01:31 PM Tom_L: ok blocks all squared up. program P1 in the queue
01:35 PM * Tom_L waits for rue_mohr to push 'cycle start'
01:35 PM rue_mohr: :S
01:35 PM * rue_mohr swaps it all out for wood on the first cycle
01:35 PM Tom_L: had to come in and get a drink
01:35 PM rue_mohr: :)
01:35 PM rue_mohr: I woke up
01:35 PM Tom_L: now that would be a waste of good wood
01:35 PM rue_mohr: trying to work out what step is next
01:35 PM Tom_L: ea
01:35 PM Tom_L: t
01:35 PM rue_mohr: oh yea
01:35 PM Tom_L: i was up at 3
01:35 PM Tom_L: then at 7:30
01:35 PM rue_mohr: ... maybe even lunch
01:35 PM Tom_L: lucily he has the next 3 days off
01:35 PM rue_mohr: so make went bust, did you hear?
01:35 PM Tom_L: this gettin up at 3 is bs
01:36 PM Tom_L: what are the odds of them all being set right?
01:36 PM rue_mohr: so, yesterday I made a rotator light, did a cutaway of a fire extinguisher, and threw togethor a boiler zone controller board for a plumbing buddy
01:37 PM rue_mohr: 8 tools!!!
01:37 PM rue_mohr: wow
01:37 PM Tom_L: yessir
01:37 PM rue_mohr: isn't that almost more time doing changes than cutting?
01:38 PM rue_mohr: I guess I'm not one to talk, I dont have preset holders
01:38 PM rue_mohr: I did a 2 tool project once :))
01:38 PM Tom_L: spot, drill, reamer, .187 em, .187 bn, .125 em, .0625 bn, and i'm forgetting one
01:39 PM Tom_L: oh, .125 bn
01:39 PM rue_mohr: dont wanna go with a 50% cut for the neck on the vents?
01:39 PM Tom_L: for the big vent
01:39 PM Tom_L: just put it on one half?
01:39 PM rue_mohr: 50% depth
01:39 PM rue_mohr: @ 1/8
01:39 PM Tom_L: why?
01:39 PM Tom_L: this way it comes out nice n round
01:39 PM rue_mohr: I think the idea is that its too small for the metal to get inot
01:40 PM rue_mohr: :)
01:40 PM Tom_L: the .0625 will be at the part
01:40 PM Tom_L: not the .125
01:40 PM Tom_L: remember?
01:40 PM rue_mohr: ok
01:40 PM rue_mohr: I'm definitly going to change up my ladel and play with this one more
01:40 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/Mold_Rev2/Top_view4.jpg
01:40 PM Tom_L: lets review
01:41 PM rue_mohr: blue is shallow, yes?
01:41 PM Tom_L: the blue in front of each yellow is a .0625 cutter, the yellow is a .125 bn
01:41 PM rue_mohr: yup
01:41 PM Tom_L: so half round will be half as deep as the .125
01:41 PM rue_mohr: vented to the side should prevent blocking up when pouring all over the top
01:41 PM Tom_L: got a special cutter just for you
01:41 PM rue_mohr: :) oh dear
01:42 PM Tom_L: x3
01:42 PM Tom_L: in case i break one
01:42 PM rue_mohr: I really hope they dont get broken
01:42 PM Tom_L: meh, i was sensible with the feeds but some are still unproven
01:42 PM rue_mohr: your also having fun with the steel eh?
01:43 PM Tom_L: it's actually not too bad
01:43 PM Tom_L: i started out slow with it
01:43 PM Tom_L: the bottleneck is the spindle
01:43 PM rue_mohr: power?
01:43 PM Tom_L: the machine would romp right thru it
01:43 PM Tom_L: yes
01:43 PM rue_mohr: your still on the sherline motor eh?
