12:19 AM rue_shop1: ok I stripped down 2 printers to make room for some 8kw inverters
12:23 AM rue_shop1: but
12:23 AM rue_shop1: I think all I did was make a path to two more printers that I need to strip down to get the room I need
12:23 AM rue_shop1: oo lets see here
12:23 AM rue_shop1: the pour hole would prolly have to be about 1/2" I suppose one would neck it down a bit to the part, hmm
09:26 AM rue_mohr: --
03:11 PM Tom_L: ++
03:57 PM Tom_L: 4.4 quake just now
04:35 PM rue_mohr: 8-|
04:35 PM rue_mohr: isn't 4.4 pretty strong?
04:35 PM Tom_L: enough to feel it
04:35 PM rue_mohr: oh
04:36 PM Tom_L: i _might_ cut some material out for milling tonight
04:36 PM Tom_L: but i gotta re'program it
04:36 PM Tom_L: since you want a funnel input
04:36 PM rue_mohr: which project?
04:36 PM rue_mohr: OOo..
04:36 PM Tom_L: got some cutters today for it
04:36 PM rue_mohr: run some wood prototypes?
04:36 PM Tom_L: wtf for?
04:36 PM rue_mohr: :) you do love a fun one eh?
04:37 PM Tom_L: i trust my work
04:37 PM rue_mohr: kay, I want to send you a donation for your tip fund...
04:37 PM Tom_L: i think a .1875 ballnose should give you enough corner radius you think?
04:38 PM rue_mohr: I was definitly thinking ballnose
04:38 PM rue_mohr: hmm
04:38 PM rue_mohr: I suppose the sprue profile isn't important is it?
04:38 PM Tom_L: not to me
04:38 PM Tom_L: :)
04:38 PM Tom_L: is that the exit at the bottom?
04:39 PM Tom_L: i thought about adding an upside down T to the bottom
04:39 PM rue_mohr: the triggers end up with a radius of about .125 when we do them by hand
04:39 PM rue_mohr: exit? bottom?
04:39 PM Tom_L: for the aluminum to flow out the bottom of the part so it gets full
04:39 PM Tom_L: i know little to nothing about making molds
04:40 PM rue_mohr: this is one of the parts I'm not good at either
04:40 PM rue_mohr: thats part of the education of it
04:40 PM rue_mohr: I would probably put a riser out the top somewhere
04:40 PM Tom_L: shipping steel probably won't be cheap
04:40 PM rue_mohr: so, maybe a V at the top of the part that splits into sprue and riser
04:41 PM Tom_L: scribble your idea on a napkin
04:41 PM rue_mohr: Tom_L, this is pretty interesting to try out, I'm ok on spending some money on it
04:41 PM rue_mohr: k
04:41 PM rue_mohr: 1 min
04:41 PM Tom_L: i want to program this once
04:42 PM Tom_L: and it would take too long to model it in catia to show you so i'm just programming it in smartcam
04:43 PM Tom_L: unless you go to sleep on me then i'll stop
04:44 PM rue_mohr: :)
04:45 PM rue_mohr: where is z???
04:45 PM Tom_L: he was lonely so he left
04:45 PM rue_mohr: wait, he said he was going away and not to call the cops
04:45 PM rue_mohr: ??
04:45 PM Tom_L: he was on seattlerobotics yesterday
04:46 PM rue_mohr: hmm..
04:46 PM Tom_L: now i gotta remember how to do this... i don't do it that often
04:47 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/tempimage/p1120388.jpg
04:47 PM rue_mohr: hah, my upload script throws me the url
04:47 PM rue_mohr: I'm gradually getting the world worked out
04:47 PM Tom_L: there may not be enough room for all that. the part is relatively small
04:47 PM rue_mohr: it never lays out the same in the real world ;)
04:48 PM Tom_L: i was thinking about something out the bottom of the hot pepper shape
04:48 PM rue_mohr: well, the idea is to get the air out
04:48 PM Tom_L: like a tee or something
04:48 PM * rue_mohr shrugs
04:48 PM Tom_L: you can always cut those in with a dremel
04:48 PM rue_mohr: sure
04:48 PM Tom_L: and once it works i can add it in
04:48 PM rue_mohr: the air hole dosn't have to be big
04:49 PM rue_mohr: I suppose technicaly, I could use a grider for the sprue if I had to
04:49 PM Tom_L: also i was gonna at least put dimples on the top of the mold for the holes so you can put the part back in and drill them
04:49 PM Tom_L: then plug them when you do a mold
04:50 PM rue_mohr: I have a jig with the outline of them
04:50 PM Tom_L: the radius with the .187 em will be .0625"
04:50 PM rue_mohr: for repeated drilling
04:50 PM Tom_L: is that enough?
04:50 PM rue_mohr: sure
04:50 PM Tom_L: i can still dimple it but not drill thru in case you decide to use it for that
04:50 PM rue_mohr: you got its 1/4" thick, right?
04:51 PM Tom_L: i have a part i made
04:51 PM Tom_L: i have 1/4" plate steel
04:51 PM rue_mohr: :)
04:51 PM rue_mohr: yea, the trigger is only 1/4" wide, so two 1/4" plates should be fine
04:51 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/cnc/Mill_Steel/Welding/Base2.jpg
04:52 PM Tom_L: that plate i'm using as a workbench
04:52 PM rue_mohr: :)
04:52 PM rue_mohr: thats steel?
