01:34 AM zhanx: not to get in the political side of it. but we used a hypervelocity kinetic weapon today
01:39 AM zhanx: means it moves to fast to stop it
02:36 AM rue_bed: wonder if I can turn myself into a machine and get off the planet fast enough
02:41 AM rue_bed: I been asleep the whole day, why am I awake now
02:42 AM rue_bed: to add to the cruelty, tommorow is friday
02:43 AM zhanx: yep
02:45 AM rue_bed: my program has a "print" menu option
02:45 AM rue_bed: I'm wondering if I should learn how to send to lpd or remove the option
02:46 AM rue_bed: the world seems to be shrinking, there used to be so many people up all the time to talk to
02:46 AM zhanx: we are getting old
02:47 AM rue_bed: there aren't people around the world playing all the time
02:48 AM zhanx: not the same way
02:50 AM rue_bed: it doesn't help I kinda got tired of talking to myself
02:51 AM zhanx: true
02:51 AM zhanx: and i got busy etc
02:52 AM rue_bed: hows your back doing?
02:52 AM zhanx: shit
02:52 AM rue_bed: hmm
02:52 AM rue_bed: mobile suspension frame?
02:52 AM zhanx: not
03:06 AM zhanx: ugh
04:58 AM Tom_L: there's still us.
04:59 AM Tom_L: zhanx, how was it launched?
05:56 AM zhanx: Tom_L, apache it seems
07:36 PM rue_: power outage
07:36 PM rue_: wind storm
07:36 PM rue_: so
07:36 PM rue_: did I tell you about the gears?
07:37 PM Tom_L: is there more to tell?
07:38 PM Tom_L: you got GM ones that looked like the old ones and wondered if yours were flipped when installed...
07:45 PM rue_: na I got ones from the other auto shop
07:45 PM rue_: exact brand part of the ones gm put in
07:45 PM rue_: and an exact match to the orig
07:45 PM Tom_L: yeah i knew that part
07:45 PM rue_: so GM must have put them in backwards
07:46 PM rue_: so talked to them today
07:46 PM rue_: didn't say backwards, they said they do not want to put in the "exact match" gears I got, they want to put the deeper cover they found on
07:46 PM rue_: only one side of that cam gear is meant to ride on the thrust plate tho
07:46 PM Tom_L: right
07:47 PM Tom_L: i'd tell them you want pics when they open it up
07:47 PM rue_: they said they will call me when the new cover is in
07:47 PM rue_: hmm
07:47 PM Tom_L: is it sitting inbetween?
07:47 PM rue_: yea
07:48 PM rue_: the current cover barely fits under the hub for the drive pulley
07:48 PM Tom_L: hope they're aware of that
07:48 PM rue_: I'm not sure I want them touching my truck anymore
07:49 PM Tom_L: for $2k they damn well better fix it
07:49 PM rue_: I dont know if I want them to bask in their own stupipdity tho
07:49 PM rue_: some other stories are comming in about other things
07:50 PM rue_: so we had a power outage and my fpga defaulted
07:50 PM rue_: and the ide closed
07:50 PM Tom_L: :)
07:50 PM Tom_L: you left it on all the time?
07:50 PM rue_: hell yea
07:50 PM Tom_L: heh
07:50 PM rue_: getting that fsm working was awesome
07:51 PM rue_: esp cause it implemented it perfectly like I wanted
07:51 PM Tom_L: if you don't take it back i'd get money back
07:51 PM Tom_L: yeah you made good strides yesterday on that
07:51 PM rue_: I have some approaches I want to take with GM
07:52 PM rue_: one of their previous journeyman mechanics is one of our electricians
07:52 PM rue_: I think he can talk to them about it on a different level
07:52 PM Tom_L: that would be helpful
07:52 PM rue_: I'm trying to be nice, their not really comming thru for me
07:53 PM Tom_L: of course not. they got paid and they're moving on
07:53 PM rue_: yea but I can hold that over them
07:53 PM rue_: and I can lawyer
07:54 PM rue_: and I can bluff
07:54 PM rue_: we will see
07:54 PM Tom_L: hope it doesn't go that far but i wouldn't let them get by with it
07:54 PM rue_: na
07:54 PM rue_: that too much
07:55 PM Tom_L: so how do you test your routine?
07:55 PM rue_: the other maker like folk over here like your steel mould for aluminum
07:55 PM rue_: test my routine?
07:56 PM rue_: the fpga?
07:56 PM rue_: I run it :)
07:56 PM Tom_L: the fsm
07:56 PM rue_: I made one that steps
07:56 PM Tom_L: ahh you still using the mold?
07:56 PM rue_: and ran it real slow
07:56 PM rue_: I have them, havn't used them since summer there
07:57 PM rue_: I have a plumber buddy who has my milling machine in his garage
07:57 PM rue_: he's been able to make space and is interested in filling in his shop tools more
07:57 PM Tom_L: good
07:57 PM rue_: he was by, we were talkin about stuff
07:58 PM rue_: the fixer-upper-bandsaw I have isn't quite what he's looking for
07:58 PM Tom_L: which mill did he get?