01:43 PM Tom_L: i'll get me a 5kw spindle and then we'll see who's boss
01:43 PM Tom_L: yes
01:44 PM rue_mohr: you know, a treadmill motor is "2hp"
01:44 PM Tom_L: i'll run the water cooler on it
01:44 PM rue_mohr: PM DC
01:44 PM rue_mohr: 109V
01:44 PM Tom_L: yeah but i'd have to find one and a way to power it
01:44 PM rue_mohr: I wish it were woth shipping you one
01:44 PM Tom_L: my spindle control is 0-10v
01:44 PM Tom_L: not +-10, just 0-10
01:45 PM rue_mohr: if you had a 109V PM DC, ...
01:45 PM rue_mohr: could your controller do 12A?
01:45 PM Tom_L: no
01:45 PM Tom_L: i'd have to get another controller
01:45 PM rue_mohr: :/
01:45 PM rue_mohr: whats its rating?
01:45 PM Tom_L: that's the issue and i don't know alot about it
01:45 PM Tom_L: it's the sherline control
01:45 PM Tom_L: no idea
01:45 PM rue_mohr: oh, its low...
01:46 PM rue_mohr: that sherline motor is actaully pretty small
01:46 PM rue_mohr: when I changed the brushes
01:46 PM Tom_L: that company sells alot of them though, some even with reverse control
01:46 PM rue_mohr: ... I was surprised
01:46 PM Tom_L: .6 hp
01:46 PM * rue_mohr thinks
01:46 PM rue_mohr: IRF540... rdson...
01:47 PM Tom_L: bbiab, taking the dogs pee
01:47 PM rue_mohr: er, no, higher...
01:47 PM rue_mohr: 640?
01:47 PM rue_mohr: ...190.... ugh, higher
01:47 PM rue_mohr: 740?
01:48 PM rue_mohr: 400V, ok, 0.5 ohms
01:48 PM rue_mohr: OUCH
01:49 PM rue_mohr: no, no,
01:49 PM rue_mohr: this is IGBT region
01:49 PM Tom_L: ok out to break some cutters... err make some parts..
02:01 PM Tom_shop: working on tool 4
03:24 PM Tom_shop: P1 done
03:29 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/Mold_Rev2/P1_1.jpg
03:29 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/Mold_Rev2/P1_2.jpg
03:29 PM Tom_L: do the other half later one
03:30 PM Tom_L: close fit on the top vent
07:25 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/Mold_Rev2/Final_mold1.jpg

07:41 PM rue_shop1: ooo!
07:42 PM rue_shop1: how did the cuts go?
07:43 PM rue_shop1: I have a ladel with a spout!
07:43 PM rue_shop1: but, interseing thing, something about the use so far eroded out half the metal of the ladel
07:54 PM Tom_L: programs ran good
07:54 PM Tom_L: no surprises
07:54 PM rue_shop1: :)
07:55 PM Tom_L: i bet these work alot better
07:56 PM Tom_L: the funnel opening isn't too big is it?
07:58 PM rue_mohr: it looks great
07:58 PM rue_mohr: spout:
07:58 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1120574.jpg
07:59 PM Tom_L: good idea
07:59 PM Tom_L: is that iron or copper?
07:59 PM rue_mohr: its partly yo grab the clean metal from the bottom
07:59 PM rue_mohr: steel
07:59 PM rue_mohr: and its eroding like crazy
07:59 PM Tom_L: why?
07:59 PM rue_mohr: I dont kow
07:59 PM Tom_L: metal interaction?
07:59 PM rue_mohr: I think there was soemtuing in the aluminum
08:00 PM Tom_L: mmm
08:00 PM rue_mohr: an alloy or soemthing
08:00 PM rue_mohr: but it was sitting in the pot for a while
08:00 PM rue_mohr: the mold should be fine
08:00 PM rue_mohr: damnit I forogot to get PAM
08:00 PM Tom_L: well you'll have a couple to mess with
08:01 PM Tom_L: at least the inlet is a bit more round this time
08:03 PM rue_mohr: I'm kinda beat, or I'd try that ladel now
08:03 PM Tom_L: i did my duty. i'm gonna relax
08:04 PM rue_mohr: I found the aluminum bars I want to reduce to muffins too, so, one more thing to cast and I'd totally be over the tipping point
08:04 PM Tom_L: how long does it take to melt a pot full?
