12:13 PM rue_shop1: +25 shipping....
02:00 PM Tom_L: tell china to move a little closer
04:25 PM rue_shop1: trying to jig up the subbed for the cnc
05:28 PM * Tom_L finished ripping out carpet and cleaning all the debri from the basement
05:28 PM Tom_L: mudded a few spots in the wall
06:08 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc6/p1130071.jpg
06:09 PM rue_mohr: (:P SO HOT OUT...
06:12 PM Tom_L: does your neighbor ever question you?
06:29 PM rue_mohr: no
06:29 PM rue_mohr: the old neighbor asked if I was ok once after the boiler exploded
06:30 PM Tom_L: heh
06:30 PM Tom_L: did you scare him off?
06:31 PM rue_mohr: I'm not sure
06:31 PM rue_mohr: I couldn't ahve been as bad as the last people living here
06:56 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, I actually laid the first layer for the forge in today
07:30 PM rue_mohr: haha I oopsed
07:30 PM rue_mohr: I put the kick on wrong, the bed it supposed to be sitting 15degrees back
07:30 PM rue_mohr: zhanx, pictures are good!
07:31 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr, did you forego those connector pads?
08:23 PM zhanx: rue_mohr, https://imgur.com/a/HtT3Hao its only 3"" on the bottom and the gas pipe mock up, the bottom has to set
08:25 PM zhanx: but me, being me, i wrong mathed the water amount and its a little to wet
08:37 PM Tom_L: you shootin the pipe straight in or gonna have it so the heat swirls around the edge?
08:38 PM zhanx: swirls
08:38 PM Tom_L: what you gonna use for a crucible?
08:38 PM zhanx: don't know yet, i might do the cheap stainless steel cup with bolts to start
08:39 PM Tom_L: graphite seems to be the best i think
08:40 PM zhanx: yep, but I want to get the hang of it first before i put any more money into it
08:42 PM Tom_L: i hear ya
09:12 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc6/p1130072.jpg <-- oops, forgot to recline it
09:12 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/cnc6/p1130073.jpg
09:12 PM rue_mohr: its actually reclined more than it looks like, there is quite a slope to that ground
09:13 PM rue_mohr: I'm out of tea, that might be all the progress for this weekend
09:13 PM Tom_L: vertical cnc?
09:13 PM rue_mohr: reclined
09:13 PM rue_mohr: how else I gonna have space for a 4'x8' cnc?
09:14 PM rue_mohr: have to screw down the work anyhow, position doesn't matter
09:14 PM Tom_L: put it on the roof?
09:14 PM rue_mohr: easier to clear chips :)
09:14 PM rue_mohr: I was origionally pondering under the house eave
09:14 PM rue_mohr: I'm going to try to find space on the deck
09:15 PM rue_mohr: its 6' high...
09:17 PM rue_mohr: this week I'll try to get the standoffs for the bed put on, and mount the ... X? rails
09:17 PM rue_mohr: for that axis, I'm pondering bike chain
09:18 PM rue_mohr: introduces a little step error, but if I keep the sprockets large it shouldn't matter much
09:19 PM rue_mohr: its getting heavy
09:20 PM Tom_L: that happens when you go big
09:20 PM rue_mohr: prolly about 70lbs now?
09:21 PM Tom_L: i could barely move mine from the wood workbench to the metal table when it was done
09:21 PM rue_mohr: k, I need to go shopping...
09:21 PM Tom_L: took all i had to move it
09:21 PM rue_mohr: :)
09:21 PM rue_mohr: your supposed to get in buddies to help
09:21 PM Tom_L: pfft
09:21 PM rue_mohr: mhm
09:21 PM Tom_L: i don't rely on ppl
09:21 PM rue_mohr: yea, I hear ya
09:21 PM rue_mohr: that holder arm is pretty handy, I'm pondering making another
09:21 PM Tom_L: they just get in the way
09:22 PM rue_mohr: I'd like to come up with a list of improvements
09:22 PM Tom_L: I beam construction with crane rollers for axis slides
09:23 PM rue_mohr: its only supposed to be 10lbs out to 24"
09:23 PM rue_mohr: (the holding arm)
09:24 PM Tom_L: get milk for your tea while you're there
09:46 PM zhanx: well that first mold is getting tossed out
09:47 PM zhanx: well not really but I have to redo it
09:48 PM rue_shop1: ?
