12:46 AM rue_mohr: wow
12:51 AM rue_mohr: ok
12:51 AM rue_mohr: so , visitor
12:51 AM rue_mohr: and the neughbour-after-next had a garage fire
12:51 AM rue_mohr: fire truck grade
12:51 AM rue_mohr: I didn't even notice
12:51 AM rue_mohr: I did notice an emergency truck stop near by
12:51 AM rue_mohr: siren didn't fade off into the distance
05:09 AM Tom_L: hope everybody's ok
07:53 AM polprog: https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/our-regions/southern/disruption-at-victoria-and-london-bridge/
09:00 AM rue_mohr: 20s power surge, thats odd eh?
09:00 AM rue_mohr: I wonder how high the voltage went?
01:44 PM armyofevilrobots: \o/
01:45 PM Tom_L: /o\
07:04 PM MoonyMoon: armyofevilrobots: HAY GUYS!
07:11 PM rue_mohr: I worry their gonna be over their estimate when they point out their giving me my companies fleet rate
07:12 PM rue_mohr: they are worried the new gears are wider and might need a new cover, they want to hold it an extra day for testing
07:12 PM rue_mohr: armyofevilrobots, hey!
07:12 PM zhanx: if the new gears are wider they miss ordered them
07:12 PM rue_mohr: I'm wondering
07:12 PM rue_mohr: there should be lots of room
07:13 PM rue_mohr: they let me into the shop to see the old ones
07:13 PM rue_mohr: wow
07:13 PM rue_mohr: it tore the teeth off half the cam gear
07:13 PM zhanx: fun
07:14 PM rue_mohr: and it looked like he had a time getting it off, but I saw lots of images of people pulling the whole cam and using a press to take it off
07:17 PM rue_mohr: but I'm definitly comming out of it thinking this wasn't the job for them
07:17 PM zhanx: yea, that is an easy job to be honest
07:18 PM rue_mohr: if your not out int eh rain on a gravel raod
07:18 PM rue_mohr: in winter
07:18 PM rue_mohr: and I dont have a shop
07:18 PM zhanx: true but they have a shop
07:18 PM rue_mohr: had it been summer, I'd totally have done them
07:19 PM rue_mohr: even if it took me 4 days
07:19 PM zhanx: in a shop it would be 8 hours tops for me
07:19 PM rue_mohr: their fiber gears
07:19 PM rue_mohr: the GM shop used 3 hours on the est
07:20 PM rue_mohr: and I'm worried where their at with that
07:20 PM zhanx: 3 hours tear down, 3 hours back together
07:20 PM rue_mohr: cause I think they spent 2 hours out of the gate trying to diagnose an ignition problem
07:20 PM zhanx: lunch and set times for crap makes it 8
07:20 PM rue_mohr: yup
07:21 PM rue_mohr: aaanyhow,
07:21 PM rue_mohr: I have ~$1000 in service budget for it
07:21 PM rue_mohr: ($1200/year)
07:21 PM rue_mohr: it usually doesn't even make a dent in that
07:22 PM zhanx: not this year
07:23 PM rue_mohr: ok
07:23 PM rue_mohr: see if I can clear my head and do things
07:23 PM * zhanx is still in a food coma
07:24 PM Tom_L: it could have been electric by now
07:32 PM rue_mohr: yea, I made a mistake
07:33 PM Tom_L: i'm not sure electric is the answer anyway
07:33 PM rue_mohr: I just hope its not going to cost me the good arm and leg
07:33 PM rue_mohr: electric would be good for me
07:33 PM rue_mohr: I travel 40km once ever week
07:34 PM rue_mohr: a gerbil could charge it
07:34 PM Tom_L: i'm just hoping they don't try screwing you over on the job
07:34 PM Tom_L: due to incopetence
07:35 PM Tom_L: *incompetence
07:45 PM rue_mohr: yea
07:45 PM rue_mohr: I'm concerned when I left,t he truck lights were on, (I called and said their not automatic) and that they said they wanted to give it another go-over before they give it back.
07:46 PM rue_mohr: but I support the idea of being confident its ready before giving it back
07:46 PM Tom_L: did they order the wrong parts?
07:46 PM rue_mohr: dunno
07:46 PM rue_mohr: was it a bluff to check the work again later? I dunno
07:49 PM Tom_L: i'm always skeptical letting someone else do work for me
07:49 PM Tom_L: in fact it seldom happens
07:49 PM Tom_L: the fat lazy bastard that put my carpet in did a non-professional job
07:50 PM Tom_L: nails found all over the place, tack strip left in the closet, greasy fingerprints on all the doors....