04:52 PM Tom_L: yes
04:52 PM Tom_L: scrap
04:52 PM Tom_L: NEW scrap
04:52 PM rue_mohr: clean!
04:52 PM Tom_L: i lucked out
04:52 PM Tom_L: brand new
04:52 PM Tom_L: i would have gotten more but couldn't get it in the car
04:52 PM Tom_L: the rest was alot bigger
04:53 PM rue_mohr: nice
04:53 PM rue_mohr: aren't you glad you dont still have a truck?
04:53 PM Tom_L: probably excess from some large company job or such
04:53 PM Tom_L: no
04:53 PM rue_mohr: my truck is the leading cause of my space issue
04:54 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/patio/patio22.jpg
04:54 PM Tom_L: i brought that I beam home strapped to the underside of the S10
04:54 PM rue_mohr: :)
04:54 PM Tom_L: front and rear bumpers
04:54 PM Tom_L: hey, it worked
04:54 PM rue_mohr: did you see the rack I made for my truck?
04:55 PM Tom_L: not that i remember
04:55 PM rue_mohr: http://ruemohr.org/~ircjunk/images/p1030178-truckrack.jpg
04:55 PM rue_mohr: it looked awesome after a coat of black paint
04:55 PM Tom_L: nice
04:55 PM rue_mohr: mostly bedframe
04:55 PM Tom_L: the kid that bought mine wrecked it
04:56 PM rue_mohr: I usually have it stored (in a tree) with the canopy on
04:56 PM rue_mohr: :/
04:56 PM Tom_L: mine was the extended cab
04:57 PM rue_mohr: I'm really intersted to know if I can cast aluminum like this
04:58 PM rue_mohr: I want to do some plastic injection moulding too, I can use the cncs here to make alum molds
04:58 PM rue_mohr: I'm working on a hand plastic injector
04:59 PM rue_mohr: I got another idea that excited me
04:59 PM rue_mohr: bit backwards
04:59 PM rue_mohr: using the 3d printer to make a template shape for the hand router table
04:59 PM rue_mohr: I think I worked out how I can make a wooden pendant
04:59 PM rue_mohr: a fancy one
05:00 PM Tom_L: like a tracer
05:00 PM rue_mohr: yea, I'll ahve to turn a collar
05:01 PM rue_mohr: been thinking on how that works over the past few days
05:01 PM rue_mohr: I figure if the bit just fits *inside* the collar, and its got all the shoulders and everything for dropping into the table
05:02 PM Tom_L: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1qqLiha4t8
05:02 PM Tom_L: that was one of my bud's first mills
05:02 PM Tom_L: a bridgeport tracer
05:04 PM Tom_L: i got a feeling i may not get much done tonight. being pestered alot tonight
05:34 PM Tom_L: ok the inlet cone is defined but i gotta figure out what to do with it now
05:59 PM rue_mohr: i tink o menjtoned that ebfore
06:20 PM Tom_L: pic may be on the way in a few
06:42 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_Mold_P1.JPG
07:22 PM Tom_L: 50 min per side
08:22 PM Tom_shop: test run P1
08:23 PM rue_mohr: ah yea, ok
08:28 PM Tom_shop: ok, the ballmill is gonna take forever
08:29 PM Tom_shop: ran the spot, drill, reamer, rough mill already
08:29 PM Tom_shop: those went fairly quick
08:29 PM rue_mohr: k
08:29 PM Tom_shop: programmed for steel running in wood is boreing
08:29 PM rue_mohr: is it in need of a rough pass w/ something else?
08:30 PM rue_mohr: yea
08:30 PM Tom_shop: the steel is .300 thick though, not .250
08:30 PM rue_mohr: k
08:30 PM rue_mohr: heavier wall in the end, that works
08:30 PM Tom_shop: the rough pass just saves time
08:31 PM rue_mohr: even if there is nothing for locating the holes its good
08:31 PM Tom_shop: i didn't add that part in
08:32 PM Tom_shop: just the dowel pins and the profile
08:32 PM Tom_shop: the cone is what is gonna take all the time
08:33 PM Tom_shop: if P1 is good, i'm just gonna run it :D
08:37 PM Tom_shop: i may not do the cone
08:38 PM Tom_shop: i may stand it on end clamped together and run a spot drill down it
08:43 PM Tom_shop: you know of a linux utility to let you access an android file system from it?
08:44 PM Tom_shop: was trying to upload a pic from here but it won't let me
08:46 PM Tom_shop: 2700 of 3800 lines
08:47 PM Tom_shop: well 3898
09:03 PM Tom_L: rue_mohr

09:06 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/Mold4.jpg
09:06 PM Tom_L: opinions before tool goes to metal........
09:14 PM rue_shop1: oo
09:15 PM rue_shop1: I wonder how much aluminum shrinks
09:17 PM Tom_L: dunno if you can tell but is that radius ok?
10:47 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/Mold5.jpg
10:47 PM Tom_L: blocks partially squared up
11:19 PM Tom_L: someone suggested a "J" vent from the bottom of the part up to beside the fill spout. that way you will evacuate the air and also know when it's full
11:37 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_Mold_P1.JPG
11:37 PM Tom_L: http://tom-itx.no-ip.biz:81/~webpage/rue/Can_Holder/A3/A3_Mold_P2.JPG
11:37 PM Tom_L: that yellow should give it an .125" hole to follow up
11:38 PM Tom_L: path is for a .125" ballnose