09:48 PM rue_shop1: pictures z, pictures
09:48 PM zhanx: i posted one
09:49 PM zhanx: its just 3" of the mix in the bottom of the bucket
09:50 PM Tom_L: if you mix that and it sets up will the walls still adhere to it?
09:50 PM zhanx: yes but, maybe rue_shop1 can shed light on this, I forgot to add a drain in the bottom if it leaks
09:51 PM Tom_L: huh, never occured to me
09:51 PM zhanx: ok so maybe i didnt mess up
09:52 PM Tom_L: if the crucible leaks you got bigger problems than that
09:52 PM zhanx: so ignore that and move on
09:53 PM Tom_L: i'm not the resident expert on it
09:54 PM zhanx: neither am I but... Gonna go for it
11:00 PM rue_mohr: I didn't, it'll come out the burner hole
11:00 PM rue_mohr: I run mine in a pan
11:00 PM zhanx: pic?
11:00 PM rue_mohr: it hasn't happened in a LONG time
11:01 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/projects/smelter/slide.htm
11:02 PM rue_mohr: but if you flip thru the images, you notice at some point I suddenly always have it in a pan
11:02 PM zhanx: wait
11:02 PM zhanx: I used a plastic bucket to cast the forge in
11:03 PM rue_mohr: ?
11:03 PM zhanx: its ok, its a test anyways
11:03 PM rue_mohr: I cast a part in sand in a plstic bucket
11:03 PM rue_mohr: that bucket was too badly damaged after that to use for anything
11:03 PM rue_mohr: <ahem>
11:04 PM zhanx: ok looking for a hot water heater now to make the forge .02 in
11:05 PM rue_mohr: you know, I can melt down like 2L in that thing, and I'v never been able to use up that much metal
11:05 PM zhanx: k
11:05 PM zhanx: how hot does the sides get
11:06 PM rue_mohr: you can usually uncomfortably hold your hand on it if its been running a few hours
11:06 PM zhanx: so the HDPE bucket will work as a test then
11:08 PM rue_mohr: keep the alum atleast 4 inches from the sides
11:08 PM rue_mohr: that was just plain sand, the idea was for it to back up the plaster
11:08 PM rue_mohr: try to find plaster that isn't sulfur based
11:09 PM rue_mohr: cause gosh that stinks
11:09 PM zhanx: k, i was gonna make green sand and boxes
11:09 PM rue_mohr: yup
11:09 PM rue_mohr: I'm considering finding and paying for real sand
11:09 PM rue_mohr: the stuff I made is water based so it dries out easy, and its too course
11:10 PM zhanx: in texas i got a bag of the real stuff for 9 dollars
11:10 PM rue_mohr: :(
11:10 PM zhanx: 69 pounds, i was like wtf who sized that
11:10 PM rue_mohr: I dont even have anyone to get any from
11:11 PM rue_mohr: its imperial for 31.3kg ;)
11:11 PM zhanx: there is a casting place, 5 miles from me so bonus, as they make fence toppers
11:11 PM zhanx: oh
11:11 PM rue_mohr: something somewhere must say "less than 70pbs"
11:11 PM rue_mohr: well damnit
11:11 PM rue_mohr: where do I find some
11:12 PM zhanx: wonder what usps would do if i shipped a flat rate box full of it to you
11:12 PM rue_mohr: haha
11:12 PM rue_mohr: so, how much volume is 69lbs
11:13 PM rue_mohr: I have two large buckets and its hardly enough for that form I did
11:13 PM zhanx: its about 1.5 the size of a normal cement bag
11:13 PM rue_mohr: oh god, thats huge
11:13 PM rue_mohr: its already got the oil in it?
11:13 PM rue_mohr: its the black stuff?
11:13 PM zhanx: that is what my back said
11:14 PM rue_mohr: does it have a grit rating?
11:14 PM zhanx: didn't open it
11:14 PM zhanx: will check it tomorrow for a grit? rating
11:14 PM rue_mohr: like sandpaper
11:14 PM zhanx: its like a large feed bag that wants to hurt your back, i got 2
11:15 PM zhanx: guy said I needed 4 or 6 for the table i want to make
11:16 PM zhanx: rue the place was called Deep In the Heart Art Foundry in Bastrop or Basstrop TX
11:25 PM rue_mohr: k
