters on my rear, and thats what got me thinking. Though I would be interested in less wheel poke
08:41 PM MoonyMoon: I would just buy new drums all around but I want to find affordable options where I can
08:41 PM MoonyMoon: I wish I knew the chinese sellers of these cuz the north american sellers are jacking the price as usual
08:43 PM Tom_L: yeah
08:48 PM Tom_L: you lookin for front or rear?
08:49 PM MoonyMoon: interested in front
08:49 PM MoonyMoon: cuz I have adapters in rear
08:49 PM Tom_L: do you replace the spindles too?
08:49 PM MoonyMoon: nope
08:49 PM Tom_L: mmm
08:49 PM Tom_L: it's been quite a while since i've seen one
08:50 PM Tom_L: https://www.jcwhitney.com/results/?Ntt=68+vw+drums&searchType=global&N=0&uts=true&shopId=1&searchType=global&N=0
08:51 PM Tom_L: most of those are 5bolt but i dunno how you adapt that to 4bolt hubs
08:53 PM Tom_L: those ones you linked have the pressed timken bearings in them right?
08:54 PM MoonyMoon: yeah , needs the race
08:54 PM Tom_L: for $540 you can put disk on the front :)
08:54 PM Tom_L: https://www.jbugs.com/product/22-2924.html

08:59 PM MoonyMoon: wow you musta been quite the enthusiest
08:59 PM Tom_L: did alot of align boring the cases and helicoil the head bolts
08:59 PM Tom_L: worked in a shop in my younger years
08:59 PM MoonyMoon: yeah I hear Helicoils are classic for those crank cases
08:59 PM Tom_L: saves the old ones with the big studs
08:59 PM Tom_L: newer ones had skinny studs that would stretch more
09:00 PM MoonyMoon: How old are you Tom?
09:00 PM Tom_L: old as dirt
09:00 PM MoonyMoon: :P
09:00 PM MoonyMoon: I'm not yet 30, still a spring chicken
09:01 PM Tom_L: holy crap, you're still in diapers...
09:01 PM MoonyMoon: I paid well attention to my grandpa working on cars though :)

09:09 PM Tom_L: so you're younger than rue
09:09 PM MoonyMoon: yeah, he's bout 40 I think
09:12 PM MoonyMoon: I met him around 15 years ago, but we'v been hanging out for around 8 years.

09:33 PM rue_shop1: everyone is gone ?
10:08 PM Tom_L: the mouse is still here
11:10 PM rue_mohr: :/
11:10 PM rue_mohr: I have to tear up a whole bunch more of the shop to try to find it
11:32 PM rue_mohr: so I was paging thru a databook and found a neat circuit
11:33 PM rue_mohr: its a sort-of 4017 emulator in ttl using a shift register
11:33 PM rue_mohr: tried it out today, worked great (had to upgrade the circuit a bit)
11:35 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/circuits/sequencer1.jpg
11:35 PM rue_mohr: as found in book