08:04 PM rue_mohr: maybe a half hour or so
08:04 PM rue_mohr: bit slower with the propane
08:04 PM Tom_L: not too bad
08:04 PM Tom_L: oh?
08:04 PM Tom_L: what were you using?
08:05 PM rue_mohr: the diesel was pretty damn fast
08:05 PM Tom_L: heh
08:05 PM rue_mohr: I need to redo the smelter
08:05 PM rue_mohr: its sorta past its best-by date
08:05 PM Tom_L: yeah you better get ramped up for production now
08:06 PM rue_mohr: hah
08:06 PM rue_mohr: like 5 of those triggers cast in like 3 minutes
08:06 PM rue_mohr: then it started messing up
08:06 PM Tom_L: if i can make 8 / hr you should be able to :)
08:07 PM rue_mohr: I should be able to zip of 40-50 if everything goes smoothly
08:07 PM rue_mohr: we keep overproducing parts
08:07 PM Tom_L: you don't think your latel should have a pour spout at the top?
08:08 PM rue_mohr: no, the clean metal is at the bottom
08:08 PM Tom_L: you don't use flux to clean it?
08:08 PM rue_mohr: I dont think the flux is working
08:08 PM Tom_L: what is it... boron or something?
08:08 PM rue_mohr: borax or sodium free salt
08:08 PM rue_mohr: cant remember which is degassing and which is flux
08:09 PM rue_mohr: looks like borax is flux
08:10 PM rue_mohr: "
08:10 PM rue_mohr: Turn off the furnace. Remove the crucible holding the melted aluminum. Pour a teaspoonful of borax into the molten aluminum. This will dissolve oxides and other dross remaining in the aluminum.
08:10 PM rue_mohr: "
08:10 PM Tom_L: then scrape off the top?
08:11 PM rue_mohr: I suppose, I have a strainer I scoop things out with
08:11 PM rue_mohr: (like springs, bolts, oxides)
08:11 PM rue_mohr: drive platters, bearings...
08:11 PM rue_mohr: you know, stuff that gets in there somehow
08:11 PM rue_mohr: :)
08:11 PM Tom_L: no wonder it's not pure
08:12 PM rue_mohr: spark plugs..
08:12 PM rue_mohr: its a mix of everything from marine grade to mag rims
08:13 PM Tom_L: so i'll collect all my aluminum shavings and use them for packing material
08:13 PM rue_mohr: haha
08:13 PM rue_mohr: people keep telling me to use pop cans
08:13 PM Tom_L: i wouldn't use mag
08:13 PM rue_mohr: it all just turns to oxides when its that thin
08:13 PM rue_mohr: I still have half a rim
08:14 PM rue_mohr: I dont think there is enough mag. in it to go off
08:14 PM Tom_L: if you ever catch it on fire you'll never get it out
08:14 PM rue_mohr: THAT would be a show tho
08:14 PM rue_mohr: its just some stupid alloy
08:15 PM rue_mohr: too bad the A9/10 couldn't be cast
08:15 PM rue_mohr: metelergy, it wouldn't hold up
08:16 PM Tom_L: cast titanium
08:16 PM rue_mohr: :S
08:16 PM Tom_L: might be a little harder to find scrap though
08:17 PM rue_mohr: I saw a video some guys used charcoal to melt down brake rotors and cast them
08:17 PM rue_mohr: THAT would be fun
08:17 PM Tom_L: alot more heat
08:17 PM rue_mohr: yep
08:18 PM rue_mohr: totally different process, as my casting sand is water based
08:21 PM rue_mohr: I should make a setup, rescreen my sand
08:22 PM rue_mohr: make some finer stuff, I need to about double the amount I have
08:22 PM rue_mohr: ok wait, I'm tired, if I take an ASA I'll be fine in a bit
08:24 PM Tom_L: so what other goodies do you need this time?
08:27 PM rue_shop1: I'm still in need of time and space
08:28 PM rue_shop1: I'm realizing that I have to make more things and really get using things up
08:28 PM rue_shop1: so much stuff