07:58 PM rue_: no I bought an actaully mill
07:58 PM rue_: its an early busybee millpress
07:58 PM Tom_L: oh
07:58 PM rue_: its pretty sturdy
07:59 PM rue_: it looks like this
07:59 PM rue_: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/ZEz2uwLfEYLOeUCdCtQBnmSyXmTy87Zkwju1lFHA5a1y322ryJvqWLU1baiWqolvewp35NRJi_5dV_aB8_EC5TNthyCo5GyrXX9bS4LXFRm5eQFiUYo5MqJnDsUoSYZjCquE8VL_irFM07PyW-rrg4KASuMICDZuRp7Tfu9Gniz8rXmrYZm-lk-2Jbk9s9prKT0P5Nr_F5z8aezxZg1mauTs7gWCoH8XNNA3i9uejQj6u8I2aCfDwzRiT9V6655KJ5XdazoJ9Y0EbZ8tpm1Mp2lyIY4tDIENWmYoNQDXC77b7jiLLT-lHnvM70lJIqgaCMw8EKMthGIei6Nfnehk5iPB4tMnR0rpYBevysbPXcSDzkIT3rue_qW6S7JuK6AXPZ5HyTZjLR3CHbx0o0FRO

07:59 PM rue_: ugh
07:59 PM Tom_L: haven't used mine in a while
07:59 PM rue_: https://www.hobby-machinist.com/data/attachments/25/25840-c756bd81cd1017b5bec4c5066abe5055.jpg
07:59 PM rue_: like that
08:00 PM Tom_L: nice
08:00 PM rue_: I was at one of the fab shops looking to buy material to make a mill
08:00 PM Tom_L: no cnc?
08:00 PM rue_: he points over his shoulder and says "wanna buy that, $500"
08:00 PM rue_: the vise on it alone was $500
08:00 PM Tom_L: yeah
08:00 PM Tom_L: how big is the vise?
08:00 PM rue_: came with bits and chucks
08:00 PM rue_: 8 iirc
08:01 PM Tom_L: wow that's big for a tabletop mill
08:01 PM rue_: we used it for a bit, and it hit a bearing problem
08:01 PM rue_: the spline access allows bits of metal to drop into an open bearing in it
08:02 PM rue_: I had to tear it all down and buy about $80 in new bearings
08:02 PM Tom_L: need a neoprene cover over it
08:02 PM rue_: but it was all good after
08:02 PM rue_: I put a peice in to try to keep junk out
08:02 PM rue_: whats interesting
08:02 PM rue_: is that its probably been moved more than its been used
08:03 PM rue_: it has way more dents and scratches than actual wear
08:03 PM rue_: I was lucky, I cant fit it here
08:04 PM Tom_L: i'd sure try
08:04 PM rue_: my plumber buddy has asked me two months before if I knew where there was a mill he might be abel to get access too
08:04 PM rue_: I called and said "hey, I got a mill if you got garage space!"
08:05 PM rue_: I'v done one thing on it, a buddy has done a bunch of stuff, and I dont think the plumber chap has had a chance to use it yet
08:05 PM rue_: :)
08:05 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/spindle_cooler/Mill2.jpg
08:05 PM Tom_L: that keeps the underside real clean
08:06 PM rue_: heh, simple solution
08:06 PM Tom_L: it's open under the plate but not much gets in there
08:06 PM Tom_L: i got one on the backside too
08:06 PM rue_: were gonna have to find you a spindle upgrade :)
08:07 PM Tom_L: until i do much with it, it's fine
08:07 PM rue_: it did steel!
08:08 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Assembly/Final/Strap_clamp.jpg
08:08 PM rue_: o
08:08 PM Tom_L: made a few clamps similar to that
08:08 PM rue_ is now known as rue_mohr
08:08 PM Tom_L: not fancy but effective
08:08 PM rue_mohr: is that just plunge?
08:09 PM Tom_L: i may have drilled a hole first, i don't remember
08:09 PM Tom_L: i may have plunged it
08:09 PM rue_mohr: or oval path
08:09 PM rue_mohr: hmm
08:09 PM Tom_L: oval path i'm pretty sure
08:09 PM rue_mohr: I'm learning to avoid plunge-and-feed
08:09 PM Tom_L: hard to remember now
08:09 PM Tom_L: it's not the best
08:10 PM Tom_L: you can get away with it in aluminum usually
08:10 PM rue_mohr: so I need an fsm project
08:10 PM rue_mohr: see how hard I can push it
08:11 PM * rue_mohr says as he is currently using 0.15% of the fpga
08:11 PM Tom_L: the chip should do it if you can program it
08:11 PM rue_mohr: I have some other things for doing fsm I want to try
08:12 PM rue_mohr: the fpga is nice cause its not limited to 8 bits
08:12 PM Tom_L: nope
08:12 PM rue_mohr: tho its defautl size is 32
08:30 PM Tom_L: never did get a tracking number for my order
08:32 PM Tom_L: all i got was: Expected delivery Dec 30 - Tue, Feb 18 which is quite a spread
08:54 PM rue_mohr: yep, not unusual
11:14 PM rue_mohr: hmm, I wonder what the yeild strength is on 6011
11:14 PM rue_mohr: 60,000 psi
11:15 PM rue_mohr: wonder if thats where the 60 comes from
11:28 PM rue_mohr: damnit, I cant get my mind off my truck
11:32 PM rue_mohr: too much noise in my head
11:32 PM rue_mohr: how do I reset a brain?