07:51 PM rue_mohr: I have a shop I completely trust
07:51 PM rue_mohr: and there is another shop that has nothing but good reports with people I trust to be skeptical
07:52 PM Tom_L: he took the toilet lid off to use it as a weight and to hold his seam tape heater
07:53 PM Tom_L: showed up late
07:53 PM Tom_L: took several breaks
07:53 PM Tom_L: the last guy that did the basement did the whole thing by himself and did a fantastic job
07:55 PM Tom_L: not sure where to start with this chip
07:55 PM Tom_L: lots of features to learn
07:57 PM rue_mohr: frustrating isn't it?
07:57 PM Tom_L: not so much
07:57 PM Tom_L: you don't have to use them
07:58 PM rue_mohr: I wonder if they dented up the cover ...
07:58 PM Tom_L: but it looks like a very powerful chip
07:58 PM Tom_L: the timing cover?
07:58 PM rue_mohr: yea
07:58 PM Tom_L: i would hope not
07:58 PM rue_mohr: I'll see after all the dust settles
07:59 PM zhanx: denting that would be hard. they would of had to pry it off weird or dropped something on it
08:00 PM rue_mohr: if I'm really not feeling confident, I can peel it off in the summer
08:00 PM Tom_L: i could look up the procedure...
08:01 PM zhanx: if its on its on. if it doesn't leak also
08:01 PM Tom_L: the books i've got don't give R&R time
08:02 PM zhanx: Well we official have a space force as a military branch
08:32 PM rue_mohr: :)
09:31 PM armyofevilrobots: Oh man. I am bad at watching for IRC messages... and will be bad again. Heading into garage to (sigh) clean :(
09:40 PM Tom_L: oh god don't do that! you'll never be able to find anything
09:41 PM zhanx: for real
09:41 PM zhanx: I am still looking for tools after I cleaned last
10:42 PM Tom_L: i printed 5 pages of pin descriptions for my chip
10:42 PM Tom_L: now to figure out what the alternate functions are for them
10:43 PM rue_bed2: heh, its as bad as microcontrollers
10:44 PM rue_mohr: that seems so wrong for an fpga
10:44 PM Tom_L: pretty sure you can just use them as IO
10:44 PM rue_mohr: you should make all your functions
10:44 PM Tom_L: memory controller is one
10:44 PM rue_mohr: well sure
10:45 PM Tom_L: i don't know how to address them yet
10:45 PM Tom_L: err enable the alternate function
10:45 PM Tom_L: spi is one
10:47 PM Tom_L: i think i've posted most of the pdf files on the server
10:51 PM Tom_L: they support multi boot configurations
10:51 PM Tom_L: and can change the loaded image on the fly for multi configurations
10:51 PM Tom_L: way beyond the scope of this brain
11:01 PM rue_mohr: oh, wait, spartin 6?
11:01 PM rue_mohr: you made a comment that its got a full engine compartment
11:02 PM rue_mohr: I should get the ide up again and do that program you wrote for it
11:02 PM rue_mohr: or maybe tommoroow
11:02 PM rue_mohr: I'm still recovering
11:06 PM Tom_L: you'll have to find 2 pins you can map in the .ucf file
11:06 PM Tom_L: one for the button and one for the led
11:07 PM zhanx: well the cat decided I am done working
11:12 PM rue_mohr: heh
11:13 PM zhanx: rue i am close to photo time
11:13 PM zhanx: all the parts don't mean anything till they make something
11:14 PM rue_mohr: uhu, you just dont share pics
11:14 PM rue_mohr: did you get that company to hire you so you could install your internet and quit?
11:15 PM rue_mohr: <yet>
11:15 PM zhanx: no my back is still out (week 3)
11:15 PM rue_mohr: damn
11:15 PM zhanx: I have a standing invite to interview tho
11:15 PM zhanx: they have 3 levels of techs
11:16 PM zhanx: I will be second level for 90 days
11:16 PM zhanx: wait we talked about that
11:21 PM rue_mohr: its ok, I forgot!
11:21 PM zhanx: i whacked my nose today. I was fixing the fence and smacked my face with the bar
11:22 PM rue_mohr: ouch
11:22 PM zhanx: welded it and realized i drew blood on it
11:22 PM zhanx: goats are having kids and fast so made a new pen
11:22 PM zhanx: did not help the back
11:51 PM zhanx: see rue_mohr i am still trying to grow robotics
11:51 PM zhanx: :D
11:53 PM rue_mohr: good show
11:53 PM rue_mohr: #garfield is sure growing :) (?) hehe
11:53 PM zhanx: true
